10:00 pm
all the heart pounding action. >> i'm a huge fan bone crunching beatdowns and the close quarter chaos. you get a handle st.. the john trilogy all month long. >> you're holding me back . i'm back. >> good evening and welcome to tucker carlson.. note happy tuesday unless you read the daily mail, which is an english paper published online, you probably didn'tpu, knowyo it.'t kno chinese president xi jinpingin sent tanks into a major city last night in order to put downi protests against his rule. >> virtually no american mediath outlets even acknowledged that ha happened. and that's pretty weird if you. think about it. imagine foine, forr example, tha hungarian leader viktor orban put tanks into budapesutt
10:01 pm
to crush his political opponents. >> what our media notice opponent. >> oh, yeah, they would.ag it'd be on the front page of the new york times. morning joe would lead with it.a and keep in mind thatry hungary is a very small country. got a gdp smaller than south dakota's china by profound contrast, has the the biggest economy in the world. china's our main global riva world.l. it's a highly significant place. and yet someho pw no one in anyr newsroom in america noticed when jinping decidedican to rey tiananmen square. they didn't see it, evenre thouh the pictures on the internet. e >> how's that possible? interne. could it be that the americanicn news media is covering forewdias the government of china? >> you can't say what you make the call on that. we can say we know for a fact that apple is covering for the government of china. forern china. apple is the apple is the most valuable company in the world. it's got a current market caheph of trillions of dollars. trill financial listings describe apple is an americanio company. you can see why they do. hea apple is headquartered in the united states . tered inwas founded by american. to this day, it's run by an

american citizene . >> but those facts don't tell the story. in fact, at this point, appl pe is in no sense american.y apple's loyalty is to the government of china. and if you think that's an overstatement, consider this. earlier this month, apple did c the bidding of the chinese governmentnt t to crush domestia protests against the communist party. inommunisttheir apple did thisai by disabling its permanent air drop feature in china and sohe l far only in china. it's the only country iny in whh it's disabled. so why did apple disable that feature in china?able t e na?well, because that featuree permanent air drop allows iphone users to communicateanot directly with one another withouheusint using the interner cellular networks, both of a which in a totalitarian state like china, are controlled china by the government and that means that without permanent air drop, it's effectively impossible for freedom mindedganize citizens to organize with one another. they're powerles w s. >> apple, of course, knows i this. and that's why when iphone t ai users in china began usingcompla
10:03 pm
permanent air drop to complainin downt the communis thet party, apple just shut it down. in other words, again, this is not an overstatement. apple is now an active collaborator with china's. police state. >> when tanks rollen into the chinese city, appleti is rooting for the tanksng. >> well, for a company basedn je outside san jose, this seems like a big step.a becoming a partner with the chie chinese police state. yes,se and yet, once again, thic fact received virtually no. coverage in the united states .t apple's decision to side with oppressors over the oppressed. apple's decision to actively opprecisio enemies to hurtemies, ordinary people seeking freedomt nost wasn't news in the view of the new york times. >> not shoulhould bed be surprid by it. apple has been up to the mammunist party of china for manyny years. 201 >> watch this clip from 2017 of the company's ceo, tim cook.e an >> china has done anevable unbelievable j job of lifting people out of poverty. they've done an incredible job
10:04 pm
. it mean far beyond what anyy ha country has done.d mi we were talking abouts to nineteen mid nineties to today . the biggest change is then peule number of people that have been pulled out of poverty by far. . and we shoul d all applaud that. and you should all feel good about it. and so there are in the environmental leadership today is very clear and itmplety aligns completely with apple's value. - the chinese environmental, the u.s. government. >>mean, they're they're very fixated on on doing the righto things to avert climate change. oh,cl a very clever pastiche of half truths that lies.. >> so in the first category, it is true that china is far richer than it was thirty years ago. that's indisputable. years o.but what tim cook doesnt mention is that much ofd vi the money and virtually all of
10:05 pm
the technology, a large proportion of which was stolen ,came from the united states . so that's a debatable claim at best. >> but environmental leadership from chinal leadersh, that is nt a debatable claim. tim cook is telling us in that clip with a straight face thattn the chinese government is a model for environmental stewardship. >>odel for and that is completep ludicrous. lechina is the opposite of that. it's the greatest offender against the environment. china is the biggestlute pollut in the world by far. thno country comes close, not just in carbon emissions. or building new coal plants, but in plastics in the ocean.s n in heavy metals, in the ground, polluting the land and the water. land and water? china leads the pack. china leads the pack. no one's close. that's widely known. so if you're claimingcook otherwise, you're just lying, which tim cook absolutely is . but the question is , why is he lying? why does apple, as a company and its ceo in that clipth and many others feel the needins to cover for the chinesee
10:06 pm
communist party? why does it feelcommunist partyp the chinese communist party oppress its own citizens? >> those are good questions. thwe reached out today to applea >>r we wanted to hear their sie of the story. we did not hear back . >> so instead, we will bringcoom you tim cook's most recentrece explanationtn. >> and this is from last year. here it is . you have bee n criticized for not speaking out on humanina an rights issues, for example, in china and other in other countries as well. this is something i think a lot lo oft of c companies that that hao been doing business in china struggle with a number of companies, as yoatu have abandoned china. how do you think about that?hina i think that we have a responsibility as a business to do business in as many places as we can, becauseness i think business is this huges s catullus. >> i believe in what tom watson said is world peace through world trade. >> you have to get your head around when you're operating outside the u.s. and any country in the world that there are different laws. >> and so that's that's parte
10:07 pm
that both the complexity and part of the beauty off the world is that everybody has their their own lawsws a and customnds. a there's a reason that guy runsve the world's most valuable company. there's talent there. there' the a total lack of defensiveness. the question effectively was, defeh from ing ric business with bloodthirsty dictators. he's not bothered by what we're really doing. mr. "new york times" guy, we're seeking world peace throughekin world trade, world peacewo through world trade. soworl helping the chinese polie state put down peaceful protest with tanks. >> it's not a sin. it's a virtue. it's a blow for world peace. sin that was tim cook's h explanation. >> and in any case, explain yoao got to follow the laws of the countries that you operate in.un it's that simple. you don'tries t want to break, i the law. >> all right.cook let's co well, let's continuent that appe standard here in the united states where apple is headquartered, free speech lw is the law. it's the first law.e fi it's the firstrs guarantee in or our bill of rights. b and yet, strangely, for a company that claims
10:08 pm
to respect local customs , apple has done far more than its elime to eliminate free speech in the united states . >> we can give you many examples. here's a new one in the middle of the covid pandemic, a smalloe video sharing site called oddisee was trying to get approval to be listed on apple's app store l. the app store is one the most powerful things that apple has for many people. the the app is the portal to the mak company who's makingin the app. so for a startup like odyssey, getting on the app store was an essential step.e roughly roughly half of the adults in the united states use iphones states . so if you're not on the app store, you're shafted. >> but apple is hesitantnt t to allow oddisee on the app store. why? store well, because unlike youtube owned by google, oddisee, allowed its users to search fore informatiod n on the origins of covid and the juhan institutein of virologs of cy. oh, if you used oddisee, youth might know that the patron of
10:09 pm
apple was in fact responsible for the covid pandemic. so users of oddisee could the search for videos challenging also the effectiveness of the covered vaccineseffectiv, sg transmission of the virus. >> svio to apple, thatru kins.do free speech, truly free speech, searching for actual answers and not just more propaganda, was totally unacceptable. so apple presentedunac oddisee with a list of nearly two dozen search terms, most related to covid that it had to ban ify it wanted to join the app store . u your users cannot know this.an if you want to participate in. our monopoly and they have a monopoly and it's hard to imagine a more serious abuse of monopoly power than what apple did in that and many other instances. so the biggest company in the world banning a video sharing website, reaching halfah the country because people might search for accuratearch f information that apple didn't want them to see because it might offendor accur their spont communist china. >> well, that's kind of a story . and yet its went completely unreported at the time. we didn't know about it unti we didn'l this week.ee and we learnedk. because elon
10:10 pm
musk, who now owns twitter e, revealed on twitter that apple may remove twitter from the appa store as well. and that would, ofor course, enl twitter. you don't go to twitter except through its app. thro apple? there are signs that it might.eh the executive who runs apple'set app store, a man called phil schiller, just deleted his twitter account. well, that's weird. count.apple has virtually stoppd buying ads on twitter. >> that's weirdsd to .o. >> so would apple do this? well, several tech developers ar te coming forward to confirm that this is exactly how apple operates and it has for years.ha so when apple,s through the social media company parlor off the app store, rememberus that because they allowed donald trump to speak, you thought itdonald t was an anoma. it wasn't. >> thi s is what they do. that. >> and few people really understood that. in fact, for years, moste most n the most cynical observers assumed the big tech companies like apple censorsh like app. yes, they do, but only inces. extraordinary circumstances.. they do it all the t oh, noim, they do it all the time. >> in fact, appl ae engages in
10:11 pm
large scale, secretive censorship and always and everywhere apple helps the chinese government. so preve >> so preventing americanitizen citizens from saying whatbout they believe or getting to the truth about something whilthinge bolstering the power of one of the most repressive governments in the world. this summer, forumme example, an ftc commissioner called brendan carr went to apple about tiktok, tiktok was and is on the app store. no threat of tic-tac being kicked up and the ftc commissioner told apple the tick tock was likely ha user datarivate l from hundreds of millions of americans and sending those data back to china. >>at bac china now, apple must n that what carr was telling them was likely true, but apple ignored him anyway and did nothing. >> so step back and consider the priorities, apple's prioritiesties, ap run stark die here. twitter must be silenced because it allows americans to exercise their birthright, which is free speech,
10:12 pm
a prerequisite for a free society in a democracy. but tiktok must be protectedsit because the chinese government usesa it as a tool of espionag. that is , apple's position. so at this point, the realnage. question is , will apple be allowed to strangle twitter, which it could, because it hasoa monopoly power. so far , virtually no one in american politics seems to have noticed this is happening. >> no one certainly is moving i. to stop apple from doing it. we wthough.r of a moment we will speak to the governor of florida, ron desantis, who said today hfp believes that apple woulpld be abusing its monopoly power if it did that. ey >> but in the meantime, we are very happy to be joined by david sax. thf the founders of las paypal. >> he spent 25t the last twenty five years as a major figurea in the tech worldd and has been watching very carefully what's happening with elon musk's happelon musk h the acquisition of twitter. david sacks, thanks so muc fh fr coming on .da vid.so good to be here. >> if apple did this, it would it seems like it would effectively destroy twitter as the force that it currentlyld
10:13 pm
is . that would be an abuse b monopoy power. >> i think everyone would agree. what can be done p to stopower t well, yeah, i agree with you, i tucker, that what apple is doing in china is not that different from apple's doing in the u.s. they are willing to engage in censorship on ahalo global basis on behalf ofr their true paymasters. and by paymasters, i don't mean consumers. apple has them completely locked up. what i mean is theup party in power, whether that's in beijing or washington, thiss th is the quid pro quo thata maggette democrats have made, of course, by maggard democrats. i'm referring to microsoft, apple, google and amazon. g they have the most lucrativeoo monopolies in history and want to continue minting money indisturbed and in exchange for that, they wil el donate lavishy to the democratic party and they're willing to kneecap their political opponents with censorship. if that's what the party in power requires eecap thei. >> you know, the traditional libertarian position on this, i which i ascribe to you forti may years, i'll just say it was lib that, you know, the first amendment protects americans from having their speech hampered by the governmentrican
10:14 pm
. rnment but all speech takes place t online. at this point. we know that there areakeslace e connections between the tech companies and the government currently in power. they're censoring people. ctthe direction of of the u.s. government. >> so really, if you censor twitter, you're eliminating my right to speak freely as anop americanfreely a, which is a constitutional problem. >> so why can't someone take action against tak us ?nk y >> tucker, i think you're right. i mean, what's basically happened here is that the government has found a kind of loophole in the firsthe fir amendmen t. the first amendment stated itnt only applies to government, to congreso s. buift if the government can basically get big tech to dolaim it, censorship for it, it can claim that this was done by private actors. the problem is that the town square has been privatized. when content got digitized, it got centralized in the hands of a few big tech companies. and the problem here, though, is that these big tech companies aren't just acting on their own. they're acting, you know, atgove the behest of of the government in washington. waand , you know, whether it's the bush administration or
10:15 pm
sena, the judiciarycompan committee, they have suggested these companies that their monopolies might upn if they don't take tec down more content. and so bigs tech has gotten the message. they want their monopolies to continue undisturbed. they want to keep mintin they wang moneyoing a . and so they arnde responding by practicing the censorship. >> i just got to finally ask you a personal question. so you've you've been in this business at the top of this business all your life, effectively. ll you everythingeen in the tech world. were you shocked to learn that apple was preventing nonviolent protesters in china fromrs communicatin in chg each other? it is pretty shocking becausead the way that it was done, tucker, wan s they had an updat. it was like sixteen point one point one or something lik e that. o when and they didn't say normallyn what they do is when they do anp updateut, they put in the releae notes what they're changingy and they said insa the release notes they were changing, you know, doing bug fixes and so xe on . they didn't mentios.n they were limiting the use of this a airdrop feature. normally, applir e is very proudreleas of their releases and they're eager to tell consumeres ts whan
10:16 pm
is that they're doing. but in this casen', for some reason, they didn't mentiohave tn. hy. >> you have to wonder why it's so dark.it's it's unbelievable. unbelieand i know that you come on this show and speak your mind at some cost yourself, given the world that'r you live in. so i'm appreciative that you'rge willing to . >> david sacks, thank you very much. thanks, dr >>.. ll thi sos , as we said, all of thisod is happening without anybody in power, political power, really responding to it.. ron desantis one of the onlyrs maybe the only officeholder we're aware of who said anything about it today.l join to e going to join us in just a moment to explain what he t thinks. b >> but first, it used to be pretty obvious. in fact, the moss, the most obv of all, that if you a child, you can't live among us .e th you go to jail. but in california, the rules, oy have been completely inverted. only decent people are punishedt . i the government there is bringing thousands of child molesters hard to believe, butr it's true. >> for details, we go to 90%o jh boswell, a senior reporter atbr
10:17 pm
the daily mail who broke this story. josh , thanks so much forthto coming on . what have yoryu foun.omd ininwht the state of california? >> so ther he is a database in the state of california that allows people to look up at sex offenders, people who live near to them. maybe, but. and what you can'tos do is look at the database. on mass to look at the statistics from it. o so i wrote a bit of code to pull down some of thatho public information, had to look at i t and what we found wass th there are over 700er0 who have been convicted of lewd and lascivious acts against an under 14 year old who spent less than a year in prison or in jail, which was quite shocking.is and some otef the examples realy stuck out to me. so we're so we're looking at someone like noah holt, who wehighlighte highlighted in the storyd from santa cruz county.he he was convicted of those lewd and lascivious acts with an under 14 childa indecenundetd o exposure. and he pled no contest in 2013.4 he is out with a job in 2014. and you've got similar examples.
10:18 pm
cullison, ehu, continuous was sexual abuse of a child he was convicted of in 2012.in he spent two days in jail and he nowhe lives one block frm a daycare. according to the database, which is in california, runifori by the california departmenta bh justice. we askedey them to give us the data, but they refused. so i had to write the script to put this all together so that i could show the public this information. >> s to justhi to be clear , the are not technical sex crimes. this is not a 17 year old and an 18 getting frisky at the prom and getting arrested. this is child molestation is molestingd frisky little kid, prepubescent kids. that's right. yeah.d there is this kind of sense that maybe there's a few people in that database who haven't really a haven't been convicted of anything super serious. but actually , there are, therew 19 thousand of the fiftyon five thousand that we savictedw who were convicted of this molesting under 14 . these are serious offensesng a f and these are people who areew i spending just a few months in prison for these reallsoy awful
10:19 pm
heinous crimes. i mean, how can gavin newsom? allow this to happen? hid he's the governor of the state. hae state is hidine g the data from the public and from journalists like you, as heythig said. do you think about this? his state? yeah, >> so, yeah, i reached out to the attorney general's office. and because they're the ones who administer thier this databe and gavin newsom himself hasn't spoken on this at all, but what. they were telling me is that this isn't their problem. court. it's the local it's the courts, it's the localo d.a. but really, this is ar problem for the whole state of california. and prosecutors i spoke to saide this could be partly a result of wanting to release prisonersa early from prison becauseus they're wanting to let violenttn and nonviolent offenders out there and reduce the prison population. prithe problem is that among those, quote, nonviolent offenders, some of these have hihigh risk of reoffending, according to studies done on those kinds of people, studi the almost certain risk below a certain age. >> i mean, it certaisk. f you're under 75 , you're probably going to reoffend, another child. unbelievable.
10:20 pm
josh boswell, thank you so>> thk much. >> thank you. so if you think it's tough to speak your mind in this country. >> imagine being a famous entertainer or a singer or an actor. if you stray from the script, you get crushed immediately.e they have to do it to you. crusy that happened to winston marshall, played lead guitar for years for mumford and sons one of the best bands in the world. now, winston marshall joins us in a moment to explain what happened to him and how he feels about it now. he joins us now to yellowstone. look, the same today as they described in these terms. one hundred and fifty years ago, i'm walking in the shadow of the pioneers following the trail. they placed. okay, here we go . the place up and to sign up to get a special limited fox

and free shipping at triwest .com westmar sure was a founding member of the folk band mumford and sons, world famous and for good reason, he played banjo and guitar. but last year everything changed. in an instant, marshall tweeted praise for a book by andy no on tv. >> he wrote this quote, finally had the time to read your important book. you're a brave man. that was it. nothing more than that. well, in response to that, the mob absolutely descended like a swarm of bees on winston marshall. he put out a statement saying he needed to assess his, quote, blindspots. and then because of all the attention, since he didn't want to be a political activist ,he was a musician. he left the band. >> now, winston marshall has resurfaced. he hosts a podcast for the spectator called marshall matters. he's learned a lot from the experience. we want to check in with him
10:26 pm
tonight. winston marshall joins us now. mr. marshall, thanks so much. for coming on . that was i remember thinking that was one of the most unreasonable attacks on anybody i've ever seen in my life. what happened to you? what did you learn from it? >> tucker, thank you for having me. yeah, it was quite reasonable and reflecting now, 18 months later, completely insane, really. i mean, i read a book through the pandemic. i was tweeting about books. i was reading from mao's little red book to tolstoy's war. and peace. and for some reason, to my not many followers, this book tweeting about and , you know, the conservative journalist, this book blew up and before the end of the day, the weekend ,i think it was a segment on your show as well as on the view. i had antifa online activists changing my wikipedia page to winston marshall is from winston. marshall is a banjo player to mr. marshall is a fascist. not only is that ludicrous, but doubly ludicrous given that fascist actually slaughtered thirty members of my family,
10:27 pm
the holocaust. so my family know about fascism. but yes, antifa is a modern day problem in america and i didn't, i guess, anticipate how totemic the issue was at the time when they drove you from a job that you were great at and certainly succeeding at . if it happened to you again today, would you have handled differently? >> well, initially, i apologize . i issued an apology and i was made to take time away from the band, as you said, to examine my blindspots. now, i don't regret that because when you offend someone, it's natural to say you're a dinner party offense. when he said, i'm so sorry, how have i offended you? and then you look into it. and i spent the months that came after that looking into the topic. now, the book documents the nineteen in the first 14 days of the blm writes it documents the many black businesses damaged and ruined
10:28 pm
by the looters. and in the riots, as i said, and not to mention the federal courthouse in portland being under siege for the entire month of july 2020 and much else. and i looked into it and i thought i'd been right. actually , these are serious problems and the music industry, the torts to say it cares for black lives. well, it should care about the black lives because the majority of those 19 deaths were black lives. majority of those businesses that were damaged were black businesses. and so we ought to care about those. and we need to think about that when we're looking at the whole gray picture. so once i examined my blind spots and the author and the conservative journalist in that period, was attacked once more by anarchists antifa mobs in portland, oregon, i thought, you know what, my apology, it's part of the lie. and i can't be part of the lie. so i decided then the only thing for me to do was to quit the band, retract my apology. but now i live in the truth.
10:29 pm
and i feel liberated by that. so i'm glad for that. and i don't have any regrets. what an what an inspiring response. living in the truth. and you feel liberated by . let me ask you one last question, because i was wondering about this. since i'm not in the music business, how is your your management team, i assume you have one people around, manager adrian. >> i mean, the people who give you career advice as as a musician, what was their view ? >> well, the music industry is a very small industry. and i would say that it's not entirely clear to me whether there is a choke hold by progressives on the industry or whether there's a minority of progressives that have a choke hold on the majority. that's not entirely clear , but there's certainly a lot of self-censorship going on . and that's not just in the music industry. it's across the creative industries in hollywood and across your great country, america and in britain. there's a lot of self-censorship, people who are too scared to say the truth. and i think that's because, you
10:30 pm
know, there's professional and social repercussions if if you do speak the truth. and that and that's a serious issue. i know you've been talking a lot about free speech on tonight's show, so i thought it was worth mentioning that. and when it comes to the the business side, some of them are scared. some of them are scared to say the truth. and others believe many are progressive as well, who believe that there's a real split there. when i say sorry, when i say i believe i mean, they believe in those progressive ideas and those ideologies in that part of the echo chamber is a mixture. >> you seem stronger and wiser for the experience, which is great. i hope you play banjo again, though, because you were great. you are great. winston marshall, thank you for joining us . >> thank you, tucker. well, speaking of public figures who got kicked out of their old friend group for having bad ideas and then fought deeply about what is true and what is not. tulsi gabbard posted the video to twitter today that got her attention. >> she joins us next to discuss it. plus, a cardiologist in britain
