we don't know what kind of a knife was used. we do know it was a large knife. it could have been a kitchen butcher knife for all we know. >> bill: ted, thank you, moscow idaho doing good work out there. >> dana: good to have him out there. we'll follow the story. sandra smith is in for harris faulkner. "the faulkner focus" is next. >> thank you dana and bill. fox news alert. nearly ten days and still no answers on the stabbing deaths of those four university of idaho students. investigators expanding the search in hopes of finding new information at this hour. some are comparing this case to the gainesville ripper. this is "the faulkner focus" and i'm in for harris. no murder weapon or suspect in the killing in the early morning of november 13th. the small college community deeply shaken ahead of the holiday season. here is what we know so far. the victims were out saturday

night two at a frat party, the other two at a local sports bar. they all four got back to the house before 2:00 a.m. sunday morning. police believe they were stabbed to death 3 to 4 hours after that. two other roommates at the house at the time slept through it. a 911 call made hours after the murders. >> four of their classmates being stabbed to death in certain areas of this home. you would have to believe that someone should have heard something. we have the 911 tapes and that they have not released that. i find that to be rather troubling. >> dan springer is live in moscow, idaho. you have been on the ground since the beginning and see how combed over that crime scene is. what is happening today with this search? >> right now we don't see any police activity. they have been here nine days in a row and this is not meant as

any indictment of the police. they are working hard trying to solve this crime. this is just the fact. the longer this case goes on with the suspect not being arrested the harder it is on the families of these four vick tills. last night we saw the first memorial service. hundreds of people remembered the life of ethan chapin. a triplet and very social and well liked and a member of the fraternity nearby here. his mother thanked those supporting the family as well as those trying to solve the crime. >> the moscow police department who now carry the burden every day not only for us but for all of the impacted families, and the many strangers across the country, your outreach and kind words are profoundly touching. >> police briefly expanded the crime scene around the back of the house yesterday. a small team of investigators

from the idaho state police and f.b.i. appeared to be trying to figure out the most likely escape route taken by the killer. a former assistant f.b.i. director was on fox and friends first today saying it could be a long investigation. >> after over 90 interviews, no one has surfaced as having a motive, means or capability to do that. that suggests to me that this may have been a random or target of opportunity, if you will, which are some of the hardest crimes to solve. >> police did shoot down one of the rumors that have been swirling out there about a dog that was skined three miles from here a month ago. they say there is no connection to this case. every single day since this crime happened ten days ago we have seen police going through in or around this crime scene. nothing yet to date, sandra.

>> dan springer in moscow, idaho for us and he will keep us posted. dr. michael bodin joining us now. we do know that they are expanding the search around the perimeter of the property. but your analysis, sir, on what we know up to this hour. >> well, my analysis primarily from the autopsy findings and forensic pathology is that one cannot from an autopsy determine what knife weapon was used except to determine the width and length of the blade but not the handle. it is concerning to me that everybody just assuming that's the murder weapon of the photograph we've seen.
8:05 am
it can only come from other sources. unlike gunshot wounds, you recover the bullet and the bullet tells you exactly what gun it was fired from. many different kinds of knives can leave the same stab wounds in the body. that's one aspect of it. the other aspect is depending on the kinds of wounds on the body would indicate who was alive, who wasn't -- who was awake, who wasn't awake when they were administered. whether there was a struggle, whether there were defensive marks that would indicate a struggle and possible fingernail scrapings from those people that would indicate possible skin if scratches were made. but the -- we're very limited in how the autopsy can reflect what the knife is when they are knife

stab wounds. >> you have covered so many crimes and seen autopsy reports from so many murder scenes. are you surprised that nine days in we have so little information and no suspect? >> well, that happens occasionally in big cities and small cities. in this situation, it gets complicated because apparently friends were called before the police were called and the arriving friends may have unintentionally contaminated some of the potential findings. like in every type of murder like this, how the perpetrator gets there and leaves, shoe prints, tire prints, bicycle prints are looked for. but those get impaired when other people arrive before those tests are examined, those things are examined and when you wait

8:08 am
missing in early october. she has been the police's only suspect in the case. since the very beginning of the search, the police chief getting emotional at a news conference yesterday and announcing the mother's arrest. >> this is a heartbreaking development for everyone who loved quintin, for the many people who came to know him after his disappearance and for our department. having found what we found on friday and the preliminary findings from the f.b.i., we feel that we have a very strong case. she doesn't deserve a thanksgiving if i can go off script. quintin deserves that. >> local news outfit snapped photos doing shots as investigators were searching for her son. dr. bodin you covered the case
8:09 am
of casey anthony very closely. what are your thoughts as this toddler's remains come up in the landfill and it is learned that that mother was out drinking at a bar when they were searching for her young son's remains? >> two things. one is that the most important thing right now is the medical examiner down in savannah, georgia, who is doing the autopsy. the baby was missing for six weeks in a landfill. there would be a lot of decomposition and the baby was found just last friday. there is an autopsy being performed and the medical exam is very important to see if they can determine the cause of death. if there is no cause of death, then issues come up could she have from the defense predictably that the baby died
8:10 am
of natural disease and the mom panicked and put the baby in the dump as a defense. medical examiners are trying to rule out all possible natural causes of death depending on the condition of the tissues even in a landfill at six weeks, the body could still be in pretty good shape. also looking for any kind of homicide marks, fractures of the skull, for example. the most common way these deaths can occur is by suffocation that leaves no marks on the body and then the issue that comes to trial two years from now or a year from now would be how do you prove to the jury that the baby was murdered if there is a defense put out by no confession made? >> she had already lost custody

of that child and she was asked to pay child support. that is all part of this story and the babysitter had identified there was bruising on the child and brought up concerns about what she had found when she was around that child. just heartbreaking and we continue to learn more on that situation as they are now reviewing the remains. again the dna analysis. we expect to know more soon. doctor, thank you very much. >> thank you. >> reaction is still pouring in. the president planning to use our tax dollars for climate reparations to poor nations. critics are calling it a scam, a waste and a terrible idea. plus cracking jokes as families struggle the pay the bills and a rail system strike is looming. >> you cannot overstate how important this is for supply chains. if this strike happens, that's a $2 billion a day hit to our economy.

and there was no real push to take care of immigration which many of us want to do apart from actually securing the border. look, these folks are coming across. this is not asylum. everybody coming across over 90% of more that claim asylum don't qualify. it can be said for anyone in a poor part of the united states. a border not being secured. the democratic party who i have worked with who have no desire to fix it. they enjoy it as an issue and don't want to fix it. >> the new interview "washington post" columnist asked senator mark kelly do you think democrats nationally have recognized the complexity of the issue and frustrations that people have? kelly answered absolutely not. not even close. when i first got to washington, he says, it didn't take me long to realize that there are a lot of democrats who don't understand our southern border.
