two accept it as normal or compassionate is it not. it's a big mistake. hope it changes. we are out of time until tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. there. is a lot going on. in the meantime have a wonderful evening with the ones you love. sean hannity follows this hour. we will see you tomorrow. >> welcome to hannity granite we have a new year, new show. tonight we are going to mix it up. we need your help. it's time for you to grade me, yours true. >> tell me what you like about the show, what you don't liking about the show. what i did right. what i did wrong. don't hold back. now is your time to sound off. live on this show. call the radio team tomorrow between 3-6:00 eastern.

we will hear from you live at the end of each show starting tonight. also tonight the "hannity it hot seat" is back. stay tuned i will go one-on-one with one lucky liberal. and stephen a. smith is going to join us with more on the injury to jamar hamilton. he and his family in our nation's prayers tonight. we begin this fox new year with a fox news alert. it's day one of the congress, how republicans are on the verge of becoming a total clown show if not careful. despite the cheering of the democrats and the media, it's not a dyer situation yet. here where we are. at this hour a contentious battle for speaker is under way. after falling short of the 2718 votes needed kevin mccarthy is
6:02 pm
in the fight of his career way small group of law makers standing in the way. many are pushing for jim jordan to be the speaker of the house. jim jordan is already supporting mckargt.y. >> from what purpose does the gentleman from ohio ask for recognition. >> i rise to show support for -- >> the differences we have between joyce and jordan or bigs and bacon they pail in comparison to the difference between us and the left which unfortunately controls the other party. i think sketch mccarty is the right guy to lead us. i do or i wouldn't stand up here giving this speech. >> jim jordan said he doesn't want to be the specker of the house and wouldn't accept it even if it was drafted. he voted to make mccarthy speaker today with others, many
6:03 pm
others. now tonight i'm putting aside my frustration but for those who are still worried about supporting mccarthy i want you to consider this tonight. sometimes you have to think through politics. mccarthy has publicly laid out his commitment to american plan. that is the america first mag a agenda i know many of you like. second mccarthy vowed to investigate the biden family financial deals. a investigation into president joe biden not just hunter. they will investigate much more including the politicized fbi and weaponized department of justice. they will deal with wide open boders to the south. he has publicly committed to blocking biden's socialist agenda using every means of his disposal to reassure those law
6:04 pm
makers worry about his commitment this. is something worth paying attention to that few are talking about. mccarthy has concede today very low threshold what is calderon a motion to vacate. only five republican law makers can toers a vote at anytime to remove mccarthy from the speakership. many opposing him today asked for that very thing. then the bar was raised again and again and again. the bar keeps shifting this. is a powerful insurance policy. if kevin doesn't keep promises a level of accountability that nancy pelosi didn't agree to in her latest stint as speaker. all of these interests i ask for the hold out overs and over again. what are you looking for? what would better serve your constituents at home? i have asked many members for weeks about this. i rarely got an answer. i mostly got radio silence. a lot of crickets.
6:05 pm
it's time to get serious with a small majority in the house. it's critically important for americans to come to get i remember as an important check and balance to the biden a administration and the socialistic party. what would ronald reagan say? what would ronald reagan do? he famously told his staff, the person who agrees with you 7807% of the time is a friend and ally, not a 207% straightedder. republicans would be wise to heed that advice. 178 republicans are determined at this point to block mccarthy. committee assignments are delayed. investigations are stalled. now this is not a big deal as of today. if we lose a day or two. if this fight goes on and on for day after day, week after week and the republican agenda stalls out forget about holding biden
6:06 pm
accountable for pretty much anything. the country will be angry and frustrated and feel be drayed. you can forget about exposing the border, the bias and corruption. is the fbi politicized? is the doj being weaponized? forget about holding dr. fauci's feet to the fire. i think the time has come for that. they're now reporting to vote for democrat hakim jeffrey it's they don't get their way. needless to say that would be a massive be trail to every person in the country voting for a a republican as one party democratic rule would continue. at the end of the day the american people voted for governance, they voted for oversight, they voted for checks, they voted for balances. they didn't vote for republicans to go to dc and bicker and
6:07 pm
grandstand. with the right to vacate and motion to vacate available to them there is a way to hold kevin mccarthy accountable if he doesn't hold his promises. ultimately i think republicans will come together and work will continue in the near future. hopefully sooner than later. with the latest our senior core spendence chaired promise and he has the hitchhikers guide to the mess we saw today and tomorrow. >> good evening, sean. mccarthy is 07-37 on each vote to become speaker. mccarthy is beginning to lose support. donald from florida dropped his backing. he voted for jim jordan. >> it's not clear he has the votes. it's pretty clear now. it's getting tougher in that room. i think if you're asking members to vote over and over and over again to wear people down, i
6:08 pm
think it has the opposite effect. >> the house is paralyzed for now. incoming minority leader hakim jefferies out polled mccarthy on all three votes for speak tore day. >> the republican conference apparently has been taken over by extreme maga republicans. to an extent there are reasonable individuals on the other side of the isle with no way out. >> mccarthy opponent matt gaetz said if mccarthy can't get the votes in ten years he he's not getting them over night. don bacon is calling the mccarthy opponents the taliban 20. it's about the math. here is what mccarthy must guard again. atrition of support and republicans not present to vote that. could change the math for mccarthy to win. if tkw-rbgs op members don't
6:09 pm
vote or vote present hakim jefferies could prevail. >> a vote present is a vote for jefferies, thank you, chad. now we bring in former speaker of the house, fox news contributor, newt gingrich. think america will tolerate a day or two of in fighting, back and forth squabbling. here is what i don't understand. we know where mccarthy stands in terms of investigations. he's investigating the fbi, doj, origins of covid, with draw of afghanistan, and joe biden himself and the money that he and his family made. on the commitments to america he has a very specific agenda. then you have the motion to vacate he has agreed to with only five members needed to get it started. that seems like a insurance policy. why such resistence? >> you know i can't explain it.
6:10 pm
i understand that you could have one, two, three people that are crazy. the fact that you have nineteen people vote three times and donald joined he didn't have the votes yet. even then that means you have 207 people voting against not voting against mccarthy. they're voting against the house republican conference. the conference was 10-1 in favor of mccarthy on the floor. he got 857% of the vote. between he and andy gibbs in the conference itself as to who should be the speaker. these people are taking on their shoulders. setting a standard that any five members of the conference could go out and destroy everything. lincoln and his first inaugural warned the problem of secession is once you establish the principle than everybody can
6:11 pm
secede from everybody. these five people need to take a deep breath tonight and ask themselves do they want to send the signal that every five people in the conference can screw up everything for whatever reason. believe me i know from personnel conversation that's last night three of them went in and is presented kevin mccarthy with 30 sph-l different demands. most involving personnel advancement. they're not talk ing about ideology or principles. they talk about who gets which committee who gets to be chairman. things that are a clear effort to blackmail the rest of the conference. think the rest of the conference understands this is a core decision. do the 20027 win or the 220 win? in a free society as you can't give into terrorists and hostage takers. you can't allow them to take the
6:12 pm
conference hostage and win. i hope that in a conference tomorrow morning after people have a good night sleep and have a chance to talk, i hope they can find some key policy. not patronage, but a key policy position to bring back enough of the members to get this over with on the first ballot tomorrow. i'm personally not all that shaken. we had nine ballots to pick a speaker in 179237. we had 1373 to pick a speaker in 1855. this isn't unprecedented. even in the case of p*es pelosie had to negotiate people. currently this isn't a disaster. >> if these people don't take seriously their responsibility to colleagues. not to kevin but colleagues in the conference then i think it could grow into a disaster. >> and kevin has a lot of people
6:13 pm
he represents here. you have 203 votes earlier today. he needs 218. now the question s you're right. what exactly are they holding out for? i have asked people, talked to members. those who are, that were telling me they would oppose kevin, i said what did you want. why not meet with him, make a list? i can't tell you how often i heard nothing back from them. or if i heard one thing and then kevin said yes to it, like for example in the case of a motion to vacate. then the bar got higher. then the bar shifted. then the bar changed. at what point does the american people and republicans around the country say they have had enough with this. someone said to me this is a great exer ice of a democratic/republican action. americans will be inspired by it i said i beg to differ. i think they will get sick and
6:14 pm
tired of this pretty of the. >> i think a number of these so calderon insurgence, whatever you call them, they're actually putting their reelections at risk right now. people will look up and say how can you hold the entire party hostage. how can you hold the house hostage. who do you think are you to have this kind of authority. i talked with kevin early on and said just be aware, excuse me, last night they will come in with a whole new set. they came in last night with 30 additional demands. 307. thirty.that says i will vote noi want to tease and you play with you. think it's insulting to every member of the conference that stayed with kevin. a 203-207 choice. 2073 is a bigger number.
6:15 pm
i'm not sure twenty understand that yet maybe tomorrow they will. >> thank you, mr. speaker, for being with us. the hannity it hot seat. i know the leftists love the fighting on capitol hill. they may not want to cast stones from a glass house. one thing we can say for certain is the democratic party is a disaster filled to the brim with nothing but liars. bidens pledge not to raise taxes on the middle class. here are five taxes that went into effect in january. a multi billion dollar tax for those who power their homes with natural gas. a 12 billion-dollar tax on crude oil. a billion dollar tax on coal. a 71 billion-dollar tax on your 401k and retirement funds that had the worst years since 2008 last year and a corporate tax like that corporations won't pay

6:17 pm
is losing votes is disheartening. >> if you gloat about that let me ask you about this. 2022 was the worst year for the stock market since 2008. the cbo has found that biden's inflation cost the american household ten thousand dollars. joe biden promised he wouldn't raise taxes on those making under $400,000 a year, a couple. he raised taxes on natural gas, on crude oil, on coal, on peoples iras and pensions and corporate income tax that's means that awful that money will be paid for by those who make less than $400,000 a year. are you happy with joe's record and perform as in two years. isn't ten thousand dollars in biden inflation tax high? shouldn't he of kept a promise not to tax people making under four hundred thousand dollars a year?
6:18 pm
>> well, there was a lot in there. i will start with what we can in gree on. inflation is a huge problem and gas price spikes. it was a huge concern for every day americans. the economy was the number one issue for the elections. for republicans. not so for democrats. republicans didn't put up a viable alternative. they didn't have p policies for americans -- >> jessica, hold on who gets hurt the most with inflation. the poor, middle class, fixed income? when you tax oil, when you tax gas, when you tax coal, when you tax corporations, when you tax people who had the worst year in the stock market since 2008, those are all taxes joe biden and the democratic soerplists
6:19 pm
put in place. all of those taxes are impacting the very people that your fellow democratic socialists say they have the most compassion for. the poor, the middle class people on fixed incomes? the bottom line is joe biden lied to us. he went back on his promise. it was a big deal when george herbert walker said no taxes and then went back on his pledge. how come joe biden. you're a liberal democrat and an honest person, i have known you for years. why can't you say joe biden broke his promise hurting people, the poor, middle class and fixed income. >> i don't think that's really what happened here. first i don't identify as a democratic socialist and neither does joe biden. >> hold on, you admit he raised the taxes. >> no, hold on. there were a number of incentives built into being

6:21 pm
taxes on people making less than four hundred thousand. now he has raised taxes five different ways and more this. is the short list. that's okay with you. >> no it's not okay for people struggling to get by to have taxes raised. that's not what happened here. >> so joe biden people -- >> it's not, corporations are paying the lowest rate. >> can you acknowledge he broke his word. >> i'm in, the segment is over. i real, i don't see it that way. i think he offset a number of these plans by making sure that those -- >> offset a tax increase. did he give us a tax cut somewhere? where decut tabgszs and off set it. >> i -- honestly, sean. i need to look at the plans again. we were to talk about composting yourself. now we're back to tax plans. >> by the way can you at least
