♪ [drum line] >> steve: well, good morning, everybody. live from new york city, you know, yesterday on thanksgiving, we had the macy's thanksgiving day parade in front of our building. and, today, because we have got the big world cup march, united states vs. england this afternoon, we have got the brooklyn united drum line performing on "fox & friends" square today. and we're going to be celebrating this big day. we're going to be tailgating outside. kids playing soccer. you name it we will do it live on new york city on this the day america goes shopping. >> we got the food the kids the soccer the band. what don't we have? >> lawrence: this is americana for you. i have got to give brooklyn some credit. normally the southern bands that brings it. i'm biased because i'm from texas. they are really bringing it today. you have got to give brooklyn some credit this morning. >> carley: that's the way to wake you up. >> lawrence: it woke me up.

[cheers] >> steve: a lot of people are up because they are already shopping. a bunch of america's big retailers. carly, i know you were talking about this on "fox & friends first" opened up at 5:00 a lot of them opened at 6 klaus being because today is a big day. sounds like americans may be spending a little more this year than they did last year even though inflation is eating us all up. >> carley: that's exactly right. i was reading that people are going to be spending, obviously for black friday, because you get the deals. and then small business saturday is tomorrow. and people are apparently going to be spending even more, and then cyber monday. and you get to shop in your jammies and save then, too. >> lawrence: black friday black friday week. >> carley: booming. >> lawrence: before and after i'm a huge black friday shopper. the key is to shop out of season. that's where the real deals are. >> steve: out of season? >> carley: get the fake christmas tree in june.

>> lawrence: buy it now, huge sale in the summer for all your winter stuff. that's the key. >> carley: like you are shopping in australia. >> lawrence: can't wear it now. >> steve: anybody on lawrence's list congratulations in about a month you are going to get something you can wear in june. >> lawrence: bingo. >> carley: steve, what did you do for thanksgiving yesterday? >> steve: i'm glad you asked. we had the day off -- i had the day off i think you did, too. >> carley: no. we were here holding down the fort. >> steve: did i not turn on the television until later what we did was have a celebration at home that picture right there is special. because that man used to be a kindergartner in my daughter sally's class at school thought bergmann county. now is he all grown up. one of the managers, his family owns the market basket in franklin lakes. one of the recipes in the new cookbook was the turkey twist.

and i got the turkey breast from them and it was fantastic. that picture is how i start every thanksgiving mornings. i start it with a piece of pie. i also had a piece of pie before i came to work today. and there, ladies and gentlemen, is what it looks like yesterday at our house. in the background, you have melanie luttrell's sweet potato crunch casserole off the chart from the market basket. the turkey roll-up right there. then my wife's dressing and then the classic green bean cass casserole. >> carley: you are a dressing guy not a stuffing guy? >> lawrence: i'm more of a dressing thing. >> carley: same thing? >> lawrence: it's a little different. >> steve: dressing stuffing when you put it in the bird. >> lawrence: you season it different when you stuff it in the bird. >> steve: you know because did you some cooking yesterday. >> lawrence: i did i cooked yesterday for all the friends that could not.

>> carley: you worked and cooked? >> lawrence: prepped. >> carley: how are you not married you? are the perfect person? >> lawrence: that's the promo. i'm going to cut this and put it on all my social media. >> carley: how did it turn out. >> it turned out good. all the friends were happy. all the friends that couldn't make it back home came to my house and watched the football. my cowboys won it was all great. what about you, carley? >> carley: my parents and sister and her boyfriend came in to the city to have lunch, thanksgiving lunch with me and my husband. you see the spilker there. my dad is on the left. of my husband is next to me. my beautiful mom is on the other side of me my sister how pretty is she and her boyfriend justin who is such a great guy. we went out to dinner. i didn't cook, obviously clearly. >> steve: got a lot going on. >> carley: we had such a great time. it was just fun to sit down for a couple hours together and the restaurant we went to had a really good thanksgiving meal. and thanksgiving in the city is

crazy expensive. have you ever done it in manhattan? most places do a prefixed menu and a lot of restaurants i called $150 a person. who can afford that. >> lawrence: that's why i ended up cooking. i priced it we are all just going to go out. this is crazy. i refuse. >> carley: impossible to get a reservation. i called so many places thankfully i finally got one. quality bistro, beautiful inside and the food is really good. too. >> steve: fantastic. >> lawrence: putting that on my list. if have you photos. >> carley: r. we would love to see it and put it on the channel. >> steve: a bunch of people were tagging peon their social media saying hey, look i made your turkey oral i made your pie. if you made some of our recipes, please,. >> carley: that probably feels really cool to see. >> steve: really crazy, very nice. like the state fair pie by pam lang out in iowa.

i screen grabbed a punch of pictures i said your pie is a big hit all across america. >> carley: that's fantastic. that's amazing. black friday is today. a lot of people will be doing some shopping. when it possibly comes to getting the things you buy, a little tense right now. there is this rail strike that is looming that could possibly hit now on december 9th. so some railroad unions, there was originally a deal that the biden administration tried to broker. it was looking like it was good. and now it is looking like it might fall apart. >> steve: 12 unions in all. 4 unions said that's not a good deal for us. what they're fighting over is sick time and quality of life stuff that they say they do not get right now. remember, it was before the midterms, joe biden, the white house said look, he has been really, you know, he has been rolling up his shirt sleeves and working hard to get this done. and right now it looks like crisis averted. well, as it turns out, crisis not overted. and even though and we are going

to play for you are the hypocrisy of what the white house has said, but, yesterday, in nantucket, after he visited some first responders, the president said look, that rail strike, yeah, i'm not involved. because they are not in trouble yet. what? here's the president yesterday, commonwealth of massachusetts. listen to this. >> can you talk about what the hold up is, mr. president. >> i can't, because we're in the middle of negotiations. >> have you been in touch with the parties again? >> my team has been in touch with all parties and i have -- i have not directly engaged yet because they are still talking. >> lawrence: so, obviously, this is a pattern from the white house. and so often we just move past and go directly to the next scandal. this is what the white house press secretary had to say before the president said these comments, watch. >> the president is indeed involved directly. but i don't want to get into details at this time. but he has been involved.

we have said -- i just said the president has been directly involved. he has been in touch. i said -- this is the third time i am saying he has been directly involved. >> carley: third time. >> lawrence: third time and now the president of the united states saying he is actually not involved. they do this all the time. it was -- they did this during covid as well. well, the president, they take this victory lap and then the student loans and, you know, any crime, you know, the president is really leading the charge. and then when things turn the other direction, gas prices. when they turn the other direction, he says there is nothing that i could have done. it's not on me. >> carley: i know. and the amount that is on the line if this rail strike goes into effect, oh my gosh, it could cost the economy $1 million in the first week alone because railroads haul about 40% of the nation's freight each year. did you know that? i didn't know that and this could effect so many different things, the supply chain, all the stuff getting -- two companies that make other stuff,

agriculture chemicals. a bunch of chems setting on railcars that are just stationary. that's not good. public transportation, which is why some people are calling for conditioning to step in. because congress has the power to possibly negotiate something so this rail strike doesn't go into effect. here is congresswoman nicole malliotakis on that. >> there's a lot going on here not just domestically but internationally that could effect our ability to heat homes here in the united states. and the president of the united states should be making this a number one priority. okay? it's not just about transporting christmas gifts for the holidays, it's about actually transporting what we use chemicals for water treatment. everything that we need to survive really, including heat and energy, which impacts everything, food included. but it is a responsibility of congress to step in and we must do that just as we did in the 1990s. >> steve: congress could step in and use power from the commerce clause. in addition to -- those are petroleum carts right there.

and why do they have those tankers? remember day one the president pulled the plug on the pipeline. rather than pull the plug on keystone pipeline and there goes coal right there. they got to transport it via rail. >> carley: such a good point. here what happens it comes down to for me. is when the president says i am not directly involved, and his spokesperson says i -- he is directly involved. >> lawrence: three times. >> steve: we have seen this before. the white house spokesperson can spin but they have got to be accurate that simply was not accurate. so he either was involved or not involved, she -- she was impasse particular, he is involved. he says he is not involved. there is always the third problem, he might have just forgotten. something about a railroad -- i used to be on a irld are a. i used to take amtrak to delaware every day when i was in the senate. maybe he is thinking about that.

headlines,s chesapeake virginia community coming together to hold a vigil for the 16-year-old killed in a shooting at a walmart tuesday night. the 16-year-old who hasn't been publicly identified because he is a minor was a youngest of the six victims killed in the rampage. the suspect reportedly had a manifesto on his cell phone and threw away a kill list that included employees' names and shift hours. tamika johnson's name was circled on that list. two of the four other victims injured in the shooting also had their names circled on the list. remember the freedom convoy he protest from 00 warnings canada when large streets block the streets vaccine mandates. top biden administration officials pressured canada to squash the movement. president biden himself and transportation secretary pete buttigieg among the officials who made frantic phone calls

happy friday. i hope you all had a good thanksgiving. and speaking of thanksgiving, it's one of the busiest times of year. a.a.a. expecting more than 55 million thanksgiving travelers and just to put that in perspective, they measure the dates from about november 21st through november 28. so, if you are traveling, this thanksgiving holiday. we still have about two more days left of this busy time of year. so here at cleveland hopkins international airport. we aren't seeing too many delays or ca cancellations, but acrosse country we have seen about 2500 delays and about 68 cancellations. this busy week. but airport officials have been preparing for this moment all year round. tsa hiring more people to get those clouds through those security check-ins. airlines hiring more people as well. you may hear this term all year round but it's to pack that patience and that couldn't be more true for this holiday season.

of course, one thing that we have been noticing as we drive to the airport are the parking lots are full. i have tsa precheck and clear. and i like to get in the airport two and a half hours before domestic flights. i have been having to get he three, three and a half hours before. you want to pack that patience. be prepared. pack those extra snacks and, the neck pillow just in case it's a long day in the airport. back to you. >> steve: mitty, there are travelers already. have you seen anybody trying to take a big turkey leg or anything through the tsa security area? because there is a list of what can you and cannot take? >> no turkeys, no pies just yet. buff we will be on the lookout for that. good morning to you, a health crisis in china that could ultimately impact the availability of consumer goods here at home, in particular some apple products as you point outbound. chinese authorities will are choosing to lock down more areas of the country, including parts of the central city following reports of record covid cases for a second straight day. this is all happening, by the

way, where apple's main iphone factory is located and perhaps not coincidentally where workers rioted at an apple factory following a pay dispute. china's president xi jinping has a zero covid policy and so that means wait times for apple's newest iphone 1 pro and 14 pro-max models could be delayed at a crucial time of year for apple. foxconn earlier this month did issue a statement at the time it said it was operating at significantly reduced capacity saying it was prioritizing the health and safety of its workers in the supply chain but here's the problem. look at the number of covid cases in china right now. the government there claims it's recording these high numbers. in fact, the highest since the pandemic began with the country's health commission reporting. this is incredible. more than 31,000 local covid cases in zhengzhou.

years ago. and that's the home price. but, it's gotten a lot harder to buy a house because the mortgage rate is more than double where it was a year ago. what that has done is taken some buyers out of market. and what the benefit is for buyers and doesn't send like a benefit when the costs are higher and cost of financing is higher, when there is less buyers. the buyers have a a little more control over the process than they did a year ago. >> lawrence: mitch, i was able to get a steal in my area because of those interest rates. it freaked me out. folks are saying maybe we can refinance after we get that sweet deal in a couple years or so. >> what would you tell them? >> yeah. that's the best part about borrowing money for residential mortgage because you can always refinance it. you can do two things, always pay it off, and you can always refinance it. so, if right now interest rates are 7% and that is obviously a

lot. not by historical standards but compared to where it's been the last several years and interest rates go down, you can refinance it. don't wait to buy a home if you want one just because rates are high. >> lawrence: real quickly, mitch, when can we expect those rates to go back down? >> only sad thing is, if rates are coming down, it could be because the fed has changed their course because the economy slowed down too much. it could be a good news-bad news scenario. i would get used to rates being high for a while though. >> lawrence: so we are thinking rates being high for like the next two years, three years? what are you thinking? >> i would say easily the next two years. they have been unusually low for a really long period of time. and what goes down in interest rates will eventually go up. >> lawrence: i will tell you, brother, we got spoiled. and a lot of us are freaking out that we are going to have to pay that extra cost, which, you know, a lot of people have said because this goes against american dream of being able to

>> yeah, what's going on there, steve, is she is trying to distance the president because this deal with the railroad unions is literally about to come off the rails. >> steve: yeah. >> where three of the 12 unions have rejected it but what is so interesting and convenient is before the midterm elections, he was taking credit for, you know, saving the country's economy in crafting this deal as a dealmaker. he was taking credit then. but now that the unions have rejected it, suddenly he has had nothing to do with it. >> steve: sure. >> but then he forgot his talking points, apparently when he was about to go get on a train, i don't know. but that's what's going on. and this will be devastating, a billion -- a billion dollars per day will be lost. this effects the shipment of coal, not that the left would mind that but our drinking water. everything that comes into our ports. we can't function without our

railroad workers. and they need to -- they need to get this back on track. steve: on track literally. they are estimating that a rarely strike could cost the economy $160 billion or 1 percent of our g.d.p. and, you are absolutely right. before the midterms, he was very clear. don't worry about this. i got this handled. but, one of the problems, and you know, this commander, is as soon as a strike is announced, if it is, the price of gas is going to go through the roof. because we transports so much via rail because he pulled the plug on the keystone pipeline and other pipeline are in peril. >> yeah, that's right. you add to that steve, the cost of diesel is through the roof as well. you know, the average trucker used to spend 300, $400 to fill up his rig. now he is spending over $1,000 and this will be a one-two shot to an already struggling economy
