8:01 am
last night. a 30-tweet thread released by a journalist. it begins with this revelation. teams of twitter employees built black lists, prevent disfavored tweets from trending and actively limit the visibility of entire accounts or trending topics all in secret without informing users. those secret black lists kept conservative accounts from getting too much attention. and spreading too many facts if those facts were disfavored. we need to see the raw data now. i really want to see who is on that list. so far here is what we know. a stanford professor who opposed covid lockdowns. fox's own dan bongino. charlie kirk, and an account called the libs of tiktok. the white house will face questions at the press briefings
8:02 am
today. based on what we saw, press secretary karine jean-pierre won't be happy about it. >> you said a few times that you really can't talk about communications between the biden campaign and twitter. who is telling you that that's off limits? >> i've already had that conversation with you, with your colleague i believe yesterday. i have already addressed this multiple times this week. i don't have anything more to add. i am going to -- >> harris: i think it was before she walked out at one point. the top republican in the u.s. house leader kevin mccarthy is in "focus." we'll begin with fox news correspondent griff jenkins in washington, d.c. griff. >> there is a lot in those 30 tweets in the second drop is raising questions whether twitter executives lied when they claimed under oath before congress that the didn't engage in shadow banning in the lead-up to the 2020 election which we
8:03 am
now know those execs called visibility filtering. the reporter revealed this. twitter denied it does things in 2018. the head of legal policy and trust and the head of products said, quote, we do not shadow ban. they added and we certainly don't shadow ban based on political viewpoints or ideology. remember this? >> are you censoring people? >> no. >> twitter shadow banning prominent republicans, bad. is that true? >> no. >> turns out that may not be true. conservatives were the targets, harris. the reporter wrote this as well. take for example a stan oared professor saying covid lockdowns would harm children. he was put on a black list that prevented his tweets from trending. then she said consider the popular talk show host dan
8:04 am
bongino who was slapped with a search black list. she revealed it was a brain trust that included the ceos. the doctor add this reaction this morning. >> it's frustrating to know that the world could have been so different if we just had been allowed to speak freely and not been censored. think about all of the people that are harmed by these lockdowns and what happened. everyone got covid anyway. what was accomplished? >> we aren't done yet. she said her colleague matt taibbi will have the next drop of the twitter files. >> harris: thank you very much. house minority leader kevin mccarthy of california and speaker designate in "focus" now. good to see you. let's talk a little bit about getting some answers with all of this because if this was really

crushing free speech as we now know to the point where the old twitter at least was breaking the law, it would seem, are those people still there? has anybody seen the raw data? what will you do to drill down? >> i can't wait until january 3rd. once we take office and power we have the ability for oversight. we have the ability for subpoenas. there are so many questions that get raised by this. first is what we feared but almost more than what we feared. why do these companies still have section 230 liability protection? they lied to congress when they came before us but it raises a different questions as well. they got involved in campaigns by doing this. the government used them to take away people's free speech. they went after individuals based upon their political beliefs. but now why don't we know what happened at facebook? what happened at google? it wasn't just about twitter
8:06 am
going forward. we need to know those companies. what about going further? do you remember the letter with more than 50 of the intel community of clapper and brennan telling us all that hunter biden was a lie and hoax? how many people were involved and who knew it? was it directed by a campaign, the biden campaign? did he know what was happening inside twitter? they had direct ability to speak to one another. that they would tell and were they identifying the conservatives that should no longer have free speech. to go after a doctor at stanford. to go after the doctor because he wanted to give his opinion. one of the highest levels of an education system to provide his knowledge to the country but it was different than what they believed. they wanted control over us. when you watch this government wanted control so much that they used companies to do it and these companies shielded themselves under section 230. january 3rd cannot come fast
8:07 am
enough that we free this country from this and they we can truly have free speech. >> harris: as we've seen the democrats do many times, i would imagine republicans will use their subpoena power to get to the bottom of things that really matter to the american public like freedom of speech. and i'm wondering because i had asked when you look at the list, the snuffing out of the truth, discrimination targeting and retaliation, the things you mentioned as well. is any of it something that you and congress look at as something that needs to be adjudicated? somebody broke the law? >> we can't prosecute ourselves but bring to light and change policy and we can change law and section 230. we can also bring people before the committee to get to the bottom of all this. think for a moment come january 3rd moving forward. it's when subpoenas can move out and when jim jordan as chairman of judiciary who has the ability
8:08 am
to write legislation. jamie comer. kathy mcmorris rodgers. these were saying they were not doing this when we saw it and knew it was happening. now we're finding greater information that biden's campaign was involved. we're now finding who were the attorneys involved going after individuals. not just for their political beliefs but what they believed when it came to science. if you don't agree with them, they will shut you out. >> harris: 100%. quickly according to the media research center broadcast networks ignored the first release of the twitter files on tuesday of this week and the number of minutes spent on the topic during their flagship morning and evening broadcasts as of yesterday afternoon, exactly 0. now you have a furthering of complicity of those in the media working together with those in social media and it all just
8:09 am
melds together. look forward to what's coming? >> why did the white house have such a problem thank you had an individual elon musk with his own money buying twitter. why did they find it so concerning? because this information would come forward? why does the media spend so much time attacking elon musk because he doesn't belong to either party. he is trying to earn trust as they build back. why are the other tech companies being so silent? why is the intel members on that letter, more than 50, clapper and brennan, why are they allowed to have any information in the future? why isn't the media companies who shut down the biden story, were they involved with this? why are they staying silent on this? >> harris: that part that you mentioned facebook and the rest, who was their equivalent team there and there is so much to

get to. let's get to this. congressman, your bid for speaker of the house is drawing some added attention now with five members of your own conference saying they will not support you. seven additional representatives say their vote hangs on several demand. we have a partial list of their demands. they want a rule that allows for easy removal of the speaker. legislation to be focused on a single topic with text publicly available at least 72 hours before any vote. and oversight panel to investigate the biden administration. add this to the mix as well. your colleague andy biggs of arizona has not backed down on his bid for the gavel. let's watch and i'll come straight to you. >> we need to make a change in trajectory and change of path and process and procedure and policy. all those are not going to happen with the current leadership, leader at the top. i think it's important if you want to correct something and you don't talk about it, you
8:11 am
will never correct it. at the bare minimum it's my run for the speakership is actually bringing this out. >> harris: what is your reaction to all of this? >> one thing i will say. i've been leader for four years. we have only gained seats in the elections. our goal was to stop the biden agenda, win the majority and fire nancy pelosi. which achieved all those. when you look at the republicans in the senate, governors and others lost during the cycles. we're the only branch that can stop what has been going on for so long. so i think this is healthy that we have these discussions right now. we had our primary and a debate inside our conference. andy biggs and i ran winning more than 85% of the vote. what we don't want to happen is we can't open on january 3rd to see what is happening at twitter, facebook and others. we can't have the investigations or secure our border or repeal 87,000 i.r.s. agents. that's what will happen if we continue this problem.
8:12 am
i think it's healthy we sit down and talk about it and i think we can find consensus together. the american people entrusted us with the majority and they want us to govern, not make concessions with democrats or somebody else. they want to see us lead strongly and that's exactly what i'll do. >> harris: you see ronna mcdaniel is asking for republicans to come together and others are certainly very focal in supporting a situation where you would lead, go forward, everybody come together because you have so much to do. also on the list what happened in afghanistan. there is just so much to get to. so good to see you today. i'm glad you were in "focus." thank you very much. >> thank you. >> harris: immigration and customs enforcement calls it a data miscalculation. the agency is now saying it's sorry for underrepresenting or underreporting the number of illegal immigrants released into the united states by tens of thousands. was it a wrong line item? plus widespread relief over

ago after spending 294 days in prison inside russia on a drug conviction. there is a lot of heated debate going on now in this country over the prisoner swap that freed here. the biden administration surrendered russia's merchant of death, viktor bout. he has fueled some of the most bloody conflicts on the planet selling his former soviet union weapons. paul whelan, mark fogel and others, school teachers, are still held in russian custody. former c.i.a. director david petraeus on the deal. >> you hate in a sense to reward what russia does but on the other hand, i think it's an understandable imperative to get our citizens home and sometimes that requires us to take actions that we would rather not take because again the individual

russian prison. >> they never said to us we want bout back. they are treating paul differently. paul was never in the mix in their mind with respect to mr. bout. it was just for brittney. the president had a tough decision to make. >> bout was known for his ability to circumvent arms embargoes and supply weapons to groups around the world and ties to russian intelligence and for years the russian government tried to secure his release. some congressional republicans say the deal was a mistake. >> we should have never traded viktor bout. i just want to stress how dangerous he is. this is not someone who is selling firearms to street gangs in moscow. we talk about anti-aircraft systems, tanks, artillery, missiles and rockets that fueled thousands and thousands of deaths, rapes, amputations, torture, dismemberment. >> democrats countered that presidents from both parties

have authorized difficult trade for hostages. in 2020 a russian court convicted whelan for spying. his family says the u.s. government needs be more assertive. the united states should be prepared to take more law breaking, kremlin-connected russians to be prepared for situations like this. back to you, harris. >> harris: thank you very much. relief that american brittney griner is home safe. that deal, though, you are seeing getting blistering criticism. steve hilton host of the next revolution. what are your thoughts about where we sit with this? >> first of all, harris, of course it's great that any american is back. any american regardless of their politics, regardless of their identity, which we've been hearing a lot about from the left. they are all americans and want them all home. all, including paul whelan. you look at the deal and think why didn't they push for a better deal? it brings us to the next question which is whether or not john kirby, karine jean-pierre, all of those people making their point it was either 1 or 0, that there was no deal that could have involved paul whelan. were they lying? nbc news report yesterday said there was a choice. the white house did make a choice. that report was sourced to the white house. so who is telling the truth
8:24 am
here? are they lying in response to the blowback? the other point we have to note is the irony of all this when you have the biden administration sending billions and billions of dollars worth of weapons to ukraine in their fully justified fight against the russian invasion, which i support. but at the same time now it looks like we're sending effectively weapons to russia in the form of one of the world's most notorious arms dealer. what do you think he will do in relation to the war? the whole thing is a mess. >> harris: you hit the nail on the head for me. that's how i opened this hour. i don't really understand how anybody could underestimate his role after 1991 after all those weapons were left in 14 countries as the soviet union disbanded, he went around and collected those and selling them even to the taliban. those weapons likely have been used against us. it is unfathomable what putin
8:25 am
wouldn't do to reinstall him. i don't believe he wouldn't reinstall him. >> yes. exactly. he is an incredibly valuable asset for putin particularly when russia is in a war it's losing. and to say that you can't strike a better deal than they did just seems to be ludicrous. >> harris: let's get to this. fox has obtained more dramatic video highlighting the magnitude of the border crisis. a mob of more than 700 people have crossed into texas near eagle pass. even hardened border agents were stunned by that number. this comes as immigration and customs enforcement is apologizing saying they are so sorry for grossly reporting the number of immigrants released into the united states without any tracking devices. the daily caller reports the agency's website counted 266

untracked illegals. but had a recent private event, ice officials reportedly told attendees the number is 50,000. 18,000% difference. ice issued a public statement. it became clear there was a data miscalculation. teams worked quickly to reconcile the issue. how do you reconcile the issue when you don't know where those people are, thousands of them, and you lied? >> it's not a data miscalculation. it is a policy miscalculation. >> harris: not a calculated miscalculation. >> another example of their total dishonesty. this is the consequence of their policy and they're trying to cover it up. everyone can see now and we on this channel have led the way in reporting it, that the border is open. they lie about it and they say
8:27 am
it is secure. one small example. a terrifying one. this is the headline in the "los angeles times" here in california. narcan could be required at california schools after youth fentanyl overdoses. in the "l. a. times" today. narcan in schools. first of all it is not youth fentanyl overdoses, it is poisonings because of what is coming through the border. this is where the open borders madness and extremism has landed us. narcan in our schools. it is a complete disgrace. >> harris: look, if anybody wants to take issue what we're calling out is not true -- i called it a flat out lie, why would you say 266 publicly but to your friends in a room as an ice official say 50,000? that's not even a good way to lie. that's ineffective. your last thought and we'll move

to the next. >> exactly. because there is no real defense here. it is such a total shambles. there is nothing they can point to that actually backs up anything they are saying or justifies this extremist policy. they end up in these humiliating lies and cover-ups. >> harris: we get caught in the middle because we have to deal with the repercussions of their bad decisions and see them take advantage of us by not being honest. gop plan now. dozens of republicans in texas have introduced their plan for securing the border including congressman dan crenshaw and congressman chip roy. it includes finishing building the border wall, fixing policies that allow the release of illegals into the country, allowing ice to deport more people here illegally and designating mexican cartels as terrorist organizations. the group wrote texans are in imminent danger and we won't stand by while the biden administration pushes disastrous
8:29 am
policies with complete disregard for what our state and country are enduring. you know who else might like this? mexico. they have to deal with the people along the border waiting for december 21st for title 42 to go away. then it all gets worse. >> exactly. look, what this shows it is clear specific plan is this is not some impossible outlandish problem that is beyond the witt of man to solve. it takes common sense solutions written down in this proposal. of course because of the way congressional control is at the moment you have biden in the white house, this kind of legislation, the federal level looks like it won't get anywhere. why don't the states do it at the state level? this is all very well. what about abbott and kari lake was going to do something like this. border states can take action as well. i don't think we'll get it from the biden administration. >> harris: always great to see you and have you in "focus",

christ and his name. >> harris: ashley, what is your take on how hollywood treats christians? i don't think that people are surprised that a more secular society would do that but hollywood also should be looking to reach as many people with its product as possible considering how long we were locked down and people didn't go to the movies. >> i think it's not surprising that hollywood would target christians especially in the world we're living today. with us being on podcasts and youtube we're also targeted. and even locally we have been targeted. it is not surprising but like my sister said, standing strong in what we believe in is important and not being ashamed in what we believe in is important and just standing in the word of god is very important. >> harris: you know, ellen, just when you consider how people speak about the things in their lives, we know so much like juicy gossip stuff that is really inappropriate for anybody
8:52 am
to know about somebody's personal life and people trade on it all the time and put it on tiktok, cheating on my husband and this, that and the other but what you found with your podcast is that when you talk about good things, that catches fire, too. >> yes, it sure does, harris. you know, actually the reason i was drawn to your book was because of the title and i found that people need the certainty. i love the certainty of the title of your book in that we need the certainty of the hope in christ. and so i think it's important for us to take that into consideration. >> harris: what do you think are children are seeing -- thank you for mentioning "faith still moves mountains" in all of this. i feel like i've jumped into a river right now just telling this to the three of you because on coffee and bible time i am sure you get this back from people who listen and read what
8:53 am
you put out. there is a river right now of hope seekers. people who just want to change the message from all of the division and all of the hate that we have gotten ourselves into. you know what? it can feel like hate when people shut you down and say your voice doesn't count because you don't agree with everybody else. there is so much of that cancel culture out there. what is your view on how to really change that going forward so that our kids see something different, ellen? >> well, i think it's important to like stay true to your values. so my call is sort of the mentor mama of coffee and bible is to stay true to the passage which is older women, train up the younger woman. i think that when we feed into our children the depth and importance of who god is and his character, then they start to absorb those qualities as well. >> harris: it is interesting.
8:54 am
you say train them. i call it faith up. whatever we call it, it is that next generation and i want to get to this, pew research estimates shining a light on the growing number of americans saying goodbye to their christian faith right now. if the current trend of switching religions or walking away all together continues the 64% who say they identified a christians in 2020 will drop to 46% by 2070. ashley, what is your take on that? >> i think that it's very sad and now we're living in a time where christianity isn't valued as much and it is actually going to require so much more boldness to be christians and so much more courage that only the lord can give us. we're walking in a minority now. and it's going to be hard but we have to gear it up and put on
