personal freedoms in light of these lockdowns? >> the white house supports the right of peaceful protest. >> ainsley: this incident is not going to speak for them. they can speak for themselves. but, actually, they risk being beaten. they risk being arrested if they speak for themselves. so they are being criticized. the white house is being criticized for not taking a strong enough stance. china is violating basic human rights in that country. and many are saying our president should react to how these protesters are being treated. the government of arkansas, asa hutchison says biden should always support in freedom. america does support the protesters, dan crenshaw, republican from texas tweeted why is it so hard for this administration to support freedom, pure cowardice. >> brian: yeah, it's pretty amazing that we can't even support it. understanding that you have to deal with china. understanding you are trying to defrost relations but also understanding what is right and wrong. we hear the chants of liberty. we understand the chants of freedom. we also understand the

our thanks. your rewards. >> brian: at least 25 reported tornadoes ripping through the south overnight and more than 40 million americans remain under a severe storm threat system hammering arkansas, louisiana and mississippi with intense twisters and massive hail. >> power outages and flash flooding also major concerns as new video shows a bridge in mississippi completely washed out. >> steve: from the flooding. and at least two people injured in caldwell paper irish, where a twister carved a path of destruction overnight. fox senior meteorologist janice dean came in early to track all of it. janice, i'm looking at the radar and pretty much the entire eastern third of the united

states is impacted by this storm. over 300,000 people right now under some sort of warning. let's take a look at the storm reports. you mentioned over two dozen reports of tornadoes. that's reports of tornadoes. of course, the national weather service is going to go out and assess the damage. we also had over 100 reports in total of severe weather, including tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds and we still have tornadoes watchesy effect until 10:00 a.m. central time as you can see for parts of mississippi and 11:00 a.m. central time for alabama and the florida panhandle. a watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes. and as we look at the warnings right now we do have a tornado warn storm. panhandle of florida right at the alabama border. that red polygon means that we are spotting rotation on doppler radar and then all of the lightning strikes as well. that could be very dangerous. we also have severe thunderstorm

warnings and flash flood warnings. we are not done yet. here are the statistics right now. we have 8 warnings in effect. including two tornado warn storms, the past 15 minutes 800 lightning strikes. population under some sort of warning close so million. winds over 60 miles per hour. and hail upwards of 2 inches in diameter. so that can be really dangerous. as we go through the next 6 to 12 hours. the potential for severe storms for parts of the panhandle up towards alabama and georgia. these won't be as severe as we saw yesterday and overnight. the energy is just not there. but we could see some tornadoes, a couple of tornadoes and certainly large hail and damaging winds and heavy rainfall. so there is the tornado risk as we go through the next couple of hours. the tornado watch in effect until 11:00 a.m. for that region. the cold front associated with this system is going to sweep across the east coast. we are actually going to get rain here in the northeast.

118 fentanyl deaths were recorded in the first six months of 2022. that's the same amount in the entire year of 2021. now, travis county is pushing for narcan availability and for the state to legalize fentanyl test strips. travis county texas judge andy brown joins us now. good morning to you. >> good morning. thanks for having me, ainsley. >> ainsley: thanks for coming on. i know you are at the forefront of trying to safe the lives of individuals who have these accidental overdose. tell us what you are doing. >> yeah. basically nobody should die because of an addiction and because of those numbers that you just pointed out to us in trafsz county, that's exactly what is happening. there are people dying of preventable overdose deaths in travis county, and really there is two things we are pushing for to try to stop that and that is fentanyl strips at the state level and removing barriers to getting more narcan or that

locks can out in the community. >> fentanyl strips are something people can use to test if they have a drug that they are about to take to see if there is fentanyl in it or not. what we are seeing in travis county is people -- the fact that the numbers have increased so much this is a public health crisis. back in may when i heard of these numbers from the medical examiner, i declared a health crisis in travis county. put almost half a million dollars of securing more narcan and naloxone. peer counselors to help in thissization. right now getting the narcan out to the community. got some out through a series of bars in austin agreed to keep it in their bars. and what we we are asking now for the state of texas to join us and legalize fentanyl strips and reduce barriers for getting narcan out. >> ainsley: why do you think there is such a significant

increase in your county? >> well, covid hit everybody really hard. the number of people, for example, in our jail who have unmet mental health has gone up 21% to 4 a 5%. something we are seeing across the united states people had frankly very hard time during covid and the fact that fentanyl is increasingly in all drugs. though don't know fent is in it. people seek out fentanyl but we see a lot of people taking it unknowingly frankly. that's why we need make sure that narcan and naloxone is available everywhere. if it's in a bar and they see someone overdosing right there. then they can get the life-saving medication to them quicker often than an ambulance would because of the travel time for an ambulance. >> ainsley: thank you for saving americans' lives. when we talk to border patrol agents they say it's chinese fentanyl and sees more and more of it coming in from over the

accident on his way home. here with us, the hero who risked his life for another nic perry jr. and brookfield connecticut fire chief andrew ellis who was first on the scene after nick. guys, good morning to you. >> good morning how are you doing? >> doing okay. so, nic, you were driving home. you are a firefighter in white plains, new york. you are driving through brookfield, connecticut on the way home. and what did you see? just driving down route 7 and i seen a vehicle a little off the shoulder with its hazards on. go to go around them to see if everything is all right. it's a woman frantically waving me down and telling me a car went offer the ravine to the woods. i happened to look to the right and that's when i noticed the vehicle was starting to get pretty well involved. they told me there was someone trapped inside. and i just instinct training kicked.

in i ran down there. and i found a female passenger was pinned pretty bad in the car, slumped over. >> and i had seconds to act. so i just do what i had to do to get her out. >> steve: you know, you know, you are taught. you have got have the gear on. you didn't have the gear. but, if you had -- if you had to go get some gear, that lady would have died. >> yeah there was no -- no time to waste in that situation. now or never situation. i had to act. again, trust my instincts and training and remain calm. i just do what i had to do to get her out. just ended up can with a successful outcome. >> steve: chief, you were first on the scene after nick. so you saw exactly what he did. you didn't know, i doubt, at that point that he was a firefighter. you just thought he was some crazy guy trying to jumping in a car on fire. >> absolutely.

i pulled up and two minutes after nick got there, about. and there was nothing that at that point that i was going to be able to do if that woman was still in the car she would have perished without a doubt. i couldn't actually tell what was burning there was so much fire. the gas tank let loose. nick came up and gave me a report. some of the key things he told me my spidey senses were tingling i'm thinking this guy is probably a firemen. we hooked up later on after the fire was out and he told me he was on the job in white plains lived in town. i said we are going to get to you join the firehouse here now amp what you have done. but, you know, his actions, you know, were a testament to him, the white plains fire department trained him in the fire service in general. there are people like nick all over the country living in your neighborhoods, that are firefighters, and they will do things like that. >> steve: absolutely. so, nick, i don't know the answer to this, you work in white plains, new york.

you live closer to where the chief is in connecticut, right? >> yes. i lived up here in brooklyn for about four years now. >> steve: you know, it would be much easier if you worked closer to home. chief, do you have an official announcement? >> yeah. he will be joining the firehouse in january he will be a brookfield firefighter on his days off from nick plains. >> steve: amazing. how do you feel about that. >> it's a great feeling. if i'm living here and i can put my training and my expertise to give back to the community where i live, you know, that's exactly -- i'm a paid firemen in white plains, fork, i was born and raised there. and something i always was driven to do, and, you know, it's been a good run so far. be up here and anyone will tell you if you are into the job, you are into the job. >> steve: you know, the word hero is used a lot.
