>> todd: thanksgiving dinner set to be most expensive in history this year as inflation slashes your buying power and labor and supply chain shortages hit businesses. you are watching "fox and friends first" on tuesday morning, i'm todd piro. >> carley: i'm carley shimkus. biden administration says a number of factors like bird flu outbreak, drought and the war in ukraine affected the prices and this is not the first time biden blamed putin for what is happening here at home.
2:01 am
>> president biden: 70% of increase in prices in march came from putin's price hike in gasoline, we couldn't turn a blind eye to putin's murderous ways, the prices wouldn't have spiked the way they have. >> i was able to bring gasoline down, it is inches up because of what the russians and saudis just did. >> carley: what the russians and saudis just did. looking at the numbers of costs of thanksgiving. turkey prices up 21%, stuffing mix up 69%, frozen pie crust up 26%, whipped cream 26%, frozen peas up and rolls up 22%. now the biden administration is blaming bird flu, blaming the russian war on ukraine because ukraine is the one of the world's top agriculture producers. that is only part of the story. the other part is inflation and gas prices, which began to
2:02 am
crease almost immediately after president biden took office. when the president entered office inflation was 1.4% and now the start of the war in ukraine, 7.5%, how do you explain that piece of the pie? >> todd: literally speaking of thanksgiving. it is everybody's thanksgiving. rhetorical your. you knew this was coming, they blame russia for every problem they don't have an answer for, they caused it, not russia. on indirect tangential way, some things happening in ukraine are impanthingis proos, rest of the inflation problem you caused. prices were rising well before russia invaded ukraine. the administration doesn't say how russia invasion of ukraine impacted prices. fox news reached out and explain

how. they haven't gotten back to us to explain that link. the fact of the matter is people are suffering this holiday season, people are struggling and many instances, they have to streamline their holiday because of action from the biden administration. >> carley: single largest contributor is price of diesel, $5.28 and last year it was $3.64, the united states is producing less oil than in 2018. rather than crease our supply, we have more than any country in the world, we're turning to saudi arabia, asking opec to increase our supplies and president biden going to u.n. and asking countries to pay reparations and doing nothing to get diesel prices down. it is affecting farmers and in effect we are all paying for the president's climate policies and paying at our thanksgiving tables, as well. >> todd: we spoke with a turkey

farmer with his challenges, he and his customers are facing this year. >> we are working harder than ever, we can't find labor we get for this crunch time. we are working harder than normal and will take home a smaller paycheck. cost increases were more than we were passing on to customers and price increase on turkey fees. sales of other items, eggnog and artisan cheeses and other things we sell in our store, those sales are down compared to prior years. folks are coming and getting traditional turkey issue but not buying as much other stuff. >> todd: mentioned a couple key things, he is making a less profit than in years past and that impacts the entire economy. that is a harbinger of bad recession, that is one of the first signs and you see the labor market. he is having trouble getting

people, if we go to a tough labor market, that will change, it may be too late to right the ship. >> carley: biden administration blaming russia for cost of thanksgiving and why the heck would they not when you consider the results, midterm election, no red wave. the president is i saing, people love me and my message, we'll keep doing that, even though 75% of the american people think the economy is going in the wrong direction and republicans received 5 to 6 million more votes because there was no wave. the president said he will stick to what he's doing and we can see it unfold. >> todd: the reason they didn't lose the midterm, young people came out to vote because they got bribed on student loan and turns out that will die in the courts. american people, there you have it. switch to something positive, shall we? did you see this? fox news media kicking off christmas season with all-american christmas tree

phone during the call. two surviving female roommates have been cleared as suspects, as well as the man in the photo with kaylie and madison. the parking lot and forested areas are now considered to be part of the crime scene. it is hopeful that d.n.a. testing will give answers. >> d.n.a. can be gotten by touch d.n.a. if a person is not wearing gloves or by the person cutting himself on the bloody knife that he's stabbing people with or by the fingernail scraping from the persons who are receiving defensive wounds. >> brooke: authorities are addressing reports of a neighbor's dog that was killed a few weeks before the murder. detectiveses are aware of incident of a report of a skinned dog and determined it is

related to this incident. police say they have received 700 tips and are combing through them. >> carley: bring in retired connecticut cop and former homicide detective brian foley. you feel this was not a random attack, you say the killer seemed to know how to get around the house. can you expound on that? >> todd: having trouble there. >> carley: yeah. -- who had that code prior -- >> carley: i think we're going to get that audio worked out with brian, we want his perspective. here is what we know now. police believe the same murder weapon was used to kill all four students. local businesses have been contacted to determine if a fixed blade knife was recently purchased. 38 interviews have been
2:15 am
conducted with people who may have information about the murders, 38. been 600 tips pouring in, 38 interviews with people who may have information about the murders. two surviving roommates and a driver who drove two of the victims home are not considered suspects. police are ruling people out, the question is who did this. think back to the families, nine days in, think about moms and dads of four beautiful young people and they were murdered so brutally and they are still no answers as to why or who did this. just how horrific is that. >> todd: the time that has elapsed and resources devoted to this. the fbi is involved, why is it taking so long to find the killer or killer, especially in light of the killer or killers were extremely sloppy in covering up the evidence.
2:16 am
speaking of the fbi, we have former fbi chris swecker on earlier to talk about the difficulty of cracking this case, take a listen. >> 90 interviews, no one surfaced as having motive or means or capability of doing that, this may have been random or target of opportunity, which are the hardest crimes to solve. every killer leaves something at the scene and takes something with them and that is where forensics, comes in. if you rely on forensics, exclusively, you have no leads. >> todd: focus on the 911 call. i think this is really intriguing, if you were calling 911 on that scene, why lead with they are unconscious and not they have been stabbed to death and the scene is really, really bloody. heard martha maccallum raise this same points, it is a question i think we need answers to before we start figuring out
2:17 am
and unravelling what else happened. >> the other thing chris swecker has been saying, police are calling this a other tatargeted attack. somebody may have been stalking one of these people or were at the same bar with one of them possibly and followed them home. that could be the possibility, we think of targeting, we think they knew the person in advance, that could be true or it could be the latter and maybe even one of the four, or none of them knew this person in advance. other people, like brian foley said it could be somebody they knew before this crime went down because it seemed like they knew the lay of the land of the house. conflicting theories because we just don't know what happened yet. people are saying why is it taking so long for police to get answers? it has been nine days, when there is such a focus and public
2:18 am
interest on a crime nine days seems like a really long time when in the grand scheme of things, it is a little over a week and investigators doing all they can to piece this thing together. >> todd: right, the families want answers, we have families and we do stories from a 30,000 foot view and parse the facts in this true crime fashion. it is important to remember, these are families that lost their children, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters and we saw the mom in that piece, so heartbroken. to your point about the ability of -- we have foley? let's bring in brian foley, great to have you back. apologize for losing you for a moment. recap what your thoughts are on this crime. >> so a lot of things out of the gate. looking at a homicide and police communicate and want to convey
2:19 am
public confidence and the public is safe. the fact they are saying people need to be vigilant and lock their doors tells me they know more than they know. i know they ruled out it is canine murder a month ago. police will say anything they can to throw off the killer. they are tracking a killer and playing chess, not checkers, they will not reveal -- to reveal the two are connected would not benefit their investigation in any way. the fact they are saying this to the general public is really chilling. you have that thing happen with the canine, four people here, that case is so unique, knife murders are typically crimes of passion, very noisy fights, usually a struggle. there are some defense wounds, to be able to do that to four people so quietly and not disturb two other people in the
2:20 am
house, this shows premeditation. >> carley: interesting what you are saying about the dog, it was pretty big headline when we found out this dog was skinned, murdered and killed and skinned in the same neighborhood a few weeks ago. the owners are wondering if there is a connection, police came out yesterday and said there wasn't, you are suggesting there still might be. >> yes, the police have zero to gain by saying that the two are connected, to say that publicly, that would tell the killer they are on to them, if it is the same person. i love the idea of a cell tower dump here. it is usually exogent circumstances and usually can show you big process, ittic tas a warrants, the tower will tell you who was in that location at that exact time and with two crimes, you might be able to
2:21 am
look for a match in the two areas with the dog and that. look, maybe that is not the case, either way, you have surveilled, premeditated type of homicide here done in quiet enough manner that no one else is woken up. d.n.a. will be key here. the fact there is defense wounds is interesting, that is where you hope there is struggle, exchange of d.n.a. somewhere, under the fingernails, the scrapings you see, knife crimes are very emotional and vileents, almost always typically in a knife or homicide, the victim is known to the suspect. this is a unique set of circumstances, there wasn't as far as we know, there wasn't screaming or yelling you typically hear, odd no one else was woken up and showed the person knew how to maneuver the building.
