semitic remarks. seven minutes after the hour now the fbi now joining the investigation into the shooting death of new jersey councilwoman eunice jumped for and what appears to be a targeted attack. jackie benitez is here with what we've learned overnight. good morning , jacki. good morning, todd ashley will police found 30 year old surveil councilwoman eunice's langford dead inside her car parked in front of her home on wednesday night. john ford's neighbors say they heard multiple gunshots before calling police. our friends that were lived over there there was, there was two sets of four shots like pop pop pop. pop pop pop, and then they looked outside and they saw somebody running into the woods , which leads to the parkway. authorities are searching for a motive and have not yet named any suspects. the fbi has confirmed it is working on the case. meantime jumpers, family and friends say they believe she was targeted. for somebody to get so close to somebody and shoot them so many times, it

closely with a new police chief to reduce crime. her 11 year old daughter. >> a horrific story. jackie, thank you. let us bring in new jersey chair, bob. thank you so much for being here. before we get to the details of the crime itself, but can you tell us about eunice? >> it's just a horrific event. unfortunately, this morning, on the circumstances, so many other things were talking about, we have to stop for this. this is just unimaginable tragedy. a young woman who was a rising star in our government and opportunities were boundless for her. it's just so sad for her family. it's hard to even think about anything else, but somebody that was really committed to the christian religion, was so focused on helping other people, and to be taken away is just unimaginably sad for her and her family and for all of us. >> neighbors saw someone wearing

a dark a teacher between two buildings and then jump over a fence to get away. one man said he heard 6-9 gunshots. i know there is no motive and there is no one in custody, read even a suspect at this point, but do you know anything about this area where she lived? is a dangerous? is a quiet? is it something that is not common in this area? >> sayreville is a wonderful town. when you think about the election of eunice to the council and republicans taking control of the town, it's typical of the town were middle class, working class people are standing up and saying we want better government. she was part of the solution to improving government there. it's a working class, great town. hardworking people. down towards the middle of the state, a parkway before new jersey veers east on the coastline there. just a wonderful family oriented

place. just unimaginable that it could happen in that neighborhood. obviously, there are other forces that came into play. it certainly appears as not being involved in any information. it certainly does appear that she was specifically targeted for this horrific event. >> in terms of new jersey geography, this is before you hit mammoth county, which is really the only bastion of conservatism in new jersey by and large. it's also the hometown of bon jovi. when you think of several, you think of bon jovi. now, sadly, i think of this horrific crime. some of the ideas being floated, speculation, this has to do with a religion, this could have to do with the party. you heard that individual in that laura ingraham sound bite that based upon the number of shots, this was personal. do you believe her telling was tied to her work on the council or do you think this could be tied to her personal life? >> i'm hesitant to speculate on anything. we don't have the facts. it's hard to believe that there

is something that she's been doing in her role as a councilwoman that would cause this kind of reaction because her for, as you heard from so many others, and i don't know her well, i met her, she was clearly a rising star. when you think about the realignment of our party, it's people like eunice that are leading our way forward and she was such a bright light in such an opportunity to do so much more for our community and our state, and to have this taken away from her and for all of us is just terrific and hard to believe it's related to that, but her service in government. i'm just confident that everyone's commitment to solving this, the people that perpetrated this crime are going to be brought to justice very quickly. we need to get closure on this because there is no way of moving forward after you have some event like this without having people held responsible for it. because she apparently had just gotten married and had a 12 year old daughter.

hey this cannot be in schools? >> the mornings of what representative brad yeager coming out in support of this is huge and a great push to hopefully get the necessary bill across the finish line but with a high altitude chinese balloon right now, i think this is very timely and everyone will wake up and realize this needs to be done across the country. >> todd: let's remember when it comes to the difference on tiktok between the u.s. and china, this is actually used as an educational tool and the students use it for science and various subjects but in other states to post fund videos and obviously major ramifications when talking about things like peer pressure, doing drugs, convincing kids things about drugs that may or may not be true. there is a lot that goes along with this. brad, do you think this legislation will pass?

>> todd, i do think it will pass. this is a common sense bipartisan approach to this. taking our kids back and we know they are addiction issues and social issues and time and time again they report the effects of social media with negative effects of social media. this is bipartisan common sense approach. >> todd: what are you hearing from kids themselves about the pressures that they feel could be a tiktok and all the negatives that tiktok brought upon their lives? >> you know, i have children of my own and teenage sons. i see it day in and day out and my wife has worked with youth. and i'm not sure if the kids know the pressure. the social environment has changed today. it's not just about your friend at school but the influence of all the people social media coming from around the world to influence our youth in social

situations. >> todd: danny who would vote against this and it seems like it is bipartisan. they have banned the app on government devices and a lot of those states are democrats. who would vote against this? >> it is hard to imagine who would appear that it's a great question. there is overwhelming level of support for something like this. another component of the bill to highlight is the social media safety and seven in ten parent said overwhelmingly they want this to be taught in curriculum in schools so kids could be armed with information and knowledge to avoid the pitfalls of social media. everything that comes along with that mental health to physical, emotional harm that we know these studies are proving. we are doing so much damage to generations of children. this is what parents are asking for. florida will lead the way on this initiative and will be the first to do just that. >> todd: brad, what is your message to parents if this had is ultimately ban in schools?

and devices in general? >> you know, to be very aware and educated and know what your kids are doing and how they are interacting on the devices. a lot of times with phones today, kids walk off and they have their own world and are unaware of it. they need to be educated with these apps, what they do, especially tiktok with multiple dangers and multiple predators on there and it is a safety issue across the board. education is the biggest piece for americans. >> todd: tiktok is still the thing to get in phones and download apps, tiktok will be remote. brad yeager and danny burgess, thank you for your time. >> thank you. >> ashley: south carolina republicans blasting the smithsonian air and space museum for kicking students out over their pro-life hats. those students from south carolina catholic school

you have prosecutorial discretion. what is your response? did you have that discretion? absolutely we have prosecutorial discretion in every case we handle. the dixon case was handled in an appropriate manner. he was exposed to six years, eight months and pled guilty to charges of five years, four months in the california department of corrections. you know, this is gavin newsom doing what he does best which is shifting blame, creating a sound bite for himself. he knows deep in his heart that his policies are failing. prop 47 is as disaster and let's criminals out and changes the constitution. he is a menace to public safety in the state of california. >> ashley: the suspect, fill in under under california's 8109 dangerous to let criminals out early. you chose not to charge nathaniel dixon who killed officer perez jr. for earlier crimes. why? would it not matter under this

law? >> that is just not true. that is banter from the governor that is simply not true. i'm at a loss how to respond to that because nathaniel dixon was charged with every crime we know he committed. so, he was a very young man. he's only 24 years old. he was on a granted probation for robbery. in august 2020, he committed two more felonies in possession of a firearm and methamphetamines with a firearm. those pieces were mitigated together and sentenced to five years, four months in prison. the issue here, ashley is based on the measures, the statewide measures supported by gavin newsom over the last five years mainly prop 57, this is why this person was out of custody. before prop 57 a person like dixon would have served 80% of

his sentence. now, thanks to gavin newsom and his political allies, most of the inmates in the california department of corrections only serving a third of the time that they should be sentenced to. so, they are getting sentenced, rested and properly prosecuted by the superior courts. when they get to gavin newsom department of corrections and rehabilitation he is arbitrarily giving them bonus credits in addition to the credits mandated by the new laws that we have here in california, which are all supported by him. >> todd: let's drill down on one of the laws, 109, assembly bill 109 fashion to meet the u.s. supreme court order with the reduction of prison state of 33 prisons. i'm not a social justice warrior, d.a. smith, but maybe i can understand for certain misdemeanors and maybe you shouldn't be behind bars felonies? should we release balance into

the general public until they finish their sentence? >> todd, this is the way we live now in california. ever since ab 109 law came into effect after the lawsuit, there are a list of for which all are felonies and inmates cannot go to state prison anymore. we have to have some in the hour local jails. the issue of ab 109 is not exactly the problem. the issue most pressing and the dixon case, and i believe it is the issue with the law enforcement officer killed in the county a few weeks ago is really prop 57 and failed state white measures that gavin newsom has supported. what happens is they are giving these inmates get out of jail free cards. they are giving them get out of jail free cards and giving them advanced, what they call accelerated time credits when they get to prison that is allowing them to get out in less
