the dead week, the best week of the year and for most people this week not a week off from work but at the same time a return to the normal rhythm of regular life. nobody knows what to do with this leftover week awkwardly such that the bottom of the year. this holiday purgatory is dedicated to low expectations, eating, visiting family and resting but even for those of us going to work, it is assumed not much will be accomplished before the new year. so what is on our twixmas to-do list? rachel, there's already down times and a lot to do at the end of the year. >> rachel: just before i came to get ready to do this show, i left a lot of to-do list with my kids, but it is funny, right? in the building, it feels different, no offense, producers but there is a lower expectation of everything that you can see

that is how it feels. i think it is a great time to catch up with people. call your grandma if you haven't called her in a while. call your mom and have the conversations. i just think that idea is still lingering and that christmas feeling and just spinning family time and take over little bit more i think is wonderful. >> katie: joey commit is a great way to maybe go through your new year's resolution and check them off if they would do not come true. onan on a few things you may be able to accomplish in the new year. >> joey: you are not wrong, number one, americans, we like to work so we don't know what to do with big chunks of time off. that is part of the conversation, hey, culturally we have this week off and we don't know what to do because a lot of places don't work. when i was in the marine corps, always straddled around christmas. and then a nonprofit space for christmas, they started giving people to give money and take a week off. but since i have been with fox

it is a pretty heavy work week for me. [laughter] >> rachel: so i had a massive fear of birds but especially chickens. somehow people on the show, coworkers they are found out about this chicken pier that a really creepy, especially creepy chicken peer that is legit fear. so much so, that a few months later, we had the pardoning of the christmas thanksgiving turkeys onset. and they actually leave me out of the segment. surpassed 2,500 cancellations and over 2,300 flights already canceled for tomorrow. but mayor pete from south bend is on the case. transportation case pete buttigieg will come down hard on southwest. >> everybody understands there was extreme weather across the country but where most airline so the performance start to improve, southwest has actually move the other direction. you have passengers who are stranded. you have passengers who can't get a hold of customer service. it is an unacceptable situation. >> rachel: tough guy but why didn't may repeat prevent this from happening in the first place? calling out the administration for not stepping up fast enough, nancy mace. >> it took four days and thousands and thousands of cancellations for d.o.t. to speak up and saying for days with the ceo of southwest to finally speak up. i hope at some point the government will be intervening in looking at the issues more efficient and more effective.

the first quarter without that ppp money here at the ceo comes out and gives an apology that is about as useful as a first class the on a southwest plane. there is no substance whatsoever saying we need to replace our systems. you know what? what about last year when this happen and the summer when this happened? what about the federal to pay for this. the real problem with this what pete is going to do, secretary pete all respect given, what he's going to do is end up paying for systems and we just spend more money on them. >> rachel: that is the government to spend more money. you make a great point they could have upgraded their own system here they had the money to do that. but at the same time, katie, awful mandates were put on the airline industry. a lot of people left the industry because they were forced out because of mandates and that created shortages. so the government creates these problems and then get mad

endemic mad when things aren't going well. >> katie: i think it is infuriating. they don't let you take your bags but cancel your flight and don't give you a voucher and you have to fight what the expectation is pure there was no possibility to change your flight a different day and they charge you. however, these calls for the government to come in and do something to change his problem, especially for someone like pete buttigieg who could not sell pot holes in his town where he was mayor. i think you will make it worse as president reagan said the most terrifying words in the english i am here for the government to help. i think that will make it worse. the government over regulates a number of these administrations. congress looks at this house republicans in january with the new congress. i hope they ask the question are there regulations that are causing more problems for the industry rather than only looking for the war regulations to prevent this from the futuret

over regulating and a lot of instances because these massive problems. they should look at both while holding these companies accountable. they do get tons of taxpayer money. if you take money from the taxpayer, you are accountable as a taxpayer as well and an obligation to make sure the people are flying on these airlines are represented that way. >> rachel: tyrus, the southwest markets, their value dropped 6% today. so, is pete buttigieg scolding them going to be what makes them change, or is that the market that will cause them to do what joey says and update their system i make the changes? >> tyrus: here is the deal, the ceo knows if it drops, the government will step in and save them again. who does this affect? you make a great point that there is no first class in southwest so a lower so socioeconomical class. sorry, they didn't update their systems, sorry that is why you get the cheap flights, want to get away? >> rachel: they are not cheap

these days, >> tyrus: compared to other ones they are. but here is the deal. and i'm just -- maybe twixmas my week but if illegal immigrants and buses would have showed up the united states government wod have found airplanes flying with her wanting to go but the same thing with the blizzard. where were the federal agents? we don't see any help from this administration when american people are in trouble. because pete buttigieg could make some things happen. we can get some buses. it might not be planes, trains, automobiles. it might not be the way you get there but we will get you there because that is the way. we will let you know saturday. in the meantime slipping at an airport for anyone who has done it, not a good time. >> rachel: it is such a great point. we have paid for so many flights and bow so many illegals throughout this. excellent point, tyrus. richard, i will ask you a sincere question. i'm not saying this to be mean.

i am going to ask you -- no, no, no, or democrats, a lot of hope in pete buttigieg. are they embarrassed just how he has performed over the last couple of years? >> richard: this is not even about pete buttigieg, let's be very clear. no, no, no, hold on 90% of flights have been canceled with one airline. a majority of flights canceled around the world is one airline. tso to blend this on the transportation secretary is not even the employees of the airlines. 90% -- i did not interrupt you. >> rachel: you are not answering what tyrus said. >> richard: 90% of the airline, the flights canceled in the united states today from southwest airlines because bad management, bad software and flight attendants you can't blame you can't link the flight attendants but the people in the corporate seeds of southwest airlines for canceling flights, period the end of story.

style. while on house arrest ftx founder sam bankman-fried with the guy behind the big shorts with big blockbuster movies. no word on whether proceeds from any book or movie deal will go to the millions of people sam's account. and the social media and "the new york times" still doing pieces lamenting his arrest is going to hurt the bahamas. but in the u.s., sam bankman-fried is -- interviews across the bahamas, residents say that his crimes were hardly comparable to the gang violence and expressed fears of economic fallout if crypto investors don't return. tyrus, what do you make of this? >> tyrus: i'm not making any of it. i would wadded up and throw it in the trash can. this dude is going to go to jail. but he has that golden carriage. people don't believe that he doesn't have one appearance of

people in his position, even the smartest of people will dumb down to get a piece of it. so many people are connected. he gave free money to just about anybody, anywhere so he will have a lot of allies. they also want to know what he's going to say. of course, this guy just needs to shut up. if his lawyer had any sense, stop doing movie deals. the good news is for everyone he hurt, every time he talks he digs a deeper hole. of course, they will miss him because he spends a lot of money there. he brought a lot of money and that the economy is based off tourism. when you have someone that spends approval frivolous, that is good. the bank accounts aren't empty will be empathetic because he could possibly help them. >> joey: katie, he brings up a good point. this puff piece is outlandish. because he spent money on charities and the bahamas, i guess that writes that ship for

defrauding people out of their life savings? >> katie: he was donating millions of dollars to democrats and a friendly company blah, blah, blah and a free pass on the fraud they were conducting. but there's a lot here that the mainstream media could investigate. there is a treasure trove of information reporters could dive into and yet it's not on the front page of every single newspaper in the country. a lot of this doesn't make sense and it doesn't add up in terms of the money. sam bankman-fried is staying home and his parents multimillion dollar home. the allegations they were in this and deeply embedded with the democratic party and academia. he had bail of $250 million after saying $100,000 in his bank account. but we know he was flying private in the lounge at the airport when he was supposed to be not in prison or in jail but extradited into the united states. there was a lot of question where this money is, but if he is still using money defrauded from his customers. and now this lawsuit filed for

ftx customers and saying we want our money back. the cofounders, people lead guilty to fraud. the question is, how is he still continuing to be this outlandish with his spending and being involved in pop culture and benefiting the fraud while other people -- >> joey: his parents are spending $10,000 a week. they are university professors. i have not worked in academia. i don't know they make that kind of money. why aren't their assets not under scrutiny and frozen as well? >> k>> rachel: regarding the puf piece, you are not a celebrity, you are a criminal. and yet, this guy is treated like a celebrity. i believe something is going on here. he knows he's not in trouble. the way he is acting, he knows he's not in trouble. he knows he is being protected by some very powerful people. the question is why? what is going on here? i have a theory. i have a lot of you know what

lack of transparency and actual consumer protection. with that said, if you read the piece by "the new york times," what they talk about with regarding to the bahamas specifically is a perspective. the bahamas is a country that benefits from tourism so the idea sam bankman-fried bringing in millions of dollars in the country as a reason why they like him. he spends money here and good for our economy. you have to put that on the shelf -- and also worth pointing out in the bahamas you are not allowed by cryptocurrency. they have better regulatory over crypto than we do in the united states. maybe we should copy and paste crypto policies and maybe sam bankman-fried would not be able to take -- >> rachel: we should be able to buy what we want. >> richard: but now you are mad when you can steal and defraud millions of dollars. >> joey: you said the right word commit is about taxpayers. >> richard: sadly we have crypto. >> joey: spending money on people in the bahamas that need it has nothing to do with defrauding people. so this makes no sense to me. it is the year if some of the

and his career did not take off like we thought it would appear that is a example of bad nepotism. >> katie: obviously you have a benefit when your parents are from hollywood and they have the best people and can get you a small role in the film they are doing. however, like you said being put in that role is different than succeeding. a lot of these people miley cyrus, and julie angelina jolie. they were more successful than their parents work. so something about parents making it and passing down the fruits of the labor to their children with her family business or in hollywood. and i would also say that a lot of the time the kids of these very famous people do not turn out well at all. so if you can make and be successful and talented in the industry and the parents can bring you along to have a successful career, i don't think there is anything wrong with that as long as you can prove

yourself as well make your own way eventually once you get the hand up. >> tyrus: i mean jamie lee curtis is an institution of a franchise and far surpassed what she has done. at one time, she was e on every poster of every young american. well met, she was it. you have a little bit of celebrity. and nine children. are you going to use nepotism? it is case-by-case. you have to do the work. the same mind-set? >> katie: i think it is human to want to help your children appeared as you said, but that you have a construction business or restaurant, we want to help our kids be in that business. kate hudson we are a family of storytellers. there was something about the art spirit on the other hand, in the 1950s, 16% people came in the arts came from the working class. so obvious, the arts have been from people in the arts and you have to have that kind of

support system to get out. now it is only 7%. in defense of those trolling all of these nepo babies, the only thing i agree with that is we don't want all of our stories, you know in terms of movies, tv shows to come from the perspective of the elite and privilege. we want those elite stories to be the true america. with that said, everyone should want to help their kids. that is why we help them. >> tyrus: i can give it to you but i don't think these are good examples of nepotism. would you agree? >> richard: i think that -- even when you go to the doctor's office, my dad, my mom was a doctor. i think it is something you see in every industry. when you see it in hollywood, often times, the folks that we are talking about our parents, either their parents -- the name that comes to mind diana ross and her daughter tracy ellis. they are equal in their

celebrity, diane ross is successful and her daughter is successful. so no napa nepotism the child s successful. >> tyrus: with your success, you are celebrity now. i don't necessarily want my kids and kids and entertainment and i don't necessarily want my kids to wrestle. i want them to have a different path in mind. where you want that question rick >> joey: celebrity as i word. >> tyrus: look at your arms and you carry it. >> joey: there was a lot of examples in hollywood of extremely talented people but i will give you one closer to home. i started learning how to do this job politics on tv at 27 years old after two wars and college education. peter doocy started learning to do this job for probably three years old and there is a difference between putting somebody in a place and training them throughout their life to get it.

you know? people at the interview didn't bring up -- why would anybody trust me with responsibility? i got that job and it felt great. this goes back to the parents. stop using tablets as babysitters and roll up your sleeves and get to parenting. your kid should be able to answer a phone call. we used to have to answer phone calls. if a bill collector, answer the phone. >> richard: i feel my first job was a telemarketing job. katie? >> katie: we talked this morning and her name mary jane cox on "fox & friends." this is not about phone phobia but skill set. you go to business school and learn how to speak and communicate differently when you are making a sale then if you were going to an acting audition for example. i think there is value in learning how to speak on the phone, whether having a conversation with a boss or, you know, making a sable. i think it is a skill set for a career rather than answering the
