and they are also going to have county judge by the name of darryl crowrts in taylor county, texas. was a border critic. was a democrat until joe biden was elected and now switched parties because just doesn't like what's going on. >> ainsley: she says a lot of people in her community are switching parties now. >> steve: absolutely. so, anyway, what's going to happen and ainsley, you s set it up perfectly. now that republicans are in charge and talking about the border that you see right there with the rio grande, this is their first opportunity to actually have these oversight hearings. so they are going to be calling all sorts of people on the carpet. ultimately, mayorkas yesterday, who is going to get in trouble by the end of this, was on msnbc and had this observations about what republicans need to know. >> my message to them would be, you know, the immigration system has been terribly broken and outdated for decades. that is something about which

rescinded unless you crack down on your border. convinced the mexican president, that if you don't put marines at your southern border, then we are going to start hitting you will with tariffs like we did china and they did. and the traffic slowed down in a way we haven't seen in years. and built 450 miles of wall. you stopped the wall, you stopped all those procedures, and now the numbers are staggering. we have never seen anything quite like it. come one, come all, including 43,000 into new york which is bust be at the seams and costing us millions -- billions i say. this is smart. unifying aspect of this. the fentanyl which the president never brings up, is overwhelming this country and is coming right through the border. yesterday bill melugin tweeted out 300,000 fentanyl pills in one car. 458,000 pills found in a roof and gas tank of another car. 14 pounds of powder in the bumper of a car. this is what is being found.

you can imagine what's not being found. so, hopefully, both sides, including democrats, will see that this is not a partisan affair. i hope they get aggressive, too. >> ainsley: the president was in town yesterday. >> steve: tying up your traffic. >> ainsley: close to the watson hotel where all those immigrants were staying. refused to go over to the shelter at the cruise terminal in brooklyn. so, democrats, there was a democratic councilman very upset about this says it's disgraceful. his name is robert holden, queen city councilman, disgraceful to say the least. the president is pushing his agenda but he doesn't want to fix the border mess he created. he will sweep fund the rug. >> steve: absolutely. so you have got this situation and that's the watson hotel in hell's kitchen up on 57 street area. a lot of people drive by it and horrified to see so many people. it's a hotel. but people are camping out in front of it with tents and stuff like that. those are the migrants because they were essentially told you have got to leave the hotel. but they said we don't like --

we just don't like the place they want to put us. these are people who are gusts in our country currently as their cases are being adjudicated. the city is rolling out the red carpet inn brooklyn, they will not go. obviously they are trying to make some sort of a statement. but the people who live -- my daughter sally used to live a block or two from there. it's a lovely neighborhood. steven is a nurse who lives near this hotel he said this to "the daily mail." i'm paying $2,000 a month to witness this. i have kids in school. this is ridiculous. allen robert lives near as well says no information was given to the neighborhood prior to this happening. they were just dropped here. i don't mind helping migrants but i do mind helping migrants who are undocumented, which we are paying for per night per room, really, how much is it? well, robert, we have heard numbers. it's 4 or $500 per person per night that currently is being paid by the city of new york in the hopes that the city is reimbursed by the federal

support system here today as you mentioned vice president kamala harris is expected to travel to memphis this morning to attend the funeral at the invite of nicole's mother and step-father. we're told the vice president actually spoke with the president yesterday for more than half an hour about nichols' tragic death and even got nichols to smile a little as the vice president consoled her. we also expect the family of george floyd to be here to offer their respects and support. the floyd family, who know the pain of losing a loved one at the hands of police officer has offered their condolences to nichols' family and meet in person for the first time today. and moving forward, we're told both families will team up to push congress to pass the george floyd justice and policing act as president biden renews calls to republicans to help pass that legislation. we'll also hear an impassioned eulogy from the reverend al sharpton who on tuesday, next to nichols' family demanded justice

capable of at the united nations, so do i think i can be that leader? yes. >> steve: so there she did that interview about 10 days ago with bret which made it seem like oh it looks like she is thinking about 2024. >> she has also been increasing her social media footprint for a while and putting fierce out an. talking to staff and stuff like that. the local paper got wind of the fact she was sending out invitations to supporters meet me at the shed in charleston on the 15th of february and that's when she is going to make it official. >> ainsley: she was a great governor of south carolina. first female governor of south carolina. people really liked her there. years before she took office, there was lots of controversy about the confederate flag being flown on top of the statehouse dome. they moved it down to the grounds area to get it off of the state house dome. there was more controversy about that you drive down main street and slap you right in the face. she came in and she said you know what? enough of this. it's divisive.

let's take this down all together. i wasn't sure how south carolina would react they ended up loving her. everyone jumped in and supportive of that she did well. then president trump nominates her or puts her in the position of u.n. ambassador. so south carolina was very 3r0ud of her for that and she did an excellent job. she was on our show a lot. i thought it was very respectful of her to call donald trump and say, look, i'm going to put my hat in the ring and he was very supportive of it. listen to what he said about their conversation. >> nikki haley made the statement that she would never run against our president. i believe mike did, too. my attitude is, you know, if they want to do that, they should do it. i had a good relationship with all of them. can i hali called me the other day to talk to me. i talked to her for a little while. i said look, go by your heart if you want to run. she has publicly stated i will never run against my president. he was a great president. i would never run. >> did she call you and tell you that she was going to be running? >> no. but she called me and said she would like to consider it.

and who she is letting you know. >> i said you should do it. >> brian: it's kind of fascinating because over the weekend lindsey graham governor south carolina governor mcmaster said trump is my guy. governor nikki haley turned around when jim dement went and left his seat and he had two or three years left. she named as governor tim scott to take his spot. but tim scott, obviously, friends with nikki haley as senator. and then he won re-election twice congress. as senator, they are friends. tim scott and the president have great mutual respect. but it's not going to stop him, i think, from jumping into the fray. here's what he said over the weekend. i think he is in. plus, he is going to iowa later this month. listen. >> it is time for us to give back to uniting this country. and if we think about the things that unite this country, all of us want the next generation to be better off than this generation. all of us want to be able to live where you want to live and succeed based on your efforts

that's always the question, but, you know what? voters have the power. if they go to the polls and vote their own interest. >> brian: right. if they vote their own interest. but, in new york, which is heavily democratic. when you see the standoff that's happening now in a democratic city where you have people now thanks to immigration activists urging illegal immigrants to sleep outside the watson hotel, rather than go to the brooklyn terminal where you get three meals a day, showers. you get ferry tickets, bus tickets, subway passes, why -- how can that work in the best interest? >> that's a pretty good deal. i might actually go out in the country and come back in. look, the thing is, with progressives, right, the sanctuary city, they actually bring migrants to the altar to worship them while the working class taxpayers and the homeless actually has to sit quietly in the back pew. that's a problem. >> brian: right. that's what we are seeing. john burdett, thanks so much. >> thanks for having me.

roof. you were raising money and today you've got a big announcement about somebody is helping you in a big way. >> absolutely. well, the center we're building it cost $35 million and our goal has always been to do it debt free. in order to make that happen, we need major donors and lots of supporters from across america. so, today we're announcing we have $8 million naming rights for the building. and we're really excited about it. it's going to be the called robert r. mccormick leadership and economic opportunity center. >> steve: we're looking at some of the artist rendering of what it is going to look like. it's going to be beautiful right there in the heart of that neighborhood. tell us what is going to happen inside that building. >> well, inside, we're going to have a place of transformation. we are living in a neighborhood where there is a lot of gangs, a lot of violence. we're turning the neighborhood around by offering programs. so we have construction and carpentry that we are really excited about the trades where we are going to teach hvac, carpentry, electric. get guys to put down their guns

and pick up some hammers and some electrical tools. so many other offerings as well. >> steve: sure. because, when you look at the crime, year over year, in your town, car theft up 250%. aggravated battery up cross to 50%. burglary up 30%. we got a graphic if we can put that up. robbery up 17% as well. it seems like, you know, when i was growing up, out in the midwest, chicago was like the capital of the midwest. now it's capital of crime in the midwest. >> yeah, it is. it's unfortunate. we are doing everything we can to turn that around. in our neighborhood where we serve, project h.o.o.d., while crime and violence is going up around the city, we have been featured as having it go down. so we're really excited about what we're trying to do because we are trying to create a model that we believe works. we want chicago to be recognized as a beautiful place and a beautiful city to be a part of the american fabric like before. we don't want to be known as the

crime city. >> steve: i completely understand that the mayor of chicago is lori height foot. we saw her doing some dancing a couple of days ago. is she helping? >> you know, everything rises and falls on leadership. i tell everyone all the time that it's -- it's response responsibility of leadership to make sure the city goes well. when it does not go well. we have to take the blame for that we have to shoulder the blame for that we have to wear it. and we have to do something about it. i believe that leadership could do something in chicago a lot better than what we have been experiencing. and so it remains to be seen if that's going to happen. right now it has not happened to this point. >> steve: okay. well, i'm so delighted, we were there with you from the beginning. >> absolutely. >> steve: the "fox & friends" viewers have helped put millions of dollars in the bank. >> yes. >> steve: now you got the $8 million to name it the robert r. mccormick foundation. if folks watching right now would like to make a donation --
