come on in here to studio m., midtown, manhattan. we are at 36 degrees. and welcome to the official post game show. if you did not see what the president was talking about last night in the congress, we got you covered. >> ainsley: we have all the highlights for you. did you all stay up and watch? >> brian: yes. >> steve: hard to miss. >> ainsley: we watched sarah huckabee sanders give the republican rebuttal afterwards. >> brian: went to post game and then came here. brought a gym bag. >> steve: steve joe biden hung around for 45 minutes. after the speech wandering around kind of like what pete hegseth is doing. is he in north carolina and talking to folks at i think it's called pete's family restaurant there in carthage, north carolina. >> ainsley: any relation? [laughter] >> pete: look, folks, not a joke. we're going to be here for a couple hours and finish the job. [laughter] >> brian: all right. good job.

>> pete: i'm just letting you know. pete's family restaurant carthage, north carolina. in fact, these great folks responded to donald trump's state of the union in january of 2020 or february. it was so good we thought we would come back. and they are up early out here. because we watched the reaction. i thought sarah huckabee sanders did a fantastic job. pundits responding. politicians that were in the hall. the far more interesting aspect of what we do here all the time. what can average folks, hard-working folks across america think of this speech? did they watch it? and if they did what was their take away. >> good morning. >> pete: you are on with brian, steve and ainsley. wave to them. [cheers] >> pete: who here watched the speech last night? who here loved the speech last night? >> steve: i don't see many hands. >> pete: not many response there. we will get a sense of what they liked, what they didn't like. what they believed and didn't believe. that's the point here at "fox & friends." >> ainsley: if you are a republican you might have loved the speech.

it was interesting to watch the republicans respond to the speech right there on the floor. they actually did some negotiation. >> steve: it was like a focus group. >> ainsley: social security and medicare. >> pete: you know what, ainsley, i didn't hear a word you said. i will get my ear piece fixed. when i do i will respond. >> pete: pete, jen says a lot of that his wife will say i didn't hear, understand anything you said. he gets away with that we will have to work on that. his lifetime fy too. so the president doubled not only at the state of the union address, it kind of was an audition for his re-election which you think would be a no-brainer. but, if you look at the polls of late, you see the fact that america and democrats are not rallying behind the president even though, according to him, he is doing a great job with a ton of accomplishments. and last night even with his age after getting the job two years ago, i felt like it was an audition.

>> steve: well, it was. because he is auditioning -- the whole idea of hey, let me finish the job is i have already had one term, i. one more term. and so, it's interesting. you know, he was not very good. i he was a little rusty. he sped through the first half of it. he filibustered some lines. he called chuck schumer by the wrong title. ultimately though, most americans did not watch last night. and, instead, they are going to see the clips. and they are going to see the various clips where he engaged with the republicans and ainsley, to your point where there was some back and forth which is good for both parties. ultimately, this was all about, as we zoom way in on joe, this was all about his official kickoff to 2024. >> the cover of the "new york post" says joe lyden. tells so many lies can't count. fact checking. medicare and social security. fentanyl and immigration. when he talks about taxes and

china. and big oil and gas taxes pensions and oil and coal and gas that effects anyone who makes under $400,000. they are calling him out. doing the fact-checking. here is one of the soundbites. he talked about he was boasting about creating all of these jobs. we'll tell you the truth at the end of the soundbite. listen. >> two years ago the economy was reeling. i stand here tonight, after we have created, with the help of many people in this room, 12 million new jobs. more jobs created in two years than any president has created in four years because of y'all. [applause] >> steve: so that is not accurate. so he said that he created 12 million jobs. edward lawrence from fox business sent out a note and said according to the bureau of labor statistics, under this president, the economy added back all the manufacturing jobs lost during the pandemic and has

actually created 214,000 manufacturing jobs. same with overall jobs. we hear the president say he created 12 million jobs. according to the bureau of labor statistics the president added back all the jobs lost during the pandemic. but he has actually only created 2.7 million jobs. he was off by 10 million. whoops. >> brian: when it came to manufacturing jobs, it was dramatically different than he claims claimed. manufacturing jobs 750,000. i claimed i brought them all back. in honesty, a lot of people were told there is nothing to build. we are in a pandemic. when they came back and did the math it's actually 214,000 manufacturing jobs. when he was talking about more untruths taxing the rich. now, look, the rich are voting for some reason they vote democrat. and republicans should measure themselves when they go to bat for so-called billionaires. mislabeled as a party of billionaires. but he came out and said they are only paying 8% of their tax. for the most part.

they did a study. and for the most part. the wealthiest households paid 23%. the top 1% paid 43% of the entire taxes for the country. top 5% pay 63%. the top 10% pay 73% of all the taxes. so he is picking out the wrong people to vilify. they are actually driving the country. you should be incentivizing them to continue to build and buy. >> ainsley: if you didn't watch last night the headline this morning was there were a lot of back and forth moments between democrats and republicans. the republicans started fighting back and booing and chanting and standing up and yelling things. >> steve: it was crazy. >> ainsley: if they disagreed with something that he said. if they thought he wasn't telling the truth. one of the biggest moments is when he talked about medicare and social security. we knew he was probably going to say this going up to it if you watched any of our shows. he is going to say that republicans want to get rid of your social security. they want to get rid of your medicare. well, he did that and republicans were prepared. watch their reaction. >> so my -- many -- some of my

republican friends want to take the economy hostage. i get it. unless i agree to their economic plans. all of you at home should know what those plans are. [shouting] >> instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share some republicans, -- some republicans want medicare and social security to to sun set. [boos] i'm not saying it's the majority. [boos] >> that means congress doesn't vote -- well i'm glad -- no, i will tell you, i enjoy conversion. >> steve: what is he talking about, rick scott had a suggestion about sun setting social security and medicare. that was just one suggestion a while back. we knew joe biden was going to do this because he does it every time. he talks about how republicans want to cut your social security and medicare which really angers

people. it also it's not true. here's the thing you could tell that was inserted in the speech because he wanted to baited the republicans. then he wanted to have some back and forth and he did. >> brian: you think he wanted that? >> steve: absolutely. do you know why? because he had a big smile on his face. >> brian: he reacted in the room. >> steve: so happy that the republicans got ahead and jeered at him. >> brian: there is no way he wanted that. >> ainsley: i don't think he wanted that either. let me tell you why. he said the republicans were yelling we didn't want that. you're a liar. then he has to be on the defensive. >> brian: he lost the talking point. >> ainsley: exactly. wait a minute is oh so you are on the same page as i am? so you agree? so i guess we all agree now? let's discuss our mutual plans together and at that point mccarthy stands up. >> steve: right. because he said okay. if that's off the table now let's talk about the seniors. the reason i said that was peter doocy, nobody has seen joe biden give more speeches than peter doocy over the last five years.

peter said you could tell the way that that was written that he wanted to engage the republicans. and ultimately he did. and what did he do he? got them to essentially say okay. that's off the table. now let's move on to social security. >> brian: he knew that wasn't even up for debate. >> steve: people want the clips. >> brian: kevin mccarthy in the afternoon said medicare and social security are are not in the conversation when it comes to the debt ceiling. number two rick scott. rick scott did this crazy thing and said social security is going to be bankrupt in 10 years. we have to look at this and reform it. oh, we got a talking point for the mid terms. actually, rick scott was actually being responsible but politically it was detrimental. if you want to talk about responsible. 40-year-old governor of arkansas. the composed cool way in delivered substantive speech dichotomy against joe biden it. walls there for you last night. here's a clip. >> in the radical left's

in brooklyn. police say the officer was gunned down by a career criminal on duty trying to buy a used suv. the suspect who was arrested with the officer's handcuffs now faces murder charges. officer fayas leaves behind a wife and three children. he was just 26 years old. overseas rescue crews digging through rubble and freezing conditions in search of trapped earthquake survivors. over 9400 people are confirmed dead from the quake that rocked turkey and syria on monday. but, of course, there are glimmers of hope. a crowd people cheering as responders known as the white helmets rescue a 10-year-old girl in syria. [shouting] >> ashley: and in another part of syria a newborn girl is saved after the mother gives birth to her stuck under the rubble. unfortunately the mother didn't make it. but the miracle baby is expected to make a full recovery. on the west coast, four united

airlines flight attendants are in the hospital after a laptop battery pack burst into flames just after takeoff. the flight from san diego to new jersey was only in the air for 11 minutes before the pilot was forced to turn the plane around. officers say those four united workers breathed in smoke when they heroically put out the flames. the faa is investigating that cause of that fire. two more big corporations announcing layoffs. zoom is set to lay off 1500 employees 15% of its workforce. the company says it's evolving and adapting in the post pandemic business climate and ebay is planning to shed 500 employees due to uncertainties in the economy. those tech companies growing a growing list of companies head count as they brace for a possible recession. those are your headlines. ainsley, back to you. >> ainsley: all right. thank you so much. president biden delivering his second state of the union address last night. so what did you, the american people think when you were watching at home? here with the top takeaways partner and president at

disagree. but, what republicans are saying is they wanted to hear him address fentanyl. they were glad to hear that he was going there. they didn't necessarily like the republican cross talk. we heard that from both sides. the democrats didn't like that either. exchange the way the republicans behaved really did turn off a lot of independent voters. >> ainsley: really? >> it sure did. >> ainsley: republicans even told you they didn't like the cross-exchange but a lot of people i talked to liked it the ones who are republicans. they liked the fact that they had a chance to rebuke what he was saying. they said he wasn't telling the truth. >> you could see a fair number of people that they did. you saw the bump in the dials. when i looked at the verbatims what people were saying over and over again there should be some amount of decorum. you can fight back. flap back. there is a lot of times and places to do it. other ways to do it. they didn't like the coliseum feel that was happening last night. >> ainsley: it was the president's time.

all right. here he was talking about inflation. >> inflation -- inflation has been a global problem because the pandemic disrupted our supply chains and putin's unfair and brutal war in ukraine doesn't haved energy supplies as well as food supply blocking all that grain in ukraine. but we're [inaudible] any country on earth right now. gas prices down 1.50 from peak. food inflation is coming down. not fast enough but coming down. inflation has fallen every month for the last six months while take-home pay has gone up. >> you can see democrats gave that a b minus. independents a d and republicans an f. what we did hear from voters was. you would think that democrats might have even given this a higher grade. in some ways one of the voter we heard from this is some somewhat divorced from my relates. this is not the place that i am living in. and so part of the problem with the speech last night wasn't that it was a good speech. it was the credibility of that
