triple, 18,000 illegal crossings every day. one proposal is to bus them to nearby towns like uvalde, texas. there is no bus station, people would just be dropped at a gas station. and you know the name uvalde from the mass shooting at robb elementary. the mayor says instead of securing the border, the federal government is handing this town one more problem. >> it's like a bomb. it's just a matter of time before we have serious problems and we have enough problems after the robb shooting and the tragedy, trying to get over that, and then add this to it? a recipe for disaster. >> a lot of the high speed chases end up in uvalde and the county, and the town does not need another problem, the schools get locked down. >> john: a bit of a disagreement

to let people come in. and it is imperative to protect the people of this country. when you talk to these parents that have lost their children to drugs, when you talk to law enforcement officers, you realize every town in this country is a border town. every state is a border state because of all the drugs, the trafficking, the gangs, the uptick in crime, and it is all related, sandra, and people are saying do something about this. when i'm talking to tennessee sheriffs and they are telling me what cities the cartels are operating in, and where the drugs are coming from, that they are apprehending on the streets, that is a signal to this administration, get your act together, get this border secured, work with the border patrol, stop working against them and against the safety of

has not happened, and there are growing calls for him to do so. >> john: i guess it depends on what your definition of visiting the border is. in a motorcade as you travel from el paso to las cruzes, new mexico, along a local road, you've been to the border but if it involves getting out of the vehicle, going to the border, seeing what it looks like, walking along the border, talking with the border patrol, talking with customs and border protection, that's also visiting the border. depends what your definition of the word is. >> sandra: you've got it. >> john: police are searching for a secretary in the quadruple murder of four idaho students, they have interviewed and cleared dozens of people. angela is going to join us later this hour with an analysis of the investigation but we first go to alexis mcadams, she's live in the town of moscow, and

alexis, you've had a chance to speak with the police chief. first sit-down interview of nearly a week. what are you expecting to learn today? >> yeah, john, we are going to sit down with him shortly here and hope to get new answers about this case. it's not a shock to investigators, some people, including the father of one of the victims want more answers but they are not sharing because they are making progress and don't want to put too much out to put the case in jeopardy. we have seen activity at the police department, people coming and going. investigators are talking to people, either clear them or connect them to the investigation. also going through different theories to clear, including one about kaylee goncalves having a stalker, investigators tell us they have interviewed two men in connection to a tip that she had a stalker, kaylee told friends a guy had followed her into a

local business and kind of weirded her out, she told them about it. police did question two men, one who was spotted following her, they say, but they do not believe this was stalking, it's an isolated incident and say the guys are not connected to the murders. now go on to the dog, a lot of people asking questions about kaylee's dog inside the house. police say that dog, you see in the tiktok video with the girl, was posted a short time ago but investigators tell us the dog was in the house at the time of the murders and was analyzed by detectives, it's important to point out, no evidence was found on the dog. they don't believe the dog was in the rooms where the crimes were committed. it's nearly a month since they were murdered, one neighbor's home backs up to the crime scene, saying police have been working hard, knocking on doors and making pretty good progress. listen. >> i have full faith in the chief and the police department and they have called in every resource there is to call in, they have a big team of experts and they are going to find the

person who did this. >> and we have seen people here from fraternities in town, specifically one of the fraternities, one of the victims was in, talking to investigators. police say it's just part of the process. they want to talk to everybody and anybody to piece the timeline together, to figure out where the students were in the hours leading up to the murder. they have a pretty good picture of exactly what happened, but still some time slots for more information. >> john: at least we are getting a little more information, we look forward to your interview later. sandra. >> sandra: andy biggs says he had challenge kevin mccarthy in january for the speaker's gavel, made that in an op-ed today. he and four other republicans said they would not support mccarthy in his bid to become speaker. john. >> john: sandra, healthcare systems overwhelmed all across

senator rafael warnock and republican herschel walker are trying to get more out to the polls. walker in marietta georgia, he shook hands and took pictures, and big assist from georgia governor brian kemp. take a listen. >> i voted for herschel walker, i want to encourage you to do the same. we have to have a big turnout to win this thing. >> a vote for my opponent is a vote for joe biden and a vote for chuck schumer, and he's showing you that a vote for me is a vote for georgia values. >> meantime, warnock kicked off a canvassing event this, knocking on doors, the warnock campaign is hoping a strong turnout and what they believed

to be a good showing in the nearly 2 million votes cast during early voting will be enough for the senator to win re-election. that said, this race is different than the last run-off when he beat the republican, georgia's new voting law cut the voting period by five weeks. 1.8 million early votes this year is nothing to sneeze at, overall, it is down by nearly 40% compared to the 3.1 million people who voted early in 2021. the so, let's just say the warnock campaign is cautiously optimistic. >> i worry that we will see this massive early voter turnout and some will decide that we don't need your voice and we do. there is still a path for herschel walker to win this race. >> for a week we have been talking to experts who said this is a game of attrition and turnout, and seems like both of these candidates got the

message. sandra. >> sandra: charles watson in atlanta following the big race on election day, thank you. i'm going to take you to the touch screen real quick before john brings in the congressman. we are taking a look, obviously, at georgia, and the big race we are waiting on here, and when you look at the early voter turnout, i mean, this tells a big part of the story that we are seeing right now. it's looking good for warnock when you look at the early voter turnout, just showing you the number that charles watson highlighted, nearly 1.9 million, 27% of registered voters, that's early in-person voting and mail-in ballots that have been returned. that is running below 2021 levels, but that is what we are seeing so far. when you go into where the candidates are going to be campaigning today, cobb county, as far as the results from the midterm elections, cobb county, walker will be on the ground today. he's trying to run up his

midterm election vote outcome, trying to shrink the margin there, that's where he's going to spend his day. that is the third-ranked population in the state. fulton county is number one, as far as where most of the votes will come from, home to atlanta, georgia. as far as population rate, dekalb county, run up the vote there, run the table. high margin of victory in the midterm election turnout there, and just north of dekalb, gwinett county, warnock is trying to run up the margin there, almost 60% then, if he turns out that vote this time around, that's looking good for him. that's what we are watching on election day, a couple key counties, obviously surrounding the atlanta area there, john. >> john: all about getting people out to the polls if they hope to counter the early voting on the democratic side. more americans could face increased scrutiny from the irs

after they lowered the payment reporting threshold on apps like venmo and paypal. bring in illinois congressman, also assistant whip for the democratic caucus, all your titles, we barely have time left to talk to you, welcome, good to have you with us. >> great to be with you. >> john: lay out what the changes are to the transaction reporting process for these apps like venmo and paypal. currently you have to have payments of $20,000 to fill out a 1099k. the new threshold will be $600. a number of transactions a year to trigger reporting used to be 200, now it's 1. president biden pledged he was going to go after high income earners and corporations to get more tax money. looks like he's going after middle and lower income earners here. >> yeah, i don't agree with that particular rule, so i've actually co-sponsored

legislation to radcally increase the threshold and today i'm asking leadership to include some delay of the rule or increase in the threshold on a bipartisan basis, as part of the year-end spending package, john. >> john: why don't you agree with this? >> i don't agree with it. a lot of people receive a 1099k for money which is really not taxable income. so say that you actually got a taylor swift ticket somehow, miraculously, and say you actually resold it because you could not attend a concert. well, most likely you did not have taxable income because the price at which you resold the ticket was probably lower than the price at which you purchased it. so you actually experienced a loss. and that happens repeatedly when people sell used stuff or preowned stuff. >> john: except when it comes to taylor swift tickets. i don't want to do a little reality check here on you, but if you have a taylor swift

ticket at face value, you could make a tidy profit on it if you were to resell it. republicans in the house, ways and means committee, sold a couch, resold tickets at the price you paid or extra work on the side you could trigger greater scrutiny from the internal revenue service. tax experts warn it will trigger a flood of 1099k forms, as many as 20 million, overwhelm irs agents. it was in the american rescue plan. how did it ever get passed? >> this particular piece of the rules needed to be adjusted and i think people like myself and others had sponsored legislation do so after the fact. routinely there is legislation that gets passed and then corrected and you know, succeeding years, a good example, the tax cuts and jobs act. a lot of my republican colleagues and i are still trying to fix the salt cap which is really messed up and raised

let's bring in our next guest. angela palermo, a reporter for the idaho statesman. i know it's heartbreaking and horrific for you and your friends and fellow students, you are just a year out from graduating college at this university. how is everybody doing on the ground there, angela? >> hi, thanks for having me. i think people are really scared, especially, you know, even the broader community, it's hard to go about daily life, not knowing who did this or why. and the police have not named any suspects yet, so i think students are a bit scared. >> i'm sorry, i'm just digging through, seems to be some new reporting that's coming in just as we are having this conversation now, that the police are zeroing in on movements of the murdered student couple who attended the frat house hours before they and their two roommates were stabbed

to death in their beds. this is just in, it's apparently a new statement via the police there in moscow, idaho, saying that they are seeking more information on the movement of these two victims, ethan and xana, can i get your reaction as we are learning more about this in this police statement? >> sure, we know that ethan and xana were at a party at a fraternity on campus, sigma ki, we know they were there from around 8:00 p.m. to around 1:00 a.m. the day of the homicides, but i can't comment at all on the information that was just released. >> okay, we will dig for more information on that as we all know, the information coming from the police has been slow through this process, and many

who know the investigative process say that is entirely ok with them, bill daly believes they are making progress and that they will eventually find this suspect. angela, can i ask you about what you are hearing as far as your reporting on the ground there, anything that you can share with us that you are hearing from local authorities on the ground? >> i know that local authorities say they are confident they are going to solve this case and find the person or persons who did this. so far they have not narrowed it down to whether it was one person or more than one person who committed these crimes. but they are confident that they will solve the case, so that's what we are hearing, you know, they have been getting a lot of tips, a lot of information coming in from the community about what might have happened that night and people that might be connected so they are following up on every lead that they have. >> sandra: i just want to play this out, since you obviously were a student and there are so many students affected by this. you graduated just a year ago.

sort of what we are hearing from some of the other students on and around campus, angela, listen. >> makes me very nervous. very nervous. i'm just hoping that they have someone in mind. >> definitely confusing and we are kind of hoping that we get some answers soon. >> the public doesn't get to be informed like this, and at this time we feel like we really should. >> sandra: a brutal time for all of those students and now the university of idaho, through the executive director of communications is reporting that it's estimated about 25 to 40% of students have not returned to campus, angela. >> yes, and this week is dead week, the week before finals so a lot of students did go home for the thanksgiving break and did not come back. i think a lot of parents did not want to send their students back, so much uncertainty, and
