on in the economy, specifically inflation, todd, you have to look at what the root causes here there is a lot of demands still for goods and services. why? people got all that free money from the government. instead of looking at what the true cause of this is, which is the supply-side, the supply chains being able to get goods to the markets, that is really the issue. instead, we seem to be focused through the federal reserve. let's kill demand! so these are the core of the u.s. economic troubles right now. >> carley: yeah, contrary to what the white house is saying on gas prices, they were on the rise again. the national average rate now stands at $3.50. that is up $0.13 from last week. $0.40 over the last month. that is because demand is up and oil prices are also up. so the white house and the president consistently say they want to lower prices for the
1:52 am
american people and american families. but when it comes to gas prices, man, does the president have a bad track record. >> he really does. you know, when you look at the cost of fuel, whether regular gasoline or diesel, that is how everything, including people get from point a to point b, commute to work and so on. but especially when you talk about diesel fuel. every product that we get, how does it get to us? it gets there by a truck. it means it needs diesel fuel. when those costs go up across the board, all of us are paying the price for that. >> todd: in the meantime taxis and around the corner, as you know, being an accountant including force to outsource workers is apparently people fling the profession and no new students taking accounting courses to get into the profession. why is that, dan? >> this is a huge problem.
1:53 am
and there was an article in "the wall street journal" by lindsey allen and outlined this perfectly. you had over the last two years 300,000 accountants leave the profession. that is one side of the equation. on the other side of the equation, you don't have enough accounting majors appearance at the squeeze that the accounting profession is feeling is serious. why? you simply can't get all of the work done. accountants are always under pressure for deadlines, but on top of that, more and more rules and regulations being put out there. so you have to do more work with less people. how do you do that? you are going to have to turn to using more technology as many are doing. they are looking at the international solution to supplement the shortage of u.s. workers!
1:54 am
>> carley: you mentioned "wall street journal" article and we have a little bit of it, the tax season to kick off small and midsize county firms that serve family businesses, individuals and smaller companies saying off shoring jobs as multiple recruiting pipelines dry up and accountants leave the professionals in droves. i don't know if i would be comfortable somebody in india doing my taxes because maybe they will be fine but i don't know how well they know the tax code. so how should people be about this? >> not at all. i think there is a lot of filmic misinformation about this process. first of all, the people internationally participating in this process to help u.s. companies, they are literally just parked of getting the information into the tax returns. the actual review process, the strategic planning, the things that truly matter related to the timeliness and the quality of
1:55 am
your tax returns. that process is still being controlled in the u.s. so, i think a lot of people just need to understand that if firms don't turn to this, the work can't get done. >> todd: dan, if you want dan geltrude, we appreciate it. >> absolutely, todd. >> carley: thank you, dan. paid by numbers, house republicans getting ready for a deep dive into hunter biden's art deals. we have the details on the big picture investigation. >> todd: plus, joe concha and kelly and jimmy feel it all here busy at a 5:00 a.m. hour of "fox & friends first." stay with us.
