keep operating here in the u.s. gillian turner has more on that in d.c. what's the latest? >> good morning. what house republicans are accusing tiktok lying about is the surveillance of american. it's a hefty charge. could eventually carry legal consequences. new letters sent by two congressional committees tiktok told the panel the following. tiktok does not track user's internet data while not using the app and two, china-based employees do not have access to u.s. users' locations data. both claims are misleading at best and at worst false. senate republicans agree. >> tiktok is one of the most massive surveillance programs ever especially on america's young people and why i've encouraged every american if they are using tiktok to delete it from their phone and if they can to get a new phone all together. >> the parent company is called bytedance, a chinese company

back to you. >> dana: for more on this let's bring in jessica tarlov co-host of the five and jason chaffetz. is it dawning on the democrats and the white house this is a private company we're talking about in twitter. what will they keep an eye on? is there some harm to the world that's happening because elon musk took over? >> we were talking about this yesterday. i don't understand that outrage over it necessarily and the complete freak-out. i have to go to mastodon and post. if you want to be on twitter be on twitter. that's what it is now. elon musk owns it. if you don't want to hang around with those people you're free to go. i think the misinformation question is important here and what he is going to allow. it served a great purpose when covid first struck in early 2020. the trump administration worked with twitter to make sure that information was and then worked with the biden administration.

how he handles that. at the end of the day it's just a social media platform. >> bill: just last hour the treasury secretary janet yellen said there are legitimate national security concerns regarding tiktok. what do they do about it? what action do they take? >> they should have shut this down a long time ago. when you have people on the intelligence committee on both sides of the aisle telling you this is a spy tool for china, shut it down. they should have done that a long time ago. >> bill: trump was right. >> trump was right. you have senator warner who is pretty responsible saying he is right. we can come together on this. they are looking at the intelligence community knows this is a spy tool for china. >> bill: trump was right. >> trump was right about this. >> oh my god. >> bill: got it, good. >> dana: i think about this. gillian turner was saying there is a december 16th deadline. within the biden administration itself there is a debate happening and disagreement because you have the business

side of people saying we really have to have some sort of trade relationship with china and then you have the national security folks saying however this is a spy tool and you have almost every teenage girl in america on this app for hours of the day. america could shut it down? how about will the biden administration come out? >> if we have an enormous data preach as a result of this. i belief they were misleading committee and china will have our data for the rest of time and access it whenever they feel like it. the biden administration has to be on the side of that. they can at least say we did act to shut this down. everything that goes on in china is run through the ccp. this idea that any company is independent. the same way it works in russia. our congress people and senators are right on this. when they talk about tech issues i think they're off base and they don't have -- on this i

twice about coming to the aid of taiwan if china decides to invade. >> dana: the former national security council director for china last hour giving us the big picture on beijing's strategy after a new pentagon report warned it is accelerating an expansion of its nuclear arsenal. rich edson in washington with the details. >> china has more than 400 war heads and could have 1500 by 2035 according to a report the pentagon just released. it also says last year china launched about 135 ballistic missiles for testing and training. officials say it was more than the rest of the world combined. >> the more proliferation there is, the more concerning it is, the more destrap liesing to the region it is. certainly we would want to insure from a regional, global and stability standpoint that we can maintain an open dialogue.

>> pentagon report says of china's military says the army continues to make progress implementing major structural reforms fielding and building readiness and strengthening competency with joint operations. it says the u.s. should reflect on its own nuclear arsenal and the report highlights china's increased pressure on taiwan, the island off its eastern coast that beijing is trying take take over. china stepped off missile launches there after nancy pelosi's visit in august. officials say that pressure has remained elevated to what they call a new normal in its campaign against taiwan. u.s. officials have said china is trying to establish the capability to invade and occupy taiwan by 2027. officials say they do not believe that beijing is

world cup live in qatar. we were watching it at a bar across the street yesterday. the place was going nuts. i said this team has something special. they are young and they are hungry and they like each other. how do you see that? >> look, this is a team you can fall in love with quickly. as you mentioned very young team. they got wonderful heart and wonderful spirit and a youthful swagger that translates when you see them run around the field. an incredible personality off the field. talking to players like tyler adams. the way he handled the press conference before the game with iran and the questions he was getting about politics and international affairs is just a credit to who he is. this entire team. they are all different in their own way but come together like any good team. heartening to see what happened yesterday and what's happening with this team back home. my son was texting me. he was at school. a lot of the kids were at school

watching this game. shout-out to all the teachers out there that allowed their classes and students to watch this game. it is a wonderful thing that is bringing us together not just to celebrate american soccer but celebrate america the greatest country in the world. a pleasure to be in doha at our set here. >> dana: how significant that they made it through to the next round? >> we have qualified for men's world cups in the past. our women's team is a champion and always at the top. men's team is trying to get there. we qualified for world cups in the past and gotten out of the group in the past. that is not anything new but with this young generation that we have, we have high hopes. keep in mind after this world cup in 2026 we'll be hosting the world cup bringing it back again. last time we did that from a men's perspective was back in the 1900s when i had more hair in 1994 and we'll blow it out.

it bodes well for the future on the field with this generation. that much more experience come back to 2026. >> bill: we can show the hair back then. you stood out. some of these players, they are young, you said that a lot of times. youthful. but they are also stars on their own teams in europe. i don't think the casual soccer fan is aware of that and how good they are playing to their respective teams. do they have more talent now than we have seen in years past? >> i think they have more opportunity and resources. as an old guy it warms my heart to see the pathways that have arisen for these players. i had to star in a world cup in order to get opportunities in europe. now we have players that sometimes don't even play a season professionally that are being mined by some of the biggest clubs around the world. you mentioned christian playing at chelsea in england.

tyler adams playing in england. weston mckinney playing in italy. they are playing in some really big clubs because the reality is that people recognize there is quality when it comes to soccer in the united states. look, i know that soccer is not king in the u.s. every year it gets a little bit better. we don't have to apologize for what we are or aren't as a soccer playing nation. we're passionate and discerning and we have a wonderful history that we can draw upon but we also have an incredible future on and off the field. we're a country of soccer whether we realize it or not. it will get bigger and bigger as we go on with the players that we're talking about and the fans out there. there was a young boy or girl that watched that game yesterday and saw christian score the goal that ultimately may end up representing the country. we have to figure out how to win with the men like we do with the

>> dana: more than two dozen reported tornadoes in the south overnight in mississippi and alabama. two in louisiana. power outages and flash flooding major concerns this morning as people wake up and survey the damage. one bridge in mississippi was completely washed out. so those commuters will have a difficulty getting to work or school today. the storms are now moving east

with threats of damaging wind gusts and possibly a couple of tornadoes. stay tuned to fox weather to find out more. >> bill: it's out there. this is out there, too. dating app predator now behind bars thanks to a sharp-eyed police officer. timothy olson was taken into custody of wisconsin linked to the death of one woman and other women he was with passed and suspect in identity theft and burglaries. mike tobin. >> police in wisconsin have this man in custody accused of preying on vulnerable women after drugging them. there is a case where he is accused of kidnapping a woman at gun point. one woman is dead and police fear there may be more victims. he was arrested yesterday after being spotted in franklin, wisconsin. officers pursued him, a struggle. he was tased by police. olson is linked to a number of case where women were contacted

through a dating app. when they met up the woman would fall unconscious and victimized as identity and money was stolen. he is linked to one woman who police say on november 17th fell unconscious in olson's presence. she was rushed to a hospital and died five days later. there is also a case from november 23rd when police say olson offered a woman and drink, refused and he followed her to the parking lot and forced her into a car at gun point and held for a number of hours, driven to an atm and made to give him money. >> he is wanted by several jurisdictions for several incidents previously reported on. in addition, olson is a suspect in a kidnapping and identity theft that occurred in franklin on a 79-year-old woman on november 23rd. in addition at the scene we determined that olson is

involved in at least two borg lair east in the cities that occurred prior to his arrest. >> as for as the potential of other victims police think they may be too embarrassed to come forward. >> bill: more to come. thank you in chicago. >> dana: criminal defense attorney jonna spilbor. are there more charges that could come to bear on this man? >> yeah, absolutely, dana. i think who police want at this point is to make a solid connection between this guy and the death of his most recent date a couple of weeks ago. so our viewers know, apparently this creep was on a date with a woman who passed out in the middle of the date and later died. they want to know whether he had anything to do with the debt. an otherwise healthy 55-year-old woman shouldn't die while sitting on a bar on a date. they have him on other charges. police will need to connect those charges either using some

toxicology, perhaps using some other forensic evidence to really get a handle on what they can and cannot make stick as charges for this guy. >> dana: the police chief said it is possible that some of the potential victims are going to be too embarrassed to come forward. how important is it that they do so their testimony can be brought to bear? >> that's really interesting because if all they have are victim testimonies, it is going to be difficult for prosecutors because as we all know, you can't just bring in bad character evidence to prove somebody acted in conformity. there will have to be more than that. so hopefully there will be some forensics and recordings, some texts. if they can get a warrant, dana, that's what i would like to see. get a warrant for his house, car, whatever and see if he has a stockpile of date rape drugs or a stockpile of fentanyl or

something causing these women to pass out while they are on an unfortunate date with him. >> dana: there was a study showing that 14% of attacks occurred after meeting on the app. a warning from a doctor. those with mental illness like depression may be more susce susceptible -- in a dating app people can shape themselves however they want to appeal to vulnerable victims. any message for women who might be on these apps? >> please, please, please trust your gut. nobody is going to protect you better than yourself. if you get a bad feeling between the appetizer and main course and you want to sneak out, do it. don't feel bad hurting somebody's feelings. i would rather be wrong and alive than right and dead. that's a message to every woman out there. please trust your gut. >> dana: great to have you. thanks for being on this story

>> bill: millions of americans feeling the pinch of high inflation may get a bit of relief. 20 states offering one-time tax credits or rebates to help taxpayers stay ahead of rising costs. both republican and democratic governors looking to spend money from covid relief funds to cover that. some states have delivered payments. others will pay out next year. >> dana: parents are taking the school board to court. guidelines have been designed to cut parental involvement out of

decisions in their children's lives. we have the details. >> these parents in montgomery county, maryland are fighting the school systems transgender policies that says information about a students' transgender status may constituent confidential medical information. disclosing this information to other students, their parents, guardians or third parties may violate privacy laws. some parents are furious arguing the school system's policy is designed to work around parental involvement and what they see a pivotal decision in the lives of their children and enables school personnel to allow students to transition to a different identity at school. from the complaint the plaintiff parents object to the guidelines because they argue they inappropriately instruct schools to withhold information from parents regarding their children's gender identity as expressed at school. the judge is a u.s. district judge in maryland and maintains

the school district's policies doesn't violate parents' right. now a transgender psychologist joined the fight saying the policy will rip families apart. >> all children need their parents. parents are in my experience well meaning. they love their children. we don't want to shut them out and deprive them of the opportunity in this area to love their children in the way that's best for them anymore than we want to shut parents out of the lives of their children in terms of school participation and school performance. >> dr. anderson argues one of the most important factors in helping gender questioning children is family support. dana. >> dana: mike emanuel on the story. >> bill: mike pompeo is going after the head of the teachers union. he writes i challenge randi weingarten, the most dangerous person in the u.s., to beat me.

i think he took it a step farther, too. martha maccallum is here to talk about this. hello to you. i think it was who is the most -- i get asked who is the most dangerous person in the world? the most dangerous person in the world is randi weingarten? >> dana: it's a big charge but i understand where he is coming from. he is talking about the decline of american education and our inability to educate our children. we have lost this sort of wrapping our arms around the idea we want to be competitive and give them an edge and we want to win, right? so this idea of teaching our children and allowing them to win and be competitive in the world has been so dramatically undercut by the learning loss that happened from covid and now a new study that shows more clearly the documentation of how much income these children are likely to lose. it goes back to will they drop out of school in eighth grade? will they drop out of school in high school because they are

struggling to keep up? that leads to the inability to buy a car, to buy a home, to maybe get married, teen motherhood, all these issues that are so complicated. what we have heard from randi weingarten is excuses about what happened. what about solutions to fix it now? this is what i keep coming back to. where is the emergency hair on fire moment? we have an entire department of education which some people argued should be eliminated in the country. i don't know what their purpose could be if it is not to wrap their arms around this in an emergency crisis fashion and say we'll get our kids caught up in the next 18 to 24 months and focus on learning. we aren't going to focus on indoctrination or talk about other stuff. that is a luxury to touch on with children when they don't know how to read and write. >> dana: a lot of covid money that was not spent. i was in preparation for reagan defense forum talking about military readyness. one of the reasons mike pompeo from a national security

standpoint saying this is a problem is talking about recruitment for the people who can be in our military, work in our military and have a career there or maybe just have 4 or 5 years there. that is not even possible if k-12 education isn't good enough and you have a possible 3 or 4 years of losses. you will have a big gap there. >> it is right. the other thing is we have to stop thinking that it's only covid. this was happening long before covid, right? we were already down at number 14, 18 in reading and math and science in the country before covid even happened. i also call on the first lady, an educator. dr. jill biden we were told to refer to her as because she is so committed to education she got a doctorate in it. this would be a perfect thing for her to say i'll fix the learning loss in the next two years and if reelected if they have decide that's what they want to do i want to make sure

our children are in the top five over the course globally. >> bill: you mentioned this. federalist headline number two. covid learning loss could cost american kids $9 hundred billion in lost income. back out to martha. what you are arguing is performance and what pompeo is arguing. 70 countries, american students rank 35th in math. he argues all of this is on weingarten's watch. >> it did happen during her watch. the sense of urgency has absolutely not been there. you know, one of the problems is i dare to say that even the teachers, younger teachers, are the victims themselves of an education system in this country that has sold them short, right? so now you have people who are in their 20s and 30s who are part of this system that has failed us over the prior decades i would argue.

so we need better teacher training, we need teachers to be paid an merit and give them incentive for people who might choose other careers to choose teaching. the teach for america program to be ramped up to solve the problem. a lot of smart college kids out there spend a summer, a year post college working in this program to catch american students up. it is a dire need. it must be addressed and mike pompeo is 100% right on that. >> dana: governor doug ducey. he is saying all the ymcas will be focused on this for two years. in arizona you might be able to take advantage if you're a parent there. >> see you later. >> dana: mega donor soros putting his fingers on the scale of justice and how his pockets are putting soft on crime district attorneys in office. >> we have a major problem in this country with rogue prosecutors who get into office usually funded by people like
