♪ >> that's orlando, florida. as we speak the airport is getting more crowded. everyone goes to disney for christmas. >> sail away. see you tomorrow. here now "america's newsroom." >> bill: good morning, guys, good morning orlando and at home. election today in georgia for the second time in a row the peach state is voting in a runoff with some very big consequences. it's tuesday, i'll bill hemmer. a couple weeks before the big day. >> dana: i'm dana perino and this is "america's newsroom." i thought of you this morning because you love election day and now you get one more day at the board. one more day at the board. the polls are open. people in georgia are voting. nearly 2 million people cast early ballots. down 40% from the last runoff. the senate broke its single day record for turn out three times
6:01 am
this last week. >> bill: the runoff was four weeks ago today after they fell short of the 50% threshold needed for victory. democrats have secured control of the senate but still a lot on the line. >> dana: if walker wins republicans would keep joint control of senate committees. however, a warnock victory would hand the reins to democrats and give them a 51st vote. >> bill: biden's strategy is steering clear of georgia entirely. this is where he has been in the last month. every where but georgia. north carolina, michigan, arizona. democrats do not want him in that state that has emerged as a critical battleground state. >> dana: walker and warnock making closing earringments in a marathon campaign season. look here. >> come rain, sun or shine we have to get out there and let them know we're sick and tired of this. >> this is about turnout.
6:02 am
and now that means we have to get in the game. we can't sit on the sidelines anymore. >> for your friends who say i'm tired, ask them imagine how tired you are going to be if you have to have herschel walker. he is unfit to represent the people of georgia in the united states senate. >> dana: peter doocy is live from the north lawn. no doubt the white house watching this very closely today, peter. >> dana, president biden won georgia in 2020 but now two years later officials here consider staying away from georgia everything they can do to help. >> the president will do anything that he can do for senator warnock to be helpful to him. as you have seen, the president's schedule recently he has done a high volume of fundraising, attended several political events including phone banks, unions and much more. >> so scrubbing through

transcripts of recent warnock campaign events this morning we realized he doesn't talk much if at all about president biden. this is about as close as we got yesterday. >> do you think you should have invited president biden to come visit? >> do you think biden should have come? >> thank you for your time. >> the election is tomorrow. >> republicans are the ones talking a lot more about president biden trying to channel frustration with the president into votes against the democrat. >> a vote for my opponent is a vote for joe biden and a vote for chuck schumer. >> so today election day the president plans to talk about his agenda specifically the effort to make more micro chips in the united states at a plant in arizona. he does not plan to visit the border in arizona. >> let's have a bipartisan agreement on immigration instead of doing political stunts. instead of doing what they are

doing. going to the border not actually coming up with any real ideas about that. that's where i will leave it. >> unless there is a last-minute change to the president's schedule that takes him 160 miles south, in this extended mid-term cycle he will have visited three border states without actually laying eyes on the border itself. >> dana: peter doocy, thank you so much. >> bill: this is either going to go to 51 or it will stay where it is and republicans have a shot today to go to 50, which would be the same place we were four weeks ago today going into the mid-terms. the georgia map here is where you can watch tonight. take it back a month ago. this was the difference between warnock and walker, 36,000. the governor's race the same day, same time, you had brian

kemp a winner over stacey abrams by almost 300,000 votes. walker has to drive that number up if he wants to win the senate race against warnock. where does he do it? a lot of red counties in the north. cherokee county, forsythe county and hall county to the east. you have to run up that number. conversely for warnock, a couple counties down here south of atlanta in fulton and henry county watching that to see if he can get the number higher. clayton county where he can be very strong in a race like this. the big one here, walker will do real well in the rural red counties. the metro area of atlanta and fulton county is the big one. 10% of the entire population in the state living in fulton county. we'll watch it tonight. mark penn is with us, former clinton pollster and fox news contributor. here we go again. it is about georgia. how do you see it today with the
6:06 am
polls open at this hour? >> well, this has been an incredible race. i think $4 hundred million has been spent in this race. i imagine every resident of georgia knows everything you can imagine. i think the strategy here has been essentially to make herschel walker the issue. keep biden out of it. keep national politics out of it. depict him as unfit. you have a trump-endorsed candidate running behind in mail-in ballots and it means the republicans need a really excellent turnout on election day here and pushed themselves into the corner once again in order to take this seat. that's their biggest problem. overcoming mail-in ballots. >> dana: a map of where president biden has gone recently. nowhere close to georgia. neither has president trump gone to georgia. so you have governor kemp there trying very hard to help bring herschel walker a win. but president obama went down
6:07 am
for warnock so you did have some heavy hitters there but the two possible candidates for 2024 steered clear. >> well, i think they are trying to actually not nationalize it, not make it about trump versus biden. we know even trump versus biden came out slightly for biden so at the end of the day it is going to be a close race but i do think that the democrats have had more money, they have a better organization on the mail-in ballots. it seems on the republican side only ron desantis has had a mail ballot organization that you really need to neutralize things. a vote that's a mail-in ballot is a vote 100%. a vote on election day is maybe my kid is sick, maybe it's a little rainy, right? .9 of a vote. you need so many more votes to rely on that strategy. it is time the republicans figure out if they lose it will be because of the failure to
6:08 am
neutralize mail-in ballots. if they win they'll have more momentum than i would have expected. >> bill: joe biden said he would go home with his family at thanksgiving and think about a second run or not. that decision kind of has been made perhaps, ron klain was asked this question. watch what he said. >> it's his intention to run. talk to his family and make the decision about that. i hear from a lot of democrats across the country they want him to run. i expect shortly after the holidays, but i expect the decision will be to do it. >> bill: there it is at the end. what do you make of that, mark? >> well, it is the chief of staff's job not to make news on this subject so if ron klain had answered in any other way he would have set off like 100 newspapers right there. so i paid no attention to whatever anyone says about whether they're running or not.
6:09 am
most candidates who became president said they weren't running before they ran. true of barack obama and bill clinton. i think the president needs to keep the fiction he is running as long as possible even if he is not running, he doesn't want to become a lame duck too early. i think, you know, he is a little less like le at the end of the day run. i think the hunter biden investigation is going to be a real investigation. and i think that his numbers are so weak that him having to be the candidate, as you say, he is not in georgia today. if you run a presidential race, he will have to be in georgia. and he won't be able to get away with that. his numbers are really weak and most democrats really don't have him as their number one pick for the nominee. i think he has to keep this game going maybe another six months. i don't believe at the end of the day he will be the democratic candidate. >> bill: low 40s in georgia. mark penn, great to see you. >> dana: thank you.

understand if mask wearing should be continually ought liesed. they found long term they don't do much good. mask wearing and social distances are effective at limiting the effect of respiratory disease but en dim i can diseases that we saw during the pandemic may not last if the measures were implemented long term. we took it to dr. marty makary and fox news contributor. he was not involved in this study but did help us break it down. >> the study shows that distancing and other interventions do help slow the spread but it is only partially effective against low transmission viruses like flu. when you get to the highly contagious viruses like rsv and covid it postpones the inevitable. so this is making a lot of people question if going into restrictions and sheltering with
6:20 am
masks has a down side that was not previously anticipated. >> he says the study did not account for how the immune system may be negatively impacting by constant mask marrying and mask mandates are looming in certain places as a way to fight off the treple-demic as it is called with flu, rsv, covid-19 hitting all at once. l.a. county is recommending indoor mask use. >> dana: something we learned in california last week. hopefully it won't be the case. thank you. >> secretary austin has been very clear that he opposes the repeal of the vaccine mandate and the president actually concurs with the secretary of defense. we continue to believe that all americans, including those in the armed forces, should be vaccinated and boosted for covid-19.
6:21 am
>> bill: national security council spokesman said the white house supports keeping the vaccine mandate. over the weekend they said repeal was under consideration. some lawmakers want it to end now. tom cotton, good morning to you. thank you for your time. i want you to know right now chad pergram is telling us in the house side the vaccine mandate will be stripped out of the house defense bill and we'll get more information about that later today. what is your reaction on all this, senator? >> well, bill, i have urged the department of defense to end this pointless vaccine mandate at a time when we have historically bad recruiting and retention numbers. if the department defense wants to do it congress needs to put an end to the vaccine mandate for the troops. the inside story here is what chuck schumer and nancy pelosi are doing to try to hold this defense bill hostage. we passed it every year for 60
6:22 am
years, vital for our national security and troops. they want to add on all kinds of non-defense measures like payoff for liberal media companies to form a cartel to work with big tech that will hurt center right media outlets. allowing marijuana distributors to be in the banking system or paying off joe manchin. none of these have anything to do with the troops. if the democrats insist on adding these extra measures to the defense bill republican senators should filibuster it and house republicans whose votes are necessary should not vote for it, either. until the democrats back down and pass a defense bill that is focused on our national security and supporting our troops. >> bill: we're told the bill will not reinstate service members dischargeed who had benefits slashed due to their refusal to take the vaccine. the debate will continue. i want to take you overseas in iran. we were told the morality police had been suspended for the time. that's not the case.

"new york post." no, iran didn't ban the morality police. it duped people. iranian women are still subject to the oppression. millions want to see an end to the islamic republic of iran and joe biden needs to pick a side. based on this tehran is not changing, sir. >> they're not. the ayatollahs would never end the morality police. an islamic revolution they are spreading around the world. what president biden should do is proudly and loudly support the brave iranians who are yearning for freedom and risking their lives to protest the dictatorship in that country and we should put an end to the farce of the negotiations with iran's nuclear program and reimpose the sanctions that would stop iran from getting the billions of dollars to spread terrorism or to provide the drones that russia is now using to attack innocent civilians in ukraine.
6:24 am
iran is an outlaw rogue regime. we can never trust it and we should do everything we can to support the brave iranians protesting it. >> bill: last topic later today president goes to arizona and he talked about the possibility of an immigration deal coming together between republicans and democrats. they need 12 republicans in the senate to go for it. do you see it happening during the lame duck session? >> no, absolutely not, bill. certainly not during the lame duck session. before we have any other kind of immigration reform we have to get control of the border. you hear about dreamers and we need to give them legal status. right now joe biden is creating hundreds of thousands more so-called dreamers every month. what we have to do is secure our border, prevent this historic flood of illegal aliens coming into our country before we address any other issues in our immigration system. >> bill: you don't know if he has a dozen votes on behalf of republicans, or no? >> no, he does not. we won't have it in the next
6:25 am
couple of weeks. if we have any immigration reform it will come next year with a republican house has to address the border and the needs of working class americans to get stable jobs with growing wages that outpace inflation. >> thank you for coming on today. appreciate your time. >> dana: detectives in moscow, idaho not sharing many details on the case that has gripped the nation. they now say they have cleared two men already though they have yet to name a suspect. plus the white house dismissing twitter ceo mucke's revelations on the hunter biden laptop story. they call it a distraction. >> we're talking about a scandal that makes watergate look like jaywalking. gentlemen had not copied all the things on the laptop i think the f.b.i. would have thrown this into the potomac.

are cleared in this case it is still ongoing. doesn't mean they might not go back to the people or theories. >> dana: thank you, we'll see you throughout the day. appreciate it. >> we see this as an interesting or coincidence, if i may, that he would so haphazardly push this distraction that is a full of old news, if you think about it. and at the same time twitter is facing very real and very serious questions about the rising volume of anger, hate, and anti-semitism on their platform and how they are letting it happen. >> bill: that's essentially the first reaction from the white house after the release over the weekend of elon musk's document dumps on the hunter biden laptop story. fox news contributor joe concha. she said more. let's play the second sound bite

6:46 am
in terms of volume to 18,000 people crossing per day. so one proposed solution or something that is being discussed is to take the overflow, migrants who pile up in eagle pass, texas, 90 miles away to uvalde, texas where they don't even have a bus depo and people will be dropped off at a gas station. you know the name uvalde because of the mass shooting at rob elementary. the mayor says the federal government, which should be securing the border, is dropping another problem at their doorstep. >> like i say, it's a matter of time before we have serious problems. we already have enough problems after the rob shooting and tragedy that we're trying to get over that and then you will add this to it? it is a recipe for disaster. >> a lot of the high-speed chases that start at the border go through or close to uvalde. when the runners bail out the mayor says schools need to go to lockdown. the mayor said the people in this little town have been

of doing political stunts. instead of doing what they are doing, going to the border not actually coming up with any real ideas about that. >> dana: i'm not even sure what the real ideas they're providing. we pay attention to this every day, mark. >> dana, thank you for having me. i guess i would begin with the basic premise we needless photo ops and more border stops from our president. a sad irony with everything going on. 5 million people have illegally entered the country since joe biden became president. the entire population of a state like alabama or south carolina. a record amount of fentanyl flooding into the country. enough this past here to kill every single american in this country. this is a crisis where we know the people on the terror watch list are apprehended. record amount of drugs are flowing in and my only surprise is joe biden won't go to the border because i think it's the only place in the world where
6:49 am
his numbers are above 40%. >> dana: you are the a.g., the lawyer there for the state. the border is not your responsibility. that is a federal responsibility. it is for him to decide how to control the border and if he wants to propose a lot of things that's great and maybe we can get there. a new bill they will try to push forward. as senator tom cotton told us securing the border is the key to getting all the other things you might want to do. >> absolutely. the federal government is at its apex of its power when it comes to national and border security. it is what washington, d.c. should be focused on. instead they're doing things like today joe biden is going to come out and do the photo op for a plant already being built in the process on the road to manufacturing chips and every time today we hear the word competing with china from joe biden's mouth i want everyone to think of the words crony capitalism. that's what the federal government is doing is basically
6:50 am
creating the federal government instead of protecting americans. joe biden has incentivized and decriminalized an activity, illegal border crossing and seeing the dramatic spike in every month now we're saying it's a new record, there is a new flood. all these communities along the border. texas communities, uma, arizona is spending money on healthcare and education and you have to worry about the chases with gotaways where 2,000 people a month are illegally entering our country. america is less safe because of joe biden and he needs to focus on doing his job. less photo ops, more border stops. >> dana: thank you for coming on attorney. i'm sure your state will be busy in the news. thank you. >> bill: a community left in the dark and it was done, we're told, with intent. after what law enforcement calls a targeted attack on a power grid. how those folks are coming
