"the five." a once in a generation storm is wreaking havoc across the country. and his crippling christmas travel. almost every state is expected to be impacted by this brutal bomb cyclone.

over 1 million people are without power. from texas, to the east coast as bone chilling temperatures are kicking in. more than 200 millions americans are currently on no warnings or advisories. >> this massive winter storm is causing holiday travel chaos. transportation secretary pete pete says it is going to be days before this gets sorted out. >> yesterday, about 10% of flights were canceled. now of course that means 90% of flights were not canceled. but you know, for goes about 2% would consider that a lot, so 10% means just a lot of disruption for a lot of passengers. now it will getting back to normal but we are seeing again over the middle of the country that that extreme cold in the east that that wind and snow is coming. and is going to be rough or certainly, the next couple of days when it comes aviation. >> so far over 26,000 flights have been delayed, nearly 9,000 canceled since wednesday.

mike tobin is at o'hare airport in chicago at the latest. jaime. >> hello there judge, we do have a situation we have bodies piling up in the terminal as you do sometimes and it's a little less on the other side of security. because a lot of people who cannot get on their connecting flights but still as you mention, 27,000 flight delays when you start looking at the cancellations, by the major carriers american airlines, 364 flights canceled since midnight. delta come up to 303. southwest airlines 946. when you look at united, 291 plus flights that are being canceled up with the plus tick because the numbers keep going up. and domestically, we talk about the flight cancellation, only within the united states 4,918. almost 5,000. if you are one of the people who is making home and it's time for christmas without major delays, you're one of the lucky ones. >> we were scheduled to leave about 750 this morning, we got a text last night saying that they

rescheduled us. to haas then at 12:00 today. with a layover. >> were just try to figure out what's going on. >> we were originally meant to fly to toronto from london, england, last night and... our flight was canceled. >> my flight was canceled. waited in line for three hours, got rescheduled that i'm optimistic and i hope i get home in time to see the family. >> this pacific northwest was bombarded with freezing rain and what that cause was an icing over of all three runways at seattle-tacoma airport. so they are forced to shut down the entire airport for a time because it was harder to get that ice off the runway then it is snow. and it's got one runway open today they've been working throughout the day to clear that runway, and the alaska airlines and the main carry out a sierra canceling flights both in seattle, and out of portland. they do have a couple of flights going now, but things are operating a trickle and it really sees that the big impact that the rest of the country is jesse's bitter cold temperatures here in chicago and it is warmed

up to a balmy 1 degree with the windshield that feels like minus 17. judge. >> all right thank you so much mike. and parts of the country are seeing record drops in temperature and heavy snowfall. buffalo, new york, is under a state of american tea with blizzard conditions. fox is whether max going to aunt in hamburg, new york, which is just outside of buffalo. max how are you holding up? >> well, i'm cold and i'll tell you what. and i was standing along the shores of a very mangy lake erie all day long. massive waves have been crashing here, and we seen 14-218-foot swells. just incredible. it's like the ocean right now. some parts of handbrake have to be evacuated because there were concerns about flooding as well as other parts of the eastern shores of lake erie. now of course we are also dealing with a very heavy snowfall of up to 3 feet of snow fall and it's expected with the

storm. rest up for the national weather service more than 8 inches of fallen and buffalo niagara international airport. now at the airport, they had a wider condition earlier today with zero visibility. so they had to cancel all flights, and everything had to shut down and that is due to these very strong wind gust that we've been feeling throughout the day. and 72 mile-per-hour gus was reported at the airport, gus is up to 80 miles per hour. and they are expected, extremely gusty winds have led to power outages and tens of thousands of people who are currently without power all across the westin of new york. and then driving conditions have been very, very treacherous. here in buffalo, driving driving his band right now. they have been no travel advisory here in buffalo telling people to get off the roads. this is a place that is accustomed to winter storms, so there's telling you to stop driving in buffalo, you know it's serious back to you. >> you know what max, i went to school in buffalo and i know it very well i used to skate a lot there, was always knowing. but, tell us what is it like when it gets as cold as it is

right now? what is if you like to you? >> well, i last checked the temperature it was 2 degrees here, but early in the week i was over in fargo, north dakota, where the temperature was dropping down to negative 14 and even lower than that. and i will have to say, it is colder here in hamburg and that simply because of the spray that is being kicked up off of lake erie. it sprays onto you and then it freezes to you like a coating. and so, it is very rare cold along with that win. any concealed weapon of honor, 72 mile-per-hour just recorded earlier today just incredible to see that power of mother nature. >> indeed, she does have that power max and please take care of yourself. all right, let's go to ian oliveira from fox whether he is also tracking the storm as well. >> good evening yes, you saw the storm intensified, explosively through the overnight hours last hour, and max gordon is experiencing that in the eastern

shores of lake erie, but this is brett big impact style across the northeast. we saw this temperature drop over the last 12 hours or so in new york city. in about 30 degrees of fact in the last dollar, boston was 25 degrees warmer in new york city. that is an arctic cold front right in between us and them right now. we also saw, these huge wind gust and it leapt out of the battery in lower manhattan to the highest water height since this super storm sandy back in 2012. luckily it was nowhere near as intense but at that height, the highest receded about a decade that is what led to some of the flooding out a a and i will rock ways and farther east in long island but, what comes in after this rain and snow is this arctic chill. and it comes in fast with this wink us. the top 70 miles per hour so that's why we seen across the country more than a million customers without power, but it's even more dangerous about that is again this arctic air that is following. it would seem this temperature drop by tomorrow morning it'll

be about 45 degrees just here in new york city. that is not an experience that is new unique to new york city almost everybody across the central and eastern part of the country has experience that. now, the rain in the snow, that is gonna start to march up to the more north and east as you move out to them overnight hours tonight. the actual precipitation in the impact from that start the roundabout, but the cold is hanging around. the cold in the right on through christmas weekend and it is problematic because of these feels like temperatures for millions across the country will be way below zero. >> all right, and thank you so much, and please stay warm if you can. is like you on the five. >> is a very tough environment. but, part of the problem is that all everyone talks about politics all the time. it wasn't that we will be went to college which wasn't that long ago. and everyone kind of loosely new with the politics laid. but you had other stuff to talk about. whether pop's culture stuff relationships or whatever it is but now it is infiltrated -- and i feel like almost every aspect of our lives that's what makes it so much harder for people to express themselves. because use beaver to go party see a cool girl talk to her but now she's gonna say something like you know -- are you participating in expired the activity? and then it all comes on and it's a problem. and trump really was alone in the sand for a lot of people. even for some republicans who just couldn't get on board of this. it's not traditional conservativism to put it nicely but i think it's a real shame and i think it's important that people do spend time with folks who do not think the same as

them even if it makes you sure of your belief. so i hate this. >> judge on college campuses supposed to be a place where you're exchanging ideas and learning how to defend your own values and you can't do that if people's themselves. >> it started with berkeley being supposedly being the birthplace of free speech until, about six years ago when conservatives dared to go to berkeley to speak and then it was like you cannot speak, because we will bring down berkeley and smash, every window and every door. but the truth is, the kids are self-centering for good reason. they know they're going to be punished by their peers, they know they're going to be punished and not given good grades by the professors. and, i think they understand better than a lot of people think that it is not the place for dialogue. in that it requires that when someone goes to college that they really have a strong core and know who they are they gonna be swayed right into the nonsensical politically correct ways of thinking in the

political -- the only political ideology they are allowed to express. >> i spent some time on college campuses being a speaker being protested by rowdy of college students but i had questions from parents all the time of the how to prepare their conservative kids for school. you have lots of's conservative state think some of them have been to college and they been active on our conservatives. >> i want a lesson that when i pay for school going to help to its core market ascend into these woke schools because they professionalized indoctrinating your children and a very good at it and i can lose send them now and i hope i get it right later. when i think it's a point to note that all these professors are pretty liberal you don't have conservative professors on campus and they are concerned about being -- punished weathers through gates or canceled online or kicked out of college for what they say. and i think it's great because when you have a welcome informed conservative debating a teacher that could inspire other kids to say i'm with this guy not the teacher to great thing. but, i think if you look at the
