anything about it. these are texas dps officials having to deal with the federal government and derelict of duty. and starting tomorrow title 42 going away, there is going to be no control at the border and people are going to be in so much danger because of this administration unwilling to enforce the law. >> ashley: if you think about the omnibus spending package, one of the things that has aiding illegal migrants pilot programs, that is $20 million that could be going to places like securing the border so why are we not using those funds to enforce hirer border patrol or doing something to brent doe might prevent things like i just read about from happening? >> what is really interesting. you talk about the omnibus bill and it does show congress was to deal with an issue like ukraine or something else, they can all come together and put money on the table and deal with it.

neither congress or this administration has any interest whatsoever to deal with the situation of the southern border or improving it in such a commitment to open borders. it is unwavering. we will see mass chaos and ovoverdosedeaths and there is no be done to stop this. and it really is so beyond disappointing that the american people are really left out of the budget or anything else. no one cares what affects the american people because this certainly more than any other issue. there is no concern and no efforts to address it. >> carley: of the biden administration request title 42 put in in place until the 27th. the supreme court to rule what they will do which is the hold up. what kind of timeline are we working with as to when title 42 will actually go away? then what happens next?

>> i really don't know as far as the timeliness, but you know what is interesting irony, last week the white house press secretary suggesting the white house was a bystander at the mercy of the court and had no opinion on this issue or actually implied they wanted title 42 tuesday. later, i believe that they were the next day they filed, no, title 42 should end and on the 27th. but i don't know what the supreme court will do but i do know what will happen. things will get worse at the border in this administration will do nothing other than simply make the border patrol at this stage in simply to process migrants. remember earlier in december fighting to keep aggravated felon illegal aliens in the country. so this administration wants nothing other than purely open border border patrol simply to process migrants into the country. they have made it clear, they

are never getting kicked out and treated as well or better than american citizens. >> ashley: excuse me we heard from biden administration officials saying they are coming up with a plan once title 42 in2 ends but last week they were talking about how the president is so mad and angry and cursing the west wing. do you think they actually have a plan in place that they are just going to surprise us with at the last minute? more wild, wild west and continued to be horrible down there at the southern border? >> it doesn't seem like there is any plan whatsoever. i don't think they really care. but the highest priority is the open border and nothing other than to encourage as much illegal immigration as possible. you see all these bad things

happening. they are just hopeful that the media will largely ignore it. and that's all they want, all they care about any time they are given a choice between public safety in the open border, they always choose the open border. they never put the interest of the american people first. they never put the safety first, health first where education first but always put the interest of the illegal aliens and the democrat party first and foremost. it is disgraceful because they have a responsibility to protect the public pier they have been so derelict in this responsibility. >> the news is continuing with these twitter files, part 9 release christmas eve and government agencies and not just the fbi but multiple are tied to the social media network. the file showed the fbi acting

as a doorman with a social media surveillance and censorship encompassing agencies across the federal government to the state department to the pentagon to the cia. so what do you think the nature of these relationships were between these government agencies and twitter? >> yeah, that is really -- another thing that is part of the same issue is to see this administration or you see the government working to censor opposing views or what they call this information and it is ironic when you see the government with the information they put out is that they have correct information when they think of the border or other issues they don't put out accurate information so even if it is worthwhile, they shouldn't be the ones in charge of it because they don't put out accurate information themselves. some of the things they have censored has been laughable in

terms of people joking and don't forget that will show how pervasive this is. you wonder if this is just twitter so what else is going on? and the other thing is, where's the media on this? the media seems so agreeable to this notion of censorship because they seem to think as long as it is something they agree with, they are fine with that but the united states guard is censoring information they are allowed to hear and to suggest they are doing it for reasons like we know just talked about the public safety border, they always put politics first. 's ode to suggest they put ahead of politics come i think that is hard to believe. >> carley: you know james comer has said part of this investigation will be with twitter. it could extend to facebook wherever it needs to go with the social media platforms. when they bring the man to investigate and ask questions,

do you think the organizations like fbi and cia are so untouchable that things just will not happen to them will they be held accountable for basically what has been put out for us to see in plain sight? >> sorry, i didn't hear all of your question but the sensor's ship issue and twitter, these agencies working together, you know, what else would they be doing for the greater interest of the american public? is there really anything that is serving the american public? that should be one of the questions. the second question is, is this legal? and is it a good thing that the government is involved and the information people again. i think most people would agree the answer is, "no." and how pervasive this is. it should scare people because this is what we know about.

trooper with the veteran the veteran severely injured in a car accident after working multiple long shifts. lucas' father and retired police chief rich joints me now. thank you so much for getting up with me this morning and good morning to you. >> good morning thank you so much for having me on. be one good morning, it is nothing for people to know that right now there is a shortage for the police all across the board whether state troopers, deputy sheriffs and there is an issue with that right now. how did you guys come up with this idea of having these sleeping trailers, especially when it comes to the short-term relief for the officers who were so overworked? >> well, the solution is still up in the air. the problem is that the facilities for the state police, unfortunately after work are

pretty old in some cases. some of them the local parish for example is over 50 years old. the dynamic of the workplace has changed for a number of reasons not the least the improvement situation and having to pull troopers from all over the state to staff the stations to perform this critical mission. so we thought if we could help the union by the way i want to hope the state police and the troopers union for the level of support that the family has experienced since the tragedy. it was a terrible thanksgiving but my wife and i say it was absolutely blessed christmas. and we think that he is fully going to recover and determine to do so. but getting back to the issue, the troopers will work these long shifts. a number of people working are in training. so they work a longer shift.

and driving back and forth, these long hours, they are exhaustive all the time. lucas will often come to our home and pass out on the couch. and my wife and i are happy to have him save. but they also come it is absolutely miraculous. we've had the honor and privilege to meet i'm going to say hundreds of troopers through this process. and they are outstanding people. they work incredibly hard. they are incredibly dedicated. and i find the fact that this, one of the finest state police organizations in this nation having a difficulty like this with recruitment really goes back to the issue of the way the police have been traded the last 3-5 years. >> ashley: you blame recruitment issues with officers and treatments are being

overworked and forces them to this point to complete exhaustion? >> absolutely i blame that situation. the way it has been framed pure the way it's been allowed to be discussed without being challenged would give rise to any power for any individual considering career and service. having second thoughts. all are entering careers and my wife and i have had many discussions about this. we approached some of this with a heavy heart. our accounts to my kids continue but how can we encourage others in an environment like this? a national discussion has to change. >> ashley: sorry, you said you will talk to the troopers union, but have you spoken to them yet and what does that conversation look like? >> oh, yeah, the troopers union has been absolutely fantastic to support lucas.

they have a stellar record of supporting the membership. but the resources are limited. all resources are limited to. so we simply would like to have the troopers union have additional resource so they can support these young people. the trailers may not be able to be done on state property. that discussion remains to be completed, but there are some hotels, et cetera where we can purchase rooms to get this issue addressed at least in the short term. long-term come with the political leadership has to step up. they've all been 100% supportive all the way to the governor to have that discussion and will improve these facilities. but in the short term it is needed. >> ashley: for someone watching, how can we help out with this movement and sensually? how do people donate? >> i provide fox with a copy of

we've got a real problem with a president compromised at the very least, at the very worst -- what is going on. more of the hearings over hunter biden's laptop. i hate bringing that up because it's been in the news too much, but the reality is we have a problem there. i think china has been watching every move made an watching supply chain issues and watching our allies. we will have a problem in the near future because we have a president who does not, who is not in control of what is going on. and to keep china in line and dealt with him on that level. there was some level of respect there. there is none now. they will walk over taiwan at the earliest convenience, i believe. this is just the beginning.

>> ashley: when you look at the military exercises, what do you think of the timing of this after a day beijing blasted by the defense bill. >> i want you to understand the chinese do not do anything half hhaphazard. it is all planned out and deals with whatever move we make, they will make a better move. that is currently what they are doing right now. saber rattling is real and we need to address it. i would hope that we could do it diplomatically. but we elected biden to do just that, to be a diplomat. that was one of his big goals and big movements when he was running for president. it was clearly right now but you were seeing. with the fentanyl crisis on all of this, his ability to bring it up in discussion and people dying, knoxville, tennessee, is

one of our major problems right now. it is drugs laced with fentanyl and it is coming straight over the mexican border. they don't have the guts to address it. >> that is a great point. the defense spending $850 billion for defense, a 10% increase. do you think that is enough to come back with this china threat? >> i don't know. the problem with our defense spending is the military-industrial complex israel. we are spending money on things that we probably don't know. you were talking to people that never served in the military. and things like battleships and the second world war. we need a battleship spirit but today, it is done a different level. so, i think we need to get a little bit more futuristic in our spending and quit dealing with the lobbyists on this. that is part of the problem,

♪ ♪ >> president biden's policies are driving the market down with a big swing at your 401(k). a new report found retirement funds have plummeted 23% in the past year. they average 401(k) balance $97,000 and the third quarter down $126,000.01 year ago. personal finance expert and university of penn bidens professor dan joins us now. dan, good morning to you. this has got to be on the minds of a lot of americans but what is your advice for someone who is about to retire? >> don't. i met, carley, merry christmas to you and the gang. that means we will be working longer. prices are up obviously inflation. your 401(k) is down a pair that is a freight train coming from both sides of the track, i'm afraid. a couple of things you and i can

do, we can control, we can control how much we put into our 401(k). so all of us should be contributing more if you can. reviewed the portfolio with right risk and young workers now is the time to work increase work portfolio and inflation proof if you can, choices like inflation protected bonds and things like that. finally, take advantage, and he gives some of us an opportunity in accounts that earn more interest as well. so there is a small, silver lining for us. >> carley: the headline if you're thinking about retiring this year, just don't do it, don't do it yet. also because you are a personal finance expert i have to ask if anybody is struggling, it may feel appealing to tap into 401(k) earlier. is there any circumstance where you would advise that?

>> that is a great question and that you asked that. many people do, that is the reality. a lot of folks are hurting and taking loans against their 401(k) or cashing out their 401(k), which is not a good idea. the last emergency measure, you know, i suppose. but you want to avoid that at all costs. not only does it penalize you now but robs your future leader. as a short buyer, don't do it. >> carley: the reason behind the market volatility and the fact that 401(k)s are down is because of inflation, which doesn't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon so what do you think 2023 will look like? >> i thought inflation was temporary. what happened? listen, we still have a long way to go on this. we are at the sixth inning when it comes to the fight on inflation. so we have a third of the game to go. that means higher rates, for sure, early part of the year but we will see what happens latter

part of the year. i would expect more of the same but it's tough to see how this breaks out and our 401(k) recovers until we wrestled this beast, inflation, to the ground. >> carley: what do you think about that $1.7 trillion omnibus spending package that is going to be signed into law? do you think that will actually increase inflation moving forward? >> it may be good politics, but it is bad economics when you actually look at it. on the surface, it doesn't do much to help us with the number one priority at the moment, at least when it comes to the economy which is higher egg prices and everything else. on the surface, it doesn't look like it adds a whole lot to wear fight against inflation. in fact, it might even make it a little bit worse. >> carley: how do you think the fed has been doing in handling the situation? >> great once they got to the party. they came to the party terribly late and help create the bubble we had.

but that is not atypical. the fed usually does react late. they did this time as well. now that they are on the case, they seem intent to get this thing fixed. i have every confidence they will. they did come late to this one. >> carley: they certainly did, they did come late. every time the biden administration and announces a new policy and if you think about 2023, they were still that lingering student loan situation that might be coming down and adding more money to the economy feeling the situation, i'm sure appear the federal reserve is scratching the head and trying so hard to fight this peer of the spending is making it so much worse. >> it does work cross purposes. we have talked about this before. the student loan was missed opportunities how we pay and higher education cost as opposed to forgiveness. reform versus forgiveness. missed opportunity on that one. you are right, administration
