>> ainsley: so we have an update on the story that we talked about yesterday. the congressman was on our show, talking about a constituent in his area in florida who called him, and it's a female. she got accepted to the naval academy. you know it is extremely difficult to get the nomination. you does your congressman has to nominate you, so this lady called him and says i am about to graduate, and i am not going to get my diploma because i'm one of the ones that set i would not get vaccinated. so he sent a letter to the naval academy and said this is not acceptable. you are taking away a qualified midshipman and, a waste of our country's investment, and it's going to hurt our military readiness at a time when we are having trouble with recruitment and retention. so these are the best of the best. just because they don't want to get vaccinated when they are young and healthy and ready to fight for our country, you are not going to give them their diploma. they sent him a letter back on

december 1st, a few days ago -- or yesterday -- filed for religious exemptions and not one of them was granted, but they are saying that they will get their diplomas. >> pete: hughes where the statement comes from the navy. "there have been no midshipman separated from the naval naval academy, nor for declining the covid-19 vaccination. they filed a religious exemption request. no date and no religious exemptions have been granted." >> brian: not going to get a degree or a commission. >> pete: they are not telling the truth here, but either way either way. >> brian: cannot be accurate. >> pete: you are effectively not allowed to go to school, but you are in this ultimate limbo land. same thing happens in the army and across our military. they have given out zero -- zero religious exemptions.

commonwealth of virginia, so we have never seen this much of a shortening stuff much, but we are fighting really hard to fight our way out of it. as fate would have it, we start our largest police academy class in a number of years with 40 recruit officers. that is a big jump for us. >> ainsley: is that because of the $15,000 signing bonus? >> we think that is a factor. we have a lot of large police departments in any area, so we are all in competition with each other. i say often if you are a qualified police applicant today and entering the profession for the right reasons, you are like an unrestricted free agent in the nfl. you really have your choice of where to go, so we are all in competition to be that employer of choice. >> ainsley: well, chief, we support law enforcement. when you talk to these officers, you say more are resigning then retiring, and when you do the

exit interview, why are they leaving? >> when we have less police officers, what it boils down to is less working patrol and less detectives working cases, so when you have less police officers working patrol and you still want to deliver the same quality of services, that means they have to work additional hours, and they have to work mandatory overtime. and you don't have the same number of detectives you used to have. that means your case let's go up, so today's young police officer, they value their work-life balance. they value their training, their education. they value their time off with their family, so we are working really hard to be that police department that has a lot to offer its police officers. we are all kind of in the same boat across the country. we are all trying to figure out what that silver bullet is. >> ainsley: well, when you give them the $15,000 signing bonus, can they leave tomorrow? or do they have to stay? >> we are a little bit worried

brand-new album, "hymns." >> pete: great to see you. we have been listening to you rehearse all morning long. is it hard to sing in the morning? >> tasha: it is. my voice wakes up at about noon. >> brian: right. so does pete's. that is the problem. >> ainsley: then you got married to this cutie. and your last name became leonard. how many children do you have? >> tasha: we have four amazing babies. >> brian: wow. >> tasha: and everything in between. >> ainsley: pastor's daughter in georgia. when did you start singing? >> tasha: my entire family sings. we were forced to sing. at about 15 years old, i sang my first solo in front of a crowd, and i realized there was something different. my parents were like oh, this is

different. so they have always supported my gift. >> brian: what is the mission of your music? >> tasha: the mission is to take the name of jesus to the world. >> ainsley: when you write songs, you want this message to carry on for generations. >> tasha: yes. absolutely. a lot of the lessons and the things that we know about the bible, bow church, we learned it through song. so i want this generation to listen to our songs to say, 20 years from now, man, i learned that from one of tasha's songs. >> brian: as a nonsinger, are you still getting better? or do you roll out of bed? which is working? how much is natural? >> tasha: you know what? it has to be exercised. you have a gift, and it is what you do with that that matters, so every day i am working.
