grocery store. a source telling "the daily mail" "he's not stupid and he's been very careful." live from moscow, idaho, but the latest on this, dan, stopping his victims for weeks. what more can you tell us? >> well, we are getting a clear picture of bryan kohberger from people who knew him growing up in pennsylvania and also classmates of his and students at washington state university, which is 10 miles away from where we are here in moscow with the murders took place near the university of idaho. we are also getting more details about the days leading up to the arrest. arrested friday morning eastern pennsylvania and according to "the daily malcolm investigators had been tracking him for days and finally saw him in his white elan trip. the were looking for a vehicle and picked up on surveillance video with a nearby video. flew out to washington state and joined his son onto 2,000-mile road trip to pennsylvania in that car in early december. he was public defender that was shocked by the arrest and apparently asked the police if anyone else had been arrested. he's going to waive extradition at a court appearance on tuesday and his lawyer saying kohberger is eager to be exonerated. his family broke their silence late yesterday, "we have cooperated with law enforcement agencies to seek truth and presumption of innocence rather than judge unknown facts and make erroneous assumptions and we will let the legal process unfold as a family we will love and support her son and brother." classmates in the criminal justice phd program at wsu say he was keenly interested in the psychology of criminals, childhood friends say he was quiet, smart, and upward towards women.

proposal by mccarthy, which basically would allow a change of rule to allow any house member to force a vote to remove the speaker at any time. this is a demand for influential g.o.p. opponents because under the current rules the only membership and only members of house leadership able to do so. these are rules implemented under nancy pelosi, who's been in office forever. how will mccarthy's proposal, do you think, help his chances? >> his concession yesterday was to allow five members to move to vacate the chair, which would allow five members -- currently there is five saying they will not vote for him to file a motion. then you would have a motion to vacate the chair appear that it has been a sticking point of contention for the freedom caucus and these individuals who say they are refusing to vote for him. he conceded on that point and there was a call yesterday amongst the conference. after that and chad referenced it, nine, ten members think those concessions will not be enough.

so tomorrow, we will see where all these members are going to be. we know five for sure that her "no" and he can only lose four and alluded to will happen untl a speaker. sometimes it's taken days, some times ours, sometimes weeks. the majority of the house, kevin mccarthy won by over much -- the american people want to be unified in the american people want to be unified around a leader that will go against the biden administration and all of the leftist progressive policies of the democrats. that is what we need to show to america tomorrow not just unity but direction. >> we talked about five g.o.p. votes of dissent and it is a close call here. mccarthy as you know needs 218 votes and the republican majority, pretty slim majority in the house with 222 seats. of any additional defections

could actually jeopardize his chances. he faces a speaker election challenge from arizona republican representative andy biggs and matt gaetz, ralph norman, matt rosendale. they have all publicly expressed plans to vote against, as you mentioned. why are they so hell-bent to mccarthy from taking the speaker role? >> i don't know. may be personal animosity. i do know there are some policy issues. but again, you will not do find that person in the conference that 218 people can unite behind. only andy biggs ran against mccarthy and the conference race and lost 188-1:30 one. jim jordan would be great for the conference but he didn't run and he supporting mccarthy and trump is supporting mccarthy. there is a lot of conservatives like myself supporting mccarthy. i think he will do and govern conservatively when he has a conservative conference behind him to support him. i think it looks bad to the

american people on the very first day we take the majority back. we can't unify behind who are leader is together. we can have disagreements about policy, but let's have that behind closed doors and stay united appeared for the american people against the woke policied progressive ideologies. >> julia: we have to be unity in the party they won january 3rd my gosh, get it together and the other thing mccarthy has been strong against his illegal immigration. he's gone to the border and invited the president to go to the border. that speaker as you heard of will hold news conferences on the border hoping the white house will actually watch them to see for themselves the border crisis. how do you think his stance on the border is turning off these g.o.p. reps because his tough stance on the border with retract them to be speaker >> that is the number one issue americans are concerned about right now is the open border policy of this administration. i can tell members on the judiciary committee will do everything within our power when

>> julie: welcome back. we are learning more now about the man accused of attacking three new york city police officers with a machete on new year's eve. i high level police source tells fox news the fbi counterterrorism task force watching the suspect for weeks over concerns of extremist behavior. joining me now retired nypd lieutenant joe, good to see you this morning. thank you for coming in. let me ask you first off, what do we know about the condition of the three officers? one was a rookie cop the very first day on the job. >> well, they are in stable condition right now, but you know, everybody is saying thank god for them. but mental scores this will

leave, especially on a rookie like that. it will be long-lasting. so thank god they were able to take the suspect out in a manner of speaking and save anybody else from harm that they may have posed. but this is a very scary individual who was on the radar that stepped up a little bit. >> julie: let's talk about him a little bit the suspect a 19-year-old american citizen and he was on the terror watch list because apparently his aunt alerted the fbi telling them that trevor told them he wanted to join the taliban and researching the taliban ng hod pier at the fbi were monitoring them but what more should they have been doing? should they be monitoring his social media? he walked into times square but what happened there? >> everybody is condemning the fbi for certain things but let's look at this from the whole

picture if they were monitoring social media, how much social media letting them monitor? are they giving them the full picture? i think it is social media's responsibility to step up their game and assist the fbi and local law enforcement and let these individuals be put on the radar sooner and a broader scale than they have right now. if this guy is showing this manifest in showing this on social media, then it should be more than monitoring him. you get somebody like this, they should follow him if they have to getting into his head a little bit more before these things happen. like i said, thank god the cops are okay right now but this could be something way worse >> julie: is there anything more the fbi could have done in terms of surveilling this individual based on the statements that he had may in what he was wanting to do? go to the middle east and fight

against the united states spirit is there something more they could have done? i'm not condemning but is there something more that could have been done? >> i think they could step up their game a little bit more. let's look at what the fbi is doing these days, based on the political game of the day is and watching the school boards. but they should be one individual in the fbi that monitors these individuals appear they do work closely with law enforcement but how this guy fell through the cracks is beyond me. but i think what they should do when an individual like this is get into it a little bit heavier and say he's on the radar, and it means so many different things. when somebody be on the radar, you should go to the house, get into the computer, get into the local entities in school, get into the school complained out what is going on. but you need to end by these

individuals first and put some pressure to find out what they are doing before these events occur. >> all of that makes a lot of sense when what you just said right there. but not just new york city that had violence on new new year's eve. philadelphia nine people shot, california two people dead, four wounded and another shooting in alabama leaving one person dead, and, nine others injured. when you look at these numbers, what do you attribute these acts of violence to? is it lack of sentencing laws are what is happening here? >> what is everything. it is the sentencing here in new york city. it is the bail reform, ada and the brick that do not do their job to let these criminals backe street. and they need repercussions for their actions. and i will give this as an example, and they have let the

♪ ♪ >> 2023 coming in with a bang as another winter wall up on the move across a dozen states in the west and midwest. it has brought rain, snow, gusty winds to arizona. take a look at this grand canyon area where temperatures have dropped below freezing. meteorologist adam klotz is live with the latest forecast, adam, freezing in the grand canyon, how about that? >> winter weather a round of winter weather moving across the west and a few spots cold across the country and we continue to see it. actually a couple of rounds the next few days but currently out there on satellite radar, a lot of these places high elevation and that is where you see the snow but fairly widespread across the southwest with the intermountain up west. some of the planes is where we

currently see the snow. this is one round of what is going to be several rounds of snow. we have winter weather advisory stretching across the entire region across nevada and again, out into the planes stretching across the mountains of colorado into wyoming in all areas with wintry like weather. now the future track, round after round and we have said northern california town of rain over the last several days. there will be more of that especially wednesday and thursday as we see another good push to sweep across the west again. you will see more snow because of this spirit so that winter weather and that snow continues to fall. rainfall forecast i told you the ground is saturated coastal areas and everywhere you see the orange colors but another three to 5 inches rain on saturated ground and flooding will happen easily. it becomes snow in a lot of spots and may be 4 feet of snow in the higher elevation so my yes we are tracking winter weather and it will last for a

debt ridden america" our national debt is massive. no bigger than annual gdp, the biden administration double down on the spending to expand government in a way that is unsustainable way beyond without private economy can maintain. that led to high inflation and rising interest rates, both of which are causing tremendous pain for families and businesses. what say you on 2023 just as we thought interest rates were going to start rolling back? they push through this massive omnibus bill which will make that impossible. >> hi, julie happy new year. good riddance to 2022. 2022 was just a terrible year for the economy. my colleagues at the heritage foundation have calculate the average family lost about $4,000 in income, julie come in terms of purchasing power because of biden inflation. then you add these problems we have with the economy, the

raising interest rates and so on, so a terrible year. now, i have got to say this shame on republicans, shame on democrats in congress what they did last week, julie with $2 trillion spending bill with republican friends watching the show. your job in 2023 is to cut government spending as much as you possibly can. it is a cancer cell. the reason we saw this massive inflation over biden he spent $4.1 trillion over the amount we would normally spend. of course, this caused a forest fire of higher inflation. the big question for 2022, julie, will republicans take control of the house in about a week's time so, will they get through in terms of getting control of this budget? what happen at the end of 2022 with chuck schumer, mitch mcconnell making this horrific deal, it does not bode well for 2023 and terms of getting the finances straight

and getting near a balanced budget. >> julie: "the wall street journal" has a headline that reads "more robust shows signs of cooling in late 2022. federal reserve projects unemployment to rise during the current year. what do you think of the cooling of job growth? that is a bad thing. jobs have actually been strong despite the fact there was not much incentive for people to work. >> julie, you are exactly right. so the one silver lining in 2022 is we did have a healthy jobs market, 10 million surplus jobs pure the big problem in 202 is businesses getting workers bs partly because as we show in our study, people 75,000, $80 a year not to work. but you have the opposite problem coming and you're exactly right. i talked to the biggest employers in the country that runs the largest hiring agency in the country and he told me starting in late november, early

december, the number of employers looking for workers just fell off of a cliff. we will see, unfortunately, rise in the unemployment rate. and my advice to people watching the show, if on the sideline and not working right now, you may be thinking about getting a job, julie, get a job while they are out there. i think we will see that window slams shut. don't forget, there is another part of this equation, julie. the fed raised interest rates six or seven times in 2022. they are probably not done yet. that will cause pressure on the housing market. and you are already seeing a real slow down in housing. look, i think we can skate around the recession. i don't want to be a debbie downer here, but conquered them at congress manning is killing the economy. we can't move forward 7%, 80% inflation. >> julie: first of all, less people have an actual savings account like a healthy savings
