pouring into el paso. meantime the big question, where is president biden during all of this? the former border patrol chief warns the crisis will spiral further out of control when those trump-era asylum limits are lifted. >> 6,000 to 8,000 people coming across the border every 24 hours. if they lift or rescind the title 42, then we'll see more people coming across the border. it's already overwhelmed, right? there is not enough floor space, not enough processing capability, there is not enough workstations, the workflow for border patrol. they're already overwhelmed. >> bill melugin is in eagle pass, texas this morning at the border. good morning, bill. >> julie, good morning. a lot to show our viewers today. we'll get right into it starting with this. just in from our thermal drone team showing new video of another group of several hundred migrants who crossed illegally

into eagle pass. we continue to see this every single day out here in the pre-dawn hours. reminder most of the people crossing here from countries not subject to title 42 like nicaragua and cuba. once they're done being processed they'll be likely released into the u.s., the majority of them. then we'll show you what happened in maverick county yesterday. wild video. texas dps and border patrol arrested a group of illegal immigrants hitching a ride on a train hidden among beer cases. one had a small little child with them crammed inside the train. we've seen this before where migrants get on the trains in an effort to hitch a ride deeper into the united states. take a look at these images. texas dps finding illegal immigrants hiding inside of brand-new vehicles being shipped on these trains to dealerships in the san antonio area. sometimes these new vehicles are left open and these migrants can

get in them trying to get deeper into the state of texas. this is el paso. illegal immigrants looking to evade. they're running across interstate 10. a lot of traffic. you can see them running across the road going disappearing off into neighborhoods. no border patrol around. if they were never apprehended they become what's known as gotaways. large groups of these migrants running across the highway and disappearing into the city. we'll take you to arizona. several major fentanyl busts starting with this one. know gal easiest -- they find a secret compartment on the train. 736,000 fentanyl pills found inside as well as 196 pounds of meth. this happened yesterday. the day before that, take a look at these photos, another major

fentanyl bust. cbp again in arizona stopping two vehicles at the port of entry and seizing more than 300,000 fentanyl pills hidden in a vehicle's gas tank and underneath seats. you are looking at more than 1 million fentanyl pills seized in the last 48 hours alone at that one entry. that plays into what the cdc announced today. in 2022 they report there have been almost 107,000 overdose deaths in the united states primarily driven by fentanyl. those numbers up 16% over 2020. we'll send it back to you. >> julie: great reporting. >> john: right now let's bring in former acting dhs secretary chad wolf. the president, it would seem, is beginning to lose some democrats over the continuing crisis at the border. the president and ceo of the united states hispanic business

counsel and this is what he told us on america reports yesterday. >> i voted for joe biden and i'm pleading with him to come down here and illustrate he cares for the people of south texas. everybody here, male, female, republican, democrat. everybody agrees on one thing. this is a crisis and we need attention from washington and we need action from our leaders. the democrats will make a republican out of me. >> john: he is a democrat and voted for biden. >> the frustration is all along the border. i don't think they can ignore the reality any longer. it is not only the wrong policies that are creating the border crisis that we have but there is no empathy from this administration. they don't want to talk about the humanitarian crisis that these migrants have to go through nor do they want to talk about what these communities along the border have to go through, what border agents have to go through. i talk about having the president or vice president

visiting the border not to solve it. they aren't going to. but talk with border patrol agents. they will get a different perspective and a different lens how they need to look at the border by talking to front linemen and women down there every day that live in these communities and bring the job home every day. when they don't do that it does a disservice to the law enforcement officers. >> john: if they're allowed to speak their minds the president will get an earful. let's take a look how the numbers have changed. fiscal year 2020, 458,000, 2021 that number increased. 2022, 2,378,000. so far in fiscal year 23 we're out pacing last year. the cartels are seeing there is only a finite number in the people in the triangle countries so they're casting a wider net.

>> absolutely. what border patrol sees on that border, they are apprehending individuals from 130, 140 different countries around the world. there are only 180. the vast majority of volkswagen around the world know now is the time to do it and across the southern border. cartels know this. they need more product and people. they're making millions of dollars every week and day on this and casting the wider net and recruiting folks from other countries saying we can get you in. now is the time because of the policies of this administration, if we get you across that border we have a good chance of doing that, odds are you are going to stay. >> john: that's an interesting analysis. i have not heard that before. omnibus spending bill didn't get passed last night. they didn't have an agreement on it. when you look at what the omnibus spending bill $1.7 billion for the border is

230 million for border security technology but not used for a barrier. 1.56 billion in border processing funds that can't be used for security. it says the 1.56 building cannot extend border security technology and capabilities except for technology and capabilities to improve border patrol processing. this bill appears to be geared toward facilitating the entry of people into this country as opposed to keeping them out. >> this is really important. i've been talking and others are talking about what is the strategy the biden administration has. we talk about they want to manage the crisis and process more people into the country. guess what? the omnibus bill the language you read lays out the strategy. no debating or guessing, they have put it in that bill that the administration backs. they want to process more and manage more. they don't want to solve it. you solve it you give money to the border patrol to solve the

crisis and implement border security . you don't simply have them manage. $8 hundred million will be taken from cbp and given to fema to give to ngo to provide food and shelter. you give taxpayer money from an agency doing border security and doing it to an agency for food and shelter on a crisis you created. it is completely backwards. >> john: we saw a report from the american heritage foundation the ngos are facilitating spreading those illegal migrants far and wide across the country. >> it was a great report. more needs to be done to crack down on these groups. biden administration is funneling immense amounts of taxpayer dollars to these groups and has been over the last 23 months. >> john: good to see you. thanks for kicking us off. >> julie: a potentially life threatening winter storm is sweeping the midwest bringing heavy snow, ice and strong winds. 150 million americans are

dealing with subzero temperatures this week. we are joined from minneapolis where today's high is expected to be oh, you know, a nice and balmy minus five degrees. i hope you have long underwear on. >> i have a lot of areas. if you told me i would be standing in negative seven degree temperatures and with the windchill negative 31 but this is the kind of weather the nightmares are made of. this weather here just hurts. it is chilling and brutal. you can just feel it down to your bones. i will tell you, i grew up in northeast ohio and on the great lakes. i'm used to this kind of weather. it wasn't until i moved to minnesota that people here taught me how to embrace winter and winter is not your enemy. you just need to have ice cleats for boots, good snow tires and have a lot of layers and good

president zelensky is wanting more types of weapons and more weapons, more aid but he still made sure to thank the united states and president biden and the congress when he came to the white house yesterday and made that address before congress last evening. still he says he would like more aid. last night he said the billions in u.s. aid just wasn't charity. he called it an investment in global security. >> your support is crucial, not just to stem the fight but to get to the turning point to win on the battlefield. we have artillery, yes, thank you. we have it. is it enough? honestly, not really. [laughter] to insure -- not just the strongholds that holds back the russian army but for the russian army to completely pull out.

>> this is his first known trip outside ukraine since russia invaded in february. he said in the span of the day he traveled from the front lines of the war to the white house and then congress. congress is working through funding the federal government considering a $1.7 trillion spending package. that includes tens of billions more for ukraine on top of the $68 billion the u.s. has already given. >> we're not too worried about the votes for the omnibus bill and for the $45 billion embedded in the bill to get passed through both houses and fairly soon. we obviously think that president zelensky's visit will certainly help demonstrate the need for this support going forward. >> independent analysis says the united states has supplied more than 60% of the aid to ukraine since the war began. the u.s. announced yesterday it is supplying a patriot missile battery. back to you. >> john: debate fell apart in the omnibus bill early this

morning. see if they can regroup later on today. >> julie: sam bankman-fried freed is here on u.s. soil. fox news cameras were rolling the moment he arrived last night after being extradited from the bahamas and now appear before a federal judge in new york city today. he is charged with what prosecutors are calling one of the biggest financial frauds in american history. dave rubin, the host of the rubin report. two of his former top executives of the trading empire have now pled guilty to federal charges, fraud charges and they are cooperating in the prosecution of the disgraced crypto entrepreneur. let's talk about these two and the impact how this might unfold on him. the two are car line ellison, she was the crave executive of

alameda research and 29 young yang. how will their pleas bolster the case against mr. fried. >> they will sell him up the river because he is the big fish here and his tentacles went everywhere into the entertainment industry and sports world an especially our political world. the story broke 2 or 3 days after the mid-term elections. after all of that cash had been laundered through the system and sent different places and houses were bought and campaigns were funded and consultants got their cash and the democrats won because he was the second largest donor to the democrats, then this story collapses. this guy is in a lot of trouble. clearly they will cut deals to make sure that he goes away and they will get lesser sentences. that's how the whole operation works. >> julie: these three were tight. it makes it more interesting for me. mr. wang, ms. ellison weren't

just close colleagues. the three actually lived together, okay? they were a three-some -- i don't mean it in that regard. they were roommates, okay? you never know, the story gets crazier by the day but they lived together in a luxurious penthouse in the bahamas where ftx was based. tell about how the civil and criminal charges against this former top executive will actually put bankman-fried in an even more perilous legal position now that his counterparts, his roommates are behind bars? >> it's not just that he was funding all of these operations, be it political or whatever it might be. his parents were buying these crazy condos and houses and he was putting money into real estate. the entire thing was a giant shell game that he was aware of. he has done a couple really bizarre interviews since this

thing broke and clear he just wants to pretend he was just this nice guy in over his head and should have worked harder and paid more attention. none of that is going the fly. he is going to be in trouble. they are going to be in trouble. i hope -- we go through those stories every decade or so. an enron or madoff story. i hope people aware. when media tells you when somebody is good. they would say he is the future of finance and the jesus two of money and all this stuff and turns out he was a complete fraud. not 99% fraud, but a complete flawed. we need to be aware when the machine props up somebody like this and every athlete and celebrity behind him maybe something is rotten back there. >> julie: something smells. i need to move on. the f.b.i. is responding to revelations from the twitter files that expose the agency's close contact with twitter

employees to flag certain tweets and accounts. no surprise there. they are slamming accusations of conspiracy theories now. i want the read this statement on twitter and the suppression accusations. the correspondence between the f.b.i. and twitter show nothing more than examples of hour traditional long-standing and ongoing federal government private sector engagements. it is unfortunate that people are feeding the american public misinformation for the sole purpose of attempting to discredit the agency. what say you? >> what a really terrible statement by the f.b.i. nobody wants to fight the f.b.i. that's not a fun thing. you don't want to fight the c.i.a. the simple truth is if the twitter files had not been released by elon musk we all thought this was happening, now we know it was happening and suddenly they are pretending that everyone knew and it is standard practice and everything else. a better statement by them would have been this stuff has leaked

>> julie: once in a generation winter storm only adding to the chaos during the christmas travel rush. hundreds of flights have already been canceled at chicago's o'hare airport where we find mike tobin inside luckily. i think it is pretty cold outside. good morning, mike. >> it's not that cold yet, julie. one thing i can tell you as you look behind me it's not that big of a pile-up. you have people looks like a busy travel day but the tsa line is not backed up. if large part you don't have the big pile-up, airlines started emailing people last night letting them know that flights would be canceled. so far nationwide we look at upwards of 4,000 cancellations

out of chicago. chicago's o'hare airport you look at 405 flights canceled. midway 165. united we know of 93 flights canceled. american 78. southwest a whopping 579. that number just updated a short time ago from 459. delta 83 flight cancellations. the people coming through the airports are those people who are hoping to make it under the wire before the bad weather. >> over the next couple of days we'll be checking out the weather and seeing what's happening at the airports and also it is the holidays and even become a delayed let's say a day or so is a big deal if you are supposed to get home on the 22nd and it is the 23rd or 24th. fingers crossed that the weather doesn't impact everyone as much as it might depending what happens over the next 48 hours. >> stand in this line, stand in that line. we're stand in the line and missed our flight. >> coming here earlier but right

around america that work every day so hard. they do psas, education, they develop resources for schools, they make short films. they do whatever they can to hang billboards. let me just tell you one quick story, john, on what's happening with lauren's wish. a family in west, lauren died in 2020. her family, before she died, she asked her father to consider setting up a rehab center in west virginia because so many of her friends were addicted and dying from this poisonous substance. she ultimately died but then her father, michael and mother cheri set up a rehab center in a hotel. they raised money on their own. no help from the government. but this is happening all over america. so they have short-term triage type of addiction treatment and they have long-term care. these are the stories that the american public doesn't here. the government should be helping out more. instead of giving yu cranes billions of dollars maybe divert

some money to the mental health of our kids in schools as that's escalating through the roof. john there are people saying if you give that many money to ukraine you need to give money to other things as you mentioned, greg abbott is saying it needs to be spent on the border as well. we hear how deadly fentanyl is. just a couple of milligrams can be deadly. people say how much is that really? look at these two photographs. on one side of the screen here you go to see a pencil. it has just what looks like a few grains of fentanyl on it. on the other side of the screen you will see a penny and you can see the amount of fentanyl that can kill you in relation to the size of a penny. derrick, when you think about it, it is such a small amount that can kill people. these drug cartels are funneling into our country enough fentanyl to kill all of us ten times over. >> yes. that's why the dea just did a recent warning that they seized

over 50 million of these pills, these fake pills last year -- this year. they also say that 379 million deadly doses were taken off the streets. that's why the families against fentanyl have been pushing, john, so hard to declare fentanyl a weapons of mass destruction because we've never seen in the history of this country a substance coming into this country from another country killing our future generation like this. we've never had this. this is not your typical drug crisis, which we've had going on for a while. this is a substance that is made in these dirty, filthy labs in mexico, the chinese chemicals are coming in on a daily basis. by the way, john, i've said this so many times. another thing that nobody is talking about is the chinese criminals are helping out with the money laundering services. so they are providing the chemicals, the money laundering and the cartel business is booming as we're being invaded by 160 countries of migrants

now the terrorist group is revoking that promise, implementing, no surprise, a total ban on education for girls and women. trey yengst is live in the middle east bureau in jerusalem. what a difference a year makes, trey. >> john, absolutely. good morning. the taliban announced this week that women are no longer permitted to attend higher education. the decision is set to go into effect immediately and will be applied to the entire country of afghanistan. now, women staged protests today in the capital of kabul demanding access to universities and colleges. the demonstrations were disbursed by taliban fighters. >> once again the university is banned for women. we do not want to be eliminated. it is shameful the international community, the united nations and human rights choose to remain silent. >> since claiming control of afghanistan in august of 2021, the taliban has rolled back rights for women requiring hijabs in public and male escort at night. the decision to ban women from

higher education is drawing condemnation from the international community and other muslim majority countries like saudi arabia and turkey with the turkish foreign minister saying this. >> this banning of female students from attending universities is not islamic or human and we reject such a ban and we do not find it right. hopefully they'll give up on this decision as soon as possible. >> four months ago we spoke with top taliban officials in kabul and they said they would not ban women from higher education. they were lying, john. >> john: trey, how is any of this a surprise? we know who this group is, we know the rules they follow, strict sharia law. they hoodwinked this administration into believing things would be different. why would anybody believe them? >> that's exactly why we were pressing these officials in kabul not this year but after they took over in august of 2021. the taliban often will say one thing and then do something completely different. we've seen this when it comes to

women's rights. they said initially they would allow women to enter universities to study and continue their education. we went to a university in kabul and we watched as taliban fighters were beating back women who were trying to enter the university. this was just one example of many that we saw on the ground in afghanistan when the trail ban said they were a changed group, reformed version of their previous self. another example is the way they implement law in the country. they said they would have a judicial system that mirrored a more modern society. they're still executing people in public. this is the future of afghanistan. unfortunately so many of the civilians there are paying the highest price. those who are not able to leave following the u.s. withdrawal are stuck under taliban control. >> john: an old adage about lepers and spots that come to mind. yet we handed the country back over to them. trey, thank you. >> julie: florida governor ron desantis taking aim at woke

so they didn't have to worry about their mortgage going into the christmas season and spending the time and talking with them, it was a fantastic experience. i want to add one more thing. i went with another widow, lisa, who lost her husband, police officer paul in 2016. she had two young boys. still has two young boys but they are almost seven years older. she came with us to talk to officer's widow to say look, i made it through, i'm okay. you are going to be okay. you have support around you in the tunnel to towers family will always be there. of course they have the police department family there for support. we'll also be there for her. we don't just pay off their mortgages. we want them to know we're there for them and we love them. >> julie: the nypd is a family. they are brothers and sisters
