5:03 am
griff: our reindeer are training to help santa some day. that's their life goal. todd: nod this year because they're here with us but maybe next year. griff: this christmas eve update we have a once in a lifetime winter storm. 46 car pileup and three dead in the crash in ohio. the intense winter weather bringing frigid temperatures and hurricane-force winds to parts of the country. todd: 200 million americans remain under winter warnings or advisories and 1 million customers without power. parts of the midwest even colder than mars, that arctic sea smoke from lake michigan pushing into chicago as the air temperature hovers around zero there. carley: already today, nearly 7500 flight delays and over 3,000 cancellations and the remnants of the storm expect to stick around into next week. fox weather correspondent robert

frontier and the app never notified me and sat an extra hour and then security notified me and now i'm going to newark because it's the only flights because la guardia is booked. reporter: a mess and here in atlanta, we have housing centers at capacity. listen to this quote, we're at capacity as far as cots are concerned. however, we will never turn anyone away and we'll continue to build capacity to ensure our residents are experiencing homelessness, have a safe and warm place to stay during this extremely cold weather. you know, that's the case really in all these cities up north and even here in the atl. guys, yesterday i was on lake michigan and we look at this video of the arctic sea smoke that i shot freezing cold temperatures there let me
5:06 am
explain some of the phenomena happening and lake michigan temporal integrations at 40 degrees fahrenheit and temps in chicago were negative eight and windchill 35 and 40 below. that creates a hot tub effect and, you know, with the winds kicking up, it's kind of a fog or an arctic sea smoke on lake michigan and other bodies of water. scenes being created because of the air mass and blank oated and most of the country unfortunately people have died and i can tell you here in georgia, we are looking at over 30,000 power outages still in places like the buffalo area, metro area, some of the areas completely powered with snow and actually correspondent max gordon last night had to sleep in his vehicle because the hotel he was in shut down just nasty

situations, but here in the south sunny skies for today, christmas eve as the temps go into the 20s, and we have not seen temperatures like this in nearly ten years and we hope that it's just continuing to get warm because guess what, next weekend, new year's eve weekend could be almost 70 degrees here in the atl, guys. carley: that is crazy. robert ray, stay safe, try and stay warm, get back in that truck. thank you for showing us those images took into consideration especially out of chicago -- too especially out of chicago with the sea smoke. i've never seen anything like that. that. griff: i'll take 70 degrees. carley: yesterday i went to bed at 57 degrees and woke up and it was 12. todd: i iced my driveway in the 47 degree weather in anticipation of the huge weather drop while i slept. carley: something affecting a specific part of the country is the border and yesterday cvp released the november border numbers.
5:08 am
they held off on releasing them until the friday before christmas, which is very notable, and showed a record breaking 233,740 border encounters, that's much more than the number of border encounters this time last year or november 2021. bill melugin has a tweet on this saying reminder, these numbers don't include known got aways and cvp sources tell us at least 73,000 known got aways in the month of november alone. these are people who are detected or seen but no manpower to get them for capture. griff: yeah, a friday night dump. i was talking with plow yen and we cover -- melugin and he and i cover the border a complete we got the numbers and started talking about them. there's been more than 205,000 known got iowa hawkeyes ways meaning the -- got aways meaning the border patrol agents saw them and couldn't bring them
5:09 am
into custody either on camera or a person. you add that to this record november, 233,000 but as earlier in the week, i got -- my cvp sources gave me total number of migrating encounters of this fiscal year beginning october 1, 85 days till today more than 575,000. add to that the 205,000 got aways and not too much math here early on christmas eve morning, but that is the equivalent of more than the populations of pittsburgh and buffalo combined. in just 85 days coming across the border. when you hear the white house karine jean-pierre saying border is not open and the numbers stand in stark contrast of that statement and you hear so many others that have been in this business like tom homan,
5:10 am
former acting ice director and said why he thinks cvp waited to dump this number. >> this time i think the reason they waited so long to dump the numbers because of the omnibus bill. they did not want the numbers released before the bill. it didn't prove effective because too many republicans voted for the omnibus, but i think that's one of the reasons because if these numbers would have come out maybe a few more congressmen or senators stepped up and said we can no longer take these and a record breaking month and we need to do something about border security and we know how it turned out and omnibus came out with zero money for border security. we're in the middle of the biggest historic crisis. going down to the southwest boarder and doing their terrible crisis and national security crisis and comes down to making a difference, they vote for a bill and give nothing to it. todd: i talk to --
5:11 am
griff: i talk to tom almost every day and he points out where we're sitting just a few months, three months into the new fiscal year, we're on a unprecedented crisis trajectory of where we're headed, 2.4 million last year and never seen anything like that and headed for way more november, 233,000 official numbers there. that's way higher than it ever is because of the season that's usually the slowest, todd. todd: coming to the got aways, i'm sure there's nice people in the groups but what are the chances that every single one of the individuals are signing up to be a priest or nun? slim or none. there's a lot of criminals and spreading themselves outs through the homeland and putting an extra burden on law enforcement when the individuals presumably commit another crime and recidivism is something criminals do. to your point, griff, we heard dhs come out and say worst case
5:12 am
scenario, we could see 6 million new migrants this fiscal year. think about that. i mentioned the impact on law enforcement but what about the rest of the infrastructure that's already overburdened in our country? our roads, our schools, our social services and quite frankly most important our hospitals, our hospitals are being slammed having to care for every single one of these individuals that doesn't pay taxes and that is no more sure -- no more certain than what's happening in el paso. listen to dr. robert, the yuma regional medical center and says his hospital is struggling to serve its community, listen. >> we provide the same level of care to migrants as we do to the residents of our community. they'll get the same quality and same everything. the individuals that are coming in that are migrants, you know, people always think they're coming in with coughs and colds but that's not really the case. we have individuals coming n in that need dialysis and heart surgery. there's some traumatic injuries
5:13 am
but a lot of it though interestingly is really complications of chronic disease that have been previously uncared for. there's no payer source for those individuals. we've contacted our state government through our state -- through our senators. we've contacted the federal government and there is -- everybody's sympathetic and they lend a listening ear, but nobody is offering a payer source for these individuals. carley: there's many unintended consequences of the border crisis and that's one and another is cvp seized over 1 million fentanyl pills in nogalis, arizona, at the port of entry in two dais. it's fascinating the moves the biden administration made this week making sure title 42 is kept in place and forcing arizona to take down makeshift border barrier and many say biden is not doing anything when
5:14 am
it comes to the border crisis. they are but all the moves are exacerbating the issue and they're making it worse. griff: there's nothing in the omnibus to try and get under control. you mention by the way who's coming across the border, it's important to point out 98 individuals in fiscal year 2022 last year that hit the terror screening data base and nearly four times the previous five years combined so who knows what we're headed for right now. todd: scary, griff. griff: turning to headlines with fox news alert. one is dead and another grazed by a bullet in a shooting at the mall of america in minnesota yesterday. the suspect reportedly opening fire after an altercation between two groups killing a 19-year-old man. the shooter has not been arrested, but police secured the famous mall and lifted the lockdown late last night. walgreens store in new york city is locking up its ice cream to try and stop scripters and it's that bad. a clerk at the store confirming to fox news digital says "it has

addressed in the bill so from the process and the substance, there's a will the of strong opposition by myself and a bunch of my colleagues and last i would add, i want to give a shoutout that the congressman from north carolina called dan bishop. i'd encourage people to go to his twitter account because he lists out a product of a lot of research after reading through over 4,000 pages and finding individual items that shouldn't have been in the bill. griff: lyrics that was my question, have you read all the pages? clearly dan bishop did and good on him and did you get a chance to read it and what stands out as the most egregious to you? >> so first off most egregious is the overall size of the bill, not just with the amount of pages but $1.7 trillion. you have the individual earmarks, individual priorities of members of congress. it's amazing how many people are renaming buildings after themselves. and i just would encourage

people to check out dan's account because, you know, you can read about the funding for -- that's going towards salmon that makes you scratch your head and say, well, is this a proper way to be spending federal tax dollars through congress? or maybe we should be more fiscally responsible. griff: congressman, i got to get your take on one other story and that is you nearly became the next governor of new york and now we learn that the new york legislature gave itself a $32,000 raise despite crime spiking and migrant crisis. now governor hochul has to decide whether or not she'll sign this thing or not. you can see they'd now make if passed, $142,000 and the highest of any state legislature in the country. >> yeah, that should be vetoed in a heart beat. you're going back to albany into a special session just before christmas. what stockings are you going to be stuffing? they choose to solely stuff their own and take money out of yours in order to be able to stuff their own.

what they should be doing is overhauling cashless bail and passing term limits and doing more to tackle the migrant crisis that has come to new york and new york city. there's so much more that should be done to actually represent new yorkers but instead they're just out there representing themselves. it's pretty outrageous, a $32,000 pay raise just in time for their own christmas. griff: how about that? congressman lee zeldin, thank you for taking time and we'll see in governor hochul decides to sign it. thank you, sir. >> thanks, griff. griff: frank sill serviceer is e celebrating the tunnel to tower life changing donations helping families of fallen first responders. hey, frank. ♪
