waste at the department of energy. briton identifies as non-binary and gender fluid. >> laura: oh, does he? talk about holding the bar really high. you know he would still be there if they didn't have that security footage, by the way. for this administration, it's failure as far as the eye can see yet zero accountability, none. still no senior officials, no cabinet official fired. not alejandro, let 'em all in, mayorkas at dhs. not leave it to pete buttigieg at the department of transportation. not the queen of transitory inflation janet yellen at treasury. so the only logical conclusion at this point can be that america's decline is their agenda. now biden's balloon fiasco was a national embarrassment for the united states at every turn, and it reminds us that we really don't have military leaders who are looking out for us.

even when generals austin and milley blew the afghanistan withdraw which led to the deaths of 13 service members, they still kept their jobs. >> the intel assessments had two basic things, in my view, was the scale and scope, plus the speed. all the intel assessments, all of us, got that wrong. there's no question about it. that was a swing and a miss on the intel assessment. >> laura: oh. swing and a miss. forget it now. in no other professional setting would this be conceivable. but at the top levels of our defense department, they protect their own. and then they move on to the next debacle and then they demand that you support them unconditionally. >> evolved over the last 11 months. but the mission under general austin's leadership, under secretary austin's leadership has remained the same. as much as it takes for as long as it takes. >> this isn't just about ukraine's security.

it's about the world that we want our children and grandchildren to inherit. >> laura: oh, the world? well, under their lame leadership, we're creating a world where china doesn't just control all of asia, it's making games in our own hemisphere including right here in the united states. you see, china's serious about its plans for domination and control. meanwhile, biden's chair man of the joint chiefs spends inordinate amount of time promoting woke agenda within his own ranks. >> on the issue of critical race theory et cetera a lot of us have to get much smarter on what the theory is. but i do think it's important, actually, for those of us in uniform to be open minded and be widely read and the united states military academy is a university. and it is important that we train and we understand -- and i want to understand white rage and i'm white and i want to understand it. >> laura: bet he never gets so

sensitive military installations. >> leave it up to the experts, they make the decision and we should all abide by it. let the experts in this business, defense, do their jobs. >> laura: he does realize we don't live in a military dictatorship, right? i don't know. well, top military brass, of course, argued that we should do nothing to stop the balloon. >> it was my assessment that this balloon did not present a physical military threat to north america. this is under my norad hat. and, therefore, i could not take immediate action because it was not demonstrating hostile act or hostile intent. >> laura: but like maverick in top gun, biden says he always wanted to shoot it down. >> once it came over to the united -- into the united states

from canada, i told the defense department i wanted to shoot it down as soon as it was appropriate. they concluded, they concluded we should not shoot it down over land, it was not a serious threat and we should wait until it got across the water. >> laura: what seems obvious is that the biden people had wanted to keep the entire thing secret and hoped that the balloon fiasco would literally blow over. they wanted nothing to interfere with secretary blinken's plan to beg president xi for more engagement. please, so, don't break off relations with us, we want to get closer to you. but the truth came out, didn't it? since last week the pr folks at the pentagon who appear to be the only competent people on the staff there have been engaged in a flat spin of desperation. >> we believe we mitigated as the intelligence capability of the balloon, at the same time increasing and improving our

ability to collect intelligence and information from it. >> laura: well, at least one former democrat, secretary of defense, isn't buying this. >> the white house has said that a lot of the information the chinese might have wanted were scrambled, they didn't get much of anything. do you believe that? >> if they've got a balloon that's hovering over a military air base or a missile air base, and gathering intelligence or gathering signals, you have to assume that if it was an intelligence-gathering mission, that they were gathering important information. and if we want to protect our national security, we have to make dam sure that our adversaries don't get access to that kind of information. >> laura: never thought i would quote leon panetta on the show but -- and of course the administration even claimed that three different chinese balloons flew over america on the trump administration. more on that claim with former

trump national security administration robert brian later in the show. but bottom line no moderately well informed person believes our pentagon anymore. what's the most lickly scenario? think about it for a moment. that milley and austin outsmarted the chinese? or that their pals in the ccp outsmarted them? i think we all know the answer. the truth is, this administration would not care if a thousand balloons from china spied on us. just like they don't care about the people who are being murdered in china. or the fentanyl that china is sending to poison and kill our people. or the way china crushed freedom in hong kong. or the way china is building the strongest military in the world. they don't care about how china uses tik tok to steal users data or how they infiltrate our universities or how it's buying up food companies, real estate, farm land. they certainly don't care about a balloon. they're just worried about the political fallout going into

2024. for this white house, the policy is never wrong, it's just the messaging. because it's obvious that their primary goal is to protect their relationship with china. the angle isn't going to try to persuade the biden administration anymore so this is for the hill republicans. back in 2006 listening to me on fox or on the radio, i was warning you that the public, i could hear it from my listeners were turning against the war in iraq and i'm warning you now the gop electorate and soon the democrats, they love our troops but they've had it with this pentagon. milley and austin are either incapable or unwilling of safeguarding our national interests. and eventually the voters will have their way. we pulled out of vietnam. we pulled out of iraq. we pulled out of afghanistan. and if you're a republican and you're really going to believe in the massive defense budget we have today, you better get on

the phone, you better call biden's new chief of staff and you better tell him that you will not be able to keep writing blank checks for the pentagon unless some real changes are made. no more money for woke nonsense, no more tolerating incompetence. and that's the angle. >> joining me now congressman mark green chair man of the homeland security committee and member of house foreign affairs committee. congressman, do you believe the administration when they say that the chinese didn't glean any intel, usable intel from that balloon? >> absolutely not, laura. if they can control its elevation in its path, which we know for a fact they did, that thing changed elevation several times they had to be able to be getting information back. there's no way. >> laura: did you ever think you would see a time where the united states of america, with the money that we have put in to our national intense, was just a laughing stock? i'm sorry, a laughing stock in the world watching this thing

take place. a lot of people on tv today were kind of downplaying it, oh, well, this is a big nothing burger, if i heard that phrase one more time i'm going to throw up. but what does this say to the chinese that we were just passive observers until, you know, biden decided there was political fallout and they had to take it down. >> sure. this was an invasion of the united states sovereign territory, our space, by a chinese spy balloon. the general officers who advised that thing not be shot down should be fired. that's step one to future competing with china. fire whoever advised him. >> laura: that's milley and austin isn't it not. >> whoevers >> laura: isn't up to you guys to find out who made that call same thing with afghanistan congressman. >> absolutely. >> laura: we're back a year and a half later and yet another embarrassment for the country. >> i know for a fact the house foreign affairs committee is planning on the withdraw, they're going to dig into that and we're going to dig into house -- house armed services will dig into who made this

decision, they have to find it. >> laura: we have to stop funding it. the only thing they understand is power and money. and if they keep getting these giant increases in the defense budget, well, where are they going to change? they're not going to change. >> clearly the inefficiencies, there's a ton of things to change over there no doubt about it but number one we have to find out who made these bad decisions. weed need lawyers over there. our military -- their job is to deter war and when it happens kill people and break things. not train people on this woke stuff that is tying up our time. we've got ships colliding in the sea and a 3-star admiral made a report it that it was because there wasn't time to train on what they really need to train on. instead they're out there worrying about this woke stuff that's being taught, not only at the academies but throughout the force. >> laura: how much time are they spending on that? he said they have to train at west point on white rage, that's what he said in that congressional testimony. >> i'm not sure he was read in on what was happening at the

academy at the time. >> laura: to add insult to injury by the way, some are concerned that the technology that might be gleaned from this balloon might have an interesting origin. watch. >> it does worry me about the chinese, just how capable they are of collecting intelligence in this country. there are all sorts of things we don't know what that balloon was carrying, what kind of cameras, whether it had communications equipment or even sensors. we used to drop sensors on china to monitor their nuclear weapons. are they doing the same thing at our bases. what scares me when they get the stuff out of the ocean it's going to turn out to be american technology which is a good chance it will be. >> well, there's very much a chance. we have a lot of businesses in this country who has the purpose of stopping that technology transfer to china, needs more power, needs to do their job better. absolutely it's a possibility. too many businesses putting profit over national security and it's got to stop. >> laura: chances one to ten ten being the most likely u.s.

technology being found in that balloon, what are you going to say. >> that's a tough question. you're putting me on spot. i would say 5. >> laura: that's not good. >> thank you laura. >> laura: great to see you in studio. as the angle mentioned the biden administration's defense of this fiasco with the balloon has been this happens all the time. but even the normally plyant press corps doesn't seem to be buying it. >> how is it possible that this administration discovered at least three previous balloons that flew over the u.s. under the previous administration but trump officials didn't know it was happening? >> what i can say is that we learned of this, the three prior, during the past administration, and so we are willing to share that information. but, again, just not going to get into intelligence from here. >> laura: just one problem. there's no evidence of it. and every trump administration official, even those that don't even like trump that much, like john bolton, said it didn't happen. joining me now is one of those

men refuting this talking point robert o'brien former national security advisor to president trump. robert good to see you tonight. is there any chance that this happened and you all weren't told? >> no, i think that's highly unlikely, laura. i mean, we'll have to see what comes out. the good news is, as aggressive as the ccp is and, the communist chinese party we're down to three mike's we have gallagher rodgers and mccauley the chair man of the house armed services committee. they're going to get to the bottom of this but we were never made aware of this and the idea this could have happened without us knowing is not very plausible. we'll have to see what comes out but certainly it's an odd claim. >> laura: robert, this just broke moments ago. cnn reporting that in april 2022 air force intel report titled people's republic of china high altitude of china blown

circumstanceled the glop at about 65,000 feet and drifted past hawaii and across florida before continuing its journey. now, does this ring any bells? >> no, we were never made aware of that flight and we should have been. if there was something that went over hawaii, it is it's important military base or over florida, that should have been a call that woke me up at 2:00 in the morning, laura, that there's a chinese aircraft over american territory. we should have heard about that if it occurred. >> laura: robert, doesn't this beg the question of what the heck is going on at the pentagon? i mean, we have no accountability. we haven't won a war outright since world war ii. we spent trillions of dollars of the taxpayers money, we love our troops, incredible people. they are being ill served and apparently administrations aren't being tolled, if this is true, about something like this? what does this lead people to believe about what we want with

china here? >> it's a problem. the big problem is the message it sends to china and the rest of the world. put domestic politics aside and, you know, what's happening between the administrations. we've got island nations like vanatu and solomon islands, islands our grand fathers fought to liberate that are now going with china and aren't allowing our ships to dock in their port and they're watching this and the chinese are using this as a propaganda tool around the world saying we can fly a balloon over the u.s. and they can't do anything about it. they're not going to help you you better side with us while the getting's good. that's one. number two it encourages the chinese to be more assertive and aggressive to push the boundaries. we have to take a tough stand now. >> laura: doesn't this send a really ominous message to the taiwanees given that comment that came very recently from i believe the air force general about how likely a potential conflict is between china and

taiwan? i mean, you can't be feeling too positive if you're, you know, you're a taiwanees tonight. >> no. listen, the general of the air mobility command, i command him. there are still some warriors at the pentagon laura, i don't want to broad bush. you have general burger and the marine corps taking the fight to the chinese with his combat regimens, general min happen who said this can happen. my air men and women should be ready to fight tomorrow. but i hope it's a wake-up call for the american people. putting the pentagon aside, we have a hundred million or more tik tok users. that's a balloon in every house. tik tok's listening to everything said in your house scooping up your data and passwords. we have chinese institutes at universities all over the country and they still get federal funding. we have the chinese buying up farm land. put aside the balloon that could be shot down and was transitory we have them buying thousands of acres of farm land next to key

having to put their thumb on a scale to favor the very, very rich or to provide all these different needs for the very, very poor. >> laura: now, gentlemen, i want to read part of what i thought was a devastating piece about kamala harris in the new york times. in private conversations dozens of democrats in the white house, capitol hill and around the nation, said she had not risen to the challenge of proving herself as a future leader of the party, much less the country. even democrats, whom her own advisors referred reporters to for supportive quotes confided privately that they had lost hope in her. stephen, what's going on? these are brutal leaks against poor old kamala. she's so talented. >> i think they wanted, number one, they want to ditch her for the next election if it's all possible but at the very least also an insurance policy for joe biden. the more they're tearing her down, the more the biden crew can keep him as the nominee for the next election, which the people who are close to him want. i think, though, honestly, the real interesting story is, who is writing these speeches for

september 11th. now transportation secretary pete buttigieg's response? quote, this is an incredibly complexion system. was anyone held accountable? again i'm asking this question. did he apologize? of course notment but that's the administration for you. now, days later on january 13th, two planes at new york's jfk airport nearly collided on the runway, and five days after that, a jet blue flight at the same airport bumped a parked plane while it was taxiing. now on friday two planes at newark liberty airport new york clipped wings as one was trying to park at the next gate snapping off the tip from one of the plane's wings. which brings us to this weekend. in austin texas where a southwest airlines plane tried to take off while a fed-ex cargo plane was landing in the same spot. >> as you can see fed-ex 1432 is
