organ high school football officials by night. both steve edison and gina are referees in portland and officiate their first state championship game on friday and join us live good morning to both of you. >> good morning. >> steve: steve would start with you you have one regret and that's that you didn't become a referee sooner. >> absolutely. i wish i had started right out of college. more experience i would have, the better. >> steve: explained to our audience when it is you love about putting on that uniform periods >> well, giving back to the kids. football was a big part of my life growing up, and to be able to be out there and be part of the competition and help create fair play for everybody, it is the greatest experience on a friday night. >> steve: absolutely. and gina, i know you have a very satisfying job in the sheriff's department, but then with this

game you made history didn't you? >> steve: i did. i was the first female in oregon to work a 68 state chief each football game. >> steve: and you told one of our producer sometimes you have to prove yourself a little more because generally women don't play football. >> that is true. that is a general statement, i've been lucky enough to play on football teams in my tenure as a player. it wasn't until i was in an adult, it was quite different getting into it as a younger female. but we are still looked at in a little bit of a different way. we are questioned because of our gender before they even question whether we know anything. >> steve: you must have a good experience because look your back on the field. >> absolutely parent i love the association i work for. all of the guys i partner with are very supportive my family is very supportive. i love football and i wouldn't change it for the world periods

>> steve: and steve, do the players know you are law enforcement? >> no. there's really not a lot of interest in the officials out there. hopefully we remain kind of silent part of the game. we just keep the game fair. >> steve: if the kids knew these two were law enforcement you know they are going to say that's a bad call roughing the kicker or whatever because that it's your job. you are pretty much in law enforcement monday-friday and on the weekends when you do this, once again just the laws of the game, right? >> evelyn bit of training to keep people in line. that helps i'm sure. >> steve: gina, tell us why you love this particular part of your life. >> i grew up playing sports in general, i was never allowed to play football when i was younger, so having the opportunity to play football, have the camaraderie that i have
