water to residentses and cars and buildings are being dug out from the snow. adam klotz joins us. this has been bad for people. >> the snow in buffalo, just stopped yesterday in buffalo. it's been ongoing, ongoing and still cold there for millions of americans early this morning. change is on the way. i will begin with cold temperatures. that line along the mississippi and east is where temperatures are low. not nearly what it was a couple district attorneys ago. 27 in chicago -- cold air settled across the country. to the west, 40 in kansas city, warmer in dallas than it has been last couple mornings at 46 degrees. warmer air and change will be occurring.

forecast highs over next several days, today is getting warmer, 50 in kansas city. pay attention to the time stamp in the upper corner. heat will build on eastern half of the country. more mild temperatures, back to normal and getting back to above normal as you see heat return and we're talking about abnormally warm temperatures. snow will start to melt, this issic taking you to friday. high of 54 in new york city, 51 in detroit, much warmer air taking control across the entire half of the country and that will melt snow and ice. feeling much better going into saturday in new york city, where it is still 50. warmer air on the way. going from christmas day temperatures to new year's day temperatures, cincinnati, ohio, 73 degrees.

relief, it is getting slammed right now. for an area used to getting slammed by winter weather, this is off the charts. >> ashley: would they have astronomical amounts? >> way above where they should be this time of year. >> todd: often good stories come out of tragedy and bad. eight people arrested and charged with looting following the deadly storm. buffalo police release thanksgiving video, mayor byron brown calling the looters, the lowest of the low. that is something we can all agree with. still investigating more looted stores across the city. like i said, we've heard stories about people being rescued and first responders saving lives, it boggles the mind how people, we all come from the same sort of d.n.a. >> ashley: that is debatable.

>> todd: you have a choice of looting stores during an absolute tragedy combined with juxtaposition of people who do so much good, it is sad, sick and uplifting at the same time. ioc there are people that do this and people that would never dream of doing this, this is the world we live in and not just now, this is how it is for a long, long time. any time there major storm, you hear stories like this, i've covered stories like this, even in the heartland in missouri. it never gets easier. there is a different type of place for people who act like that, but when people are going through tragedy, it is horrible to see this happening. >> todd: it is not like stealing a loaf of bread to feed his kid, people are taking advantage of this and going to sell it online and make a profit, nobody should

heart goes out to you and your husband, i'm sorry for your loss, it was senseless and tragic. what happened to brandon? >> brandon flew into new orleans about 11:00 and text me about 1 and told me had had a meeting downtown at 3. he had gone to his grandmother's. someone he went to school with picked him up and dropped him off to his meeting. after the meeting he went to the store to get things for my mother. the weather was cold and he didn't want her to come outside. apparently there was a gun battle that broke out and he got caught in the crossfire. >> ashley: i read he was an innocent bystander. what did you think when police

told you he wasn't the target, he was senselessly shot? >> i didn't need the police to tell me that and i don't recall the conversation addressing that issue, but i knew already that he wasn't the target. brandon has never been in a fight, he doesn't have an enemy, only a few people knew he was in the city. >> ashley: he had 250,000 followers on tiktok. have police told you how the investigation going? >> no, the police have told me very little. i spoke to a detective last night and she was able to tell me the name of the person he was in the car with and that was new information to me. she said there were a couple of

suspects in custody, but that was first time i heard from the police since it happened. they may be communicating through the family attorney. >> ashley: how has your city changed in recent years? >> well, i'm sorry, what is your name? >> i'm ashley. >> ashley, i don't think the change has been in recent years, not the way you mean. new orleans has been devolving for four years i know of. i wasn't born in new orleans, i was raised in new orleans and came to this city as a tween, not quite a teenager yet. this is a different world, i don't live in the city anymore. people say, do you miss living

in new orleans and i say if i lived in new orleans, i would miss new orleans, my new orleans is gone and it is not coming back. if there is a reason, if i can point to anything that might have led to the death of my son, i would say the city has neglected its youth for many years. there is not enough recreation or after-school programs not enough summer programs. there are people who are struggleing and some people working two jobs to pay the bills and they are not able to supervise teenagers and so forth and after-school care ages out at 12. there is no place to go for even good kids who would do better if they had better opportunities. what do they do? there is not enough safe havens. we've been cooking this problem

for a long time. we insulate ourselves and say it is not us, it is those people. if brandon wasn't safe in the middle of the day in the business district trying to get groceries, then none of us are safe. everybody has skin in this game. everybody has a dog in this fight and i think it is time for everyone to come aboard and our leaders need to get their priorities in place. it does matter who the leaders are and what their priorities are. so far, i have not seen any of our leaders step forward and put forth support our kids need, that is the pipeline, it startses with the kids. law enforcement will never be the solution to this problem. this problem has to become the slugsz to this problem has to come from investing in crime prevention and crime prevention is getting in front of it and it

starts with kids. >> ashley: you talked about not enough safe havens, especially in new orleans, is there a sense of safety for the youth or for adults in new orleans? >> i'm sorry, you said i didn't hear all of that, i'm having a little issue here. >> ashley: you said there were not enough safe havens in new orleans, is there any sense of security or safety for youth or adults in new orleans? >> i would venture to say there is not a sense of safety for youth or adults in any major city, certainly not in new orleans. the police department is understaffed and the juf nile system is chaotic right now. no, to answer your question, nobody is safe, not in nulsz issue not in new york issue not

in chicago, l.a. or d.c., this could happen to anyone at any time. if it could happen to brandon, a kid that has never been in trouble, he didn't drink, didn't smoke, didn't do drugs, he wasn't violent. he was an entertainer and loved new orleans, he represented new orleans. if you met my son, within five minute says, you knew he was from new orleans was he was a comedian. he represented this city and it is horrifying to me the city he loved chew him up and spit him out. >> ashley: heartbreaking to hear the words come from you and it is awful you lost your son entirely too soon. i hope there will be justice brought for brandon and your family, we appreciate you

how do we get this to stop? to me, it looks like it is so far gone we cannot get a grip on this. >> that's a great question and good morning. i'm not 100% sure how we can really make it stop. we talk about how many thousands of pounds of drugs are flowing across the border from mexico to the united states, that is where it is coming from, no other country in the world shares a border with a country pumping that much drugs into another country. we have turned around and seeing 100,000 overdose deaths every year in the united states and 28,000 pounds of fentanyl just in california, just by the d.e.a., doesn't include local municipalities. the police department here seized 140 pound in san

francisco just this year. >> todd: how easy it is to get deadly drugs on the streets? >> wow, well, where i live in san francisco, we have about three to five hundred organized drug deal earlies, cartel fuelled, working in broad daylight on the streetses. you can walk to 10 different street corners and walk up and say i need fentanyl and you can purchase it right there. they will sell it to anybody, if you have money, you can buy it. >> ashley: it is a two-part question, how much does this stuff cost and who is buying this? is it our youth? people in the workforce or mainly people who are addicted? >> it is everybody. i was out on the street four years ago, half the clients that would buy were drive-up

customers, they would get off work and drive up and buy heroin. fentanyl is reaching across all socio economic lines, you have young people, kids, people that are homeless and struggling with addiction and people getting off work and coming up to try it. it has taken over the drug market and become the primary drug of choice in san francisco. people that used to use heroin, you can't buy heroin anymore on the street, everything is fentanyl or meth and many time laced into the meth or cocaine. you buy one drug, you are getting fentanyl with it and you don't know. >> todd: this is thanks to china, they are facilitating this through the mexico border. your governor put out this other than waing about the deadly influx of fentanyl. yet he doesn't stand up and oppose the biden policies, does
