life threatening as conditions intensify. windchill temperatures will plunge. >> dana: fox weather team coverage. robert ray is in chicago. first max gordon is live in fargo, north dakota where temperatures were in the negative teens overnight. i don't know how you're doing it outside. >> when you walk outside it is incredible. the first breath of the frigid air knocks the wind right out of you. when you walk around you can feel the tingling on your face. negative 15 degrees in fargo, north dakota. but it feels a lot colder. more like negative 23 degrees because of the windchill. here on the plains, there is not much to stop the wind. no hills, no trees really to speak of. so even the slightest little gust of wind can wick all the heat off of you. it can be very dangerous. frostbite can form within 5 to

10 minutes. people out here really need to be careful. we're seeing windchill numbers down into the low 30s here and over in montana down into the low 60s. incredible. we're seeing snow in north dakota, between 2 to 4 inches of snow. not a whole lot. but that blowing snow is a concern in some areas of the state making travel tricky. we're already seeing icing on the roads. dana. >> dana: everyone needs to be careful and listen to max and download the fox weather app as well. >> bill: looking good for 15 below. justice department calling for a brief extension of title 42 to work out a new plan at the border. fox news footage shows hundred of migrants camping out on the rio grande river last night. the texas national guard set up rows of razor wire this week to keep them out. in eagle pass, texas video shows a line of 200 migrants stopped after they crossed illegally. grady trimble is live in sierra

vista, what have you seen there? >> good morning, bill. smuggling of drugs and people is a huge problem along this part of the border. in fact, it has gotten so bad the sheriff's office here has created a brand-new team specifically designed to tackle border-related crimes. within ten minutes of meeting that team, here is what we saw. >> vehicle in oncoming traffic. still northbound. >> you saw deputies putting spike strips across the road to try to stop a suspected smuggler on a main highway. he drives into oncoming traffic before abandoning his car in a ditch and running for it. the suspect didn't make it far before deputies caught and arrested him. >> department of public safety will do their investigation and find out whether he was being used to smuggling, if the vehicle was stolen, if there are

drugs, narcotics or weapons in the vehicle. >> almost all people arrested for smuggling people and drugs into the u.s. are u.s. citizens, some of them as young as 13 years old. in many cases, they are recruited by the cartel on social media with the promise of making quick cash. the deputy we rode along with is seeing firsthand how fentanyl is destroying these border communities. >> i arrest kids i went to school with because they got hooked on fentanyl, heroin. it has decimated the local communities. >> what period of time has it gotten this bad? >> last 2 or 3 years we've seen an uptick like i have never seen before. >> the sheriff is echoing what other officials are saying. the smuggling and migrant crossings will only get worse if title 42 is lifted.

trying to do something in yemen let's not be naive to say our military doesn't use these types of things to disseminate information, make sure that the american message is out there. the big concern is when it was inward facing and they engaged in domestic politics. that's where it is way over the line and it is just fundamentally totally wrong. >> bill: jessica, for years we were told that the russian government was putting ads on facebook and influenced the outcome of an election in 2016. apples to apples, it would appear. >> i don't think we should ever treat what our government or the russians and chinese are doing as apple to apples. >> point being that all governments try and have influence on matters that affect others. >> sure. i find that will lead to a

slippery slope problem. there are a number of people who said the russian government or russian journalists do x, y or z and the russia government throws russian journalists of balconies. we're not doing that here and we weren't trying to do that through any d.o.d. operations that are being executed through twitter. but what i took away from this and i did find to be really interesting it was going on so the tweets that lee fang is referring to -- it seemed that jim baker who has become a focal point of this conversation was actually being -- of what the d.o.d. was asking and he was pushing back a bit on that. one thing that lee fang does that matt taibbi and bari weiss did from documents that i reviewed without showing us the documents. i'm perfectly open to the idea that there was abuse from the d.o.d. and f.b.i. whatever it

is. i would like to see the documents they're talking about. >> okay. so jason, elon musk said should i stay or poll on a poll, 57% of people said you should step down at ceo. he tweeted i will resign as ceo as soon as i find someone foolish enough to take the job. otherwise i will run the software and servers team. i think it's pretty funny, someone foolish enough to take the job. a tough job. do you have anyone on your mind that would take it? >> look, who are the 57% who want to fire the best ceo this country may have ever developed? the guy builds rockets better than nasa, the most viable electric car and started pay pell and artificial intelligence company second to none. some people think i wouldn't want him to run my company? are you stupid.

harris. the defense bill may prevent service academy athletes from playing professional sports right away. marking a big change from an earlier provision. it says this. an agreement by a cadet or midshipman to play professional sport is a breach of service. he may not obtain employment until after completing the cadet's commission service obligation. a lot of money on the line here. brian kilmeade, co-host of "fox & friends" on radio. good to have you on. there is a provision carved out by congress. on its face, what do you make of this today? >> is it necessary? was there a problem with too many players at west point an indianapolis and air force academy saying i want to go pro? i haven't heard of a problem. was it president trump brought it up a couple years ago and said these agent lets that emerge that have pro potential. why rob them of a window to make

generational money in professional sports? in a situation which passes the criteria, let them play. in the case of this guy andre carter, s6'7. he said i signed up knowing if i emerge as a pro prospect i can play and then go do my service afterwards. what's the problem? now they will go ahead and bring this in. i don't get it. some people like mike gallagher seemed to have stepped up and said we have to grandfather those who went to the academy under the auspices if they emerge and want to go pro they could. >> dana: it would make sense. a quote from andre's parents. thank you to the members of congress who spoke out and worked in support of andre and other service academy cadets and mid midshipmen's who made decision. it will be imprinted upon us.

the goodness of people. you don't know how many people there would be. i don't know a lot about sports but bill is explaining sometimes the academies don't necessarily produce players like this. in this case of andre carter he seems like he could be a 1 or 2 draft pick? >> yeah, not only that, dana, what president trump said after hearing this story let's make a provision for the unique athletes to have this window. david robinson, you know him well. he grew six inches in academy. the spurs draft him number one. after roughly six months they go, go play, come back and serve in a different way. he ends up having a hall of fame career. i'm afraid of the national men or women star i will serve, i want to go serve my country, i want to be an elite officer and i will go wherever you want me to go. can i see what my potential is

amount varied by year with $641,000 paid in 2015. by 2020 appears he did not pay any federal income tax. the i.r.s. has had a longstanding policy of auditing every president in office. democrats say the i.r.s. did not closely examine trump's taxes until 2019, well into his first term. >> we think the mandatory audit program certainly needs to be bolstered and boosted and we intend to do that as part of new investments. >> we've reached out to former president trump's team and yet to hear back. house republicans argue it is nothing more than a political stunt and believe the i.r.s. is being weaponized for political purposes. >> our worry is this will launch a dangerous new era, a new political background for frankly politics gets more divisive, more painful and i think more disheartening. >> now trump was repeatedly

even months karine jean-pierre, the president's white house press secretary said if republicans would just help them pass more money this problem would be solved. is that how you see it? >> well, for one, if they pass more money, but it had to be passed to be used effectively to actually secure the border. what the omnibus bill -- easy to say -- what it does not provide is for more security. look, let's go back and look at some of the outrageous things in there. i know that the united states is committed to try to help ukraine. i just wish and american people would hope that for every dollar they give to the ukraine, they would give just a dime to secure our own border. in that very bill they are giving money to tunisia but not to texas to deal with their border security problem. the priority established in that bill are reprehensible when it comes to addressing the real

>> dana: the year is coming to a close, the dea is releasing staggering numbers, 379 million deadly doses of fentanyl in 20 202022 -- the dea says its top priority is taking down the two mexican cartels primarily responsible for bringing in the fentanyl that's killing americans. >> good morning. we're in the dea's northeast regional drug -- this morning she is sifting through a bag of 20,000 rainbow colored fentanyl

laced fake prescription pills. this year lab testing found that six out of every ten fake pills seized nationwide contains a lethal dose of fentanyl. up from four out of ten last year. 2022 saw a record increase in deadliness and supply of the drugs. the dea seized over 50 million, more than double last year and nearly 11,000 pounds of fentanyl powder. that's essentially enough to kill every single american. if you look at this. we have two milligrams of fentanyl is enough to kill. that's a fraction of the size of a penny. to put in other words, if this one gram packet of sweet and low was filled with pure fentanyl it is enough to kill 500 people. the dea seized the equivalent of 5 million packets of sweet and low filled with fentanyl powder this year. astounding. look at this map. the deadly fentanyl originates

primarily from china and india. blue lines are production equipment. red lines are ingredients. most goes to mexico where two cartels manufacture these fentanyl-laced pills smuggled across the border illegally and sold in the u.s. >> the production labs are not being met with any resistance. they are operating with impunity in mexico. the mexican government is not going after the labs. >> the dea launched the faces of fentanyl campaign to honor victims of fentanyl poisonings which are now the number one cause of death for young americans. a record more than 107,000 americans died of drug overdoses over a year, most from fentanyl po poisoning. many of the victims are taking counterfeit pills designed to look exactly like oxy, xanax and

percocet and they unknowingly taken and there is a lethal dose of fentanyl inside. >> dana: incredible story. thank you. >> bill: want to bring in the host of "the story", martha maccallum. listening to bryan's report. you see that woman and where does it end when she is going through the rainbow-colored pills. where isn't there a call to arms to go after this? >> exactly. i think the same thing. you think about crack, right, and the crackdown on crack that happened. i believe this needs to start from the top. you need to have a huge push from the white house to stop what's coming through the border. and two basic cartels who are responsible for this. the chemicals are sourced from china. you have this manufacturing labs, secret labs in mexico. so president biden is going to go there. he is going to meet with the president there. i don't know how much power the

president has over this situation at this point. but we certainly hope that there will be some action taken on this situation. the largest -- the group dying of overdoses are teenagers in america, 100,000 americans lost their lives last year to this. this is a major, major issue. and it is so frightening when you hear bryan talk about per percocet. one girl died in her high school bathroom. she and her friends thought they were sampling a percocet to see what it would feel like. >> bill: nancy reagan took on the issue in the 80s. dr. jill biden can take it on now. >> dana: president biden when he met with the president of china, i didn't see anything in there about that. >> president trump did talk to president xi about tracking down on fentanyl and the chemicals. they can't make it without the chemicals from china.

you need to disrupt the supply chain of this drug. >> dana: the news overnight taliban are saying afghan women can't go to any universities. the highest level you can go is sixth grade in afghanistan now if you are a girl. human rights watch said the taliban are making it clear every day they don't respect the fundamental rights of afghans especially women. that's not a news flash. we knew it. >> you think about all the work that was done and you were close to at the time, dana, from the bush administration to help afghan girls go to school and it was a beautiful and important part of supporting that country, which we did for over 20 years. in all of this one of the teachers said my female students are distraught and i don't know how to console them. they are watching their entire future go down the drain and told basically they can do nothing except sit at home and marry at some point.

she said she had the same experience and she said when she was a teenager. she lost many years of her own education and she said the day the taliban returned to power in kabul i knew that they would ban girls from the university. >> bill: what's so disappointing is when you listen to afghan women up until now who bragged and boasted about the progress they made and how proud they were where they had come. >> it's tragic. >> dana: as 43 used to say, no country can succeed if you suppress 50% of your people. you just won't succeed. you see changes in saudi arabia and they made some relatively remarkable progress. afghanistan ising completely backwards. >> you think about what we hear about women and inequality in this country. where is the american movement among women to stand up for these women in afghanistan and women in iran, i would point out, whose freedoms are taken away every day? where is hollywood on this?
