coast tweeting that it felt like a pretty decent earthquake here in l.a. just now it woke me up. >> brian: bill is always covering the news. no reports or injuries or structural damage so far. the l.a. fire department is now conducting a survey by air, ground, and by sea. we are going to keep you posted as this thing develops and the sun comes up. meanwhile, the white house continues to side step questions. are president biden's document scandal. and we have another person in the fray. >> rachel: that's right. as concerns about the mishandling of the secret materials grow. a batch of classified files are discovered at former vice president mike pence's indiana home. >> steve: lucas tomlinson joins us live from washington with the details. lucas, this was a shocker. >> that's right, steve, rachel and brian. notable the white house press secretary and president himself said the search for those classified documents was over back on january 12th. the same day the special counsel was appointed then the white house said it found even more documents on two separate

closets or corvettes to see where classified comments. iti have no idea how you would d one classified documents. >> i understand if you are president so many irons in the fire and so many staff things get misplaced. i can't understand a vice president or senator. just go by the danger rules. >> navy suck marine officers found classified materials in his home on at least one occasion and returned them to the national archives office according to the associated press, guys. >> steve: lucas, thank you very much. yesterday with mike pence's announcement that they found in his house in indiana these four boxes and two of them there were documents that had classified markings, he essentially has thrown a lifeline to donald trump and joe biden essentially mike pence is saying it could happen to everybody. he followed every rule. is he a straight arrow. he did it by the books. i remember him he was here when he was promoting hits book back

in november about documents. they were all taken care of and everybody went through it with a fine tooth comb. if it could happen to him it could happen to almost everybody. >> rachel: donald trump, he and pence don't always get along. donald trump tweeted mike pence is an innocent man. he never did anything knowingly it dishonesty dishonest in his life leave him alone. defense from his former boss. >> brian: he called back and said why don't you check through all the boxes they found last week they found some classified documents he put in the safe. he called the archives and the archives basically had the department of justice can we just come get it. since 2009 the vice president can declassify. vice president biden could declassify. vice president pence could declassify. you just can't take it. it. in terms of this and i don't think anyone would argue with this. it was chaotic at the end of that administration number one.

through for 13 hours? and the other one is like now that the place is empty, and just staff, let's go raid and go through barron's sock drawers and melania's closet. there is all three. no doubt this is related to how donald trump's numbers have ticked up over all. >> steve: they all did it the same way with the exception of donald trump who the fbi came to visit both biden and mike pence called the national archives first because that of course was precedent it. goes back to jimmy carter. in 1981 president jimmy carter was already in plains georgia, he was going through stuff. hey i found this stuff. ironic jimmy carter in 1978 who signed the presidential records act. and it would not apply to him but it would apply to president reagan and they called -- they said, you know, i have got this stuff let's go ahead and take it back. you know, you look at mike pence

going through stuff. why would mike pence go through stuff? why would joe biden initially go through stuff? i was talking to a smart person down in washington. and they suggested that the 2024 hopefuls, people who think they are going to run for president or are running for president are probably going through things just to make sure they don't have them get it out of the way now. big deal for donald trump. getting it right out of the way. right after the election how convenient for joe biden. nonetheless, this is going to be over and done with in a month or two. it sounds like the fix, brian, probably going to be congress is going to change the law. >> brian: absolutely. >> rachel: andy card the former white house chief of staff talking about on what needs to happen with these classified documents. >> it seems to be out of control, i would like to point out classified documents aren't only read in a scif.

my office was always swept by the secret service. so we made sure that people weren't listening in or whatever. but it wasn't as if every document is only viewed in the scif. and when you leave the white house. you the principal almost always never cleans up his own mess or packs his own box. i suspect that's what the situation was with president trump. i suspect that's what it was with vice president biden and i suspect that is the way it was done with vice president pence. it's wrong to take classified documents and not make sure they are secure. this is a problem. >> brian: doesn't explain how vice president biden and senator biden got it. number two, people want to see miranda devine brought it up last night. you want to know if this is isolated thing. jacques sir iraq had an affair.

do you know what? they took a look at where people buy groceries because it says a lot about where we are. right now the fastest growing food retailers not your grocery store, not costco, not walmart. it's the dollar stores. it's where people can get stuff so cheaply because so many people are so strapped that's all they can afford. >> rachel: my husband last night on his -- i think he is doing it today or tomorrow, i'm not sure. they are doing a story on the food banks. that they are just completely overwhelmed. they cannot handle it. and also there's a record number of first-time americans using food banks, you know, that never had to do it before. >> steve: asking for help. >> rachel: asking for help. doing things they never had to do before. i saw this in our packet this morning and i thought it was really interesting. richard blumenthal was, you know, grilling ticketmaster and when he was grilling ticketmaster about prices and monopolies and whatnot.

she was so beautiful. and i remember walking up to her in the bathroom and i was like you are so beautiful and she was so nice to me. so welcoming normal people would be like thank you, that's all. madi was so nice. she would come get me from the student section and we would go dance with each other at the football games and everything. and then we went to -- in those pictures we had we went to coretta's and she was just all around a nice person. i was going through the hardest time where i felt bullied and everything and she showed me love in a way like nobody else could. that's how i want her to be remembered. i want her to be remembered for the girl that she was. she was the nicest soul. >> rachel: she does seem like a wonderful girl. i saw some of the instagram pictures with her family. two younger brothers. she is very close to her parents. wonderful. it just seems like she was real

family oriented girl. it is tragic what happened to her. one of the things that surprises me as a mom is that she didn't have friends with her that she got into this vehicle with these men that she apparently didn't know very well and yet she was in a sorority. where were her sorority sisters and friends? does it shock you? are you surprised that she did not have friends with her when she was out drinking like that? at least at the end of the night? >> yeah it, does shock me. but i want to make it about madi and what she was like when she was here by the time -- that's what i wanted to make it about. i want everyone in the world to know how good of a person she really was. >> rachel: of course. there are some lessons for young women. what are the lessons you are drawing from this situation? >> personally, don't go out drinking at bars. definitely be careful. men, boys tend to take advantage of young girls whenever they can, so, always, always be
