pile-ups. at least 12 people have died so far because of the his oric winter weather. the intense weather bringing frigid temperatures and hurricane-portion winds to parts of the country. griff: yeah. 200 million americans remain under winter weather warnings or advisories, more than 1 million customers are without power as much as the country faces single-digit temperatures. participants of the middle -- parts of the midwest are even colder than mars. pushing into chicago as the hair temperature hovers around 0. todd: more than 8,000 flights already delayed so far morning with more than 3500 cancellations. hose numbers expected to increase throughout the morning. the remnants of the storm are expected to stick around into next week. fox weather correspondent robert ray on the ground in georgia with the very latest. robert. >> reporter: good morning from the northeastern suburbs, sitting around 7 degrees with the wind it feels like it's about -8 or 9 degrees.

merry christmas to you and everyone, and i hope that you're not trying to travel the right now, because as you mentioned those airports. let's listen to one man's journey from laguardia to atlanta. >> i went to the gate, and they didn't notify my app. i was doing frontier, the flight got canceled. so i sat there an extra hour, security told me it got canceled. then my other flight from frontier got canceled. now i'm going to newark because it's the only flights i can get. laguardia's weeked. -- booked. >> reporter: just a mess. listen to this quote, we are at capacity as far as cots are concerned; however, we will never turn anyone away. we'll continue to build capacity to insure our residents experiencing homelessness have a safe and warm place to stay during this extremely cold weather. and that is the an understatement, saying it's cold. i traveled from chicago to atlanta yesterday, experienced

my own travel woes. but look at lake michigan. look at that arctic sea smoke going over. the temperature of lake michigan hovering at 40 degrees. the air temperature below 0, and you get a a hot tub effect creating this -- [inaudible] mother nature look. and that's what we're seeing all across parts of the middle west on bodies of water as americans are trying to experience this holiday weekend with as much joy as possible. but with these frigid temperatures, very difficult. as you reported, there have been deaths, unfortunately. in the state of georgia, we still have thousands without power. meanwhile, there will be people across the midwest and up into the north east trying to just get out and do last minute shopping including myself. and to think, next week here in the atlanta metro area, 70 degrees moving into the new year, guys.

griff: robert, i'm from the south, my daughter dose to school in georgia -- goes to school in georgia, and i always am fascinated by how they freak out when it gets cold down there. have you seen people out will that hi the world may be ending, it's so cold there? [laughter] >> reporter: yes. my own family, for that matter. we originally hail from the midwest, but i got home last night, and my daughters, four daughters, were absolutely just hovered on the couch freezing. and my photographer if behind the lens is doing a great job today is from here, said he's never experienced cold like. [laughter] but, you know, the funny thing is less than 10 years ago, it was this cold. but the issue issue is with the wind chills. that takes it to a different level. carley: yeah, that's true. it's not the temperature that matters, it's the feels-like temperature, and the feels-like temperature in georgia is -8 right now. >> reporter: i know. and that's the issue going into christmas eve. thankfully, we'll be in the

20s with realtime temps later today. and by the way, your daughter goes to the university of georgia, go, dogs -- griff: that isn't cold, because they're red hot, those bulldogs. todd: they're going to do it. and to my point -- to your point, my best friend, we used to shovel snow when we were kids. now he's, how are we going to handle it? what a baby. griff: they're not used to it, literally it gets to 60 degrees in south florida, they're putting on north face jackets. robert ray said good news is it'll soon be only 20. carley: all right. the 1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill is heading to president biden's desk after passing the house yesterday. todd: the bill includes plenty of controversial items with huge, huge price tags as some lawmakers ring the alarm on

careless spending. griff: alexandria hoff joining us live from washington with more. merry christmas eve. >> reporter: yeah, this bill funds the government through september '23, but it's getting criticism from both sides for this last minute holiday push on something as large as this. >> it appears the season of giving will line the pockets of democrats' special interests and stick the hard working americans with the tab. this is a monstrosity. it is one of most shameful acts i've ever seen in body. the appropriations process has failed the american public. >> reporter: all right. so about half of the $1.7 trillion goes to defense funding, domestic programs and close to 45 million for military and humanitarian aid to ukraine. it now heads to the president's desk. here's republican congressman chip roy. >> everything the american people is watching right now is a complete sham. it's a fraud. and we're spending money we don't have.

go home and sell your project, go home and talk about all the pork you're bringing home, but you're destroying the united states of america. >> reporter: this bill passed the house 225-201 with 9 republicans voting in favor of it. only 1 democrat voted no, congresswoman alexandria ocasio-cortez who added spending provisions to the bill only to not support it. in a statement she wrote: i campaigned on the promise to my constituents to oppose additional funding for i.c.e. and dhs particularly in the absence of long overdue immigration reform. for that reason as well as the dramatic increase in defense spending, i voted no today on today's omnibus bill. democrat house majority leader ernie hoyer, he blame -- steny hoyer, he blamed the senate for failing to pass any spending bills earlier in the year, forcing this christmas rush. >> the senate had not passed a single appropriation bill. that ought to be unacceptable

for the 535 of us who have been sent here to represent the american people in a responsible way. this sweeping package is anything but garbage. >> reporter: yeah, so a whole lot crammed in last minute to something very, very big. hoyer also questioned how many members would be there in person to fulfill their duty, and it turns out 230 house members voted by proxy, something they're only supposed to do if they're sick with covid. republicans say that policy's clearly being abused and vow to do away with it when the party takes control next month. or. carley: to say the least. alex, thank you for that reporting. with we appreciate it. and i just can't believe this process. it's $2 trillion worth of spending. this is our money. this bill was revealed on tuesday, it's 4,000 pages long. nobody knows exactly what's in if it because it's just too long to read. three times the size of the bible. so it's the length of three

bibles, that's how long it is. and you know that come january or february somebody's going to reveal something and go, oh, my you know, this is huge, it's already passed, and none of us knew about it. griff: one guy did. one of our 535 members of -- dan bishop, lee zeldin told us about this in a previous hour to go to dan bishop's twitter, rep dan bishop, and he says our staff read all of it, and he found out a lot of different things. for instance, the word salmon, like fish, appears 48 times in the bill. some 31 million for salmon-related things. and one of the things that i already knew was in here that his office is pointing out is the $410 million for border security not here in the u.s., but, rather, me egypt, in jordan, in lebanon. middle eastern countries. their borders, not ours. carley: and $3 million for a

universal hip-hop museum in the bronx. todd: you gotta have it. senator rand paul yesterday on the fiction ifal seinfeldian holiday where you air your grievances and list all the ways people have disappointed you, came out with his list of the most outrageous things. about $119,000 to study if thahos could snap his fingers in real life. the answer is no, but as griff is aptly pointing out, this is a fake character. what the heck are you going? almost $700,000 to study romance between parrots by health and human services. instead of worried about your health, they're worried about parrots enjoying each other's companies. $3 million on watching hamsters fight on steroids. personally, i'd like to see that but, still, that's a high price tag. $200,000 for starbucks espresso machines for the dod, look, they need their juice, i get it. but not ott tune of 200k.

muck. carley: president biden signing into law a more than $850 billion defense spending bill that lifts the covid-19 vaccine mandate for our military. new act, however, does not protect those soldiers who were already discharged because of the mandate including our next guests who are currently suing the army after 10 unvaccinated soldiers were denied religious exemptions for the vaccine. joining us now is wendy cox, an attorney, and plaintiff u.s. army staff sergeant bobby shellski. good morning to you all. bobby, possibly a quick correction there. i don't think you have been discharged yet because a judge blocked the army from discharging you because you decided to file a religious exemption although you were facing possibility of that. what is your reaction to the judge's decision there who? well, let me start really quickly by stating that the view ises that i present do not

reflect the official position of the united states army, the department of defense or the u.s. government. that said, hearing that the judge granted an injunction to protect us from being separated from the if army, it was the greatest christmas present we could have asked for this week. so so knowing that our jobs are safe for the time being, it's a huge blessing. carley: so, wendy, congratulations, first of all, on the success of this case so far. and the president signed this, the military defense spending bill into law which rescinds the vaccine mandate. does that mean that this fight is over for you? >> hi, good morning. thanks soften so much for -- thanks so much for having us on today. it doesn't, actually. it does not change our case. the army has still not agreed to rescind all of the pubive and administrative actions that they've taken against soldiers prior to the rescission of this mandate, and they have also not agreed to stop further punitive

administrative and separative actions against these soldiers who have had denials of their a religious accommodation request. carrie: we just got this in from the pentagon to fox news, they say the army is aware of this case, meaning bobby's case, and that the president has signed the ndaa and awaits further guidance from the department of defense regarding implementation of these charges. what's your reaction to that? >> well, i think that we would like to see army actually guarantee that they are going to rescind all of the pubive the measures -- pubive measures that he was of already applied to several soldiers seeking religious accommodation. we would also like to see hem guarantee they are not going to further separate, further use administrative processes against these soldiers who only went out to fight for their religious rights under the first amendment. carley: bobby, you have four

children. what was it like, possibly, with the thought that you might lose your job because you were trying to fight this vaccine mandate? >> it was extremely stressful. i mean, the looming unknowing feeling of what's going to happen, you know, for the past year we've wondered daily is today cay that i get my final denial, you know? is today the day that i get a general officer reprimand, am i getting punished? so every day just waking up not knowing and every e-mail that comes through, the stress that comes with that, just opening an e-mail to find out what's inside, you know? carley: well, the judge, like we said, put a temporary stop on discharging you and hopefully more positive news to come with the signing of this ndaa. good to know the pentagon is aware of your case. hang both for joining us, we appreciate it. merry christmas. >> thank you. carley: congress just passed a $1.7 trillion which is supported from nearly every democrat

good piece of news because it feels really rough right now. this is what things look like now compared to 24 hours ago. it's 21 degrees tolder in new york, 33 degrees colder in jacksonville. but go towards the west, we're starting to see a bit of a warmup. cold air was so intense that that even this warm 'em that we're seeing keeps temperatures well below average. let me take you out to wednesday, almost the entire country is looking at temperatures above average, so we have something to look forward to, but we've got to get through this weekend, monday or so, and with temperatures like this, it's -13 in fargo right now, but across parts of the south, 9 in atlanta, temperatures in the teens right along the coastal areas, parts of the south. even across parts of south florida, cold air for florida. it's a very cold meaning. -- morning. we've got hard freeze warnings in effect across parts of the south. temperatures right now, obviously, very cold except for areas of the far west. this is the culprit, and we're sill going to watch this across

different appropriation bills. we should be voting on every one of hose individually -- those individually. defense, of course, department of homeland security, labor, you know? and on down the list of federal agencies. of course, nancy pelosi and chuck schumer didn't do their job, hay didn't get it passed on time chshed be done in september when we can debate and amend and have is up or down vote on these various agencies. so what they do just before a government shutdown is provide the option of shut down the government or combine all of these things into one massive mess of spending that no one can go through, that everything, you know, it can get stuffed with pork. and that's just unacceptable, and it's unfair to the american people. and then, griff, on top of that they included an additional almost $800 billion of nondefense spending for all of their pet projects on top of the almost clash 6 trillion -- $6 trillion that the biden

administration and democrat-run congress has already spent over the last two years. and to make it even worse, we're not even talking about medicare, medicaid, social security and the interest on the department which is almost as large -- on the debt. that just passes automatically. we don't even get to touch that. so this is just a massive spending mess, and it's gotta stop. griff: these pet projects are really astonishing. your colleague, congressman dan bishop, he read apparently the whole bill. 3 million for bee-friendly highways. what in the world is that? meanwhile, alexandria ocasio-cortez voted against it as well because she's opposing any additional funding, $8.42 billion for i.c.e., $86.5 billion for dhs. does that that strike you with as odd? >> well, it doesn't strike me as that odd coming from aoc because she's supported completely defunding i.c.e., the border patrol and the entire federal prison system, her and the squad quantity to -- want to just

reindeer farmer david hoover. hello. >> hi. carley: you brought the excitement. have you been out here in the cold all this time? >> yes. carley: okay for the reindeer -- >> we did an event last night over in jackson heights, so we've been hanging out -- it got cold. griff: who's this? >> this is prancer. carley: and who's this one? >> that's topper. prancer's seven and a half years old. i've had him since he was eight months, and this is my daughterriveny with topper who is a year and a half -- daughter tiffany. griff: hi, tiffany. how do you teach them to fly? >> well, see, i'm not allowed to ply. all i can do is takeoffs and landings. there's only one guy that's allowed to let 'em fry -- carley: right, and that would be santa claus are. these are reindeer in training. how do you become a reindeer farmer? >> well, it was a little 6-year-old girl that we used to take other deer and pass 'em off

as reindeer. and she walked up to us one night and said that is not a real reindeer. so in december of 2011, i went home and i googled reindeer. here we are. carley: here we are. give believe and this is the baby. >> that is myths city, she's 8 months old. live give how long does it take to grow the antlers? >> as soon as she is born, the little nubs start to push through. [laughter] todd: the antlers don't appear until after birth. carley: doesn't apply to me. >> they lose these antlers every year, and in march they start to regrow, and in five months' time, this is how much hale grow. the abilitilers get progressively -- antlers get progressively larger. >> topper, he's only a year and a half, he'll put on another hundred pounds -- carley: that is amazing.

reasons. the seahawks started off hot, it was a great story. geno smith made his first pro bowl this year in his 10-year career, but they cropped the last 4 of 5 games, so i like the chiefs today to keep rolling, and it's going to be in single-digit temperatures there, megawith the wind chill. i like the -- negative with the kind wind chill. todd: and you think lions, panthers, who cares? this one also has huge playoff implications. >> oh, completely. how about this story for the lions, they started the season 1-6, and everyone was, like, their season is done. no one in nfl history will start the year 1-6 and make the postseason, of course, if they're able to do so. jared of golf playing great -- jared goff playing great football. and the panthers team got prison of -- rid of their best player, fired their coach, and they're sill in it because of the abysmal nfc south division. big playoff implications in one, i like lions by 3.

todd: and then i would say the biggest game of the day, eagles/cowboys. all the eyes on this one. >> yeah. the eagles will be without yale. en hurts who was the mvp front-runner. now my vote goes to patrick mahomes in that one. so against the cowboys who have already clinched because of last week's loss by washington and seattle and the eagles looking to clinch the nfc east and really have their eye on that number one seed for home field advantage, so important there. i like the eagles today by 3, the extra incentive for home field advantage. and don't forget in addition to the $100,000 of terry bradshaw's money, fox super 6 is teaming up to win what's in the vault, but i promise you it's terry bradshaw, so it's going to be a good time. that vault prize will be

by the way, did anybody catch the back story as to why that reindeer in the forefront of the shot has the big antler? todd: no, we were talking about that. what is it? carley: did you catch the back story? there is a reason for that. griff: i love that rick reichmuth knew that they lose their horns or antlers every year and grow them back. carley: i think that reindeer got a little bit injured last year, i believe that's what he said. is that what he was saying, rick, the reindeer got injured? rick: i'm out of breath.
