preparing emergency ppe, and focusing on high risk elderly americans. dr. makary, how do you feel about this plan? >> there is political risk of getting caught flat-footed with a bad flu or covid season and not being fully prepared with the right number of test. there is no reason to chase down every case with a test of only one respiratory virus circulating right now and that virus ranks distant number three to influenza and rsv. if people say they tested negative for covid, it doesn't make sense, there is similar risk. >> carley: philadelphia school district is bringing back masks, they announced a mask mandate right after winter break saying this is a preventative measure. how do you feel about that?

>> well, the thing is, kids are being subjected to a mask mandate and adults are not. i've been to seven doctor conferences. masks may help reduce influenza transmission, a mandate creates never maskers and never va xxers. this is probably not going to fly. >> carley: doctors are saying the reason a lot of people are sick issue including kids, they were masked up for so long and don't have immunity to certain diseases, is that true? >> yes, immune sheltering is one reason flu may be coming back with a vengeance right now.
