forcibly locked inside their own homes, in some cases to starve to death. secret police cruised the streets, forcing pedestrians into windowless vans for the crime of being outside. household pets, dogs and cats, were declared unclean, and beaten to death on the sidewalk. it was a hellish dystopian scene. so lane returned to the u.s. to tell tony fauci what he'd seen, but tony fauci was not disgusted, appalled by the human rights abuses that he saw in china. according to a new report, based on depositions that emerged this month, tony fauci was envious. they have what we have to do in the u.s., fauci t told lane. it's obvious from day one, china was the model that public health officials were why you having to respond to covid here. it's still the model. in fact, lockdowns are still happening in china. they never ended. our public health officials have never stopped applauding those

lockdowns. in april of this year, the chinese government shut down shanghai, the largest city in china. it's one of the biggest cities in the world, the population three times the size of new york city. 25 million people. all 25 million are suffering indefinite lockdown. shanghai is the largest human prison camp in history. why is the chinese government doing this? no honest person believes it has anything to do with public health, because it doesn't, proveably. as of sunday, there were no covid deaths reported in china, a nation of a billion an and a f people. covid is not a threat to the chinese government. political unrest is a threat to the chinese government. always has been. that's the point. in china, as in the united states, covid policy is not a public health matter. covid policy is a way to strip

from the population the most basic civil liberties and remain in charge. that's very clear. that's exactly why our leaders support what's happening in china tonight, because they'd like to see it happen here too. hundreds of millions of people imprisoned across the country. that according to an epidemiologist is in everyone's interest. really? here's what it looks like in china. >> some were forced to quarantine outside in the cold, in parking lots. this viral video, which cnn could not verify, shows others forced to stay in bathrooms, sleeping under urinals. this one, the video says it's a quarantine site for kids. a little boy jumping on bricks to avoid the pool of dirty liquid, where they use the bathroom. this woman sobs on the ground crying, that after she was caught with her mask pulled down, the government suspended her business for 30 days, losing

a month's income. metal spikes, which the fan filming says were installed on a compound gate to prevent residents from leaving. >> tucker: hmm. so those are ad hoc covid concentration camps, but there are new purpose-built covid concentration camps under construction right now throughout china. a city in the west of china has been effectively been its own concentration camp for the last three months, completely locked down, residents unable to leave home. last week a huge fire broke out in an apartment complex in that city. the government sealed the doors, including the exits to the outside. it took firemen three hours to control the blaze. by that time, 10 people roasted to death inside, including a 3-year-old child. news spread throughout the country. in china, as in the united states, social media are censored by the people in charge. spent a lot of time and money

mr. ratcliffe, thank you for coming on. it's hard to have perspective on this, including me, when you see these videos. how serious are these protests potentially do you think? >> well, we've never seen protests like this in over 30 years in china. it really will force the chinese government to change their governance model. ever since tiananmen square, the government has said we're not going to let that happen again. we'll engage in the largest massive surveillance state in the history of the world against our own citizens. if we get a whiff of discontent we're going to stamp it out. they've been successful in doing that. this is the first time in 33 years that we've now seen nationwide protests. it's not just a -- the problem or the challenge for xi jinping, it's moved from a one issue, covid issue, to a call for his removal and regime change. i don't think anyone knows how this will play out. it's very serious.

very clearly the chinese communist party will have to adopt a different governance model going forward in light of what's going on there. >> tucker: i don't think a day has passed in the last two years where we haven't gotten a lecture about democracy from the biden administration. how can they not have a position on this given their commitment to democracy? >> the president's statement today was -- let's just be nice -- it was late, slow, weak, and cowardly. that's about the kindest i think thank you see. this is the same president who had an opportunity to confront the chinese president after three years, a million americans were killed by a virus that originated in china and he didn't do it. as disheartening as it is, it's not surprising. the silence from the left is deafening. i saw this type of intelligence on a daily basis about how brutal the chinese communist party could be.
