hheading to his real december at decemdestination, mexicocity. there's no sign of the illegal camps normally seen there. emily: this comes as sources reveal to fox news the lating shock statistics from the growing crisis at the border. we have griff jenkins on the ground in eagle pass, texas. we begin with wi will cain liven el paso. good morning to you both. >> good morning. ggood morning, pete, good mornin. i'm sitting here with joe sanchez, regional director of the dps. he will be with senators tomorrow morning who are ahead of joe biden's visit as well. i assume you'll be showing them around a little bit here, what's going on.
6:02 am
>> i'll definitely be doing that tomorrow. we're excited about that. because as you all know, i think a lot of americans don't realize what's going on down here at the border and how -- especially how it's impacted local can communities, our tax paying dollars are going to sheltering a lot of migrants coming in. it's tying up a lot of alaw enforcement assets, such as partners in border patrol. they're constantly pulled off the line to help process my migrants which has made the border unsecure. >> reporter: let's give everybody watching at home a little context of the conversation we were having earlier. the camera is focused on joe. pete and emily, i was showing the border wall, the traditional -- which you can see behind me, it ends right here. there's a natural river, just beyond that wall. so the natural river is used as the border. but, joe, you were telling me a few weeks ago is it, right there was a major camp of migrants. >> right. before we put up the wire with
6:03 am
the national guard, that whole area that you're viewing right there was filled with over 2,000 migrants that were camped out for a very long time in that area until the government of mexico decided to go in there and give them a chance to get shelter and if they didn't, then they cleared them out. it basically cleared them out, right before that, though, border patrol had a surge of 300 that tried to rush them across the border. boborder patrol agents did a fie job of holding the line. troopers came to assist along with other law enforcement agencies. if we didn't have the coordination, it probably would have gotten out of hand. >> reporter: they tried to get across the border. >> 300 charged them. >> reporter: you said different places at different times the surge is coming and you just had to manage to push it back and it comes up somewhere else. >> right. so as you can see, when you're looking at the fence, the fence
6:04 am
ends here. there's a huge gap of a mile nature. a lot of migration was coming through here because of the gap. the wall does a great job of deterring migration from coming across. once we secured this, then we started having problems on border highway not far from here where they started cutting holes through the wall and they were coming across and there's a busy highway that goes through there so a lot of citizens in the community were having to avoid hitting migrants. some migrants got hit. some citizens crashed vehicles to avoid hitting migrants. a public safety concern was definitely big at that time. >> reporter: i think pete and emily in new york have questions. pete: we saw a lot of violence in mexico, the arrest of el chapo's son observed warfare against the mexican government. what's the consequence of the cartel violence, talk about that dynamic and how it affects who is crossing, how many are crossing and what policy do we
6:05 am
have on it? >> so, let's go back to the migration issue. the migration issue is bigger than just the migrants. this is run by a trans national criminal organizations which are the cartel the. the cartels are using human smuggling and making a lot of money off of it and flowing drugs across behind it so right now the cartels are probably making more money than they ever made in this century. and it's just getting bad. when we talk about the war that's going on right now, they that affects everything that happens in the united states because there are cartels in every major city in america. emily: director, it's emily compagno. thank you for your service, first of all. if the president met with you today, if you had 30 seconds with president biden, what would you tell him? >> well, i would say, sir, mr. president, we would greatly appreciate if you could take some concerns of what goes on in our border communities because it's migration that has really, really put a lot of devastation
6:06 am
to the communities. we've had to cancel a lot of events because of the migration. so i'd say you need to really focus in on the policy. we need to know who is coming into our country. there needs to be a better process. you can just freely come through, across. it's tying up a lot of border patrol agents from doing the job of protecting the border and thank goodness we have great working rea layings ships with law -- relationships with law enforcement agencies that help us out. we need the policy in place. if you're going to come across, let's come across, let's screen. this is a national security issue that we're having. pete: i know you'll be with a group of senators as they tour the area tomorrow. the president comes in today. ddo you feel confident that he'l be able to arrive in el paso and get a sense of the crisis that has been occurring at the southern border? >> i don't think -- i hope he does. i hope he takes a good look at it, i hope he's open and listening to what's going on
6:07 am
because there's a big issue. if it wasn't for governor abbott, governor abbott for the past two years has done more to secure this border and providing us resources to better combat the cartels, drug smuggling and human smuggling. pete: director joe sanchez we appreciate you coming out here, sitting with us along the border and telling us what's going on, sharing with the american public the truth of what's happening at the southern border emt. emily: thank you so much. we'll look forward to your continued thoughts. >> give him a handshake. emily: griff jenkins is in eagle pass, texas with shocking statistics from the past 100 days at the border. griff, what have you got for us? >> reporter: good morning. that was a great segment will just did along the wall. let me take you -- i'm in eagle pass, several miles east of where he is. let me take you up to the drone and show you where we are.

we're in eagle pass. you can see high above the bridge, that is where back in october we caught exclusive footage of t the administration doing van to van transfers of title 42 migrants. it will apply to nic h hatians d cubans as well. if it happens in the next few hours, we'll bring it the to you. will was showing the wall. here they have no wall. that's why along this river we have all of these shipping containers lined up, at texas dps and governor abbott ordered with razor wire on top too try to stop the flow of migrants. you mentioned numbers, emily. let's drop numbers for the administration as the president heads to el paso. we're 100 days into the fiscal year that began october 1st and cbp sources tell fox news there have been more than
6:09 am
718,000 encounters which is more than 200,000 compared to last year and there's just under 200,000 that have been title 42ed of those which means that more than half a million have been released into the country, that catch and release policy that you had director talking about, wanting to undo. let me give you el paso numbers specifically. if you look just in had this 100 days, there have been more than 168,000 encounters, just in el paso alone. that is up 222% compared to this time last year and there are more than 78,000 known got-aways just in el paso. meanwhile, those got-aways is what the texas dps has been trying to get. take a look at the video shot by texas dps lieutenant chris olivarez, over in the rio grande valley, chasing migrants in the early hours, trying to apprehend them because they don't want to be caught. there have been more than
6:10 am
240,000 known got-aways in these 100 days. we don't know who they are, where they're going, or what their intention is or where they came from. now, we talked yesterday with texas congressman lance gooden about the president's trip. he held out some hope. here's what he had to say. take a listen. >> i'm thrilled that he's coming. it's taken him too long but i'm happy he's coming. if this helps him get toward realiesing and admitting that we have a crisis that needs addressing i'm for it. i believe he's seeing polling that the american people are fed up and they want serious change at the border so they have to do something. >> reporter: and just finally, let me just reiterate, on these numbers because it's early and we're giving people a lot of numbers but i've already seen the background white house talking points. you're going to hear the president say that in el paso migrant uncone uncounters are d% from december. the big number is they're up 222% compared to last year and
6:11 am
you'll remember, emily and pete and will that last year was an unprecedented number. i looked to january 20th, 2021, the day president biden took office because that is how you can categorize the numbers and the internal database, there have been more than 4.3 million encounters. emily, he pete, will. emily: that's right, griff. this administration specializes in either lack of transparency or full-blown hiding of information. and that's exactly what they're doing. they're playing a shell game. it's like you have cancer and say i stopped sneezing. the bottom line is that the numbers continue to surge. every terrible number the surge of illegal immigration, the depletion of our resources, the got-aways, the number of unaccompanied minors that have alleged sexual assault, all of the numbers continue to surge. where will is right now and where the be president is grazing people with his layover presence, the 220% increase just know that that's almost a quarter of the entire town's population. so what that means is, in two
6:12 am
months almost a quarter of the entire city's population has come through and taken up hold there. that city has pled with the state and federal government for more resources. the state doesn't have any more to give. they're dealing with the same problem. the administration it just falls on deaf ears and the clean streets are giving a false narrative that the mainstream media will apologize for and further amplify and the administration is going to scoff at. it's unacceptable. griff. >> reporter: you're right. if you take the 718,000 encounters across the entire southwest border and 100 days, that's more than the populations of buffalo and p pittsburgh combined. listen, the administration says they want to do something. they're obviously blaming republicans but if they want to change the policies, that's a what border patrol officials are saying they hope they will end this catch and release. emily, i've been doing this for more than a decade. i've traveled to the darian gap
6:13 am
in the panama jungle. it used to be there were central americans and mexicans coming primarily for employment opportunities. now you've got the whole world coming and when that director was talking to will about a national security issue, let's not for get in the last fiscal year there were 98 individuals who hit the terrorist screening database. if that isn't enough to alarm you, i don't know what is. these numbers are unprecedented on a crisis trajectory we've never seen of. while they may clean up the streets for the president, i hope behind closed doors the officials will give them the real numbers and the dhs mayorkas will be honest about it when the president takes the first look. emily: i doubt it. >> that's all you can hope for. hope is not a strategy. griff, nobody knows this better than you. you're the reason our viewers are so well informed on this. thank you. great to see you. keep up the great work in eagle

smuggling in my neighborhood. >> this is another thing to be able to add to the stress that border patrol families are experiencing and we can't leave it at work. it comes home with us. and unfortunately our wives and children are paying for that. will: pete and emily, here's a saying often used. there's lies, damn lies and statistics. people can spin statistics any way they want. griff mentioned you'll hear from the president some stats about how it's down through mid-december. over a yearly period of time, you see exactly the truth. here's why i want to bring that up. you heard from the residents. those are people that lived here for decades and that is more powerful than statistics. they know what's happening. and emily mentioned, i'm still sitting here by the way with texas dps director of this region, joe sanchez, and i want to bring back in his perspective if we might because, you know,
6:16 am
the stats tell a story but you're living the story. >> that's exactly right. what we're living through and what we're seeing is totally different. i've never seen anything like this in my 28 years in being in the texas department of public safety. as far back as when i was 14 years old and i moved to el paso, i don't ever remember it being like this. will: if you had a word or way to describe the difference, what is it? from when you were 14 to what it is today or eve through your -- even through your professional career, what it is today. >> complete chaos. very concerning. everything talks about fercht nil. one thing about -- about fentanyl. we cover from here to san sande. we don't have a huge problem with drug abuse like some of the other major cities do. the drugs flow through here and go to new york and chicago and philadelphia. that's the concerning thing is
6:17 am
how it affects the nation. not just our border. we're doing our best, like i said, if it wasn't for governor abbott sticking up and providing the resources and funding and personnel to help had secure the border, just think about how much worse our nation would be right now at this point. i mean, it's already bad with fencedfentanyl but think about . will: we really appreciate you. there's the hand a shake pete told me to give you. i know that's from you guys in new york as well. emily: absolutely. anything being done it at the local and state level, it's not being done by the administration. i feel like when the president is flying over there should be a big sos written there. maybe then he'll get the attention somehow. still ahead the 118th congress is sworn in after the battle over the gavel comes to a close. house majority leader steve scalise layses out republican
