tv   The Five  FOX News  December 24, 2022 2:00am-3:00am PST

2:00 am
all right, that's it. that's a show from time to low interest. thank you for taking the galatea money. and jim, gurantee joe to veto. and you are studio audience. special report is next on tomsula and on behalf greg gutfeld . he loves you america. hello, everyone. >> i'm judge jeanine. pirro, along with jessica tarloff, sean duffy, katie pavlik and jimmy fallon. it is five o'clock in new york city and this is the five , a once in a generation storm wreaking havoc across the country and crippling christmas travel almost every state is expected to be impacted by this brutal bombsite, klown.
2:01 am
over a million people are without power from texas to the east coast as bone chilling temperatures kick in. more than two hundred million americans are currently under warnings or advisories. this massive winter storm is causing holiday travel chaos. transportation secretary buda jen says it is going to be days before this gets sorted out. >> yesterday, about 10% of flights canceled. now, of course, that means 90% of flights were not canceled, but, you know, if it goes above two percent, we consider that a lot. so 10% means just a lot of disruption for a lot of passengers now getting back to normal. but we're seeing, again, over the middle of the country that extreme cold and then the east that that wind and snow coming. it's going to be rough for certainly the next couple of days. when it comes to aviation. >> so far , over twenty six thousand flights have been delayed and nearly 9000 canceled since wednesday.
2:02 am
mike tobin is at o'hare airport in chicago with the latest. >> hi, mike . although a judge well, we don't have a situation where you've got bodies piling up in the terminal as you do. sometimes it's a little worse on the other side of security because you have a lot of people who couldn't get on their connecting flights. but still, as you mentioned, twenty seven thousand flight delays. when you start looking at the cancelations by the major carriers, american airlines, three hundred sixty four flights canceled since midnight. delta, three hundred three southwest airlines, nine hundred forty six . when you look at united to one hundred and ninety one plus flights that are canceled, we put the plus air because the numbers just keep going up domestically. when you talk about the flight cancelations only within the united states , four thousand nine hundred eighteen, almost 5000. if you're one of the people who's making it home in time for christmas without major delays, you're one of the lucky ones. >> we were scheduled to leave out about 750 this morning. we got a text last night saying
2:03 am
they rescheduled us to austin at 12 o'clock today with a layover. we're just trying to figure out what's going on . we were originally meant to fly to toronto from london, england, last night. and our flight was canceled and my flight was canceled, waited in a line for three hours, got rescheduled. and now i'm optimistic and i'm hoping to get to phoenix and do the family. >> the pacific northwest was bombarded with freezing rain and what that caused was an icing over all three runways at seattle tacoma airport. so there were forced to shut down the entire airport for a time because it's harder to get that ice off the runway than it is snow. they got one runway open earlier today. they've been working throughout the day to clear the runways. we know that alaska airlines, the main carrier out of seattle, tacoma, canceled flights both in seattle and out of portland. they do have a couple of flights going now, but things are operating at a trickle. it really seems that big impact throughout the rest of the country is just these bitter cold temperatures here
2:04 am
in chicago. it's warmed up to a balmy one degree with a wind chill that feels like minus 17 judge. >> all right. thanks so much, mike . and parts of the country seeing record drops in temperature and heavy snowfall. buffalo, new york , is under a state of emergency with blizzard conditions. foxes weather. max gordon is in hamburg, new york , which is just outside of buffalo. max, how are you holding up? >> well, i'm cold. i'll tell you. i'm standing along the shores of a very angry lake. all day long. massive waves have been crashing here and we've seen 14 to 18 foot swells. it's just incredible. it's like the ocean right now. some parts of hamburg had to be evacuated because there were concerns about flooding as well as other parts of the eastern shores of lake erie. now, of course, we're also dealing with very heavy snowfall, up to three feet of snowfall is expected with this
2:05 am
storm . at last update from the national weather service, more eight inches has fallen at buffalo niagara international airport now at the airport. they had whiteout conditions earlier today. zero visibility. so they had to cancel all flights, everything had to shut down. now, that's due to these very strong wind gusts we've been feeling throughout the day. seventy two mile per hour gust was recorded at the airport, gusts of up to 80 miles per hour. are expected. extremely gusty winds that have led to power outages. tens of thousands of people currently without power, all across western new york . and then driving conditions have been very, very treacherous here in buffalo while driving is banned right now, they have a no travel advisory here in buffalo telling people to get off the roads. this is a place that's accustomed to winter storms. so they're telling you to stop driving in buffalo. you know it's serious. back to you. well, you know what, max? i went to school in buffalo. i know it very well. i used to scale up there. it was always snowing. but but tell what is it like
2:06 am
when it gets as cold as it is right now? what does it feel like to you? >> well, at last check, the temperature was at two degrees here. now, earlier in the week, i was over in fargo, north dakota, where the temperature was dropping down to the negative 14 , even lower than that, i have to say, it is colder here in hamburg that simply because of the spray that's being kicked up off of lake erie, it's raised here. and then it freezes to you like a i guess like a coating. and so it is very, very cold. along with that wind. you can whipping around 70 to mile per hour gusts recorded earlier today. >> just incredible to see the power of mother nature. oh, indeed. she does have that power. max, take care of yourself. yes. all right. let's go to ian oliver from fox weather. he's tracking this storm . >> well, good evening. you saw this storm intensify explosively through the overnight hours last. max gordon is experiencing that
2:07 am
on the eastern shores of lake erie. right now. this has brought big impacts, though, across the northeast. we saw this temperature drop over the last 12 hours or so in new york city, about 30 degrees. in fact, in the last hour, boston in was twenty five degrees warmer than new york city. that's an arctic cold front right in between us and them right now. we also saw these huge wind gusts. it led down at the battery in lower manhattan to the highest water height since superstorm sandy back in 2012. thankfully, nowhere near as intense. but that height, the highest we've seen in about a decade. that's what led to some of the flooding out in the rockaways and farther east long island. but what comes in after this rain and snow is this arctic chill. and it comes in fast with these wind gusts that have topped 70 miles per hour. that's why we've seen across the country more than a million customers without power. but what's even more dangerous about that is , again, this arctic air that follows. we've seen this temperature drop by tomorrow morning.
2:08 am
it will be about 45 degrees just here in new york city. but that's not an experience that's unique to new york city. almost everybody across central and eastern part of the country has experienced that. now, the rain in the snow that's going to start to march off to the north and east as we move on through the overnight hours tonight. the actual precipitation, the impacts from that start to throttle back . but the cold hangs around the cold and the lake effect snow right on through christmas weekend. and it is problematic because of these feels like temperatures that for millions across the country will be way below zero. >> all right, ian , thank you so much. and stay warm if you can. >> and all right. i mean, let's talk. but i'll start with you, jessica. i mean, you know, they talk about the rain and snow, but then the freezing weather comes afterwards. so it's got to be all ice on the black black ice. right. for all these people who have switched it up and said, okay, my flight got canceled or delayed forever, let me drive . and we're actually the heat
2:09 am
is out in our building right now. is it? is it gets restored and then it goes out. i'm sure it will be fine. but we're now we were going to host christmas on sunday, but now we're driving to my sister in law's house in new jersey because of this heat problem, because. right. you shouldn't invite people over and say, you know, why don't you have some turkey in 19 degree weather? wow. so but i'm a little scared about the ice. yeah. driving. you do what you have to do and all solely in new jersey drivers. >> i have a great reputation. i'm sure all they show on . what are you doing with your eight kids? nine kids. so, yeah, i'm 19. so i'm in new jersey now, staying at home. but my home, tony hayward, it was minus 14 this morning. but the wind chill much colder than that. they had two feet of snow. i mean, so i know we think about the east coast and it gets rain and freezes and it's slippery. but the rest of the country, so much snow and so very cold, very challenging. yeah, it's not as bad for us . yeah. but the good news is there are severe linings to the snow out west because a lot of the rocky mountain west is getting tons of snow.
2:10 am
the skiers are very happy. they'll be skiing in negative degrees, i'm sure, because they love it. also, i'm glad to see that gouta judges that work during a crisis. this is good that he actually showed up today. i'm curious whether the weather correspondents prefer covering a hurricane in florida or going to lake erie when negative whatever be the hurricane? well, i mean, i don't know. i take florida because the chances of it warming up are good. >> excellent. go ahead. that's a good lesson there about new seniority. maxus standing in a frozen lake tobins like i'm here at the airport chilliest, having a two for one . it's a mess. and it is just right outside. okay, where is this going to affect your travel? well, i do have to get to ohio, driving through new jersey, which is the only state where you can see some driving. yeah. you got to jersey, the only state you can see someone high, a cop like. speed it up, buddy. you don't have all day. you know what lane you're in. yes, but i feel bad for the rest of the country because that cold is brutal here in new york . we're actually thrilled because now you can smell the city. >> so bring it on , lower that
2:11 am
temp a bit while you're getting into the holiday spirit. >> these are sure to check out the west point holiday show airing tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. eastern. and coming up, president biden tries to spread christmas cheer after calling half the country a danger to democracy. >> christmas day will soon be here and everybody's full hanging around the mistletoe with you. well, wait all year long now. the ministry of changed the world forever. it's one thing to read about the life of , but to make the story of truly come alive. >> i knew i had to see it for myself. as we go on this journey, we're joined by experts along the way really know this land. the greatest story ever told starts right here. the life of god. with us streaming out only on

learn about fake medicine on social media. and if an online pharmacy is safe to turn down low, let it snow. let it snow. let it snow. when we finally kiss good night, oh, all right. >> mr. unity is back. just in case you missed him, president biden delivering a christmas message from the white house, calling for peace and clearly is concerned that america has become too divided. >> take a look. >> i sincerely hope this hollaway this holiday season will drain the poison that infected our politics. has set us against one another . i hope this christmas season marks a fresh start for our nation because there's so much that unites us as americans, so much more that unites us than divides us . our politics has gotten so
2:17 am
angry, so mean, so partisan and too often we see each other as enemies, not as neighbors, as democrats. republicans, not as fellow americans would become too divided. >> but biden must have forgotten the past year where he fueled activism by calling republicans a threat to democracy. >> this ain't your father's republican party. this is a major party. now, let me tell you about this ultra mega agenda. it's extreme as most major things are, because this mega crowd is really the most extreme political organization that's existed in american history. magary republicans don't just threaten our personal rights and economic security. >> they're a threat to our very democracy. the extreme set of magarey republicans has chosen to go backwards, full of anger, violence, division. >> judge, this is unbelievable that the president is coming out with a christmas message, which, by the way, i'm all about christmas messages. but i mean, the fact that he's talking about draining the poison hasn't joe biden
2:18 am
been the poison in politics over the last two years? >> you know, i think that the american people were so optimistic when he came into office that he would be the unifier. he would be if he called himself the adult in the room. the truth is that the hypocrisy in this is so potent. it is so rich, you know, for a man who is talking about this phony unity rhetoric, now, i mean, he called half of americans the magor republican who voted for donald trump, who is seventy three . seventy four million workstream ,we're semi fascist. were the people who are creating this threat to democracy. i mean, he's calling half of america that. but he he says that we live in the lies in the shadow of lies that we don't know the light of truth. he's almost like he's this like somebody at a pulpit who's telling us that you are condemned for life. and he wants a little kindness. you know what, mr. president ? if you want some kindness,
2:19 am
maybe you ought to extend it to those people who are coming to the border, who are dying on the way in, freezing, sleeping on the streets, don't have a blanket. you're letting them in with the open borders. you're fighting to keep the borders open, fighting in the supreme court fighting in arizona. so they take those containers down and he talks about draining the poison. he's the one who sets us against each other. he's the one who's doing this. and he says fellow human beings need to be treated with dignity. well, how about you treat us with dignity? it's just it's just too rich. and the unvaccinated are stupid and so bs. >> right. and what it means, such as it's interesting. i want to go to you on this. i mean, are we being too mean at christmas? should we give him that olive branch to go? okay, mr. president , you're going to change your ways over the next two years. >> merry christmas and let bygones be bygones. i mean, sure, it would be nice ,but partizans are partizans and every president is going to make a christmas address that sounds like that. right. or they should. and every president wants to win elections.
2:20 am
and right now you're winning elections by isolating a group on the other side. and it's not as broad as you're making out to be. he doesn't actually think that you're a threat to the republic. he's talking about people who deny election results. kari lake and steve bannon are still walking around saying that she's the governor elect. >> that's true. karine jean-pierre have a job. she denied the twenty sixteen election stolen. i think it's pretty. everyone is talking about people who came to the capitol on january 6th. ran around there. >> and we all know so far he did. he was like, i'm talking he clarified so many times, bored me. by the end, he was dividing the country. now is like we're all and love everybody at christmas. and i think that that is joseph klein and . >> but the mess. but, katie, i want to go to on this because i think i'm sure i'm shutting down. we don't have a whole lot of time. merry christmas. happy, happy, happy hanukkah. my thought is that as joe biden sees on january 3rd, republicans are going to take over the congress. he's like, well, listen, they might investigate me
2:21 am
and hunton, our shady business dealings. >> maybe i have to make peace before they take over. i think it sounds a lot like he's running in twenty , twenty four . we know that he's discussing this with his family over the christmas holiday. i actually agree with jessica. i wish that presidents would just make statements about christmas and the season and what christmas or hanukkah or whatever holiday is all about rather than injecting the politics into it and being dishonest about, well, we have poisoned our politics and we should treat everybody with respect. that is what he ran on in 2020. it was a lie. it's not true, is one of the most divisive presidents we've had in modern history. he did say that for the vaccine ,we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death that was a lie. but politics is a blood sport, so just keep the christmas message about christmas. talk about that and then be honest about the fact that it's tough to deal with republicans, democrats, and they're very divided interests in this country, depending on which party. >> do you agree with that, jessica? i do. i think we're echoing the same sentiment about this. and i people should just call
2:22 am
a spade a spade and know the difference between a christmas message and a speech that you're making when you're heading into a hotly contested midterms. they're going to be vastly different than this was both. >> right. he was talking politics. he was saying, take politics out of your christmas dinner. is not talking about politics. he's not saying like. oh, and by the way, i hate mitch mcconnell. he just said, go have a turkey. and he poisons been injected into our politics. he has nothing to do with that. and the democrats don't have anything to do with that. when they absolutely do based on their rhetoric and things that joe biden, jimmy fallon, your take. >> i mean, if you wanted to end the divisiveness in politics, this was a year where you would just cut joe biden's mic because he did say a lot of divisive things. i actually don't think he hates mitch mcconnell. i know you were kidding, but mitch mcconnell's outspending anybody in the democratic party right now. it really is our supreme court. >> did he. well, they . but biden is biden. the tony clifton of politics. there was an old andy kaufman character. he would come on stage as his alter ego and he'd be like, all right, folks, this is a no smoking club before the show starts. >> then he would light a cigar and do his act. and i'd be like, the nerve of
2:23 am
this guy. and that's biden. he's like, all right, we need unity. but the border agents are whipping haitian migrants. not true pandemic of the unvaccinated. it's jim crow. on steroids in georgia. and that's the thing. joe biden lecturing us on unity is like johnny depp and amber heard lecturing us on civility. okay, no buying it. even if they promise to forgive the loan down the road. no, no one is better. i totally agree with that. all right. good discussion ahead. it's not just walking autonation we have to worry about. conservative students are now censoring themselves. >> oh, my goodness. i can't see she had died another that baby boy would see the world one day. what you think is every year they will go into the studio, sing one take and leave. >> and it would be a hit song. >> she was that rihanna ? she was that beyonce. that she was the person who opened the doors.
2:24 am
for now, when i met a raw talent with exquisite talent level was absolutely mind blowing. her drug abuse was out of control. >> i mean, insecure, believe him. >> and so we watched her fall apart. so we embarked on a comeback tour. >> nobody thought that was a good idea, along with the singer, whitney houston has died at powerhouse of the revolution. she really had a gift from god . she didn't have to be your friend. you connected through her music. get 15%. oh, yearly plans. >> there's a new victim of identity theft every three seconds. checking your credit score or bank statements may not be enough to alert you. that's because identity threats appear in more places. than you realize, making it dangerously easy to become a victim. someone got my social security number, made a driver's license
2:25 am
and try to buy a car in my name. that was really devastating. frightened because i had no control. identity thieves can use your information to open loans, transfer home titles, even commit crimes. someone use my information to open a bank accounts in my name. it was terrifying not knowing what was out there and what had been open. but protecting your identity can be easy with lifelock, a leader in identity theft protection. lifelock monitors for threats to your identity, especially ones you may miss by simply checking your accounts or credit. there's an issue lifelock will alert. there is a big yes button and there was a big nobut. so i clicked and that's not me and my took it from there. and if you're a victim, you're dedicated. u.s. based restoration specialist will work to fix it. if something happens, you have somebody fighting for you. i don't know what i would have done without my respiration specialist. all players backed by life, lots million dollar protection package, including reimbursement for stolen funds,

2:27 am
what my breaking point is . style five . that's what i'm here to find out. this is not an adventure race. can't call your agent. no one's coming to save you. i've become a little soft. i still have that fire . this is a real experience. a little bit more belief in self than you did for some special forces world's toughest test premieres january 4th on fox fifteens. winning i got goal. must be it to me. >> live in education is having a chilling effect on free speech. >> a good chunk of conservative college students say they self censor their views inside
2:28 am
and outside the classroom out of fear of damaging their reputation. 63% of students overall fear speaking their minds could have a damaging impact. and forty two percent of conservative students report that they often feel uncomfortable speaking freely. and just this week, stanford tries to eliminate harmful language by banning offensive words like american. but we have an amazing update on that. the woke college is walking back idiotic speech code and updating their website with quote to be very clear , not only is the use of the term american not banned at stanford, it is absolutely welcomed. so, jessica, i think actually conservatives are hiding their political perspectives on college campuses, if they're not politically involved, is actually not something new . what is new is it's one thing to write a paper from a different perspective in a class. are you a professor if you're having to do that outside of the classroom among your peers, that's a different thing. i could imagine it being a very tough environment to do that
2:29 am
to just even with its five . it's a very tough environment. no, part of the problem is also that everyone just talks about politics all the time. it wasn't that way even when we went to college, which wasn't long ago, you know, everyone kind of loosely knew where your politics lay , but you had other stuff to talk about, whether pop culture stuff or whatever it is , and now it's infiltrated. i feel like almost every aspect of our lives. and that's what makes it so much harder for people to be able to express themselves. so, yes, we all go to a party girl. you have to talk to her now. she's going to say something like, you. are you participating in x, y or z activity? and then it all comes out and it's a problem. trump really was a line in the sand for a lot for a lot of people and even for some republicans who just couldn't get on board with this. right. it's not a traditional conservative to put it nicely. i think it's a real shame and i think it's important that people do spend time with folks who don't think the same as them, even if makes you sure
2:30 am
of your beliefs. so i hate this drudge isn't on college campuses supposed to be a place of exchanging ideas, debating, learning how to defend your own values? you can't do that if very censoring themselves. >> yeah, well, you know, it started with berkeley being supposedly the birthplace of free speech. until about six years ago when conservatives dared to go to berkeley to speak. and then it was like, you cannot speak. we will burn down berkeley and we will smash every every every window, every door. but the truth is that the kids are self censoring for good reasons. they know that they're going to be punished by their peers. they know they're going to be punished and not given good grades by their professors. and i think they understand better than a lot of people think that it's not the place for dialog and it requires when someone goes to college, that they have a really strong moral core and know who they are. they're going to be swayed right into the nonsensical politically correct way of
2:31 am
thinking and the political the only political ideology that you're allowed to express. and i've spent some time on college campuses to speak, are being protested by rowdy college students. but i get questions from parents all the time about how to prepare their conservative kids for school. you have lots of conservative kids. some of them have been through college and they've been active as conservatives on their campuses. >> well, i learned the lesson that when i pay for school, i'm going to help pick the school my kids go to. i'm not going to send them to these schools. because they professionalized indoctrinating your children and they're very good at it. and i can lose my own kids, so i try to send them. >> now, i have so many kids, i can get it wrong and then get it right. but i think it's important to note that all these professors are very liberal. you don't have conservative professors on campus. and judge, you're right, they're concerned about being punished, whether it's their grades that could be you canceled online, they could be kicked out of college for what they say. >> and i think it's great when you a well-informed young conservative debating a teacher that can inspire other kids to go, hey, really good point. i'm with this guy, not the teacher. that's a great thing. but i mean, i think if you look
2:32 am
at a threat to democracy, it's these universities that are a threat to democracy. >> 62% of college students think it's acceptable to shut down a speaker by yelling at them. 20% think that they can use violence to shut down speech. this is crazy town for all of us who used to go to school back 10, 20 , 30 years ago. >> oh, that's like the college campus atmosphere as spilled out into all sectors of society. gemba as the comedian. yes, the table. we say this campus is the worst place for comedians to go because everybody is so offended. >> this is the irony. and i don't mean to make this all about me or my stand comedy career, but you can watch on fox is all american new year under the thirty first, but the most seminal comedy special of my youth was called carlin on campus and george carlin recorded an hour special with a series of universities because it was so risque at the time. you could only say stuff like this at colleges. so we've devolved that much in terms of colleges being bastions of free speech. carlin on campus today would be called carlin on fire
2:33 am
because they would burn down the whole university as they do to guys like you. and i'm so amazed to add to that that we're putting such an emphasis on words in places like stanford, where they have so many. i mean, you can't walk down the street in california without getting attacked by a homeless person or as they call them in stanford, a free range people. but the point is , we're fighting the wrong battles. that's the point. the jokes are not violent. speech is not violence. i'm an ex cab driver. you never got punched in the head and said, thank god that wasn't a joke. >> you know what i mean? and that's what we're getting wrong now. all right. well, up next, our debates over burning christmas questions. >> should you put up a real tree or a fake tree? please come home for christmas. please come home. if not, no christmas than my new year. i the way you groom is about to change forever. introducing micro touch, titanium trim, the total body
2:34 am
