1:07 am
and so, what did they do in communist went the domestic situation is dark and his leadership is failing? they look abroad to try a foreign environment with a greater distraction. the reality here and it is important everyone listening today can go back and see this if they want to google it, the reality is we have sold weapons far more than we have sold to taiwan for every president back to ronald reagan and actually before ronald reagan. so the bottom line here is this is a distraction. obviously, taiwan is in the line of fire and we need to be clear about the messaging and supporting taiwan. we are obviously doing that in ukraine we are a closer ally with ukraine. the bottom line, president xi is under domestic pressure unprecedented with his tenure and so this is a distraction.
1:08 am
>> what happens if china does invade taiwan? a lot of their money and weapons are in ukraine right now. is the u.s. prepare for something like that? >> we are prepared. let me say i've spent time in taiwan and it looks small on a map on a globe but it is actually a fairly large area. china would not want to destroy that area because it is an economic powerhouse to the extent they want to take it the way they pressured hong kong into becoming the protector of the errors despite international treaties that said it wouldn't be. if china invades taiwan, it would be a disaster, quite frankly. it would be a disaster for them and we are prepared but there is no question he could do battle in that hemisphere at the same time. >> there have been a few times president biden has said if chia invades taiwan we invade but
1:09 am
where do you think the biden administration stands on that and where should we stand on that? >> there has been a policy of deliberate ambiguity since jimmy carter sort of walked back are noble to commit to taiwan. it has been an understanding such a thing with china, one china policy. what that means is we allow china to interpret the way they want, but we respect trade with them and actually send a lot of military hardware to taiwan where the defenses as a country. so it's been an evolutionary policy. and i think biden has been out over his skis a little bit. he doesn't seem to be as forward as he was 20 years ago although he made some mistakes too appear the reality is taiwan is an ally of the united states. we have sworn to defend them. we've made it crystal clear that we will defend them and i think china knows that. in this environment the best possible outcome is clear

1:11 am
willingness to support taiwan should not be ambiguous and to the same effect. it is a delicate process, diplomacy but part of it for the best part is referring war. that requires pure signals and quite frankly this white house biden with every republican and democrat in the house and senate should be saying clearly we stand with taiwan. china, back off. we are not going to let a war unfold without response. i don't think we are near a war but i think china is in the process right now of creating an international distraction. they would love to take taiwan back. we need to be clear they can't do that. >> roberts, there is korean peninsula but what is happening there and why? >> okay, let's summarize this with two big points. the first is north korea unlike during the prior administration
1:12 am
and during 2020 there were four mist launches. in 2022 north korea has in excess of 90 ballistic and cruise missiles. so north korea is also feeling their oats and decided that they got a week president in biden and they will go ahead and rattle some saber. at the same time they sent drones south korea and scrambled jets and was able to respond. as in all of these situations where you have an opportunistic aggressor trying to do something that signals that they think maybe they can get away with something, you have to respond every time. rushes the counterexample, and unfortunately's president biden said -- use over that lead to. i think the bottom line here is you have to be clear. we have to be clear. it didn't help vice president errors meant to south korea mixed up north and south korea

with our ally. that didn't help. what we need to do was have clarity and deterrence is the first priority. once we do that north korea will understand institutional side of the united states, the people, us, all of us with freedom wherever freedom exists. we don't expect missiles to fall on japan or taiwan. >> clarity and determination sounds like the perfect plan to me in a very serious situation. robert, thank you for joining us. >> thank you. the controversy yesterday a spokesman for former vice president pence says he has not entered the 2024 presidential race. clarifying former vice president mike pence did not file today. and reporters, the spokesman suggested the filing could have been a prank on the media appear the confusion stepping from a
