11:01 am
with alicia today. alicia: hi eric i am alicia acuna in for arthel neville. the police are asking for help in identifying a white-hot day along drug. they say was near the victim's off-campus home early time of the murders. they are also taking aim at those who are trying to crack the case from home. they say the internet true crime community is spreading online warning they could be charged with harassment. alexis mick adams is alive in idaho with the latest. >> that is right. we've been trying to get new information online. investigators have been pretty tight lipped. we've gotten updates a short time ago talking about how this is a huge weekend at the university. they are expecting big crowds and lots of families remain the public to be vigilant and travel in groups around campus. this comes as a hunt for the killer continues. let's have the police chief has to say.
11:02 am
>> is a very important weekend for the university. it is our commencement weekend. you're going to have left. we're going to law of idaho state police will see is at the commencement as a well as around town providing safety. >> is a short time ago the university held a moment of silence for those four victims. we tell you what are the girls came was set to graduate this weekend. fama sheep are celebrated and said they are mourning for the university president a short time ago. >> it has been a tough few weeks for our community. and i want to acknowledge an enormous loss in our family recently. they were taken from us far too soon by a senseless act of violence. they were bright lights on our campus and cherished members of our community. >> tomorrow marks a one month since the students were murdered during that off-campus house.
11:03 am
they were all inside when the killer attacked. set to graduate the families grieving though as that search continues. back at her live we can say investigators are now searching for a white hyundai a launcher up or they believe the 2011 -- 2013. you're looking at stock photos put out in the past few days hoping someone recognizes that car and recognize the person or people in it. we sits near the house it was right near the house it is a dead end. for you to drive over to the university off the campus and go to that house you have to go one way in and one way out. police they could have vital information in the case. >> alexis mcadams live in idaho thank you for the update. neil: meanwhile the moscow policeman letter with tips about the hon day a lecture. so many of their forwarding calls to the fbi. they have a call center about this year's police chief james frey. >> the tip line will not go to
11:04 am
an fbi call center. we've done that because we started receiving many, many tips and the call center can categorize those and send those tips back to investigators so we can follow up and make sure we continue with our investigation. were joined by former fbi profiler mary ellen o'toole. george at the george mason university. first can you explain if they get so many tips as one would think, how do investigators prioritize the tips? you've got some attend my weird friend is driving that kind of cart may be summons posting on facebook threats with that type of carpet how do you get narrow down that information to get to a white along truck? greg said tips are coming now to the fbi. they been coming into the fbi for a while now. they been using the system to
11:05 am
prioritize those leads. and then goes ahead and assigns them out. it's actually done with a system but we've learned the hard way over the years to try to manually do that in a case like this is frankly impossible. so that is really a good thing these leads are now being reviewed in that system. eric: you start with potentially a launcher is that it registered in idaho. that man, you got five states bordering idaho there's montana, wyoming, utah, nevada, oregon, washington state. that could be oh lot of white nissan a launcher is. then you got the fact this is a college town. that car could potentially come from anywhere. what goes into what you just said the type of hardware they used to narrow it down? >> what they will do is take a look at the leads coming in. some leads may be not helpful at all because it's incomplete information. those will go into one side.
11:06 am
the leads that provide specific information like the owner of the vehicle, person associated with the vehicle or a license plate then there will be follow-up. it could be a cart registered in the state of washington, the state of illinois. it does not make any difference because all that is automated anyway. they look to see which leads provided in the specific information follow up with those first. then it will see send leads out to different fbi field offices. we have field offices in every state in the united states. we can get information back pretty quickly. especially if the leave is sent out to interview someone. in person interview the fbi can do better than any other agency. eric: that is for short thinkers for the agents who work out there tirelessly for law enforcement. you've been a profiler. what does this case say to you what is it stand out to you? you got to sleeping housemates
11:07 am
untouched on the first floor. the killer or curlers have to go up the floor to the second floor. what type of profiles you see here. >> what really stands out to me is this, the offender came into that house at a time of early morning hours when there's no expectations of a conversation. so therefore they came into that house to murder those people. and specifically targeted individuals. breathy hatred with him into that crime scene. we see that in other cases. so what does that mean? hatred is developed over a period of time it's usually focused on a particular group of people. so now the question is, what was said about the targeted people that generated that type of hate that warranted this offender coming in the early morning hours to murder them? there's absolutely nothing those victims could have done that warranted what happened, absolutely nothing.
11:08 am
the issue is with the offender. why that is important is people that know this offender beware of the people of this offender hates that we were the groups this offender hates. that should be a leader help it is. eric: that's fastening talk about that more. let's say someone expressed hatred, anger, resentment, jealousy over this group over a period of months. if you are out there watching this or know about this, these valuable tips or information that could potentially lead authorities to someone. and if that person potentially has a white along truck and you may be getting somewhere. >> you may be getting somewhere. in some people interested in post offense behaviors. what is this offender doing now? one of the things i think he's doing because i say he's statistically that's the most likely, they are following this case in the media or online. engaging in conversations for people for example.
11:09 am
people know this offender will know the fascination in the obsession with the ninth, the practice with a knife if they know him well they will hear him or have heard him talk over the past weeks or months about groups of people that he hates for what other unknown reason. they will be aware of that. that is not something offender suffer in science and trunk silence for the appeal lisa got to the people who know this person and know what this person is like on a daily basis. eric: e-filing side but hate and emotion. can you describe a student being opposed to being shy this is a very personal close face-to-face type of horrendous murder with a knife that stab someone we have seen this in previous cases. what does that tell you? what can that help to know the type of a murder weapon was used in this as this happens? >> when i use the term hates to
11:10 am
not be confused with anger. hatred is a state of mind. and it's over time. when the person was not state of hatred there's only two things they can do directed at the target of that hatred for it whether it's minorities or whatever it is. the only thing they can do is to attempt to destroy them or completely move away from them, have nothing to do with them. but there will be in obsession with this hatred. this person will talk about them. this person will engage in discussions with it. this person will justify it. this person will ruminate about it. evidence, signs of this hatred and whenever they have the opportunity to talk about it they will. not specifically this case but how this group is so bad at house group is doing this to people. how this group needs to be destroyed, this is wrong. that's kind of thing they want people to look for.
11:11 am
eric: family people your advice and people living in the area, watch to see if people have acted this way the people have expressed this in the past about this group and or social media may be if not know them personally. >> yes. here's the thing we struggle against forever on these kinds of cases. if somebody knows a person who is like this they will find reasons not to call into the police. that is my relative comment that is my neighbor. they look really normal and really fine. we are not looking in this case for freddy krueger. we are not looking for a monster we are not looking for an evil person. we are looking for person who appears very normal and probably on the service was a pro social life. asking people to call in with their leads even if it doesn't violate the feelings you have for this person. and do not screen the leads yourself but do not have a conversation with yourself not
