behind the scenes at twitter. >> ainsley: why they decided to censor it. >> steve: the person who used to be the head of trust and city at twitter is one of the actually people who did the deciding, key to deciding whether or not that story should be kept from the public. he sat down with kara swisher. and during a podcast. and the video is going to be released tomorrow. he essentially admitted, yeah, we blew it. we should not have cracked down. he said we didn't know what to believe. we didn't know what was true. >> brian: come on. >> steve: there was smoke and ultimately for me it didn't reach a place. he is deflecting right here. where i was comfortable removing this content from twitter it. it set off one of my finely tuned apt 28 hack and leak campaign alarm bells. what that means is that's alternative name for the russian cybercrime fancy bear. so, in other words, it looked to him like it was russian disinformation. even though it was not.
3:06 am
>> ainsley: he said despite concerns of authenticity, he didn't want to remove the story. the decision to censor the story on twitter was not up to him. he did plan to meet with the now defunct dhs disinformation governance board. remember, headed by mary poppins? both ross and facebook ceo said they were approached by the fbi before the 2020 election, warning the platforms and foreign propaganda and misinformation. also, we questioned the timing of this. remember when they censored it? right before the election. >> brian: this is pretty unbelievable. and some people are taking offense to white house press secretary saying we are looking into it. the president's concerned about elon musk. why concerned about someone taking over a social media device, an app., that has impact and it is a guy that really is apolitical because all over the spectrum. already done legitimate business with the government, with spex. why is everyone concerned?
3:07 am
because they are ripping the cover off. from what can i see right now there was election interference. the obvious reality is long-time users know is that twitter has failed in trust and safety for a very long time and has interfered in elections. twitter 2.0 will be far more effective, transparent and even-handed. why does that bother so many people. >> ainsley: that's the question why is everyone so scared of elon musk? this is a guy who voted for joe biden. now he is saying he would endorse ron desantis. is he not necessarily a democrat or a republican. he just votes the way he sees it. he seems to be more in the middle and seems to be fair. he just is for free speech. why is the white house so afraid of free speech? >> steve: it's not just the white house. it's everybody on the political left for the most part because it's their monopoly of thought is broken with elon musk. iis saying hey, twitter is takig our thumb off. we are just going to let people say what they mean, apparently some sort of content moderation, we don't know what that is going to be. that's why some people have
3:08 am
freaked out. nonetheless, a couple of days ago from the podium. karine jean-pierre said that the white house is going to keep an eye on twitter which is very orwellian. so, if they have got a problem with twitter, that had our white house correspondent yesterday ask a really good question about the white house and the relationship with twitter. >> when are you guys going to delete the white house twitter account? >> why would we do that? >> pete: you are saying you are keep an eye on twitter because it night not be a suitable platform so why use it. >> look, i want to be very clear here. the president has always said and he has been very, very clear in his belief that it is important social media platforms to continue to take steps to reduce hate speech and misinformation. and he will continue to say that but, media platforms make independent choices about their information that they present. and so, look, i don't have anything to share on any policy

was in leadership. i was elected the award winner. i worked on the disney cruise line. both barbie and i were will cast members who followed respect for those we worked with it was obviously a very confusing time for us. and when disney started going down this road into iger now being in charge, i have a friend i will put it this way, is rearranging chairs on the deck of the titanic. iger was still very much a lot of company which when decisions were made still executive chairman until december of last year. so he was very much a part of disney jumping into those culture wars to speak to the parental rights and education bill. i'm so glad you called it that. everybody called it the don't say gay bill. that word is not in it myself. i read the bill myself nine times, this again goes to show why the company would feel like it needs to get involved in all of this.
