>> todd: the ninth dead whale washing ashore in the past two months and one advocacy group says this is precedented in the last half century. off-shore wind power plant activity is the only difference. megan joins me now, do you have any doubt the whales are dying because of offshore wind structures? >> no, actually. and what i think is important for the public to understand, this is not unprecedented when it comes to offshore wind. in the uk in 2018, 1000 whales died and washed up on beaches and people started toic mathe connection between offshore wind and dead whales, the government and media and offshore wind industry quashed it and people

surveying of the ocean floor, they have equipment that is emitting intense sound at the floor of the ocean, they want to tell into the sea floor what type of sediment it is. there have been over 100 offshore wind surveyed by noaa to harass marine mammals on the east coast of the u.s. what they are doing, emitting intense sound and it is affecting whales. whales, if they cannot hear get hit by ships, they become disoriented, they highly rely on sound. >> todd: where are the environmental activists? you would think they would be up in rememberas making sure enough

research and surveys were done, yet crickets. >> that is an interesting point, some have raised the red flag quietly. in 2020, 17 environmental groups sent letters to noaa with profound concern about the impact it could have on whales, they are nowhere to be seen now. in december, center for biological diversity told democrats if they did not shut down the lobster industry, they would have to shut down offshore wind to protect whales and also in december, the defense council sent a letter to noaa, expressing concern about emerging threat of offshore wind on critically endangered whales because there are no real protection for animals during the survey process.

materials. are toxic materials. controlled release rather than having a large explosion they managed things in that way. all the while this is a toxic event. we have to recognize it from that. the amount of exposure someone may get is yet to be determined. so i want to make sure that every health modality is available to people so that they can be taken care of safely when a situation like this occurs. and this may be -- have some long-term side effects or some short-term side effects and that needs to be investigated every step of the way. in the meantime make sure we have people out of harm's way. >> ashley: when you think about $1.2 million for all of these people affected it doesn't seem like that much money. >> no, it doesn't. and maybe that's just a start. i think the assistance maybe need to come from a lot of places. certainly there is some liability involved. i was told this was a wheel
