4:09 am
garage, she is not responsible for that and they say that they are somewhat upset people that the attorney general decided to launch its investigation and they are upset that they're being compared to donald trump because they have been cooperative. the problem is, classified information is classified information. so they went and searched the garage, they found some stuff, they searched a room and they found some stuff and then chung was interviewed already by investigators. and i imagine the attorneys, too. so, this thing is getting bigger. and the only way it would not be bigger is if they stopped finding documents because now it seems as though they are looking everywhere because they found them anywhere, which means the garage, the room off as well as what happened on november 2nd. >> ainsley: it's interesting they say they are upset because of the comparison to donald trump. they are saying his was worse. he as the former president is allowed to declassify. this guy that you are seeing on the screen, joe biden, our current president, was not able to declassify back then because he was the vice president.
4:10 am
and we keep finding more and more documents and we don't even know if there are more of them. >> steve: well, the circumstances are different with biden and trump. but they both involve classified documents and the doj aptly and rightly is investigating both. it's interesting that now they are naming somebody who may have inadvertently, we assume inadvertently put that stuff and carted it off to the penn biden center. apparently somebody has got to fall on the sword. i'm sure we are going to be hearing more names coming up. >> brian: i would like to add one other thing. president trump came out yesterday and said i just had folders. i just like the folders. the folders were empty. that is almost like your serve, fbi. because then they like to leak things out that are true or not true. >> steve: he said he thought they were cool. so that's his story is he -- you didn't have the documents apparently, he just had the folders. >> ainsley: his argument is they did cooperate. come in have a meeting at mar-a-lago. told me to put a padlock on the door.
4:11 am
next thing storming in. his lawyers say they cooperated. >> brian: archives never sent anybody out to go retrieve those documents. they stumbled. the archives had no record, which is scary, of joe biden's missing documents. number two, one is six months, regardless six months. give them back don't give them back. one is six years. so for six years one guy held on to them and kept them. you have to say, this kept them in a garage in random folders is, which is really prompted i think more than anything, you would think, the attorney general to say i have no idea what is he capable of so we have to round this stuff up. i need an investigator in there. >> steve: and luckily the doj is investigating both cases and we will keep you posted. the white house right now is saying "we can't say anything." >> ainsley: not too far from the white house is virginia where all these schools are being investigated. there are 17 of them now. the list keeps growing because they had all these students that were national merit -- not finalists, contenders.
4:12 am
>> they had to go through the process. if you win at the very end, you get $2,500 in scholarship money. so, they were not notifying these kids. one school, one mom said she called her school and wanted to know why, and the school said we didn't want to hurt anybody's feelings that wasn't getting this award. so now glenn youngkin is involved. a.g. is involved. the lieutenant governor is involved. they're investigating. and the governor was on fox and said it is now going to be mandatory for schools to notify parents and children of any awards, any kind of recognition, any scholarship that they're up for. listen to this. >> there's clearly has been an effort to bring down the standards for our students in virginia to stop celebrating excellence and this is counter to everything we believe. i mean, this nation was -- this nation was built on the idea of building a better future, of striving and achieving. and here we have what appears to be three -- three large school
4:13 am
districts in virginia, who have been systematically withholding information about excellence. this is so counter to everything that we believe. we're going to get to the bottom of it through our attorney general. and we're going to get legislation passed that makes it illegal to do this again. >> brian: can you imagine having to pass legislation to make it mandatory to tell kids they won an award? can this where we got? and does anyone think by any stretch of the imagination that this is solely a virginia problem? it is absolutely not a virginia problem. and, also, thomas jefferson high school is 66% asian. and as the attorney general in virginia says i have said it before in america about the only state sanctioned form of bigotry is anti-asian bigotry and wrong and hold people accountable. >> ainsley: one of the hardest schools to get into in the community. >> brian: asian community excels in school emphasis in their family. held back and that's why they sued ivy league. could be the end of affirmative action. america is at that place where i
4:14 am
think we are ready once again happening in high school. too many asians, let's put a stop to it which is so inherently wrong. >> steve: well, for the governor in that soundbite to talk a little bit about how there are these three school districts that were involved, it clearly looks like you know, at the highest levels, there could be coordination. >> ainsley: they are saying it's human error but not at 17 schools. >> brian: there is coordination. >> ainsley: maybe at one school. but when you have 17, come on. >> steve: exactly. so the a.g. is actually probing to see if the schools violated the virginia human rights act and they will keep us posted. but, you know, in the beginning, to your point, ainsley, where they said, you know what? you are absolutely right. we didn't tell people until it was too late. now, of course, the schools are contacting the universities and saying, hey, we forgot. we about this. but now nobody is buying it. it was not human error as they said. one mom who was on varney and company discussed it. you know, did her son lose out
4:15 am
on something? here she is with stuart. >> i think a major problem we are seeing, stuart, in our public school system is they have stopped focusing on academic excellence. if academics what was the first and primary things school districts were focused on there wouldn't have been a delay giving out awards. they would have handed them out immediately as soon as they got them. there wouldn't have been this pause and wait to make sure that they could hand them out in a way that was discreet and wasn't going to hurt the feelings of some of the other students that didn't receive it. >> brian: it's amazing. our country is focused on competition. doesn't matter whether you win or lose you have got try. and if you want to unmore america, start in the schools. and stop rewarding excellence and improvement. and rankings. when you get rid of class rankings that's a problem. when you get rid of valedictorian and salutatorian that's a problem. were you trailing? were refocused in high school. when you got to the real world
4:16 am
did you learn the work ethic to be successful? were you successful early on? there is no way to judge. >> ainsley: what if one of these students could have gone to harvard or yale or ivy league school and improved our country been some of the best doctors in our country or lawyers or whatever in our country, whatever it is. and they missed out on that opportunity because they can't afford to go and the scholarship could have helped them. >> steve: absolutely there are universities, at least i know of one college where you get a four year scholarship. full ride. >> ainsley: if you are a national merit scholar? >> steve: those kids who might have gone there, you know, are they going to fill up that roster with other people who will get the free scholarships and what will happen to them? i mean, it is a scandal and it is good that the governor is taking it by the horns. >> ainsley: our school was so proud of our national merit scholars. it was a big deal. they were proud to have that reputation to have x amount of merit scholars. these schools should be proud of that should be proud of these students, reward them.
4:17 am
and, look, we all have different gifts. you might not be the top of the class. that would be an opportunity for a parent to say honey, god gave you other gifts. we he need to be happy for everyone who is at the top of their class. >> steve: the problem is now schools we have told you for the last couple of years it's all about equity. that is why we are where we are. >> brian: how do you pick a student for college if don't know class rankings and not taking the sat. how do they rank with the other kids. schools might be more challenging than others. and a lot of poem say what are your difficulties? what are you good at or bad at? >> brian: i'm good add at everything. don't look at me. >> ainsley: and you are not jealous. happy and honored. >> steve: let's see your sats. >> brian: sorry, i have got toss to carley. >> carley: saved by the bell. >> ainsley: those were the days we did have to take them. >> brian: grading yourself and find out where you are at? >> carley: 1.5 million kids apply for merit scholarship award. 50,000 get it. that's why it is so prestigious.
