>> it didn't bother you, though, that the lack of decorum. no. well, actually , they work for them. fairly well behaved. what we see every day of the week. in the end in the house of representatives, unfortunately, oh, shipwright, not the best person for the decorum thing. >> remember the ripping the speech trace gallagher, fox news at night. take it all from here. thank you, laura . good evening, everyone, and welcome to america's late news. fox news at night. >> i'm trace gallagher in los angeles. and breaking tonight, republicans didn't hold back when president biden used his state of the union address to accuse them of wanting to cut social security and medicare. and when the president mentioned how fentanyl has killed more than seventy thousand americans, one republican screamed, it's your fault with another who yelled secure the border. and those were not the only fiery moments we saw during the president's speech.
10:01 pm
the white house correspondent kevin corke is live with more in the nation's capital . >> kevin ? good evening, trace. you might recall back in 2009, it was congressman joe wilson who yelled, you lie. >> and then president obama. of course, it was also 20 , 20 when we saw nancy pelosi rip up a copy of remarks made by then president trump. so let's be clear. we have seen political fireworks in recent memories at various states of the union address, but none have played out quite like this one did tonight. with congressional republicans literally calling out the president in real time for what they considered willful, intentional falsehoods, lies about policies they're putting forth some republicans, some republicans want medicare and social security sunset . i'm not saying it's the majority. let me give you anybody who doubts. contact my office. i'll give you a copy. i'll give you a copy of
10:02 pm
the proposal. i doesn't reminded me of watching the bbc and watching british parliament play out. by the way, it wasn't just the president's claim about social security, his brief mention of the financial crisis. also, drew barr from the gallery. >> fentanyl is killing more than seventy thousand americans a year. >> you've got it. it's your fault. now, biden did try to use his address to promote his relatively big government economic agenda. he talked about an expansion of a thirty five dollars a month cap on insulin costs. he wants to extend health insurance benefits that are set to sunset soon. he obviously wants to continue to combat climate change. and he says he wants to enact a universal pre-k program and yes, to continue to harden anti-gun legislation. lastly, the president leaned on the phrase finish the job,
10:03 pm
repeating it dozens of times during that. seventy two minute address. for those of you counting at home, obviously finishing a job trace is something he hopes to do with perhaps six more years in office trace. >> and there was a little bit of kind of campaign speeches that whole finish the job. then kevin got back to you in moments. thank you. former white house press secretary and current arkansas governor sarah huckabee. sanders delivered the republican rebuttal to the president's address tonight. marianne rafferty's live with that side of the story. marianne, big spotlight really for the nation's youngest governor . yeah, really big spotlight for her tonight. and while president biden sought to tout his accomplishments during his state of the union address, the message from republicans is that the president and his party have failed the american people. president trump's former press secretary and now governor of arkansas gave the gop response, saying that the dividing line in america is no longer between right and left, but rather the choice is now between normal or crazy. >> listen, at 40 , i'm the youngest governor in the country and at 80 ,
10:04 pm
he's the oldest president in american history. i'm the first woman to lead my state and he's the first man to surrender his presidency. to a work mob. >> and governor sanders didn't mince words in attacking biden for what she called the president's unwillingness to quote, defend our border, defend our skies and defend our people, calling the president unfit to serve as commander in chief. she also made an appeal for change and set a new generation of gop leaders are stepping up. we've also heard from the rnc tonight who says the president is blaming everyone but himself for inflation, skyrocketing crime, calling the president the divider in chief. and while we heard the president say many times tonight he is ready to work with republicans, we'll soon see what consensus just might be found in a bitterly divided washington. and i think we will hear from sarah huckabee. sanders again many times when we do. thank you for that. well, as ever, former president trump doing his own
10:05 pm
thing tonight with his own scathing response to his successor. second state of the union speech attacking president biden on inflation, allegedly weaponizes the justice department against political opponents. plus, the border and fentanyl crisis. >> look, here's the real state of the union over the past two years, underbite, millions and millions of illegal aliens from one hundred and sixty different countries have stormed across our southern border. drug cartels are now raking in billions of dollars from smuggling poison to kill our people. and to kill our children. >> the crisis on our southern border was the subject of another heated hearing on capitol hill earlier tuesday. we will have more on that in moments. clearly, a big night in the nation's capital . let's head back there now and bring in anchor of fox news sunday, shannon bream, and the anchor of special report, bret baer. welcome to you both. thank you for coming on . bret, to you first.
10:06 pm
it's interesting because the president said very little about the border, but as he was speaking later about fentanyl and the fentanyl coming into the country, he got a little bit of pushback. i want to play the sound bite and then get your response on the other side, which is killing more . >> seventy thousand americans a year. >> you got it. in fact, during the speech, there were a couple of moments where he he got a little bit of pushback. >> your thoughts? well, he did. and listen, there were only four lines in the speech about the border and about immigration and essentially the message the president delivered was congress needs to do it. that congress needs to act on comprehensive immigration reform. well, we've been around that block in washington a lot, and there's a lot of concern about, obviously, security at the border. what this administration has signaled to illegal immigrants
10:07 pm
just today here in the border patrol, agencies talk to congress in this testimony saying that because of the message that they are receiving the illegal immigrants, they think that the border is open. and that wasn't dealt with in this speech. he also didn't deal that much trade with china. it was pretty much a small part of the speech compared to other chunks. >> yeah, is exactly right. and you kind of talk about pushback. shannon. and everybody noticed that when he was trying to say, you know, there are some republicans who who are in favor of kind of getting rid of social security and medicare. there was also some pushback on that. let's listen to that and we'll get your response. >> i'm not saying it's a majority view. >> i don't think it's even a significant what is being proposed by individuals. i'm politely not naming them what is being proposed by somebody, brooke. folks. >> the idea is that we're not
10:08 pm
going to be we're not going to be moved to threaten to default on the debt if we don't respond. >> it seems to me that unlike in previous state of the union speeches, those kinds of responses were somewhat off limits. yeah, and it's interesting that the president engaged. it wasn't just that we heard people from the audience yelling things like secure the border or this is your fault. you had to fix it or that's not true. we heard all that stuff tonight, but he was actually engaging with people and almost having a conversation or debate midstream in the middle of this speech. that was highly unusual. but it's interesting because we've heard floating around here in washington, republicans have said entitlements are not on the table. we're not about cutting those. so when i saw that line coming in the speech, i thought, oh, i wonder how this is going to go down. but did the president then pull something off by getting, as he continued there, everybody to say, like, okay, so we're on the same page now. we all agree those entitlements are going to be cut. was that the point? i don't know. but you know what? i just had this, you know, he's getting ready to go on the road and i bet it's going to be attack mode
10:09 pm
more than it was tonight, which had some lines about reaching across the aisle by having republicans and democrats stand up and give an ovation that social security and medicare are off the table. that is a visual thing that republicans are not going to touch. and he acknowledged that that's not going to happen. but if it does, he's going to veto. it may take away some of his attack lines on the stump as he leaves around the country tomorrow. >> you talk about the stump, brad . you know, you were talking right after the speech about how the president said a few times, maybe more than a few times, let's finish the job. let's finish the job. and i'm wondering, shannon, if you heard that as well, do you believe this is kind of transitioning into be a campaign speech of sorts? >> it's possible. i mean, we're all waiting here in washington to find out if he's actually going to run. and i had felt like i think we all had the conventional wisdom was within weeks of getting done with the speech that we would hear an announcement from him. i got the feeling today at this lunch that we had off
10:10 pm
the record with him. i'm not sure he's 100 percent decided exactly what he's going to do. and so maybe some of the speech tonight was testing out some of those themes. he did talk about looking forward, but he's still got two years left in this term before he moves on to a decision about the next. he does, indeed. just to kind of get back to your point, bret, about the fact that he said very little about china. he didn't mention the balloon. he didn't mention the the now nine or ten balloons that we're hearing about. but he did say this about president xi, which i thought was interesting. >> we face serious challenges across the world. for the past two years, democracies have become stronger, not weaker. autocracies grow weaker, not stronger. name be a world leader who changed places with xi jinping, namely one , namely one . >> i'm not quite sure what he was pointing to there when he was saying, name me a leader who wants to trade places with xi jinping. >> i have no clue. >> it wasn't in the speech. it was in the text.
10:11 pm
and i'll tell you from people who were in the room, lawmakers who texted me during the speech said that was very off putting democrat then republicans saying it was kind of interesting, that yelling part. but i guess he was saying that did autocracies are dying and democracies and republics like the u.s. are thriving in the long term. i think, you know, there were some major stumbles in the speech wasn't delivered really smoothly. >> there were lines that really worked really well. the terena nichols part honoring the mother and father in the room, i think was a somber moment, which he delivered very well. but there were moments in the speech where it was kind of halting and when he went off on the resort fees and he said this isn't even a resort, you know, got chuckles in the room ,but there was more time spent
10:12 pm
on that than there was in china or immigration combined. >> and shannon, he got a couple of laughs, the beginning of the thing, and he got a lengthy may not have wanted to be was talking about oil companies and their profits and then said this. >> and i'll get your final reaction. >> i think it's outrageous. why they invested too little of that profit to increase domestic production. and when i talked to a couple of them, they say, we're afraid you're going to shut down all the oil wells and all the oil refineries anyway. so why should we invest? i said we're going to need oil for at least another decade. and that can exceed beyond. >> you see the kind of additon beyond that and beyond that. and you saw the speaker back there, his face started to sort of light up into a chuckle like i think that this is not going to go as they maybe intended because you heard the response there from the republicans, like, great, we're all for oil and gas now and we're telling people that they should go ahead and invest like we're not actually getting rid of it any time soon. and this is something
10:13 pm
the president talked about a lot, that he wants more investment in that. but at the same time, these folks within that industry will say we're getting a very mixed message because you pledged during the campaign you were going to get rid of us and you're going to get rid of this industry. so for him to say that tonight and it came up more than once, it got applause from the gop and the permitting question, you know, he said, you have to put the money back in, but they're not getting all the permits. i think there were some lines in there that got some some laughs that may not been intended to be left. this president took a long time to get out of that whole he works the room. >> lots of selfies, but clearly there was a difference in the republican response from the youngest female governor and sarah huckabee. sanders and the oldest president . >> yeah, and we are going to talk about that as well. right. shannon, thank you both. you bet. well, now for the media's reaction to both the president's speech and the rebuttal by governor huckabee sanders. let's look at the highlights, the lowlights with the guy who wrote the book on the biden
10:14 pm
presidency. >> so far , come on , man. >> author joe concha. joe , it's great to see you. joe , i have some breaking news for you before we move on . it turns out cnn and pbs love the president's speech. >> watch. >> we saw with the president on fire a president who has a strong record to tout, lots of accomplishments that he can talk about, numbers, facts and figures. i just have to say that as president biden has finally walked out of the chamber, he's an irishman at heart, goes out the bar tonight, the last person to leave the room. i think that joe biden's superpower is sort of in his everymen this kind of way. he's sort of everyman. right. and his relatability, whether you like his policies or not, he's very relatable. >> surprised by that, joe ? well, the fact that, trey, cnn is supposed to be moving to the middle and we'd hear different
10:15 pm
perspectives on things like a state of the union address we saw tonight and then the fact that they just basically had the pom poms out along with pbs. i guess i'm not terribly surprised that we're seeing that sort of reaction where we're seeing gushing over this speech we saw on cnn, for example, that they cheered the fact that he showed vigor, that he was feisty. this after republicans rightly objected when the president said the gop would gut social security, which was a lie, or when he mentioned fentanyl, that opioid that has killed more than one hundred thousand americans in the past year. think about this. it's the leading killer trace of adults between the ages of 18 and forty nine in this country, more than covid, more than car crashes, more suicide. and the president just mentioned it in passing. so overall, the president i saw trace spoke very fast. he yelled at times to britain. shannon's point for no apparent reason, especially when it came
10:16 pm
to mentioning the chinese president , and that at times it was difficult to understand exactly what he was saying trace. >> yeah, well, he you know, he touched on the subjects were not good for china and the border, and he just touched them and then brushed him aside. that's interesting. the other breaking news is that pbs and cnn hated sarah huckabee. sanders speech. >> watch this speech. i'm trying not to levitate from my chair because there were so many. she leaned so hard into the culture wars that she just slid right into ignorance or as enemies. >> but as fellow americans, really what her speech was, was, no, let's treat each other as enemies. >> that was the tone and tenor of the beginning of her speech. tone and tenor of it. joe , your thoughts? yeah. you want to know why these networks have so much trouble attracting an audience? because they are wholly predictable. trace, when you tune in, you knew they would praise biden. you knew that they would bash
10:17 pm
huckabee. sanders, there is no there is no debate. there is no different perspectives. on what we saw tonight. and in tonight's state of the union, race was so typical of state of the union addresses. >> you know, it was a laundry list of policy priorities. it was touting so-called successes. in the end, biden should be based on what he did not mention, like we talked about before, as far as opioids, except the pain that americans are feeling from inflation, which is still far too high when it comes to the cost of food or home heating bills. crime in american cities. how often do we hear about that violent crime which is still climbing to unacceptable levels? that was not mentioned. the fact that we saw test scores, the lowest among american kids from our educational system in 30 years. that wasn't mentioned as well. and the crisis that is a catastrophe. the u.s. southern border five million people entering this country in the first two years of this administration, more than 100 people arrested after crossing the border
10:18 pm
who are on the fbi terror list also not broached. and the fact that the chinese just flew a spy balloon across this country was zero consequences until it left this country. the bias of omission, that is the big theme here. and that's what we're not hearing on the other networks. what was not talked about, as you said, things that the president doesn't want to talk about because he does not address them in real time in his own presidency address it is what he left out. >> joe concha, great to see you, as always. thank you. thank you. have a good night. meantime, let's get a lawmaker, law enforcement and military perspective on the president's speech. >> with us now, former navy fighter pilot, republican congressman from california, mike garcia. congressman, thank you for coming on . and we very much appreciate it. joe concha, was there really talk about law enforcement, didn't talk about police? well, he did, but but he didn't really say anything about the police except for this. >> listen, and i'll get your reaction.
10:19 pm
more resources reduce violent crime and gun crime. for community intervention programs for housing, education and job training. all this to help prevent violence in the first place. >> when police officers or police departments violate the public trust, they must be held accountable. so he's talking about reducing violent crime, congressman. and the only thing he has to say about police officers is that they must be held accountable. >> your thoughts on real trace. and this is , you know, if there was a highlight from last your state of the union, it was the fact that he was willing to reverse course on this whole, defund the police movement. but he's basically undone all of that, not just in the last year, but also in tonight's speech, another remarkable omission throughout all of this speech this evening, some 70 odd minutes, and not once as the commander in chief did he mention our military
10:20 pm
servicemen with record low retention, record low recruitment, record low readiness levels right now in the face of this adversary, china, which he spent all of about 30 seconds in an incoherent rant about xi jinping, which, by the way, there's a lot of dictators and folks out there that would trade spots with him. putin, the ayatollah and several others would would would trade spots with xi jinping in a heartbeat. so this speech was disappointing at a minimum, dangerous and delusional are probably more accurate. and he's got his head in the sand, relative to the most threatening issues in our nation. because i found it interesting because sarah huckabee, sanders, you know, brought up a good point, saying, look, this president will not defend our borders and he will not defend our airspace. speaking about both the things that he just kind of skipped over. >> yeah, ironically. and to say that one of the statements that that frankly took our breath away where we had a visceral reaction, where he said we are now in the strongest position
10:21 pm
that we've been in in decades relative to china is an absolutely absurd statement. a week after that, this country just flew a spy balloon across the continental united states, including alaska, in the course of just a few days, and then with a very reactive posture, shooting it down on the east coast rather than on the west coast, like we should have. so it was these types of statements where these assertions he's cut the deficit by one point seven trillion dollars, that we're going to need oil for another decade. you know, literally, we're visceral reactions laughs that you heard from the audience. >> we couldn't contain ourselves. and i got to go. congressman, but i know that you brought lapd sergeant steve widow. he was killed in the line of duty. tonya, you brought. >> i've got ten seconds, sir. that was a good move on your part. >> great move that. thank you. yeah. and she's a hero. she's a detective. sheriff's 32 years. her husband brutally executed in october 5th of 2016. so paying homage to him, supporting her through this very tough journey. we got to back to blue
10:22 pm
more than ever. do we ever meet garcia? congressman, thank you so much. thank you. >> meantime, lawmakers looking for answers tonight after a military officials admit they missed multiple chinese spy balloons entering u.s. airspace during the trump administration. and later, an interesting take on divorce from model and actress emily rouda. koski, do you think divorce is always a bad thing? want to see some dinosaurs? unbelievable. want to see eden? come on . it's almost time for the show. this is the creation museum. >> prepare to leave this for this amazing day.
10:23 pm
never miss a beat day with today order edible dot or guttmann store to get your big >>. those of us who are over thirty five grew up in a different america and read the news and look around me and say i don't recognize this country. anymore. we are turning on our own legacy and declaring it evil. what the communists did, they took down monuments and rewrote history. >> this is what's happening in the united states . americans have lost something, not just purchasing power. >> the american dream. if you wanted to devise an energy policy to weaken us , you would do exactly what biden is doing in san francisco now spends a billion dollars a year on homelessness. china is waging war against us economically, politically and psychologically.
10:24 pm
this is about delegitimizing america itself. >> this should be a wake up de >>pe american requiem streamings noew only on fox nation, which nfl players depend on sleep over here. all these guys do. yeah, visby guys who do the gritty do. turns out 80% of nfl players have a sleepover. 360 smart fan. it's game changing. sleep only from sleep. >> no, it's really been a gift having mom live with us. but as a nurse, my training told me she needed more help than i could provide. so i connected with the place for mom. my senior living adviser understood our unique situation. she quickly recommended community and set up tours. a place for mom helped us get to a decision and now mom is so well cared for. >> our service comes at no cost to your family. connect with us today.

one choice of online sellers. go to ship station dotcom's. try and get two months free while house republicans are taking on the administration over the border. >> administration. right. the crisis down there. the biden administration initially blocked the border agents that republicans were asking to testify. dhs finally relented, but they sent different agents. >> look, i have seen the despair. their morale is certainly
10:28 pm
decreased in the last two years. >> border patrol has had 13 suicides, five in rgv. and it's it's a terrible thing that we experienced tucson sector last year. we seized about 700 pounds of fentanyl to give you an idea based on on the lethality of a dose of fentanyl, that's enough to kill everyone in arizona. >> twenty one times the facts show we are seizing a lot more fentanyl. >> and for me, as a mom, that is a sign of success. >> republicans intensified the attacks on homeland security secretary alejandro mayorkas, though it's unclear if the gop has the votes to impeach him. well, fox news can confirm tonight that last week's spy balloon drama was a small part of a much larger chinese aerial surveillance program with suspected incursions occurring during the trump administration. and now the department of defense is scrambling to explain why such incidents were not flagged for senior officials. here's the chief national security correspondent,
10:29 pm
jennifer griffin. >> senior trump administration officials say they were never told about previous chinese spy balloons that crossed over us airspace. us defense officials say past incursions by suspected chinese spy balloons were brief. the spy balloons did not loiter when they entered us airspace. near florida, texas, hawaii and guam. the incidents were logged by the military, but those reports of which there are sometimes hundreds each day, may not have been flagged for senior officials in this administration or the last. until recently, us defense officials tell me the pentagon began examining them more seriously last year and in the past four months after a chinese spy balloon crashed into the ocean near hawaii. an incident first reported by my colleague lucas tomlinson, over the weekend. that's when u.s. intelligence began looking backwards through images and data and realized there had been other chinese balloons that crossed briefly over us territory.
10:30 pm
which explains why trump administration officials say they did not know about these prior incidents. general van herk, who has served as the top general for north com and toread for both president trump and president biden, admitted us forces failed to detect previous incursions from chinese spy craft into the united states . >> it's my responsibility to detect threats to north america. i will tell you that we did not detect those threats. >> and that's a domain awareness gap that we have to figure out. the fbi is analyzing the debris from the chinese spy ship at their labs in quantico, virginia, and learning more about what it contained on capitol hill today. the former head of us pacific command explained the importance of recovering the spy balloon parts. >> we need to understand more fully the prc, the chinese surveillance capabilities and systems shooting down that drone. and they were covering the parts over atlantic,
10:31 pm
i think is very helpful in that regard. >> the u.s. flew u2 spy planes alongside the airship as it crossed the u.s. collecting intelligence on its capabilities, including transmitting signals. the u2 planes, which can fly at seven thousand feet, even scrambled messages to the chinese airship to negate its intelligence gathering ability as it crossed over a us trace. >> jennifer, thank you. alex murdaugh is the alleged financial crimes took center stage tuesday as prosecutors try to prove a motive for the murders of his wife and son. the head of finance for murdoch's former law firm testified that murdoch was not successful because of his work ethic, but instead for his ability to leverage relationships and think that he is just personality more than technical skill. i think that, you know, we look back and we see things that were manipulated and set up. >> but your mind didn't go to gosh, he killed his wife
10:32 pm
and son because i asked him about the farishta. >> right now, the trial, of course, set to resume in just hours. >> meantime, the crime crisis roundup, nypd officer added fayaz has died from his injuries after he was shot while off duty this weekend. during a robbery attempt. the twenty six year old father of two was looking to purchase a used car that had been advertised on social media. randy jones was arrested monday and charged with murder. >> jones allegedly asked fayaz and his brother in law if they were armed before pulling out a gun and demanding money. fiyaz was struck in the head. the five year veteran of the force was honored tonight with a police procession after his body was removed from a brooklyn hospital. >> attorneys for the family of gabby petito released a previously unseen photo of gabby showing blood on her face.

the image taken shortly before a police stop. just weeks before her suspected murder at the hands of her fiance, brian landry. in that stop, utah police interviewed the couple for nearly an hour after a witness called in an alleged domestic violence incident, a wrongful death suit against the moab city police department argues police incorrectly labeled the aggressor in that altercation, which her parents ,attorneys say is disproved by the photo. >> we just showed an attempted robbery of a jewelry store in broad daylight in new york city was caught on tape. a man opened the door and began firing toward the counter. police say he demanded property as he fired an employee was wounded. >> the suspect got away. coming up, emily of you know her. she's getting attention for her. take on divorce. she says she doesn't really see it as a sad thing. what do you think? should we ever celebrate divorce? let us know. on social media, twitter and instagram at trace gallagher, we will read
