academy on friday. working outside the security screening zone. that allowed a 19-year-old suspect to wage in unprovoked attack. all are expected to be okay. it did prompt another officer to fire a shot at the suspect he was struck in the shoulder he was taken for treatment. detectives are investigating whether the suspect was a recently radicalized islamic extremists. that is due to some troubling online posts that were found. >> these officers responded in a professional manner. i must say, even after the incident took place, the responding officers made sure the scene was under control. all three officers are in stable condition.

mooney. good morning. great to talk to you. i know you know so much about popes. you've written books about them in the past. what are your reflections? >> we are sad, but you have to remember when the pope does it means he will meet his maker. carley: joyous. >> yes. you have to try to understand the depth of his intellect. either chance to interview him about 20 years ago when he was still a cardinal. in that interview he spoke mildly and lovingly terms about people, about the people he wanted to take care of and about their relationship with god. it was a stunning stunning performance. all we were doing was sitting at his residence talking. carley: what was he like during that interview? >> conservative and very strict.

the world and theology than does pope francis. when the time came in 2013, he announced that his physical and mental abilities were no longer up to the task of being pope and therefore he was going to resign. it makes me wonder if there are many other world leaders that may want to take a cue from that. carley: i hear you there. i think that's a very good segue into what we will talk about now. vladimir putin and xi jinping held a virtual meeting on friday i had at the in person visit to moscow in the new year. xi jinping said this. regarding relations with russia. this is on friday. this is xi jinping quote. in the face of the difficult and far from unambiguous international decision we are ready to build up strategic cooperation with russia, provide each other with development opportunities and be global partners for the benefit of the

peoples of our countries and in the interest of stability throughout this world. these two countries have grown much closer together in recent years. really since president biden became the president of the united states. how concerned should we all be about this? >> we just saw some great football last night. xi jinping and vladimir putin remind me of two guys on a team that was a big favor to win. they are in the huddle and they are looking at each other saying what went wrong? it's your fault. no, it's your fault. vladimir putin is trying to figure out how to save his reputation and life. xi jinping has been greeted finally with protests from his own people. it is not happened before. he really does not know how to react to it. he has taken back some of his covert rules. he said production will start back up again. then nothing happens. carley: the world leaders at some of their weakest points

individual that committed these crimes. our investigation may gather more information. we are still putting this picture together. it does not stop just because we make an arrest. actually, it begins. todd: they believe he acted alone as they still search for the murder weapon. the 28-year-old phd student will appear in pennsylvania court on tuesday where his attorney said he will waive extradition. we are joined by a crime scene expert now. we know this crime scene will be very critical to the investigation. the investigators planned on releasing that crime scene. then there was a court order that said they had to halt that release of the crime scene. what do you expect to come from that evidence as we know key is a criminal justice major, he knows how crime scenes work.

they also said he was messy and made some mistakes. what do you think they captured from that crime scene? >> i think incident important they stop the cleanup effort. you want the defense to have an option to go in to do their own testing in their own work. we gnocchi made mistakes. if they got his dna, we know they cross check that with familiar dna so they know it was him. and then they found the car they were looking for was also the same car that was registered to him. what they will do at this point is where this dna was founded kenny explained why it was found where they retreated from. for example, was it on the bedspread, was it on the victim's clothing, not just doorknobs. a windowsill or the sliding glass door. it will be imperative to this investigation. >> this person is innocent until

proven guilty. talk about the preservation of that crime scene. being the expert that he is in our criminal justice system, i can see him going back and forth saying that the crime scene was perhaps contaminated. >> let's be real clear. yes, he has studied and yes he has a level of expertise that most people don't, but you cannot learn from a textbook how to actually commit a murder in action. you can read all you want to about bundy or gacy or delmer, but when you walk into a home in the dark and start to stab someone, you don't get that from a textbook. did he make mistakes? there is no question about it. lawrence: i think you just hit the nail on the head right there. he was so arrogant. the chat room post, his research posted online.

this is a guy that thought he could get away with it because he had studied how crimes are committed. >> he thinks he is the smartest person in the room. that actually turned out to be something that hurt what he was trying to do. look at this. studying ted bundy. he went further and made cachet's of weapons with tarps and shovels and firearms. he thought he could go into other states didn't commit these murders from seattle to alaska. the mistake he made was by using the victim's atm card where he is now on video. again, these mistakes will be made. if you did not wear a glove, if you did not anticipate that the knife would get slippery when the blood saturated it. you have to hold them with your nondominant hand. that knife could slip. you could stab your own self and your nondominant hand during your dominant hand if you come off the knife completely.

the conference supports kevin mccarthy for speaker. when we had our conference elections back in november he received 85% of the vote. i come along with the vast majority of my colleagues, will be voting for kevin whether it is one ballad or 100 ballots. i think for my colleagues that have been holding out so far, kevin has been negotiating in good faith to address their concerns on the rules. the rest of us are open to those rule changes so long as they in good faith support kevin. ultimately, cooler heads will prevail. i do think he will have the requisite number of votes to become speaker. we will see what happens on tuesday. todd: the american people elected republicans to be in charge of the house because they want change. they are not happy with the way the country is going. your soon-to-be colleague put out the following five priorities. irs funding meaning undoing the

individuals that joe biden wants to put going after the common person, energy production, energy, crime and abortion. of those priorities, which one do you think you will attack first? >> listen, i think we said on day one we would defund the 87,000 irs agents. certainly, we will get to work on that. there is no question. i ran on securing our border, tackling our broken immigration system once and for all. these are the issues the american people elected the majority on. we need to get to work on it. get on board and support kevin for speaker so we can get to work on the american people. stop the biden agenda dead in its tracks. >> every single pole, they are tired of fighting in congress. you have to convince a lot of

democrats to vote for you in order to win your race in a heavy heavy blue state like new york. can we republicans convince democrats to come across the aisle to put forward legislation that helps all americans? >> there is no question. i won in a district with 70,000 more democrats. we defeated the chair of the d triple c. i did it by talking about the issues that matter to people regardless of their political party. affordability and public safety. if we put forward the agenda that we ran on and one on, the democrats will be stuck between a rock and a hard place. i think the senate in the white house will have to come to the table. that is my focus. i want to get to work on the issues we ran on, that we want on and that the american people expect us to govern on. >> it all begins on tuesday.
