every foxnation. every weekday. don't forget to follow "unfiltered" on facebook and instagram. that does it for us tonight. we'll catch you back here next saturday night at 9:0 9:0 see you next week. good evening america and welcome to this special edition cross-country in moscow, idaho. we remember even, xana, kaylee and maddie. life getting started, cut short by unnamed criminal. it's been about two weeks since the university of idaho students
10:01 pm
were stabbed to death in their beds while they slept in the home behind me. this gruesome attack shattered peace of mind here in moscow. the town the never used to lock the doors, locksmiths are now being flooded with calls. colors centers are considering online classes and while rumors are swirling, everyone is in agreement on one thing. justice must be served. we've followed the timeline of the case and asked investigators to answer some of the many unanswered questions about the brutal crime. he will hear from the experts later this hour but to begin, joining me tonight, steve, father of kaylee gonzales. thank you for joining us tonight. we continue to grieve with you and your family and we hope to get answers for you. when was the last time you talked with law enforcement about the case? >> we just had a vacation, law
10:02 pm
enforcement told me they were going to drop off little bit and not to expect the same type of communication had gone before and pass it on to another person so it was wednesday 5:00 p.m., the last time he reached out to me. it's rough. >> what are they telling you? >> they are telling me, they can't tell me much which is frustrating because i've been trustworthy. i do know things in heaven shared things. we are the same family who found the original timeline, the same family who broke into the phon phones. we tried everything in our ability to try to get into the system because a court order is not the fastest thing so we broken and did what we did. family passwords we share so we broken and helped that so it's
10:03 pm
hard for me to give up as a father my protective ability. >> they've shared with us it was a targeted attack. can you give us information about that? have they told you who the target was were giving you more insight than the public? >> i want to talk bad about them because they are hard-working individuals and i'm doomed without them, we are all doomed without them. defunct police is a terrible idea. the fact we are finding out there's more than just my daughter in these children that have suffered, it's terrible to think we can fund them, it's an absolute atrocity that's not something -- it's not political. it's just facts. we can't allow these people to
10:04 pm
run free. beyond that, they have not shared a lot, we have private detectives that have reached out to us to give us information. we take it with a grain of salt and try to be careful. today i reached out and said this guy treated me with respect on the show, i'd like to share some things with him i found on my own and they asked me to not do that so we are holding our tongue and waiting patiently but concerned. >> i have the opportunity to speak with the same law enforcement officials today and was able to get information from them as well. we want to do everything we can to get you answers and solicit more information for the timelines but there are gaps in the timeline. is there anything you can share with us that may put people in
10:05 pm
that direction where they would feel willing to share about the timeline? >> i've heard a bit of feedback that people are nervous about the timeline. i'm going to tell you there's so much attention on this if you can share your information and can post it, it's the internet, you can do them anonymously, and for those people who are afraid, maybe intoxicated or under age, that's not what they care about. that's not going to happen so give your information -- give out the picture, the image, the image or whatever it is, give it and know there's zero chance they are coming to you for ruining your career or anything along those lines, they are just looking for data right now and
10:06 pm
you could be the key, you might be something that's overlooked so i implore people to come forward especially you are know you are even close to the timeline because technology is the only thing that doesn't lie, it's just data and we can analyze it as a society determine what is but it's just simply data so it's better than an eyewitness or anything we can produce right up there with dna and i implore you, sometimes even if you think that selfie has nothing in the background, maybe there's a car that should be there, somebody is parked next to the street and there is that tree in your car is not there. >> we are going to put the number on the screen for people to call and give any information. thank you for coming on the
10:07 pm
program, keep us posted. we will continue to follow it. thanks again. there have been so many unanswered questions in the case and speculation about what investigators have or haven't done. we took our questions straight to the source and step down with the idaho state police today. >> thank you for doing this with us. your with the state police, the fbi is on the scene and local police who's running this investigation? >> moscow police department is running the investigation when this happens, all hands on deck we working together for the same goal. >> i want to compromise the investigation but the critique or stuff circulating is the crime scene. are you confident and you have the experience, the integrity of
10:08 pm
the crime scene was not compromised in the investigation? >> i am confident there was not compromised. we know the police department arrived on scene and saw what occurred and walked it down and additional resources came in. we have the best of the best, best latest and greatest stars training so i believe in the integrity of the investigation. lawrence: to follow up quickly on the protocols, witnesses separated, crime scenes lockdown and you start off large and didn't work and smaller, when you extended the tape, was it because there's more information brought to the table? what was your reason? >> the other day we extended the crime scene, we enlarged the working area for the detectives and investigators on scene. as we have more information we
10:09 pm
can try to piece together the information and we want to go to the scene to see how it fits. it wasn't evidence collection, it was purely a workspace situation and make sure we held the integrity of the investigation so we are not enlarging and retracting the crime scene. lawrence: what type of information? when you request information, the information you've been able to collect, you got dna, has the dna been processed? have you been able to grab all the information from the servers and wi-fi, has that already been processed? >> we are continuing to ask for public health especially for video surveillance, we believe what not on the video is just as important as what is on the video.
10:10 pm
most of the evidence was to the police crime lab. as high priority for the case and they are working 24/7 to provide analytics. lawrence: so we will get more from the information they've collected, that's -- it is a big crime scene they haven't processed it all yet. all the subjects there, the people from the maternity house and the witnesses on the scene asleep during this allegedly, have they all been cleared ask. >> i can tell you the roommates there and the people who called 911, all the people in the hou house, detectives do not believe any of them were involved, all have been cooperative and helped with the investigation. lawrence: is a lot of talk about a dog at the scene that may have been one of the victims dog. was the dog present in one of
10:11 pm
the rooms were just running the house? >> to the best of my knowledge we do not know but there was a dog at the residence. once the officers came, the dog was taken to animal services where a responsible person came to take the dark. lawrence: wasn't present for the crime? >> we are not sure. lawrence: is the dog now with the victim's ex-boyfriend? >> that's not our permission to release, we know the dog was taken to animal services and a responsible came to take the d dog. lawrence: is the dog any part of the investigation? >> i don't have the answer, i'm not sure. lawrence: we learned through press conferences and the victim's parents there was a targeted subject, one of the deceased victims was the target. can you tell me who was targeted
10:12 pm
or whether notable people targeted? >> that's a difficult question because it's pertinent to the investigation. what we are consistent is saying is we believe this was targeted, not said if it's one or multiple people, that's part of the investigation that ultimately will come out but right now it's pertinent to the investigation. lawrence: i've been following your timeline and you updated as to get more information, xana and ethan, i looked at the timeline and there's a missing block 9:00 p.m. to 1:45 a.m. in our team has tried to put a map together to figure out if there are sources to provide information, have you been able to fill that timeline in? is probably critical to your investigation? >> that is very important so is
10:13 pm
also what we are trying to do so anybody with information, who would love video ring camera, anybody with thoughts or concerns, want to make sure we have a crystal clear picture of where the victims went that night. lawrence: is the fraternity house part of the crime scene? >> no but the people within the birth house have pertinent information, if they saw something out of the ordinary or interactions so anybody with the information we want to talk to. lawrence: i don't want to get into the investigation, you have to protect that but the theory of there being what people call of peeping tom, is that still an option someone was in the woods looking at the victims? if that's true, should the public still be concerned? they are still on the loose. >> that's a two-part question so the first part is essentially,
10:14 pm
have we ruled anything out? i can tell you we have not. as we are gaining a picture of what occurred, i think we can hopefully ascertain the facts of the case and potentially come up with an idea we don't want to get pigeonholed into anything because we feel we miss other facts and right now since we don't have a specific direction, we don't want to miss other facts. the second part is more about the public's concern, fear in the community, who recognize there is fear. ultimately as a person or persons in our community or someone else's community who's committed for murders so people need to be alert and aware. lawrence: obviously you got somebody on the loose so there's fear with the public. based on what you've collected and you all have profiles, why not release the profile? >> we don't currently have a suspect so as we build the picture the information will be
10:15 pm
critical to develop that so if we provide information to the public, i don't think that would be wise and potentially more fear and suspicion on a wide variety of people versus if we use it to refine where we are, i think that's more pertinent. lawrence: based on the profile is gathered and i understand it's crucial to your investigation, do you believe the suspect has an ability to attack again or do you think it's an isolated incident, specifically targeting individuals or an individual at that house? >> we have to go back unfortunately to the standard, we believe it was a targeted incident. lawrence: you don't think based on the profile, this person or persons will attack again? >> i hate to speculate, if you say one way or another, that's a
10:16 pm
disservice to the community so ultimately we know there's somebody or some people, ultimately we know there's a person or persons in a community somewhere that's committed for murders and it's important for the public to know while they may not see activity in or out of the house or here about the different interviews occurring, we are making progress have people working on the case and our ultimate resolution is find a suspect and make an arrest and go through the judicial process because that's appropriate. lawrence: joining me, former nypd, paul, thank you for taking this trip with me. earlier we have the opportunity to go by part of the crime scene and did some laughs and found a different route but a critical part is the timeline behind us is the house for the murders took place but in front of us is
10:17 pm
the fraternity house. why is that part of the timeline is so critical to you? >> two of the victims are ethan and dana, placed on the timeline at the earliest time 8:00 saturday night. the fraternity house is less than a two minute walk if you go direct and as a way to go through the street but chances are they won't, they will walk across the field and be right behind us, two minutes tops. 9:00, the last time they are on the timeline until 1:45 a.m. sunday morning of the homicides, that's a five hour gap nobody seems to know where they were or what went on in the gap. depending on the theory, it's a tremendously important piece of the entire picture. lawrence: as we walk the crime scene today looking at the buildings and houses, we didn't
10:18 pm
see ring doorbells, do you believe that part of the reason this case is in the air right now, no surveillance at all? >> is different from let's say new york city with cameras every place, you can't go 10 feet without being on camera. here for those at home, it's residential, houses and essentially college housing. it's not that atmosphere. there's woods and shrubbery and gross so not a place with open areas with cameras. you and i walked, no dice. it's not helping the situation. lawrence: what are we missing? we are approaching two weeks tomorrow. the families deserve answers. you saw the interview with the state police. what are we missing?
10:19 pm
>> let me go back to the interview you did, you could see the pain in his voice. you elicited an important piece of information that they got into kaylee's phone. that's the first i'm hearing of that and that is significant because one thing they are doing here is trying to put together using digital forensics, the timeline we are talking about and another kat is the gap during the day for kaylee and madison. they show up for the first time on the timeline at 10:00 in the information we have, we heard today is that they were out all day and then show up at 10:00. where they were during the day is not determined. her phone could be tremendously. reporter: the digital forensics take a long time and it's real meticulous work and it's good they have a task force the fbi does this kind of thing so they
10:20 pm
will track their movements to see if somebody in the orbit during the day maybe took the opportunity to do what he did. lawrence: will be with us all evening processing information, thank you for joining me. still ahead on this addition, we dive deep into the mind of a killer the impact this shocking tragedy has had here. don't go anywhere. technically when enamel is gone, you cannot get it back. but there are ways you can repair it. i'm excited about pronamel repair because it penetrates deep into the tooth to help actively repair acid-weakened enamel. i recommend pronamel repair to my patients.

10:24 pm
in idaho, we know the town is shaken and scared wondering if the killer is someone among them or someone who targeted their once quiet community. who could have done something like this? then walked away without a trace. neuropsychologist doctor lauren miller, thank you for joining us again tonight. i want to go deeper in the mind of the killer. we said previously he used a knife probably because he wanted to see their face, their emotion. what else can you tell us about the perpetrator? >> the greek life, maybe part of
10:25 pm
the college itself and maybe fell short of expectations and felt like a failure and may have envied what they represented, the attractive popular, except and by all accounts successful students and go-getters that they were so it's likely he was somebody who wanted to be part of that, felt rejected by it and the knife would allow him to achieve the closeness he probably wanted to have with at least one of them in those last moments of their life that he was finally able to inject himself into their orbit. >> before we got the information from the police you and i when we talked last, we speculated one of the individuals may have been targeted in the other
10:26 pm
collateral damage in the process of fulfilling that. now that we know that for a fact, what can you tell us? >> certainly would be unlikely the killer would have a personal grudge against all four of them especially given what we know about the victims, they don't seem to have any high-risk factors to bring them in close contact with danger such as being involved with gangs or drugs are having money issues so absent of those things, what can for people individually do for this one killer who happened to find them all sleeping in their beds under the same roof two weeks ago? that alone made it more likely there's just one target of the attack and the rest might have been collateral damage. if the motive did have something to do with feeling rejected from their circle of friends, from
10:27 pm
the house itself, the fraternity house, the college, that might have made all four of them more likely to be targeted but i think from the early statements from town officials, we heard it was a crime of passion, target targeted. we heard from the corner somebody was angry, personal. all of these things taken together that may have been leaked by the officials speak to something at the crime scene that led them to believe it wasn't a random attack. lawrence: thank you joining us tonight. still ahead, police are waiting on key test results to hopefully break the case open. what happens once the results are in? forensic expert joins us as we speak seek justice for the
10:31 pm
10:32 pm
with so many questions, what's most important? that's bring in the expert forensic pathologist fox news contributor, doctor michael. thank you for joining the program, what can you tell us about this case that's important as they have collected all this information and waiting for the results? >> there's a lot of collective affirmation the police know about such as fingerprints and shoe prints and tire prints that would help in the identificat identification. you brought up the dog with the officer, why didn't the dog ba bark? if it didn't bark, that's another indication that he was not -- the perpetrator was known to the assailant who comes in
10:33 pm
and seems to know the layout of the house, goes up to the third floor. the autopsy hasn't been released yet but the findings of the two persons stabbed to death on the third floor, if one was a targ target, that person probably has many more stab wounds and the other person who awoke and now was able to identify him. the perpetrator then comes down the stairs and is confronted by the two other people and there seems to be a struggle, bleeding defense wounds and then he leaves and allegedly walks out the same door with blood on his shoes, blood on the doorway and walks over to perhaps where his vehicle is parked and they have shoe prints and tire prints so there's forensic evidence after two weeks, most of that is
10:34 pm
coming to fruition. the one other thing people raise is the toxicology reports, that's been done and won't help much because the toxicology of the perpetrator is more important than the toxicology of the deceived who have alcohol or maybe marijuana in their systems reflective of the night they were having nothing to do with the cause of death. lawrence: i'm glad you picked up on the dog. to the naked eye some would think it's trivial but it's a key component to the investigation. i only have a few seconds left with you, one of the piece of evidence are you looking for and do you think the crime scene may have been contaminated? >> it may have been contaminated a little bit because other people came before the police
10:35 pm
were called but the police can only deal with what's there when they get there. with the interview with the officer, he indicated when he got there they locked the scene down and they take into account and must have the shoes and fingerprints from the other people who were there so they can distinguish prints the shouldn't be there from the ones that are explained. lawrence: thank you for your knowledge on this. we'll have you back with more developments, thank you for joining us. more from the interview with idaho state police. are we any closer to a suspect? don't go nicorette knows, quitting smoking is freaking hard. you get advice like: just stop. go for a run.
10:36 pm
go for 10 runs! run a marathon. instead, start small. with nicorette. which can lead to something big. start stopping with nicorette. my name is joshua florence, and one thing i learned being a firefighter is plan ahead. you don't know what you're getting into, but at the end of the day, you know you have a team behind you that can help you. not having to worry about the future makes it possible to make the present as best as it can be for everybody.

10:40 pm
got to ask you this, law enforcement language, do you have a person of interest, you may not have a suspect for is that a person of interest in this case? >> want to provide as much information as possible and we been consistent and have said we do not have a suspect a person of interest, we are building a profile putting a picture trying to put the pieces together and when the time comes we will put the information out as quickly as we can. lawrence: still no suspect, it's been two weeks since moscow, idaho was put on the map for all the room wrong reasons. i want to bring somebody on who knew before it hit the headlines. fox news contributor mark joins us. you wore the badge before and you know the town, are you
10:41 pm
concerned about the investigation or do you have full confidence? >> i think they are giving it their all and they have expertise and experience giving them advice but they are calling the shots. they are doing what they're supposed to, the center of the investigation, they've collected physical evidence and there's a lot of fingers crossed waiting for forensic evidence in hopes something is going to break. lawrence: why do you think it is taking so long? you think it's the wrong area and they don't have as much surveillance in the area of the major city would have? when i look at the timelines, there are still bits and pieces not filled in. is it because they went home for the break? >> it could be but the most
10:42 pm
important timeline is the timeline that surrounds when six people return to their residen residence, four of which were murdered in the timeline is pretty tight so we know the two on the first floor came back at 1:00, we know 1:45 a.m. xana and ethan came back and went to the second floor bedroom and 1:56 a.m. kaylee and madison came back so when i hear that tight of a timeline, i wonder how the suspect actually picked up his targeted victim. did they see him that night knew what they were on their way ho home, or they waiting and watching at the house? if they are watching the house, they see two people go in the front, two people go in and enter the sliding glass door in the front and then for people are the target and waiting for
10:43 pm
their target now if it is kaylee or madison so it would seem unlikely the suspect would be waiting outside watching and then going into a house with six people so the two roommates on the first floor survived. the four victims on the second and third floor did not so an even tighter timeline because we know kaylee and madison were talking or calling the same person about 2:42 a.m. to 252, they stopped calling at 2:52 a.m. and kyiv is ex-boyfriend, they were probably together. in the same room trying to call jack. so where they in the room at the time of the murder together? just exactly how did the suspect
10:44 pm
know that everybody was asleep between 3:00 and 4:00 when kaylee and madison were awake at 2:52 a.m.? this is what's troubling exactly how the suspect targeted and got in and committed the murder. lawrence: is suggests the suspect may have known almost certainly the victims. thank you for joining the program. my next guest has been showing us investigated curves for years. when we return, don't go the virus that causes shingles is sleeping... in 99% of people over 50. it's lying dormant, waiting... and could reactivate. shingles strikes as a painful, blistering rash that can last for weeks. and it could wake at any time. think you're not at risk for shingles?
10:45 pm
10:48 pm
welcome back to cross country on this location moscow, idaho. my next two guests have been walking us through the criminal justice process for years. former u.s. marshal an expert depaul as well as host of ids crime scene, crime scene investigator alina. thank you for joining us. what can you tell me about processing a crime scene and how critical it is in the early
10:49 pm
stages. >> obviously it's critical early stages to get as much evidence as possible to keep the crime scene from being contaminated and in this case they've done their best certainly, as violent as a crime we have with this, a sharp edged weapon with multiple victims, multiple injuries likely what investigators are focusing on is the hope and chance there's exponential chance they've injured themselves in the process so that means there's a chance of dna and left on the crime scene so we got a chance at dna left on the crime scene, obviously they are open for that. universal best piece of evidence forensically speaking is his suspects fingerprints in victims blood. 113 evidence have been submitted to crime the in that could
10:50 pm
ultimately lead us to a specific individual. lawrence: when i was observing the case from the studio, it seems like there's forest area where there could be a peeping tom but it's not that way when they come on the scene, they are stacked up on each other, apartments are very close. the suspect could potentially be among us in one of these houses. >> absolutely. what i've said from the beginning, they are chasing a ghost right now, a fishing expedition but it's about collection right now. human intelligence, signal intelligence and the fbi opened up a portal, they got video and photos coming in so they are doing it by the numbers, connecting the dots i think they are focusing on the targeted individual, the individual who was the target. they've got to start there and
10:51 pm
work backwards. the digital footprint will be important everybody is focusing on what happened two weeks ago but you have to go back historically and i don't think the suspect just woke up that morning to do what was done. i feel it's been going on for a while kaylee mentions a stalker. it's not substantiated yet but who was that person? they're putting the puzzle together. lawrence: i know this has been talked about before when it comes to the target, explain what a crime scene would be potentially if someone was the target. >> from the perspective of a single target, if somebody -- a targeted event versus a random event? lawrence: yes. >> police haven't really released the information why they feel it's a targeted event
10:52 pm
which is fine, we want them to keep the information private. ultimately as much as everybody wants to find a reason why this occurred, we have to remain focused on the fact that the victims and victims families and working for them is what we are focused on right now but they have specific information why it target and it could be the reason it was planned, it appears there was not forced entry, it could be the fact that it appears there is a level of comfort the suspect has inside the crime scene to traverse bookable floors inside rental home, three floors and he was comfortable, i say he put meaning the suspect, was comfortable moving from the second to the third floor, it took time to carry out the crime and they had to have a certain

lawrence: we are back here live with inexpect tore paul murrow. you have been with us all day going through the crime scene trying to get some information. i understand the frustration of the public. they want answers. and i understand from the law enforcement perspective that they can't reveal too much information that would hurt their investigation. but that doesn't stop a reporter like me from pushing and pushing. but why don't they release more information. >> if we gave out the names of important witness or suspects. there is the possibility that other people including media get
10:58 pm
to those people first and essentially get in the way. maybe influence what they say. they dealt with over 600 tips. you need a way to winnow down all those tips. when tips come in, if embedded in the tips is information that hasn't been publicly released, you know, i have to pay attention to this one. it's a way to focus your resources. if they get a subject and they can interview that person. maybe they are not arrested yet. if they manage to elicit from that opinion facts that haven't been publicly released, they know, this our guy. they hold that back so they can confirm later on that their in the right place. >> there is a key piece in this investigation where i still feel
10:59 pm
if they release information they may get more confidence who the targets are. wouldn't that be better for their investigation if they could zero in on the target before this incident occurred. >> bedon't know who the target is. i don't know that they know who the target is. i have seen a couple of the interviews. they are cautious about the language they use. they say specifically we believe this attack was targeted. but they won't say it was to any one person. they are putting together some of the facts they have and assessing this couldn't have been a crime of opportunity which you and i agree with. you don't just stumble upon this. somebody was here by choice. and i think they assessed
11:00 pm
somebody did it because they knew necessity could do it. they knew the time of day they could do it. somebody in their orbit. lawrence: that's critical for this investigation. thanks for being with us. we'll be here next saturda happy thanksgiving weekend, i am bryan kilmeade and this is one nation. a special show. tim tebow, dave ramsey, two great ones queuing up ready to go. let's start here, thanks giving leftovers now in the fridge, holiday season now officially in full swing, it's beginning to look a lot like christmas as trees light up around the world including our ow
