the american public or not? she hadn't what began as a spy but has become a trial testing president biden strength and resolve at unfortunately the present test. that is dangerous for the american people. the president wasn't paralyzed for an entire week by a balloon. we should've shot this balloon down over the aleutian islands. we never should have allowed to transit the entire continental united states. i think there's a lot of open questions administration is to answer to congress on behalf of the american people about why they didn't. i think part of it is the president's reluctance to take any action that would be provocative toward the chinese communist but i think what is provocative and confrontational sending a spy balloon all across america. second, i do believe the administration would establish secretary of state strip on friday night brent got through thursday afternoon, thank elite

>> jon has been waging the cold war against united states for decades for an abortion at many of our leaders and acknowledge that. they will deny that it is happening. but when a nation like china is waging the cold war against is the only choices with each win or lose. i think this spy balloon that so vividly went across america is a very high-profile reminder to americans about what the chinese communist have been up too. got to tell your viewers are still worried about assignments like across the middle of america, let me tell them at the tiptop act they have other phones there. their plans and their children as well. shannon: in the a bipartisan push back and call person about as well as not outright banning the president's supporters said this shows is a good job with an opinion piece talks about the sky-blue is a clumsy attempt by china. the show sets minutes to passage them under a tenancy biden's team has exploded to devastating

effect the biden team has inflicted a serious of humiliations on chief arrival they point to semiconductor embargo in china, the philippines expanding access to u.s. military of the things they say section to a job. looks unfortunately humiliation this week was inflicted by the chinese communist on the president. again we should've shot down this balloon over the aleutians as opposed to quote all across middle america on its merry way. the idea we are letting this go all across america's spy balloon completed spy mission before shot it down i'm afraid is an embarrassment to the united states might not an embarrassment to the chinese communists were constantly pushing the envelope. constantly probing to see how far they can get away with these malign actions. and unfortunately they feel like they probably got away with it here. shannon: let's talk about classified documents for numeral briefed about documents found in for president trump, current
11:12 pm
president biden you have not been led to see the document is bipartisan frustration expressed about that. the d.o.j. sent to the intel committee's early's a couple of sick cups editors for the interest in overseeing nation's intelligence activities must be carefully balanced to protect the conduct and integrity of law enforcement investigations with two special councils now you've threatened to shut down some over this for your democratic colleagues they are living for any used to shut down business in a democratic control. what will you do to get your hands of the documents? >> is not a lot of business going on first off with the reit both first month of the senate. i would say he had not even briefed on the nature of these documents would be have not seen the documents we've not had a damage assessment we have not have them hear stories which is unacceptable when their main function is to oversee these agencies operating secretly that department of justice letter is nonsense. we have an absolute right to review these documents to make informed judgments about what, if any national security
11:13 pm
implications they may have had. maybe they have none at all maybe there historical curiosities. that there are logout for president biden's many mansions as offices or like fences home as well. maybe there is damage we have to see the documents to make that assessment. i will say chairman mike warner and rubio haven't leading our committee and a strong bipartisan unanimous fashion to try to get action on these documents. i hope the administration response to their inquiries. shannon: we block judicial nominees over that? >> are not going to take that step treatment warner vice chairman rubio speaking for the committee have been working cooperatively try to get access to the city hope is just that. i will say this whole incident raises another of the troublous double standards with the department of justice. the trump you had the fbi rating are logout with mark mike pence of showing up within hours of himself reported the presence of certain classified documents at his home.
11:14 pm
but with joe biden they were allowed to work to private lawyers represent the interests of the president before they conducted the searches. we still have no characterization at all of the media was in these documents. hours of the biden pence revelation certain media outlets and got leaks from the department of justice with fbi about what was in those documents just like you had with our logo. so the double standard you see here's a double standard the department has been applying time and time again these last two years it's very troubling to most americans. shannon: timpf conference in the special investigations? excel said this especially counsel investigations looking into whether any action may have been illegal based on the focus of the intelligence committee. that's why our review of these documents does not bear all of their investigation but are reviewing documents marked as classified. with the national security damage might have been if any for that is totally different from the department of justice inquiry into whether there was illegal activity related to those documents. shannon: keep us updated to get

shannon: just two days from now leave president will try to set an optimistic tone estate in the union address. republicans taking a far gloomier abusing the nation is settled with debts and blaming the president for inflation rejoining out one of the president's key economic advisors, jared bernstein. welcome back to "fox news
11:19 pm
sunday" progressive always excited to be here with you and talk about this economy and submit number slab and posting. shannon: fantastic jobs in a bonfire that is great news for the country, for the administration, for the president, for you're working on. scott has not gotten people's real life get less cyclic with the drug hundred 66 million americans are living paycheck to paycheck. the majority people make it more than $100,000 a year say that includes them living paycheck to paycheck but retail spending has been down some resentments and inventories. inflation has outpaced wage growth for 21 months in gas prices are up again the last five weeks in a row. so, when does the good news gets our real lives? breakfast a couple quick fact check on some misstatements. first of all real wages have been growing for the past six or seven months. one reason for that is because again i like when the bullet points gas prices came down sharply in the month of december. they turned around partially in january. one of the reasons inflation ticked down in december, i fell
11:20 pm
silent because gas fell 9% that month. the gas prices about a nickel below where it was when putin invaded ukraine, shooting that price. it's down about a buck 50 for mcpeak last summer. shannon: we think about estimates we could be over $4 a gallon again by march? >> is very hard to look that far on the think the president has taken decisive action and showed he can provide breathing room for people at the pump for the gas price which is at such an important price and are calming down a dollar 50 from its peak in june of last year. let's broaden it out. i think inflation is very much under need some of those numbers you just showed. the rate of inflation has fallen six months in a row. it is now considerably lower here then is in the eu, then is in germany, that is in the uk. one of the reasons we have that is the favorable trend in
11:21 pm
inflation is because of the actions of this present has taken to shore up and unstop our supply chains increasing supply of energy. furthermore moving into 2023 is a reduction act kicks in or going to seat lower prescription drug cost rate lower cost for health coverage and lower cost for clean energy. you cannot get two or going in for not living in the right direction. we are moving there based on last month job support we are moving there. shannon: polls show a state without feeling that they don't believe the latest poll shows 74% of people say they do believe are going to have a recession this year you and i have talked about this. you know perception impact spending. people pull back on reese's tail spent many americans are holding up a major purchase is are you worried that's a self fulfilling prophecy? many people think and many economists think to extend that to happen. but just talk about perception in the second part you are right is critically important. first let's talk about facts. 3.4% unemployment rate the lowest unemployment rate since may of 1916 i think i was 13
11:22 pm
years old, 3.4% unemployment, 517,000 jobs, these are not recessionary numbers. 12.1 million jobs in this president took office. ten half-million new small businesses. shannon: and millions of those were added back from the pandemic. parks right, i am just saying my point that is a fair point. my point is 3.4% unemployment is not recessionary. half a million jobs in january is not recessionary. 2.9 on gdp at the end of last year is not recessionary. those are the facts on the ground right now second perceptions. you actually ask about how they're doing in their financial lives also a bird doing well, i'm doing fine and worry about the broader economy that is fair. we understand that. prices are too high but they are moving in the right direction, okay question work food, energy rentals about gas. all of these prices have been following and not just for a month or two.
11:23 pm
the council of economic advisers who make a big deal look at the trend. we have inflation ticking down six months in a row the trend is your friend that is very important in that context. look, you make a fair point catch up with them yet. asked to move into 2023 with investments in infrastructure. with investment standing in a clean energy production, semi conductors, domestic manufacturing 800,000 jobs in manufacturing since president took office. those are 23 numbers. shannon: again because of being the fair of the strata back because of the pandemic. what does talk about manufacturing 800,000 jobs since this president took office that's important to him that's really high value-added sector with good jobs for noncollege workers. i want to get your point that is the strongest manufacturing expansion on record going back to 1953. that is not just a bounce back or part of it as a bounce back.
11:24 pm
it is fastest manufacturing job growth over a business like a going 1950s. shannon: want to make a difference with added and created think that's fair. jobs added back partially because they're gone during the pandemic and they came back in the creation of jobs is different precooked that is fair to other the unemployment rate went up very high and bounce back down. there is in fact forecasters are predicting at this point the unemployment rate will be north of 40% and 104% is 3.4% drink much better than a bounce back. and the thing about these job numbers as they have been so persistent. you yourself in every forecaster got wrong for the month of january, expectations work much lower. this president on his economic policy continues to exceed expectations month after month. shannon: okay good news again for the country we will see where this trickles down hopefully to the rest of her resume. want to talk about the dents on the course at the big fight has potential impact much more
11:25 pm
broadly for our economy. the president says he's not going to negotiate. last of the plate a sound him in 2011 as vice president he said that's not governing if we don't negotiate. this is what we have this week for the wall street journal commentary piece and what better time to call the family together, sit down on the kitchen table, get out the butcher knife and cut up the credit cards them in the bill collectors just knock on the door demanding payment. he knows he's going to have to negotiate. republicans want cuts. winter is a real negotiation start? exiting the negotiation over the debt ceiling over default isn't absolute nonstarter for this president perry's been very clear about that. there is a separate set of discussions and negotiations over fiscal policy. we have our budget we went to sit republicans have. that is what the president told leader mccarthy was characterized as a good starting conversation. i think people need to understand that the debt ceiling is not a negotiation.
11:26 pm
it is an obligation. as a constitutional obligation to raise the debt ceiling to pay for spending that congress has already signed off on. shannon: we know we can do to realize that example sitting at the kitchen table getting a credit cards cut up. westfield to choose what you pay your mortgage are not equipped you also don't go back and said need more money going to need more room to pay off this debt. quickset is a discussion we need to have. that is the discussion the present is anxious to have with republicans. the problem is that really need to bring a plan to the table. you quoted something let me quote fox news to you. this was in an article on foxnews.com. lawmakers harp on the debt ceiling and said they want to bring down spending using it as a physical edge of physical fig leaf. they wanted to/spending. take a knife to social security and medicare. shannon: what about discretionary spending there's room there. people are making difficult decisions everywhere the tables at public lately so far they're not touching social security or
11:27 pm
medicare. beck's discretionary spending is 30% of our spinning cabin that is military. when republicans talk about wanting to balance the budget, what they are really talking and some of them are upfront about this but others you can't get there that cutting social security, medicaid, military spending. a lot of spending most people depend on with food safety, border security and look if they have a different plan that enables them to achieve fiscal responsibility as this president has with 1.6 trillion in deficit reduction since he got here. shannon: again coming off the pandemic on record-breaking spending. pursuant to get to that the second i knew you would say that. so 200 billion in savings with the inflation reduction act. looks not by all estimates by the way. what's in them to join in with him on that kind of fiscal responsibility with deficit reduction without cuts he is all ears. let me tell you something there is no line in the budget this is waste, fraud, abuse or is new line the budget that said this
11:28 pm
is the book spending. so all of this talk to spending we need to see. shannon: the concessions both sides by. >> that has a lot to do with spending after the covid program. that is in part, correct. much of that, about half is increased receipts that are a function of this very strong economy with much more inflow into the treasury because of 3.4 unemployment rates but because of 12.1 million jobs strong gdp growth. that spins off. it's not just lower spending is also increased revenue due to the strong economy. shannon: image of the highest revenues and live ever ever had to do have to talk about spending factors of that too. here's one member expanding his intention to vote no adverse the debt ceiling because this massive accumulation was predicted it was foreseeable it was unnecessary because it was a result of willful and reckless
11:29 pm
disregard for the warnings that were giving and the fundamentals of economic management because i don't have that lawmaker is put me too vice president biden back in 2006. but does have a point? republicans say that is their position now. >> republicans position is they are threatening to default in order to get what they watch me the debt ceiling should never be used as that kind of threat. we have an economy you and i have been discussing is growing strongly for the entity would put that at risk input the full faith and credit the most important debt security in the world, u.s. treasury at risk, as anything this president stands for precooked is out president biden was doing when he said this in 2006 and voted no? >> in 2006. shannon: and 2004 by. >> in 2006 on the make this point. in 2006 dear member a debt ceiling debate that was anywhere close to his heat as this one? it's me since i was hit this one is the worst one. >> answer is no and in 2004 and
11:30 pm
in fact it has been raised 78 times without this kind of weapon icing, this obligation in a way that is completely empathetic also constitutional pledge. furthermore the same politicians talk about the republicans, raise the debt ceiling three times under donald trump without batting an eyelash. this is a president in recent deficit every year is for your term had five truly to the deb debts. half of it was tax cuts. half of it was deficit finance spending. so prison invited 1.7 joint deficit reduction is not going to take lectures from these folks on fiscal responsibility, raise the debt ceiling get behind us and let's have good fiscal talk. shannon: listen to think of as election to the essence of some fun for all there has to be negotiations. >> i appreciate that. shannon: jared bernstein thank you for being here with this.

11:35 pm
not a good look for your party. >> here's the deal the democrats paved at this road onto years ago when she said that it equated americans with the caliban and hamas. as nancy pelosi, jim clyburn, hoyer that signed a letter and condemned her words. and then when she said it's all about the benjamin's and referring to israeli groups that were supporting american elected officials was led by democrat congress that condemned her actions on the floor of the house. the democrats paved the way for it's pretty hypocritical for them to come back down say this is racist. and by the way she is on committees. she is on fantastic committees but she's not going to be in the foreign relations committee. which is something nancy plus people off. tip o'neill did, jon weiner did, there is nothing here.
11:36 pm
shannon: wad, you and i know who tip o'neill is afraid some others out there might not know that. republican said this week you guys change the rules a couple years ago and we warned you then pretty start kicking our people off committees is going to use against you. >> assist tit for tat. it's effective governance, shannon prete this is evidence of how ineffective congress has become. this is a polarized, paralyze congress but 70% of americans including about half of republicans think this congress is locked into petty juvenile fights and not about the real business of the american people. that is what is going on here. is this about anti-semitism? no. think of 22 jews in the democratic caucus they all voted to keep her on the committee. they do not agree with her obviously on substance. they don't see it as a justification for kicking her off. when you go back to it happen before you have people who are
11:37 pm
literally threatening the lives of fellow members of congress. and in some cases with steve can you have mccarthy and the republicans take some responsibility for a racist statement. but refuse because the power of the freedom caucus to deal with people like green. to deal with people who have made threats against fellow members of the house. that is when the democrats asked. >> that had an attack on aoc as part of that she went to responder forward and the rest the panel? what steve can you're right the republicans to take responsibility. but political actions sometimes create political consequences. you are a mouth when using a way that's hurtful to other people you open the door in politics the united states of america to suffer the consequences and she did. the republicans he is the actions of the democrats and nancy pelosi to make their case.
11:38 pm
>> it's cancel culture it's vengeance by the republicans. shannon: talk about reactions and consequences this has a from the "washington post" mitch mcconnell as gop lawmakers challenges leadership. democrats and republicans this is not just a partisan thing but this was about rick scott and michael e with a run at the position senate minority leader. >> were also talking about imagination on capitol hill it's pretty safe and one 100% of cases to assume political are afoot and are the driving went out of her way to make a different case. if you strip some of the emotion out of it that we heard from her and aoc we heard was i feel like my perspective is not welcome on capitol hill because i am a woman of color, i am a muslim and i met african immigrant. the strongest offensive that
11:39 pm
that speaker mccarthy put forward is he has also unseated white men from committees for specific reasons. we will also say what comes to governing what juan was just talking about there is in disarray on both sides of the aisle. bit politically for kevin mccarthy. and unseated from this committ committee. up until the day before it happens that was really up for grabs. nobody was at all sure he would get the post actually do it. shannon: or had to be some people persuaded. >> is now much stronger position. shannon: this is right best fox news both best describes america today is dysfunctional family 81% rate tightknit family 16%. there's a whole lot of dysfunction. >> there absolutely is a lot of dysfunction on capitol hill we see that the white house as we well. the conflicting messages coming out of the white house just to mention briefly on the issue
11:40 pm
here with omar who i try to interview on capitol hill and she shut the door in my face. that is another story. the consideration is woman of color consideration is not a real one for you all mention steve king a number of times, kevin mccarthy when he was the minority leader's sake we would not allow that kind of conversation when you talking to a "new york times" reporter questioning what white's premise he is. to part of the republican party removed him from the committee. do not buy that argument from her. on the dysfunction argument there's a lot of folks who have discontent i think is like 35% of democrats it was a swing that change the number about 80% of americans who fulfilled were dysfunctional family. there are democrats in this country democrats and republicans who feel it in addition to the fact we have folks who are having financial issues but we see people are having issues paying off their credit card balances. we have seen the highest numbers in years for there's great considerations here the question
11:41 pm
is, is government actually taking care of the people question where people are not necessarily seeing that. shannon: is a lot nose pulled nevers was not dysfunctional as this family pays a panel if you will stick around that much more to discuss. quick break here. nikki haley set to enter the race we think for the republican nomination for other presumed contenders, they are still just hinting at their plans for the place on the so-called shadow primary, next

would imagine they don't feel they would be able to convince a joke at judge and jury of the case. otherwise they would want to move forward. i am not a lawyer that stands to reason one would think. in response to the question it's a political gambit on the part of the president's son to the real scandal this week which is the ongoing revelations about the president's mishandling of classified documents. or at the very least his staff is handling of classified documents over the last three or four decades. that makes sense. that might be a reason why hunter biden has become a clinical operative in the universe would want to move forward with letters like this to the delaware attorneys
