weekend. that storm will have a devastating impact on airlines. hundreds of flights already canceled or delayed. >> dana: roughly 2/3 of flights nationwide will be impacted by storm with blizzard conditions to make travel virtually impossible across the midwest. that's later this week. >> bill: fox weather correspondent nicole is live at nashville international airport with a lowdown on what's happening there. good morning, nicole. >> good morning. definitely not what you want to hear a few days from the christmas holiday. unfortunately this could be a weather nightmare. this arctic blast may not ruin the holidays but could turn into a life-threatening situation in some areas. blizzard conditions in some areas of the plains. talking below freezing. some below 0 temperatures there. and we're looking at close to 300 flights canceled today

alone. more than 500 delayed so far as winter storm warnings are in effect for the northwest including seattle metro where heavy snow is already starting to fall. look at states like hawaii. they're reporting hundreds of delays there. more than two dozen cancellations after travelers dealt with severe turbulence on their way to the state's big island. now several major airlines including american, jetblue, united and southwest are hoping to get a handle on the demand for travel and they are encouraging passengers to change their flights at no cost. they are offering them options to book their same flight for a different day, a different time or potentially to a different airport near their destination. now experts warn you may need a backup plan at this point if impacts start to trickle down. unfortunately as we approach later on this week they only expect those delays and cancellations to grow and all that system is going to move from the northwest through the plains into the northeast.

it is just going to be a messy christmas unfortunately. it is about that time to start looking at the backup plan and potentially take action on it. >> bill: 21st is tomorrow, right? so we'll be in the season then. nicole, nice to see you in nashville. thank you. >> dana: fox news alert a magnitude 6.4 earthquake rattling california early this morning and leaving thousands without power. we have the latest. tell us more, claudia. >> i can tell you that the shaking has not stopped. at least 20 after shocks so far after that big earthquake woke everyone up at 2:34 this morning. this happened about 7 1/2 miles southwest of ferndale, a coastal community near the oregon border and 5 hour drive from san francisco. the 6.4 earthquake struck along the junction of the san andreas

and ten miles deep and felt off the coast and felt in some parts of the bay area hundreds of miles away where some residents not a notification on the my shake alert app. two injuries have been confirmed and reports are flooding in of widespread damage to roads and homes. they released this picture of a roadway that buckled and remains closed. some residents have taken to social media to show the mess inside their homes. take a look at this. pictures and books fell off, tables overturned. this video comes from the owner of a 100-year-old victorian home who apologized for the dark video but not alone. at this report more than 70,000 customers had lost power. 70% of the homes and businesses in that area. the local utility is warning people to be prepared for further shaking that could cause more destruction and hazards. i mentioned those after shocks. several have measured in the 3.2

to 4.6 range. so not insignificant. pg&e says it could take a few days to get everyone back online. at this point officials with the national weather service say there is no threat of a tsunami because of this earthquake but reports of damage and injuries are still coming in and we'll keep you posted. >> dana: i hope everyone is all right. >> bill: five minutes past the hour now and we have our seventh installment of the twitter files now revealing how the f.b.i. worked to suppress the hunter biden laptop story. the "new york post" cover calling the tech giant a bird in the hand. miranda devine is a columnist for the post and fox news contributor. thank you for your time. want to remind folks, the f.b.i. have a laptop for a year and knew it was real and you say the f.b.i. was grooming twitter employees to recognize your laptop story. how so? >> that's right, bill and dana.

it was pretty clear that there was really a psychological operation being conducted against twitter executives by the f.b.i. so that when our story came up in october of 2020, that they would recognize it immediately as a russian hack and leak operation because they had been warned for weeks by f.b.i. exactly what to look for. in fact, to look for this operation in october and that it would involve hunter biden. and remember that the f.b.i. was paying twitter $3.4 million they gave them to help censor americans and particularly our story three weeks before the election. >> dana: lou said he read this. you don't have to. twitter disagreed with the f.b.i. you're welcome. matt taibbi responded and saying it's very odd that people, being ted lieu, think the f.b.i., dhs

relationship is a partisan story. it has grown under republican and democratic administrations. this concerns everyone. do you agree? >> absolutely. ted lieu has a vested interest there. and the fact is that every american should be very concerned about the fact that the premier law enforcement agency, the f.b.i., has been doing this sort of subterranean influence operation on the social media giants in order to tilt the 2020 election in favor of one candidate in order to suppress an accurate story by the "new york post." now, the f.b.i. have been spying on rudy giuliani throughout 2020. they would have had access to the email that came through from the computer repair shop owner to rudy giuliani, pressing his concerns about the laptop material on it pertaining

particularly to ukraine and millions of dollars paid to hunter biden, which he was concerned would have compromised candidate joe biden. so the f.b.i. had access to that. they had access to messages between me and rudy giuliani in october which would have alerted them to the fact the "new york post" was about to public. and they lied to twitter and told them that this was going to be a russian hacking operation. and that was why twitter on the morning that we published immediately censored us using their hacked materials policy. >> bill: miranda, one last question here. republicans will take over the house in the new year. we've seen investigations in congress. sometimes they go nowhere. where do you expect this story to go in the new year? >> look, i think that this time the republicans have an enormous trove of information. the twitter files has given them

a lot and so have the f.b.i. whistleblowers and tony bobulinski and the laptop. there is a wealth of information from the treasury department showing the money coming from china, russia, ukraine into biden family coffers. they have said that they are investigating joe biden because this is about his family's influence operation using him as a person that greases the wheels and meets the potential business partners. i think that they have so much information to go on and let's hope elon musk is not leaned on by wall street as seems to be happening right now today as we speak to intimidate him into not releasing anymore information. there is a lot more in the twitter files to come. >> bill: thank you. off we go into the new year. she mentioned elon musk at the end there. i just checked the twitter feed. he hasn't tweeted in eight hours. he put that poll out there and said do you want me to run the

broke in through the back door of that oscar winner's townhouse. when she was arrested she told police she didn't do it. >> i didn't do it. >> anything you want to say? >> i didn't murder anybody. i didn't rob anyone's house. >> 30-year-old woman has a long rap sheet, arrested 17 times for burglary alone within the last two years. she was also arrested less than one week ago and was already back and at it again. 69,000 a month recental town home. the suspect entered his house in the middle of the night and checked out the presents under his christmas tree. she was attempting to remove property. she was taken into custody quickly without incident. this is another example of a growing crime trend across new york city. check it out here, robbery,

fallen crypto king sam bankman-fried expected to be extradited to the u.s. to face several criminal charges over the ftx collapse. it may happen as early as today. colin mcshane is outside the district court in lower manhattan. are they expecting him today? >> there is no sign of him right now but this is fluid. it could change. once it does change, it could change very quickly. sbf did, we think waive his right to fight the extradition from the bahamas to the united states. he did it after his court appearance. we saw him leaving the courthouse in the bahamas. in court things were chaotic. his lawyer in the bahamas claimed he was shocked to see him in the courtroom. asked the judge to take a break and after that the lawyer said sbf needed more information before he agreed to the

extradition. he was sent back to jail for a time. yet another twist yesterday the same lawyer, very same day, told a group of reporters that he agreed to go along with it after all. so we'll see. once he does arrive here in new york he is facing eight federal charges wire fraud, security fraud, money laundering. you see at the bottom of the screen campaign finance violation. he was arrested about a week ago in the bahamas. if you had to sum up the charges against him you would say he is accused of using billions of dollars in customer deposits to his crypto currency exchange in order to finance his trading firm and also his lavish lifestyle. now fox has learned once he does arrive here in new york he is expected to be released on bail in a deal struck as we understand it between the prosecutors and the judge here. as you guys know, that at the end of the day is always up to

the judge. district judge abrams. in the next couple of days we expect to see sam bankman-fried here in new york. >> bill: want to bring in trey gowdy. early merry christmas to you. a couple of things i want to show you. here are the charges. maximum sentences, two counts of wire fraud, conspiracy, could be 20 years, two counts of wire fraud, another 20 years, conspiracy to commit securities fraud and on. it's all about fraud and it's all about conspiracy. you are a former prosecutor so you look at this case how when you know that he gave upwards of $40 million to democratic candidates and causes? >> the word that catches my attention is the word conspiracy. all the rest of it just means stealing, embezzling, taking stuff that doesn't belong to you. conspiracy is an agreement, unlawful agreement with two or

more to break the law. who was he doing it with? in particular i feel terrible for the victims, but the politically interesting part are the fec violations, the political donations. that's also a conspiracy count. who was he conspiring with? so are there other shoes, other names, other people being indicted? that's what i find most interesting. >> dana: and how -- in a case like this, when he comes back, i know sometimes it can take months before there is a trial. do you expect that to be even in 2023 probably towards the latter end? >> the more complex the case. it sounds complicated because you hear fraud and commodities and crypto. i don't think it is. when i listen to other legal experts they say it's pretty straight forward. congressional testimony is straight forward stealing. here is why i think it matters. bail and bond, the sooner

prosecutors say they're ready to go to court the more likely a judge is to keep him behind bars until the trial date. if the trial date is a year in the future he is probably going to grant him bond. if i'm a prosecutor i say i'm ready to go right now. >> bill: let's see what comes of that. i want to ask you about the fox polling we did for the holiday gives us a sense of the temperature for the country and how people are thinking about their own lives and their future. here is one guy. in 2022, was it a good year or a bad year for your family? we've got 52% saying it was -- it was up -- sorry. this is in reverse order. it's like doing math live on tv. it is down slightly from a year ago. which would suggest that people think this past year was better than the year prior. just go ahead and wax poetic on that what we have here.

>> well, i'm not good on poetry. what that tells me is the pandemic makes us fear for our lives. it makes us fear for our way of life, whereas inflation we can recover from inflation. we can save more, we can make more, we can work harder. but if you're dead, there is no recovery from that. so i'm not surprised. what did surprise me about the polling was hope. hope is one of those things that you can be both rational and delusional and still believe in hope. hope is -- it doesn't have to be rooted in logic and rationality. and yet about half of our fellow citizens still do not have hope. that's what concerned me about the polling. >> dana: hopeful for the country's future, yes at 53%. that's up from last year quite significantly actually. but you are right, hope is

big chain stores are limiting purchases, cvs has placed a two-product limit on all kids pain relief products bought through its pharmacies or online. walgreens limiting customers to six purchases of children's over the counter fever-reducing products when buying online and kroger is asking customers to limit purchases to two kids pain relief products and four cold and flu items. now there are a number of factors behind this situation. one is the early flu season combined with the circulation of the respiratory illnesses among patients. pharmaceutical companies miscalculateed the demand this season and one pediatrician thinks consumer behavior is also to blame here. watch. >> very sad. i don't think all the people who are buying the motrin and tylenol actually need all of it. there is a lot of hoarding going
