obviously we know that fencing works. so is it joe biden's position with walls and fences and all the proof you need, robert, he needs this border to be? >> yeah, there is no doubt. i spoke to some agent working the el paso border booking them yet today, and i asked them about the expansion of that fence. and the word they used, they told me it was a game changer. it made all the difference in the world. it is preventing them from coming across like you said a ghost town. and the other thing that fence is forcing the migrant to turn themselves in, if you will, at the port of entry coming across the border but the other thing that fence is going to do the mass migration what occurred in el paso several weeks ago when several venezuelans rushed the border.

there is a lot of good things happening with this fence, but i would call it a game changer in el paso definitely. >> carley: robert to come is there any concern the biden administration will make texas take the wall down the same wayy did arizona? >> you know, i don't know. i found it interesting that they did take shipping containers there. but i think the difference may be, in my opinion, we got to remember the mayor of el paso declared an emergency. so i think under those circumstances, the governor deployed the national guard. they are doing things, treating it as an emergency. that is why you are saying the fence go up in shipping containers. i think that will be the difference working in el paso and what occurred in arizona. >> todd: let's focus on the gotaways for a moment. is there any way in your experience in law enforcement to track the gotaways once they get

away? or are they completely off the radar, free to do what they want not just in texas and arizona but the other 48 states? >> it is very alarming. we have to keep in mind 240,000 gotaways. that means those migrants by an agent or through surveillance peer but that doesn't include the ones that were even spotted. so you can decrease that number dramatically. these people were coming into the united states throughout the united states. basically, under the radar. the concern there that this is not a border issue. this is an issue for the entire united states. my concern is some of these migrants are working for a cartel. you will see an increase in cartel groups in the united states. the other thing, how many of these gotaways were actually carrying fentanyl? fentanyl has a number one threat

to our country and kills thousands and thousands of americans. this is truly an emergency, truly a crisis we need to get a handle on the situation. we are not doing that yet. >> carley: absolutely. the latest i.c.e. data, dhs released people with criminal records. dhs released pending charges against them. why would they release those people? >> you know, i don't know. that is very alarming. the people that are criminal in the country, they came from they will be criminal here, no doubt. so, that will have a horrible impact on the country. the other thing i have been saying is all of these migrants coming to the united states, all of these criminals you just mentioned, that is going to impact the state and local law enforcement and throughout the united states.

you will see state and local law enforcement handling a federal problem. there was no good news with all of this. it is terrible. so i think we are seeing in el paso stop the bleeding. come up with your plans. they say they have a plan, but we need to stop the bleeding. that is what they are doing in el paso. the national guard, texas dps border patrol are doing a tremendous job on the border in el paso. >> todd: robert almonte, we appreciate it. the investigations including the probe of botched withdrawal from afghanistan after biden. it is rejecting document request until the republicans take the house majority next week writing, "congress has not allocated such authority to members of congress who are not committee chairman command the house has not gone over the certain rules or other 18th

deal. he did say, listen, we have documents and alters' request and there may be a lot of them, but all we have to do is delete the day and resubmit. it is more effort from the biden administration to annoyed republicans than anything else. >> todd: it is an attempt to buy time but how much time are they buying? we are going into a holiday week in the list. again, three days and they come back on the third once everybody gets sworn in the cut-and-paste. but let's focus what the topics are and not just under biden. these topics we want answers to, covid fonds, where did the covid puns go? democrats where did the airlines specifically southwest and that is a question people want answer to and money spent in afghanistan? literally created this huge infrastructure in afghanistan and give it to the taliban. that cost money too. where did that money go? all of these questions are about

♪ ♪ >> todd: a southern california sheriff's deputy shot and killed yesterday during a traffic stop. a suspect with a long, violent criminal history. picking up on the left-hand side of your screen was killed in a shoot-out with officers after crashing during a high-speed chase. cordero joined the force in 2018. the cop killer with prior risk for kidnapping, robbery and a k-9 cop come a stabbing of him and should never be on the streets.

>> instead of sentencing 25 years to life, the judge lowered his bail allowing him to be released. he was come again, rested for failing to appear at his sentencing and additional criminal charges. that same judge released him again. he would not be here today if the judge had done her job. >> todd: a massive line of squad cars escorting cordero's remains to the office were dozens lined up to pay respect. cordero, a ray of sunshine was just 32 years old. a manhunt in georgia accused of killing a sheriff's deputy there. the shooting occurred in atlanta yesterday morning as the officer was minutes from making it home from work. and discover the fallen officer lying dead in his car. the 24-year-old victim his name is being held until his family was notified only had a shield, carley.

>> carley: record-setting crime rates and it comes as the police departments face staffing shortages and say their hands are tied thanks to soft-on-crime policies implemented by liberal district attorneys. joining me now is our police panel sergeant betsy smith the spokesperson for the national police association, a founder of blue lives matter in new york city and chicago ultimate and chicago police officer anthony napolitano joins me. sergeant smith come i will start with you because you see crime in major cities and i'm sure these numbers come as no surprise to you. they are not even empress but a representation of lives lost and destroyed. looking towards 2023, how do we make things better? >> well, what we are going to have to do is stop the vilification of american law enforcement officers. we have been so demonized and a

new study came out with 54 million police citizens interactions this year, less than 2% involved in a sort of coarse whatsoever. but yet, you have this continuing demonization of the law enforcement profession. so what do we have? record retirements, record resignations and you cannot get people to come to this profession. we have two police officers murdered in the last 24 hours and two more critically stabbed. you guys talk about all of this so we can't get people to come to this profession. and yet, we have woke das and judges that won't do their jobs. it is all leading to absolute chaos on the streets. because when cops are crime bidcitizens we have rape, robbey and so many other crimes on the rise and they do nothing about it. >> carley: 350 police officers

were shot this year and 60 have been killed and 60,000 police officers were assaulted this year alone. what comes to mind when you hear numbers like this? >> the cops are going out there and doing their job every single day. but the problem is when we allow our district attorneys to put bad guys on the street that did this for a living. we will continue to have these problems. things need to change. we have to start having the conversation and we need people out there who will care about the victims first. >> carley: anthony, we talked about this on the show but that illinois law that will nearly eliminate cash bail is going to be implemented in just a couple of days. what is chicago going to look like when that goes into effect? >> it is going to get worse. 5,000 people shot in the last four years. we called at the safety act and not the safety act.

but the ray of sunshine though is the county over here has submitted to the court systems that this is unconstitutional. right now, they have won that pushed to the higher court systems and hopefully it abolishes this entire safety act and gets rid of it completely. if anyone endorses it, should destroy the mayors in their house because i don't know how they can look at themselves. >> carley: amazing it is called safety act when it will do quite the opposite. sergeant smith, it has been two years since defund the police movement but are you noticing respect for law enforcement returning with the communities? >> well, you know a pulling by several different organizations shows america has never lost faith in the american law enforcement officers. our approval continues to arise. most people want more police officers. most people want their police departments refunded. most people respect and trust

america law enforcement. but it is this false narrative, this small percentage of people who keep saying we are the problem. cops are not the problem. and we need to be able to go out and do our jobs. it is not just enough to refund the police. we have got to lift up law enforcement and restore the professions respect and honor in this country. so that we can go out and protect the people here that is our job. that's what we want to do. >> carley: so well said. joseph reflecting this past year and started off with tragic shooting death of the officer jason rivera anthea images of the police officers flooding the streets of new york city to show support but to say enough is enough. we are the good guys ain't demand respect. since then, has anything changed for the better? >> yeah commit as. it seems like officers are coming more and more everyday

and knowing number one job to make sure that they go home at the end of the day. if the same time, continuing to keep the community safe. >> carley: anthony, you were a chicago police officer and now you are in older. that is an interesting position to be in. do you ever feel like you go to city or town council meetings and other people are trying to school you or teach you lessons on law enforcement? how do you handle those situations? >> pretty much laugh at them. their only claim to fame they did right along one or two times. they've never walked on the police officer shoes. a lot of them don't try to question what i've seen. they know that i have been a police and firefighter and worked in the toughest neighborhoods in the state of chicago. i called him out every chance i can. it is this progressive socialist movement to destroy and defend the police department but we

red hots. this is terrible, tell us what happened. good morning, and thank you for having me carley and todd. i was home on christmas day with my family and i started getting information from my children through social media that there has been looting and robbing and crime going on on the avenue district here and i was in shock. i couldn't believe what i seen when i dialed in. my security system from home, i sold thousands of people looting the store, mind sells sneakers and apparel and actually using two real dollies to take the sneakers out by the case and

cars, vehicles, suvs pulling into the parking lot. then i started watching my interest doors closely just breaking that not my restaurant because i had nothing to offer. but, unfortunately i spent my christmas night just watching. eventually by 7:00 p.m., they smashed out my glass when they couldn't get the doors open. at that time, they proceeded to ransack and steal anything of value, money, coin money, cash registers, destroying and stealing the pos systems. >> carley: that is awful. >> thin hours later, it happened again. you know, i don't blame the police. the police are in a terrible position with a natural disaster and everybody is trying to save lives. but my restaurant is only 50 yards from a police station.

and i called them directly. i wanted them to send one officer to stop what was going on. and i'm not blaming them. i am just stating it is frustrating for me. and i just see a part of society, what i call old trail lawlessness like i've never seen before. >> todd: imagine, on christmas morning. christmas day, watching this transpire. do you have an estimate as to the total number of damage in the amount of money stolen from your place? >> i do. it will just say it is between $10,000.20000. and i'm talking about equipment and not even getting into specifics over cash. the adjoining store, i don't want to speak out of turn but i heard they lost $500,000 in inventory on sneakers and sweat suits and different outfits that

are high-priced peer that was their main target. i think i was just an additional opportunity. for those people that made entrances and it was being done for food and things of that nature, that is just ridiculous. you know? of all places they chose me, and i've been there 22 years. b3 start at this restaurant a half-mile down the road in 1967. he had to close the store because of crime back then. >> carley: carl, i'm so sorry. we had a clear shot of the looters faces and maybe we can even pull it back up. do you think they will get caught? have i got caught? the city of buffalo created anti-looting detail because of all of this. so it does seem like the city is taking this seriously? >> yes, they are. i have a background in law enforcement, so i have quite a plant security systems that

were able to pull very good coverage. and i feel like it is important to go back and say this neighborhood on the east side is predominantly african american. they are wonderful people. it is a wonderful community. and they are not to blame. are they going to catch them? absolutely. i can tell you the past three to four nights i sat before i got home, and i was getting instant messages on facebook of people from the community telling me exactly who did it. i shared this information with three detectives yesterday. and they have a task force sitting down with me. i guarantee you, they will get caught. but i'm also going to guarantee you, there is no punishment. this is the problem, we have they'll reform and deepening the police departments working on and no real punishment for the actions of what is going on. and so, what is the deterrent to?

>> carley: southwest airlines trying to get back to normal today after a holiday meltdown that left countless american stranded. >> todd: but those promises are ringing hollow for folks booked on 39 flights already canceled today. expect that number to rise, not to mention customers told earlier this week they cannot rebook their flights until after

the new year. claudia with the latest, claudia. >> todd and carley, we will see how this plays out. this upcoming holiday weekend after slashing two-thirds of its schedule in recent days, including more than 2300 flight yesterday. southwest is promising a return to normal operations today, but recovering from the so-called meltdown of 2022 won't be quick or easy after southwest canceled some 13,000 flights since december 22nd. impacting more than a million passengers. many still trying to get reignited with their luggage while the airline blamed storms and stranded out a position to operate flights. industry analysts blame southwest for using outdated communication and logistics technology. and a litter scolding airline executives, transportation secretary pete buttigieg promised "the department will use the fullest extent of its

investigative and enforcement powers to hold southwest accountable if it fails to reimburse passengers." but buttigieg is taking heat from progressive lawmakers who said he is not doing enough to penalize airlines that cancel flights, even though the same carriers including southwest take billions of dollars in government support. the democratic congress woman tweeted, "this mess with southwest could have been avoided. we need bold action to which buttigieg's husband responded, "zero tweets on his timeline about leadership and outdated the system." that is politics" the airport lounges over christmas holiday come at the same group of people executives are depending on to get the planes back on schedule. passengers flying southwest this holiday weekend hoping things really are on track, and they actually get to where they need
