[applause] >> reporter: the stalemate was broken after mccarthy agreed to key concessions that included the ability to oust him more easily if desired and spending cuts. he squeezed by with 216 votes by the fifteenth round, mccarthy needed 215 because the total there to cast votes was 429. democrats voted for congressman hakim jeffries. the six present votes belong to 6 republican holdouts who vowed never to support mccarthy's speaker should. yesterday it boiled over into a tense moment. congressman elect mike rogers from alabama lunged at florida's matt gaetz after the failure of the fourteenth vote. rogers had to be pulled back

who voted present. everyone thought apparently based on her hannity appearance that she was going to vote yes, she voted present and then matt gaetz didn't vote, waiting until the end to vote at which point he voted present, and it was a tie. they tied in the fourteenth ballot and they held the vote open for 10, 15 minutes and members came up to matt gaetz and boebert, they can change their votes in real-time and they voted to adjourn until monday. there wasn't going to be a fifteenth vote. in a dramatic moment, matt gaetz walked up to kevin mccarthy, some exchange happened, they both grabbed red cards which meant they were changing their vote to adjourn and they voted again. it was clear a deal had been made and in the final ballot, matt gaetz and boebert voted present.

it lowered the threshold enough the 216 was in a kevin mccarthy. rachel: the ball inched yard by yard down the line. after friday's vote which was the 10th vote when he did vote for mccarthy, i was waiting for the federal budget to be addressed. it's not about me, it is the national defense spending, the american people, and now given this assurance, i will vote for the now speaker mccarthy. we saw as that traced down, the individual articulations, the concepts these members were standing behind so they did get that litany of concessions that mccarthy made. you as they say, in good faith we vote for mccarthy or as you said, present. the question remains, apparently there are reports that donald trump called matt gaetz and biggs on friday.

cuts. when a bill is brought to the floor, it will wait 72 hours before a vote to pass the bill. pretty common sense. might want to read a thousand page bill that spends trillions. three seats on the rules committee for house freedom caucus members. will: understand why the motion to vacate is problematic. what does it matter if it is 5 or one? look at all those other items, those are really good things for conservatives and commonsense governance. there was a lot of fruit for this that came from these hold outs who were called a lot of names. they felt governing with the mandate republicans have would require holding the line. the moment matt gaetz came up to mccarthy and the votes changed. if you watch to the end, hakeem jeffries gave one of the most disgusting partisan speeches i ever heard calling his

out in her community looking for clues. rachel: jackie ibanez joins us with more. >> reporter: anna walsh was last seen at 4:00 am on new year's day leaving her massachusetts home to catch her rideshare at boston logan airport. the mother of three was supposed to catch a flight to washington for a work trip at her job in a real estate company but police say it appears walsh never made it to the airport. >> we do not confirm she got into a rideshare. further, we have confirmed with the airlines, that has been a challenge, she did not board a plane. >> reporter: officers say the 39-year-old's cell phone has been shut off since new year's and there is no activity on her debit or credit cards either. this disappearance is treated as a missing persons case. investigators say there is nothing to support anything suspicious or criminal at this

point. searches in washington turned up empty. crews were scouring the woods before suspending the search which will be backup today. during that search effort a fire broke out at her former home where she lived until a few months ago. a couple and a toddler in the home all managed to make it out safely. firefighters say the blaze started in the home's attic. police are not connecting the incident to ana walshe's disappearance saying it is too soon. we are learning ana walshe's husband has a criminal past, he pleaded guilty to federal charges for selling two fake andy warhol paintings to a buyer in south korea. prosecutors say he took the real warhol paintings from friends, put them up on ebay and switched them out for fakes. rachel: thank you so much.

pete: it is three incidences but you are like a lot of smoke. when there is smoke coming you are realizing now as i'm talking about her house burning down, but three separate incidences, not an obvious or direct connection among them. the husband's former past having committed fraud, the house burning down in her disappearance aren't obviously connected. will: the house she didn't currently live in. i don't know. rachel: statistically we know the majority of missing and murdered women are perpetrated by someone who knows her and her close circle. criminal history of fraud does not automatically lend itself to assumptions of committing violence. to your point sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. all of this seems crazy to understand, might be related. that being said, i don't know, sometimes there are massive coincidences. we hope and pray she is found

>> i will visit the border myself this sunday in el paso to assess border enforcement operations meeting with local officials and community leaders and folks at the border, seeing what they need but don't have, to convince my republican colleagues they should do something. pete: as you heard, he is going to visit el paso, texas, tomorrow. the mayor there recently declared a state of emergency. border agents in the sector encountered one hundred 6,000 migrants since october, 260% increase from last year. here to react his former el paso councilmember claudio rodriguez. the reports are el paso is being cleaned up in preparation for president biden. i am curious, who is doing the cleanup and why?

>> good morning. it is very unfortunate that the cleanup started earlier this week. i spoke to officials yesterday and they notified me there was 0 releases from border patrol. that means when border patrol has these encounters, they process them and release them into the city of el paso as we had 0. border patrol agents in el paso, i am sure they are just as disappointed because the purpose of president biden coming to el paso is for him to see firsthand the mess that is going on here, something that has never happened in el paso before. we are a city of immigrants, we have people coming into our community every single day. they are coming here legally. everybody has a migration story. it defeats the purpose of president biden coming to el paso by cleaning up the streets the way they are.
