with the latest. todd? >> steve, ainsley and brian, good morning. buffalo bills providing us when an update on damar hamlin's status overnight tweeting damar hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game vs. the bengals. his heart beat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the u.k. medical center for further testing and treatment. is he currently sedated and listed in critical condition. the 24-year-old safely got up briefly after tackling receiver tee higgins before dropping to the turf. an ambulance was brought out onto the field. before he was rushed off hamlin receiving cpr for several minutes leaving many players visibly shaken. some of his teammates in tears after this chilling sequence. both teams coming together for on field prayer before returning to locker rooms. the game was suspended for an hour after ultimately being postponed. the nfl holding a conference call with officials from the league and players association just after midnight where they said the focus is on hamlin's

status. his parents were both at the game and were brought down from the stands. several outlets reporting they rode with their son in the ambulance to the hospital. fans lighting candles outside the medical center overnight as prayers for hamlin and his family pour. in bills quarterback josh allen tweeting please pray for our brother while tee higgins the bengals receiver involved in the coalition with hamlin writing i'm praying that you pull through, bro. and football hall of famer and bills great jim kelly never before i have witnessed anything like this. the game doesn't matter, praying for damar and his family. some players staying in cincinnati as hamlin remains hospitalized. no word yet on when or if the game against the bengals will be continued. the focus now squarely on hamlin's health and meantime in the hours after his collapse, the bills mafia bengals fans and folks across our nation donating more than $3 million to damar hamlin's charity toy drive for kids in his hometown.

situation in washington, d.c. and steve, i want to let you know that anticipating this moment i started the negotiation with leader mccarthy back in the summer to say, look, the status quo cannot continue. everybody knows that washington is broken. let's talk about what we can do to change what that is. but, in the summertime, leader mccarthy wasn't really interested in talking to me because he figured we were going to have this huge red wave. i went back to him in the fall and said hey, let's talk about how we run things and how things d how we can change this the status quo. everybody knows this is the swamp. they call it the uniparty, whatever. let's make some changes. but he wasn't interested at the time. the only time he became mildly interested was right after the election. i was in here on wednesday morning after the election and it was clear that we were going to have a very thin majority. then he was interested in talking. steve, kevin mccarthy has known for months now that he doesn't have 218. yet, he has dragged us, the conference, the republican

conference, congress, and the country up until the brink of this moment. we went to him last night and said, look, we have got a deal that can get you 218. i took one of the guys that has been never mccarthy since the beginning with me to the meeting. he rejected. he said, look, we want to make committees more representative. and he said but i need names you have got to be specific. i gave him names. he rejected that. we said on policy, what do you want to do? well, we have a border plan. the texas border plan that all of the texas delegation has agreed. to say. >> steve: congressman. >> go ahead. >> steve: so you had a meeting last night. according to punch bowl what you said is one of the things you wanted was you wanted to be able to place the house freedom caucus members on committees before the speaker election and he said no. i can't do that. >> well, steve, this is how this works. >> steve: did that happen. >> prior to the speaker selection. once the speaker becomes elected

then promises aren't kept and there's nothing you can do about it. you have got to know and i'm sure you do that the speaker's position is incredibly powerful. all committees who is on committees who chairs committees. and the things. the policies that come out of committees. >> steve: okay. >> kevin has been in leadership for 14 years. >> and nobody came to this town saying washington is doing great. we don't want to change anything. it's the status quo. the only way to change the status quo is to either change how we do things or change the people that are doing the things. >> steve: you made it very clear, congressman, you don't want kevin mccarthy because for a myriad of reasons that you have just given over the last two minutes. if kevin mccarthy is not your person, who is it? >> well, i would say, first of all, i would say this, steve. up until last night and including at this moment, i still can vote for kevin mccarthy if we can come to an agreement that changes the status quo. >> steve: then, congressman,. >> never kevin camp that's number one. >> steve: hold on, what is the one thing you want.
