our defense command says they strengthened the radar frequency and got all these new hits. congressional democrats and republicans calling on the president to deliver on his repeated promise of transparency. >> what has gone on in the last two weeks or so, ten days has been nothing short of craziness. >> even democrats are frustrated at the lack of transparency from this administration. this administration has been the least transparent administration in america. >> i have real concerns why the administration is not being more forthcoming. people will fill it with anxiety. i wish the administration was willing to tell us everything they know. >> the biden administration needs to stop briefing congress through television and sit down and brief us. >> sandra: a look at where the objects were intercepted. the latest shot down yesterday afternoon in lake huron in

clamoring for answers. >> the truth is we haven't been able to gain access to the three that were shot down friday, saturday and yesterday. in large part because of the weather conditions and the third one yesterday was shot down over lake huron. as soon as we do that we'll learn more about that them and share what we can learn with the american people. >> as you went into church this weekend reporters tried to get the president's comment but he did not respond. the pentagon says there are many differences between the initial spy balloon and these objects as they are described. the spy balloon was flying at 60,000 feet and about the size of a regional jet and had the ability to maneuver on its own. for those reasons they didn't shoot it down so they didn't endanger anybody before. the other objects were flying below the threshold and they were shot down and it causes more policy questions. >> they are saying they didn't shoot down the massive spy balloon because it didn't

lucas tomlinson is now reporting this. kirby just a short time ago in a new interview saying that kirby says that u.s. officials have now spoken to chinese leaders in private settings, he says, to voice concerns about the spy balloon shot down off the coast of south carolina. military to military communication between the nations remains closed. so why aren't they picking up the phone, congressman? >> that's a great question and concerning question even in the height of the cold war with the soviet union the back channels were open. my understanding from a briefing we received last week is that secretary of defense austin attempted to reach out and the chinese literally didn't pick up the phone. so this is a time, sandra, where we need clarity, we need candor, we need to hear not from various

spokesmen and women but from the president. in the history in norad's 60 year history we have never shot anything down over the united states. now we've shot four objects down that we can't fully describe in the last week. this is a time to hear from the president. if he doesn't know something or still trying to figure out something, tell us. tell us what we know and what we don't know. >> sandra: three of those in a matter of three days. that being said, there are lawmakers speaking out on both sides of the aisle giving us their take on the situation. before we learn more from the white house republican senator ron johnson with his take on the president's handling of the china spy flight. listen to this. >> they see as well as sense weakness in america right now. president biden, he is detached from reality and delusional. he denies -- we don't exactly have the a-team in place right now. i've been warning for years about the risk of a high
8:08 am
altitude nuclear blast to create magnetic pulse to wipe out electronics. a geo magnetic disturbance could be the same thing. >> sandra: what is your reaction with significant concerns about all of this? >> that's one of the questions that we have. is the ccp looking to weaponize these platforms in addition to surveillance? again it goes back to begging the question on what are shoot down criteria? if it's flying high and large then we're not going to shoot it down? if it's small and low we will? or what about future harm to the united states if an entity can collect on our bomber base, icbm fields and command and control centers, that to me represents future harm and a future conflict and should fit the criteria. we have a ton of policy questions.
8:09 am
again, this is why we need to hear from the president. >> sandra: draw attention to the screen here. north myrtle beach, south carolina where you are seeing the recovery efforts. obviously they were stopped for some time, resuming today 11:00 a.m. eastern time right now, congressman. but there is a major effort to recover as much of that particular object as possible to learn more about what is going on here. the ones off alaska difficult with the freezing waters. how confident are you that we'll learn more from the actual material itself here pretty soon? >> well, i do think we'll learn more. even if the surveillance equipment is no longer functional i think we can be able to tell a lot from the types of equipment that is on there. but again it begs the broader question of is this a concerted
8:10 am
effort? it appears to be by china to take advantage of that space that they call near space between where aircraft fly and where satellites operate. and then what are our defenses against it? what are our policies for taking them down? are our sensors and radars adequate? we need to be investing more from our defense budget in those over the horizon radars. so again we're looking forward to those briefings so that congress can help fund the defense department to defend this great nation. but at the end of the day to senator johnson's point, the messaging is so important here. if adversaries perceive weakness and doing things because they think they can get away with it we can have the best military in the world. if we have perceived weakness in the commander-in-chief our enemies will be on the march. >> sandra: you have to wonder how many more of these are out
8:11 am
there. another big question were the other objects put up at the same time others were discovered? were they put up after? timing huge question marks over every aspect of this. also lucas tomlinson is putting this out there. the u.s. has spotted chinese spy balloons transiting the middle east in the recent past according to lieutenant general. how many -- could you even imagine if these are up all over the world and we're just starting to see them over the united states now? >> well, we have -- the white house and pentagon said they are aware of a over 40 countries these things have transited. we have to remember we have bases all over the world. and so as the chinese have eye on cornering the global energy market and cornering the middle eastern oil and gas reserves, we have bases there that they could also be collecting on. so this is broader than just
8:12 am
defending the homeland. it is about understanding their capability and intent and how to mitigate it, take it out or defend against it. so again these are the many, many questions we have before us. >> sandra: two big things we're watching as the story develops. we watching for the briefing at 1:00 this afternoon. hope to learn more from john kirby and looking at the recovery efforts off the coast of south carolina. the "new york post" says new york city is going back to the bad old days. huge spike in felon crimes shattering records. democrats need to stand up and say some people belong if jail. a top republican has a bombshell with president biden and his son hunter. >> this is another set of questions that joe biden needs to come forward and be transparent not just with the
