organization to proi the best possible safety we can within the guideline of the constitution, when you cut a system out, it makes it less effective. >> todd: viewing from incentives, if you know you won't be deported what is to keep you from committing a crime if you know there are nots consequences? >> that is what we see time and time again in the state of illinois, a growing removal of accountability from our system. to see this policy put in place, it is not a surprise to me or other leaders, at the southern end of the state where i'm located at and we have seen accountability moved and it is as you said, removes deterrence and makes criminals less frightened of the system, more apt to commit crime. >> todd: it is important to remind everyone that literally

the only job really that our governments have is to keep us safe, end of the day, that is all they are there to do. time and time again in blue districts and cities, blue whatever, they ignore that number one job. how much does policy like mayor lightfoot jeopardize the public safety? >> i believe any time that you handcuff law enforcement when they have a crime that has been committed like having an illegal immigrant in custody that they have lawful constitutional reason to detain that person, and then you don't, it creates unnecessary victims, additional victims that would have never happened had that person be incarcerated and proper deport agsz or other consequences took place. it is not just people in chicago. these people travel.

i-57 is pipeline to cook county area and people not detained for lawful reason that travel outside the city, many have criminal records and they continue to commit crimes, they are not just doing it in cook county. >> todd: you are in jefferson county, what can you do to protect your people? >> well, we do everything within our ability to provide public safety and while maintaining constitutional guidelines that protect everyone's civil liberties, we don't politicize, we investigate crime and hold the criminal accountable. and i think it is important for every jurisdiction to do that. >> todd: what is the working relationship between the two counties?

the real scheme of where the billions of dollars ultimately wept. but, you know, this is going to be something that, you know, rivals bernie sanders madoff and other big scams of our times. >> carley: yeah, the "new york times" reporting charges could include wire fraud, securities fraud and money laundering. just give it your best guess at this point, i guess. what do you think his future looks like and do you think that the people who invested some of them their life savings into ftx. do you think there is any chance they will get their money back? >> well, they are going to be able to know where the money went. that's the interesting thing about the block chain technology is a lot of these transactions have complete ledgers so you can see the money come in and go out. but, you know, this -- i mean, he is looking at a long time, billions under the federal sentencing guidelines add up very quickly. is he looking at decades in prison ultimately if he is convicted. i think it's fairly weak for

him. the victims, that's the saddest part. these folks have lost a lot of their life savings and ultimately hard to recover since a lot of these transactions were very speculative in nature. >> carley: there is also a lot of news right now, attorney general, taking place at our southern border. even more activity than usual. and it has been at record highs for the past two years. there was just a caravan of over 1,000 people in el paso, texas crossing into the country in el paso. that's one of the largest groups that our reporters down at the southern border has ever seen. 16,000 people crossing into the southern border in just a two-day period alone. when you see footage like this of all of these people crossing all at once at this level, what goes through your head and, also, keep in mind title 42 is going to end next week, which will make this problem even worse. >> well, i think like a lot of americans, there aren't words to
