>> griff: 7:00 a.m. and two dawdawgs references. we turn now to a fox weather alert. at least 39 people have died as brutal cold and snow whipped across the country over the holiday weekend. >> carley: this situation is so tragic. buffalo, new york also getting hit with 40 inches of snow and historic blizzard where the death toll is still climbing. >> joe: fox weather correspondent max gorden joins us live from hamburg, new york with more. looks like you are still in the snow out there. >> yes and i will be for a while. the good news is that the winter storm warning has been downgraded to a winter weather advisory. the wind isn't blowing as hard less snow coming down. as you see around me a lot of snow. more than 3 feet with some drifts growing as large as 6 feet, 7 feet tall. and unfortunately, the death toll from this storm here locally is rising.

in erie county, at least 13 people are confirmed dead. there's a number of situations that occurred in some situations, first responders were just not able to get out to people who are having medical emergencies just because the roads were so bad. one young woman died in her vehicle. another man was found in the snow drift just tragic situations unfolded there right now, a lot of people are still also in the dark. power is being restored slowly but, as of last update, a little under 12,000 customers are still without power here in erie county. a lot of issues there. trees going into power lines because of the high winds. but there had been some moments of lefty. the buffalo bills coming back from chicago had to really dig out their cars and they were kind of whooping it up a little bit. silver linings, there have been so many people working so hard coming together for their community. the first responders, the plow drivers and the store clerks who have kept their stores reason

he was shopping with his grandmother, excited for christmas. doing what all of us do. and all of a sudden he becomes the victim of gun violence and gets shot by a stray bullet. now his mother is speaking out. she is devastated and heart broken and demanding answers. she said my son was not just the victim of a stray bullet. he is the victim of decades of neglect that have left new orleans youth with no hope for a future and with no real fear of consequences. it's past time for leaders four city and all over to their their jobs. it matters hot president is. hot governor is. and hot mayor is. leaders create opportunities including the opportunity to live in peace without fear of random violence. i cannot imagine what this woman is going through and to speak so eloquently and deeply about the issues that are going on. not just in new orleans but across the country as her beautiful son was just shot and killed is really something else and should be noted and highlighted not just today but

throughout this entire crime crisis that we're facing right now. >> you look at the statistics there and specifically gun homicide. homicide by firearms is up. and democratic leaders will say well, it's a gun problem. and so a lot of people that aren't read or experienced in this issue they will look at this and say okay that makes sense. the truth is all the laws are on the book to keep illegal guns from killing people. the difference is they are illegal. they are on the streets. by the way about 500 less police officers in new orleans there to take those gunels off the streets and if you are not locking people up for gun related crimes like falsifying information on atf form like say hunter biden is accuse muching. do not punishing people for gun crimes before it becomes homicide. you can't say it's a gun problem before it becomes homicide. cities like new orleans have turned their backs on police officers and empowering their police this is what you get. this type of crime which ends in

not changed in new orleans in the type of leadership, the failed leadership, in fact, not true leadership of democrat mayors of progressive policies, and you can't have police, prosecutors and policies not working together to put criminals away. >> griff: you know, it's sadly not just new orleans but certainly obviously this tragedy on christmas. the absolutely worst time of the year to have something like this happen puts a spotlight on it. >> carley: absolutely. certainly does. something we are going to be following as long as it takes to fix this issue. there's also some big news when it comes to twitter and the fbi and you, of course, it came out in the form of these twitter files. we now have twitter files part 9 that was released on christmas eve and it shows that it isn't just the fbi with really close ties to twitter. it's also other government agencies as well. the cia, the state department, so the questions there are what sort of relationship did those government agencies have with

twitter, when did it comes to the fbi. we know that fbi agents were really pressuring a lot of twitter employees to take certain tweets down. ant it didn't have to do with just foreign messaging. it had a lot to do with people with low follower accounts states across the country. why do why the fbi when their focus should be on foreign interference be talking to twitter about tweets that u.s. citizens are sending. and that sounds like a clear cut case of a first amendment violation. now the "new york post" is picking up this whole story with an op-ed titled revelations about twitter intel ties raise questions about big tech and other sites. and the "new york post" writes what role is the federal government playing right now as outgoing house intelligence committee chair congressman adam schiff and his democrat colleagues badger the likes of meta to maintain their censorship policies. mmeta is,facebook and rigging tc

you look at twitter, we know that they operated as an arm of the u.s. government, they engaged in censorship. they engaged in election interference. in fact, i believe the federal election commission ought to investigate them to see if they violated laws involving in kind donations because they clearly operated in a way to benefit the democratic party. and we know that at the behest of the fbi and you, perhaps, other will agencies they suspended accounts and they also censored us greatly. i think fewer people would have died from covid had americans been able to get information. you look at the nba. so much hypocrisy. you find them embraced in black lives matter. groups like antifa, and at the same time they had nothing to say about china.

chrchris alvarez. i have been with you numerous times. gunshots takes it to another level. >> it does, griff. good morning. of course criminals don't take a break. especially during this christmas holiday. our troopers were out there working and this particular event that took place in eagle pass on saturday, christmas eve, was what we see every day in that particular area. where we see high-speed chases. >> we see a lot of, you know, smugglers from out of town, out of state that are driving down being recruited by smuggling organizations to smuggle illegal immigrants in that particular area. in that event one of our troopers involved in a high-speed chase and like most of these chases end up the driver are will crash into a ranch fence and everybody bail out and run towards the ranch. that's what happened in this particular instance the trooper attempted to chase down the driver as numerous people bailed out of the vehicle and ran towards the ranch. the trooper heard several gunshots from the brush area. and because of that, were able to set up a perimeter with

multiple agencies, county sheriff's departments, border patrol, we had our helicopters tracking canines and able to recover two weapons from that area where she heard of the gunshots. still searching that area. have not found the actual driver or anybody involved in that vehicle. we know the vehicle was stolen out of houston we have seen in numerous cases as well drivers will use vehicles to smuggle illegal immigrants. >> it seems these smugglers, the cartels are becoming even more emboldened than we have ever seen. why? >> well, griff, because, the fact is that there has been no consequence so far on the federal side. nothing has been acknowledged. the fact that we have a crisis. they have not taken any action to go out criminal organizations. that's what governor act launched operation lone star we have been doing this since last year march of 2021, because of that able to go out to these organizations. now we are seeing how more dangerous it's becoming where smugglers are becoming more bold and dangerous. carrying weapons which we have

about what is the plan. >> we are seeing more people coming across. and it's hard to imagine how much worse it did get. we saw what took place in el paso. we were able to control that area with the help of the national guard. able to put up fencing and able to mitigate that flow of people coming across. now with lifting of title 42. our concern is the criminal activity. more drugs coming into our country because the fact that border patrol will be essentially pulled off the line. all the resources will be pulled off the line to process this massive flow of people coming across. that's our concern. we are trying to find ways to expand operations and that power so we can actually go after these organizations and try stop that flow of criminal activity into our country. >> griff: lt, in the 30 seconds i have left i want to ask sources tell me and congressman henry cuellar put it out on twitter the administration is looking to get the government of mexico to redirect the heavy

important thing as far as their concern. is the final -- that last bit of power that she provides but, no. when you look at the things that are on her plate that she is supposed to be responsible for. it's a disaster. the best example, i think, is the border because she has shown such disregard for even attempting to understand the problem. and she in that vanity fair piece oh immigration is just a cudgel. and congress refuses to do the hard work. the immediate past president solved the problem at the border and this czar kamala harris actually undid all of the things the president did creating the current crisis at the border that we have. but, here's the other thing is that, you know what is really interesting i think this may be true certainly since kennedy. the first time we have had two, that's not true.
