facing that mathematical reality, kevin mccarthy can step aside and let somebody else do the job, acknowledging in the process that he's not the only person in congress capable of being speaker, or he can try and win over the people who oppose him, as you traditionally do in elections. you've got reservations about kevin mccarthy? you don't want to be ruled by a man who wears the arabian flag lapel pin? no problem. we get it. they're using threats and fear to force people to support the candidate. anyone who opposes kevin mccarthy, one his surrogates explained today, is, quote, an enemy, a, quote, terrorist. that's their mechanical. in a moment we'll tell you how that message has worked out. first tonight in the summer of

2016, the government transparency organization wikileaks released thousands of emails from the servers of the democratic national committee. those documents showed conclusively that hillary clinton partisans had worked to rig the democratic primary against her rival bernie sanders. it was obvious from the start that that email dump had come from an internal source, probably from a dnc staffer offended by the corruption of the clinton team. of course the democratic party couldn't admit. too embarrassing, too revealing. so instead in order to cover this wrongdoing, the clinton campaign claimed the russians hacked the servers. remember that? you may have believed it or not, but intel agencies in this country must have known at the time that it was not true. they would know, but they said nothing. they said nothing because blaming russia turned out to be a useful political tool. in fact, before long, it became the default response to every perceived disaster in

washington. hillary lost. why russia? hunter biden's laptop is here. russia. and so on and so on. so over time probably inevitably the inflated threat of russia became a pretext for everything bad, including censorship in this country. it's russian disinformation. shut it down. thanks to new reporting from matt taibbi we know the federal government's intelligence and law enforcement agencies enthusiastically joined the effort to censor the political speech of american citizens illegally. it was a sophisticated effort. at one point, for example, the state department released a report falsely claiming that thousands of twitter accounts were controlled by foreign governments. russia. and then unnamed sources in the intel world leaked scary headlines about russian disinformation running rampant on twitter. twitter deleted data pertinent

to the russian probes. and then there was a piece about advertising because of russia. it was a manufactured panic about russia. on the basis of that manufactured panic, lawmakers in washington demanded more censorship. >> the issue is not that the companies before us today are taking too many posts down, the issue is they're leaving too many dangerous posts up. in fact, they're amplifying harmful content so that it spreads like wildfire and torches our democracy. >> tucker: oh. too much speaking. your opinions are a threat to our, quote, democracy. that would be sitting united states senator ed marquee of massachusetts. not long after that tape was shot in november of 2020, congressman adam schiff of california, the chairman of the house intelligence committee

demanded that twitter censor any discussion about the house intelligence committee. quote, suppress any search result about committee staff, he demanded twitter. he was critical that a journalist had reported on schiff's connection to the whistleblower behind donald trump's impeachment. quote, suspend the many quotes, commanded schiff's office. this is illegal. it's openly unconstitutional. government officials cannot suppress speech. that's the bill of rights. even at twitter, executives seem to beto understand that. no, we don't do this t relied one twitter executive. ultimately they caved. in time, paul sperry was censored by twitter, along with thousands of others. twitter had effectively become a government propaganda outlet. how that happened, the effect it had on american electoral politics, is one of the most important stories of our time. as we said, we know about it because of matt taibbi, the

center of it, and he joins us tonight. matt, thanks for coming on. your extensive reporting on this, which is on twitter and on your substack, but to summarize, having looked at these documents for weeks now, how deep was the penetration of twitter by u.s. law enforcement and intel agencies? >> i think we can say pretty conclusively after looking at tens of thousands of emails over the course of these weeks that the government was in the censorship business in a huge way. that's i think proveable now. not just one agency. really every conceivable wing of the enforcement agencies of the u.s. government were in some way or another sending moderation requestses to twitter, and in many cases those requests were being fulfilled, coming from every, every place from the nsa to the nhs to fbi, dhs, even

what they call other government agencies, which i think is code for the cia. >> tucker: yeah, it is. >> reports from all over, from states, from police departments, everywhere. >> tucker: so that's prima facia illegal. it's unconstitutional. government cannot censor political speech. it could not be clearer. our assumption is that this was made possible because of hysteria about russian penetration of our politics. is that your read of it? >> absolutely, yeah. i think the thread that i put out yesterday traces the history of what happened, particularly in the fall of 2017. twitter somewhat naively thought they would not be sucked into the russiagate phenomenon, thought it would be facemask's problem alone, but when it started to become difficult for them politically, senator mark warner of virginia put pressure

on them, an email about, quote, keep producing material for them. ultimately twitter ended up caving. by the end of the year, they said publicly we will only remove content at our sole discretion. privately we will remove content identified by the united states intelligence committee as a foreign state actor. if the intel community says take it down, we'll take it down. >> tucker: and a lot of people censored were not foreign state actors. in one case you documented this was a journalist. a lot of different nonprofit organizations that purport to defend free speech. have any of them weighed in on this and raised holy hell? >> no. that's been a profound disappointment. you know, for me personally i gave to the aclu for years on

one of those sort of dyed in the wool liberals, grew up that way. i'm deeply disappointed. i think a lot people politically on that side of the aisle are missing the boat on this. they don't understand the gravity of the situation. they're thinking about this in partisan terms. it's not a partisan story. this is a story about the architecture of the intelligence community and law enforcement getting its hands on speech, on the ability for people to communicate with one another through platforms like twitter and facebook. they're doing this in a profound way, much more serious than i thought it was at the beginning of this story. >> tucker: twitter is a smaller player. you have facebook and google that dwarf it in size. i mean, we've got to assume those two companies are aspen trade as twitter has been -- are as penetrated as twitter has been, don't we? >> yes. there's evidence for that.

certainly we've seen they have weekly or monthly industry meetings with the dhs and the fbi. those included a number of companies, including facebook, in some cases wikipedia, pinterest, a whole series of companies included in these communications. how deep the penetration goes in those other companies i can't say, but i do know they had close communications. in twitter's case, the number of requests that came in was really overwhelming. your previous guest michael shellenberger talked about how they were paid $3 million by the fbi. they were underpaid. they were doing so much work for the government in terms of reviewing these documents that they should have been commented a lot more for their work. >> tucker: how can it be a free society or democracy if law enforcement and intel agencies are determining what we can say? >> well, people are hiding behind the fig leaf of, well, they didn't formally ask, they

didn't demand that you do it. how much of an ask is it really? how voluntary is it really when the cia, the dhs, comes to your company, presents you with an excel spreadsheet with thousands of names and say we assess these accounts are linked to the internet, foreign threat actors. >> tucker: there are many problems that beset american society. this is a simple one to fix. government agencies are not allowed to censor speech in the united states. i think it's an easy thing to remedy. we wouldn't know about it were it not for your efforts. thank you so much. a lot of drama in washington as we alluded at the outset. the house of representatives just reconvened 11 minutes ago to try once again to elect a new

that's what it is. anyone who suggestion differently is in some kind of disbelief. if you're a narcissist, you believe your opinion is so much more important than everyone else's, you keep going, and threaten to tear down the team for the benefit of the democrats just because of your own sense of self-importance. that's exactly what's happening here. we will not vote for anyone else but mccarthy. these people think they're stubborn? we're more stubborn. it's going to be so much worse. you know, they are enemies now. >> tucker: you may like kevin mccarthy or not. both are allowed. but no matter how you feel, you have to acknowledge, if you're being honest, that people who don't like kevin mccarthy have a reason for that. they have real concerns, real issues. but you'll notice that dan crenshaw didn't address any of those, none of them, instead he impugned their motive, their character, their intelligence, their moral standards.

over. if you listen to boebert, and never mccarthy talk, they're not looking for an offramp now, because they're having more fun than the democrats are. that's understandable. they're enthusiastic politicians. they're keeping their options are open. the options are open because they think they might be able to get something out of kevin mccarthy. when you stop and look at this -- if you take them seriously -- and i do take them seriously -- you ask yourself, okay, what's the problem here? it's simple. it's spending. that's the problem. the problem is spending. if kevin mccarthy could convince those 20 people that he was going to do something that was going to stop the spending then he could probably make headway. you know, last night, you mentioned a couple of really great ideas about -- about positions that, you know, that kevin mccarthy could offer. i would add a couple more. a couple more. one would be that he could make a vow, make this to the american

people, as well as democrats and republicans, that he's not going to put a single bill on -- spending bill on the floor that's not about one agency. they're going to vote on agency by agency. no more omnibussism. every bill he puts on the floor is going to include a 10% cut, just like everybody's employer has had to do in their private lives over the past couple years, just like every family household has had to do, had to cut spending by 10%. the second thing he could do, he could make the vow, if he puts a single bill on the floor that comes from mitch mcconnell and the senate, and chuck schumer, different from that, then they could recall him as senator. not another bill spending one dime on ukraine until we fix our own border. the minute we fix our own border, we can have another vote on this stuff, if you want. i hope it fails, but we can at

least have a vote on it. i think if mccarthy offered those two things, i think those could be real game changers for the people -- the holdouts who -- who have one problem, spending. >> tucker: i think that's right. the fact that we're sending billions a month to protect ukraine's borders while our own remain so open that we had to close a national park last weekend, because it was flooded with illegals, it's so offensive, such an insult to this country, if you can't do that, you -- i agree with you. charlie hurt, thank you for your analysis. you may remember, in the deep recesses of your brain, that creepy shop teacher in canada who decides to sexualize the kids in his shop class getting them involved in his weird fetish. the guy uses the name calo lemieux, and shows up to class wearing gigantic prosthetic breasts, emulating japanese

pornography. the school district and school board has defended this guy. a parent joins us to explain. sure appreciate you coming on tonight. thank you for having the bravery to make your position public. what is your position about this shop teacher? >> well, thanks for having me, tucker. we appreciate your interest in this. what we've done, we've asked the board to essentially do three things. we've asked them to apply the student dress code to the teachers, because one doesn't exist for the teachers. in our view, it's illogical and absurd that the teachers would be held to a lower standard than the students in terms of their attire. secondly, once we've established what that standard is, if the school board is creating exceptions from that standard we want to know specifically what those exceptions are.

then thirdly, we would like the school board to cease and desist from interfering with the right of the parents to discuss this matter. they've repeatedly done that in school council meetings since the beginning of the year. >> tucker: this reveals their priorities, much more interested in protecting this guy's sexual journey than they are with the kids. shouldn't they be concerned with the kids that go to the school? >> i do agree with that. this is an issue about gender identity and expression. human rights by their nature are complex, but gender identity and expression are relatively new grounds introduced into code in 2012. we don't have a lot of jurisprudence or direction from the tribunal or courts. they've taken an overly risk

averse approach to this issue. they have a diversity inclusion mandate, and as a person with students in those schools, i commend that. i appreciate it. however what they're missing, when it comes to human rights, particularly gender identity and expression, context is important. there's a delicate balancing of interests that have to happen here. i don't think they've done that appropriately. as you pointed out, tucker, i think the context that they're missing here is that this is a school. these are children. they're adolescents. their maturity is still developing. on the other hand, i think there's extreme views taken of this as well, which says that transgender individuals don't have any rights under the law. the problem is that's an extreme view. the parents that i represent, the parents that support them, are being labeled as discriminatory or bigoted. that's the problem. it polarizes us.

you follow this for a living. you write about it. you study it for a living. can you think of any place on planet earth, where renewable energy has made energy more reliable or cheaper? >> it's utopian. they replace the existing reality that worked. remember, the united states has had electrical grids. there's no excuse. the only excuse is politics and a net zero green new deal, climate agenda has crept into our policies. solar and wind being subsidized. there's no penalty for the lack of energy they produce. they're treated equally, which forces grids to have -- incorporate with solar and wind mandates them into the grid, and you end up with either shortages and consequential skyrocketing prices. we ought to name energy

blackouts after the politicians. name the policies -- name the blackouts after politicians who push these policies. >> tucker: that's totally true, but they've silenced the opposition with their signature moral aggression, where people are embarrassed of fossil fuels. what? you're embarrassed of civilization? thank you. so every major government agency at your expense publishes hundreds of imagination of guidelines that promote absurd antiwhite woke propaganda. "wall street journal" just obtained documents from nasa, who talked about micro inequities. the department of veteran affairs has a gingerbread person. it's happening at the pentagon? that's a huge problem. the army now advises soldiers not to have any, quote, discomfort sharing with a female who has male genitalia.

extremism thing is a thing, and only applies to one side of the political ideology. so in a sense some folks are convinced that's true, even though it's not. it's not based on fact. others know that critical thinkers -- i would say the majority of my network is in the special ops and intel community, and those that are even lean left of center, when i present the evidence, in a very deliberate, systemic manner, they know where i stand ideologically, they'll agree with the conclusion, which does not align with what's been -- what's being prom mel gated at the top. they don't want to lose their job. they don't want to lose their benefits. it all comes down to that. it comes down to safety/security, and they're willing to bend and budge on their moral, ethical, and even legal principles. >> tucker: stream the full

brought upon the medical assistance to die from other veterans. the deputy has spoken about this being just an isolated case, and it was unknown of others, but i had to raise my hand and say, i'm sorry, but this happened to me as well. so as i have told the veterans affairs services one day to say how i could not go on anymore, things were so hard. it's been five years to this day that i'm waiting for an elevato, may i say, five years that i have to worm on the floor, like a worm, to go up and down to exit my house. the person told me, if you're that fed up, you're that tired, you can't go on anymore, you know you have the right to die. how was that brought up? there was no guideline or offered method or doctors to do

it. when this guy told me that, i said this is ridiculous, i can't believe that you will not give me the equipment i need to live, but you will help me to die? that's how the conversation ended. i have written to the minister macaulay and prime minister trudeau to have meetings with them, bring this to their attention, because this person who told me that has direct access to my file, and decisions made. i have tried to counter circuit and go directly up to them. unfortunately they just told me how sorry they were, and that they were -- they believed in their ministry to be able to handle things properly. it's been five years waiting. still nothing done. this has been going on with the veterans affairs for over 15 years. i have waited and asked and -- waited 18 years for a second set of wheels for my wheelchair.
