but first, let's get to aishah hasnie live on the hill. republicans have a long list of questions as we can imagine. >> hey, sandra, yes, of course they do, a long list of questions into what happened here, not clear how many answers they will actually walk out of this room with, but this meeting is a big deal. this is the first time they are sitting down with the general counsel of the national archives, gary stern, and it comes days after nara, the national archives missed a deadline set by oversight chairman james comer to hand over records related to the classified documents. first and foremost, comer wants to find out who triggered the search at mar-a-lago. was it nara or the doj. and why nara did not tell the public about the documents found at president biden's personal office before the midterm election and whether or not the mishandling of these classified

the documents, but for two months he and his administration, attorneys kept the information from the public days before an election up until a mainstream reporter discovered it, and wrote a story about it. that was the only time that the president or his administration came forward and showed any sort of transparency about what was going on over the last couple of months and then we all know now for five years, we don't know where the documents have been, don't know who has had access to the documents, and so we have a lot of unanswered questions at this juncture. >> john: are you curious whether it was the archives that triggered the raid on president trump's home in florida or whether it came strictly from the doj? >> yeah, i would like to know the answer to that as well. and again, i mean, this is a place where mar-a-lago, the federal government knew about these documents, they knew where they were, and even at some point in their investigation we know that they had access to the room, access to the documents. it's my hope as someone on the oversight committee we get to the bottom of this with the president, and now learn a

room, private setting behind closed doors and when we have access to classified information we don't leave the room with that classified information and so how it made it into the boxes and made it into a personal residence is still head scratching for many of us. >> john: so many republicans in congress, and even some democrats, senator mark warner among them are accusing the doj and the national intelligence director of stonewalling when it comes to these documents. house intelligence committee wants to see the documents themselves. jim jordan on the judiciary just wants some information on the documents seized from biden's home. here is what the doj said in a letter. disclosing non-public information about ongoing investigations could violate statutory requirements and court orders road maps and interfere with the ability to gather facts, bring witnesses and criminal where warranted.
11:13 am
the doj -- without cooperation from the doj, how can congress do adequate oversight? >> if i remember correctly, the summer when the former president's home was raided, they came out with a list of how many boxes and roughly how much information was provided to the doj. i have not seen that yet in the biden administration. but we are going to have to call these people in. right now it sounds like it will be a closed door hearing. all we are asking for are answers to some questions on a letter, and they won't even do that much. where is the balance of power here, the whole purpose of the oversight committee to bring the balance of power and use the investigative authority and i hope and i have great confidence ins jamie comer as chairman, we will leave no stone unturned when it comes to investigations, whether it's biden and classified documents, whether it's the illegal immigrants crossing the border, big tech infringing on the privacy and first amendment rights or the
