"tucker" is up next. always remember, i'm watters. this is my world. ♪ ♪ >> tucker: good evening. welcome to "tucker carlson tonight." east palestine, sits on the border of ohio. a toxic mushroom cloud rising thousands of feet over the town is certain to affect the state next door. that's why three days after a train derailed there, spilling dangerous chemicals on to the ground, the governor of
5:01 pm
pennsylvania held a press conference about it. shapiro announced that authorities decided to set the chemicals on fire. that was a good thing. no one should be unduly alarmed. the burning of the chemicals, shapiro said, had gone, quote, as planned. officials on the scene, meanwhile, declared the burn, quote, perfect. mike dewinn, the governor of ohio agreed with all of this. the people in charge, the railroad's jer engineers, and se officials overseeing them, had everything under control. two days later, evacuation orders were listed. in the subsequent days, a lot of people have wondered out loud was it a wise decision to light vinyl chloride on fire over a populated area. if it was safe, how do we know that? is anyone in charge actually monitoring with any accuracy the

level of did deadly chemicals ie air, ground and water in and around east palestine? apparently nobody is. that's highly upsetting when you think about it. talk about a failure at all levels. the first duty of government is to protect its citizens. so it's bad. it's very bad news for reckless politicians, like josh shapiro and mike dewine, who may have made this disaster much worse. tonight both shapiro and dewine are trying to revise their statements about the controlled burn. both are deciding that the toxic mushroom cloud over's, the one they signed off on and endorsed on television was actually a bad thing. it didn't go as planned. it wasn't perfect. and both governors have identified the villain here. not as themselves. of course not. but as the railroad, north folk southern. both are considering lawsuits against the company. in an act of amazingly brazen
5:03 pm
butt-covering, josh shapiro claimed that norfolk southern was unwilling to explore or articulate reverses of action to their proposed vent and burn. it was obvious there was a safer overall approach for first responders, residents and the environment. that was very obvious. ha-ha-ha. he never said anything about it. it's remarkable. for the record, we are not defending norfolk southern, only pointing out that it had the endorsement of shapiro and dewine. by the way, the biden administration endorsed it, on the scene, but never said until there were pictures on social media. of course they didn't. 's is a poor white town that voted for trump.

honestly who cares. no one in the biden administration did care. that's an atrocity. the people who made it possible should lose their jobs, starting with pete buttigieg, including shapiro and dewine. even tonight mike dewine clearly still doesn't care. here he is. >> you're a family governor, you'd be okay sending everybody back home? >> yeah. look, i mean we indicated that. we're going to continue to test the air, continue to test the water. but what's that indicating is that it is very, very safe. >> tucker: yes. we indicated that. kind of a clinical response. and a dishonest one, because, of course, mike dewine is not living in's, and there's not a chance of that ever. animals in's are dying by the thousands. you don't need to be a chemist to know that's not a good thing. the town has been poisoned.

>> residents worrying about what's in the air, soil and their community. ohio officials confirming 35,000 fish died in local waters in the days after the derailment, but insist extensive testing shows there's no threat to other wildlife or humans. they say there's only an dotel evidence of residents getting sick, and no confirmed connection to the hazardous chemicals aboard the train. >> tucker: there's only anecdotal evidence. maybe tony fauci will show up to tell us about the science. a resident says even at that distance, burning chemicals smell like chlorine, and hurt her eyes. she also says her chickens -- and this is not a good sign no matter what they say -- are dying without explanation. >> i walked into the cage, and

this is what i found. >> amanda bra sheers was going to feed her five hens and roosters this morning, when they discovered them all lifeless, practically in the same position, with no signs of a predator entering their enclosure. >> i'm beyond upset and quite panicked, because this -- they may be just chickens, but they're family. >> she says her chickens were alive and well yesterday. she believes the smell after the detonation of the train that derailed in's is to blame for her birds' sudden deaths. >> my videotape footage shows they were perfectly fine before the burn. as soon as they started the burn, my chickens died. if you can do this to chickens in one night, imagine what it's going to do to us in 20 years. >> tucker: if you want to know what people think, ignore what they say h. words are cheap and people lie. watch what they do. mike dewine may say it's safe to be ineast palestine.

one woman who lives there says officials were wearing hazmat suits. >> they all have giant hazmat suits on, but somehow it's safe for people to go back to these homes. they only evacuated a mile out-ish. anybody outside of that, you're kind of your own. if you want to leave, you can leave. if you want to drink potted water, go for it, buy it, but it's all on our own dime. this is caused by a company who makes billions of dollars, and we're forgotten about. >> tucker: so the people who live there obviously want some answers. it's totally safe, says the guy in the hazmat suit. so residents of east palestine gathered for a town hall. the mayor told residents she's not heard from anyone in the white house, didn't until yesterday, when it started to become a political liability for

them. the mayor also said he has no idea where pete buttigieg is tonight. we know where kaitlin schwartzwarden is, the owner of a doberman kennel in pennsylvania. she's a dog person, and lives a mile over the border from east palestine, and been asked to sign a waiver promising not to sue agencies monitoring the air near her property. we thought that was telling. kaitlin joins us. thank you so much for joining us. explain your experience with the official who asked you to sign a waiver? >> sure. what i can tell you is that we would like to have independent testing done. the people at norfolk suggested they were going to offer services by an independent testing company to do air and water testing for us. when these people came to our
5:09 pm
property, the company was called cteh. i call it "cteh." they approached our property, came to our driveway, and said, you know, we're here to test the water and soil. i said, okay, so you're independent from norfolk? they said, well, not exactly. they handed us a contract that stated that essentially norfolk, or any affiliates, would be encroaching on the property, doing the testing, and it was essentially a hold harmless agreement. i'm not a lawyer, but i can tell you i did not want to risk anything for my future, the future of the business, by signing this contract. epa was also there. we had asked -- chris specifically asked epa if they could come in by themselves, or without signing of any agreements, and they denied that. >> tucker: well, yeah. i mean, having the company,
5:10 pm
whose train derailed test for the effects of the derailment is a little like putting pfizer in charge of the fda. chris, let me ask you. you pay taxes, like everybody in this country. didn't you expect that when an environment disaster like this happened that state and federal epa officials, pennsylvania, ohio, biden administration, would be on the scene seeing if you were poisoned or not? >> yes. i expected -- you know, i examined our government officials to step up to the plate. papi to step up to the plate, to start giving us direct answers. we're not getting any direct answers as of right now. you know, the wells even -- than, they're saying that our soil and warranty is good to go, the air is good to go, but, you know, we still have animals that are dying, people that are having symptoms every single day. so fema, where are you? government officials, why aren't
5:11 pm
you stepping up to the plate? >> tucker: yeah. my advice is trust the anecdotal evidence. go ahead. >> one of the things we're trying to do here is to get independent testing done. unfortunately it's very expensive. we've had people -- three different companies from environmental services give us quotes, the retainers are anywhere from $15,000 to $50,000. i can speak from experience and say that not people in the area can afford that. if they want to get unbiased answers, then they have to spend money we don't have. >> tucker: yeah. what's the point of having the epa? i appreciate you coming on tonight. thank you. >> absolutely. >> tucker: so how bad is this? it does take some experience with the chemistry to really know that. we have an expert in this, saying the town of east

palestine has effectively been nuked. he joins us tonight to explain. i appreciate you coming on. having spent your life assessing things like chemical spills, how do you assess the conditions of east palestine? >> it's very troublesome. these poor individuals, through no fault of their own, became victims of systemic failures within the -- railroad transportation system, and it manifested itself in this mushroom cloud that they had to experience in their town. one of the reasons why i made the comment about why we nuked the town with chemicals, because there's somebody from darlington, pennsylvania, who was videoing the cloud that went over his property. you could see fallout coming out of the clouds, going on to his property. i'm looking at him saying, you know, it reminds you of an apocolyptic shows with the nuclear fallout. yeah, we basically did nuke a
5:13 pm
whole town just to get a railroad going back in service. earlier on i got involved in this because news media were not being told the truth. days into this, they didn't know what they had. you know, that flies in the face of logic. if you're going to mitigate a problem, if you're going to have your fire department and other, you know, responding teams take care of it, you should know what the heck you've got. it got to the point where they were showing me pictures of train cars, the local media, and i was identifying what was in based on id numbers or train car numbers. when they told me their plan, you know, at that point you had a few cars burning. they had unmonitored hand lines there keeping the tankers cool. then i find out they're pulling unmonitored hand lines, keeping the tankers cool. so that's just going to cause the tanker cars to heat up, which they did. then they announced that one
5:14 pm
was, you know, very catastrophic failure. i said, well, if they don't put water back on it, it's going to heat up and it's going -- it's going to damage other containers. then i was told, no, they're going to detonate all these cars so it doesn't happen. i can tell you, mr. carlson, i've been looking at rail incidents over and over because in youngstown, ohio, there's three rail lines that run through our town. as a chief and instructor i train my guys to anticipate stuff. i would go case study after case study after case study coming up with different scenarios just to keep it going. i've never once, in 39 years, ever heard of them blowing up train cars, dumping all the chemicals into the trench, and lighting them on fire. you know, i was dumbfounded. you know, when you lit this stuff on fire, you're creating hydrogen chloride, created a pupil of combustion of
5:15 pm
everything there, precipitated down on people's properties. there's a lot of questions. the answers came slow. now we've found viable chlorides in the water. well, yeah, no joke. you're going to find that. it seemed like everything was drips and dribbles instead of -- you know, one of the things i learned, is you tell the truth, fell it first, tell them how you're going to solve a problem, and none of that was forthcoming. i began worrying about the end result. they had evacuated one mile. i was telling the media they better do 1.5, 2 miles. within a few days they were bringing everybody back. that was pretty much just in time to open up the rails. there was no testing. there's got to be some plan going forward in this cleanup
5:16 pm
and recovery to test. >> tucker: yeah. i mean, you find asbestos in your building, you contain or remove it. you don't blow it into the next county. it seems self-evident. appreciate you coming on tonight, sil. that was interesting. thank you. it's worth remembering, maybe his first act as president, joe biden shut down an oil pipeline on the grounds it was too dangerous to move something as toxic as oil through a pipeline. you had to ship it by rail. that's a lot safer. then of course they ignored the rail line. you think in a moment like this comedians would be rejoicing, there's so much to mock, but they're not, because they're too afraid to make fun of the people who run the government. we decided to make a documentary on this, anybody in the comedy business, brave enough to tell the truth anymore?
5:17 pm
yes, there are some people. we found them. the new documentary is called "the death of comedy." here's a preview. >> it's a great time to be a comic. it will go away. i don't know what they'll do. they don't like us. they don't like us. people don't like freedom, i guess. so they will try to hold it down. they give money away, but that's not who we are. the money is bonus. we're just comics. as long as they don't take that away, they don't take away who we are, stand-up comedians. in the meantime, let's ride it out. let's have a good time. >> thank you very much. >> the fight for free speech is bigger than comedy. it's a civilizational battle. it will determine the course of our nation. for decades, comedy and comedians are canaries in the coal mine. when they're crushed, that means no one can speak freely. if you want to live in a decent society, you have to fight for the right to make fun of the people in charge. preserving the right of comedians to tell jokes, taking
5:18 pm
away the power who decide who deserves an audience and who doesn't, away from the woke mob, giving it back to the artist, is important. comedy today offers some signs of hopes, but until the tyrants are stopped seeking to silence them, the threat of censorship will hang over our country. >> tucker: that documentary is called "the death of comedy?" it's out today on fox news. so the biden administration bragged for days about their missile acuity. they shot down lots of dangerous things over our country. now it looks like they may have shot down some of our own balloons. did she shoot down our own balloons? apparently. there's more next.

>> tucker: when you see people celebrating something they don't understand, and couldn't possibly understand, because there are no available facts, that ought to be a red flag. we don't know what it was, but we love it. ha-ha-ha. that's not good. last week, the pentagon said it shot three objects out of the sky. we still don't know what they were, but the media were
5:24 pm
thrilled. so what were they? shouldn't we know? as long as we're firing missiles at things, shouldn't we identiy them? here's the national security advisor, jake sullivan. >> we have not yet recovered any of those objects. one up in the wilds of alaska, another in the wilds of the yukon, the third over lake huron. we cannot definitively say what any of them were. we can say that our intelligence community has, at this point, a leading explanation they are looking at that in fact these objects are benign. >> tucker: oh, you're lying. you're lying. the wilds of alaska? it's an american state. if hunter biden got lost in a crack binge in the wilds of alaska, could we find him? probably could. you're starting to wonder, did we shoot down weather balloons? seems like we might have. at the white house, not ashamed.
5:25 pm
>> it furnishes out that the president and mr. trudeau sent top gunfighters to blow weather balloons out of the sky, does the president regret that and is he embarrassed by that? >> i'm not going to get ahead of what -- of any final decision. we just don't know yet. we actually just don't know. >> tucker: at some point this is all going to end, and she's going to wind up back at the dmv, where she started. so perfect. big picture, looks like he's found an enemy in defeat. unfortunately it happens to be the national weather service. douglas mcgregor is a retired army colonel. he joins us tonight. do you think it's possible that the u.s. military shot down weather balloons, and how credible is the claim they have no idea what they shot down?
5:26 pm
the second one is very credible. they probably don't know what they shot down. i'm not confident that what they think they found in the first one is credible either. the chinese have 300 satellites orbiting the planet, you ask the ask why would you bother with a balloon? you don't need it. we have a bigger problem. we have the other nuclear detonation, in addition to what you had in ohio, that doesn't get coverage. that's the southern border. 5 million illegals have come over here since president biden took office, including thousands of chinese citizens. where are they? what are they do? do they have jobs? where are they living? that's only in addition to the chinese we already have working in our laboratories, corporate, government, universities. i mean, talk about missing the game completely, this administration isn't even in the game.
5:27 pm
you commanded tanks famously in the first gulf war, i think the last tank battle in history. did you shoot at things and not know what they were, have no idea what it is, but we're just going to shoot it? >> no, no. in that case, i gave very clear orders that no one was to engage any target unless they were absolutely sure it was the enemy. that was not common. a lot of people wanted to shoot things from as great a distance as possible. it's very important to do that. in this case i think the people at norad did their jobs. i've heard people say are they not competent? wrong. they're competent. they've seen this kind of stuff in the jet stream for years. you don't launch $400,000 missiles at it. they're on the ball. they should not be viewed negatively at all. one wonders what jake sullivan and his friends have on their brain. >> tucker: yeah. i mean, i just know in my limited experience, you make sure it's burned. doug macgregor, i appreciate

5:30 pm
doesn't institute confidence in our mayor or city. clearly she doesn't care, because she's 17 miles away from it. >> tucker: surrounded by city-financed bodyguards, unlike you. there's an election coming up. she could win. how could that happen? >> right now, tucker, we are 12 days away from the city's election. as you know, we've been pushing hard to ensure that she does not have a path forward. it's amazing in a city like chicago that we have so many individuals who are hiding behind white guilt and privilege as an excuse to stick with the failed mayor rather than hold her accountable for what she's done, what she continues to do to this beautiful city. they're willing to stick by her just to assuage their personal guilt or wokeness, whatever they want to call it, and many of us continue to fight back. i know you had dr. wilson on your show as well, standing up against her. we have to fight back for the city, because we can't allow what's happening here to become

me, debating in the coming weeks, whether or not to expand the ce censorship zones further. we're not talking about a few feet outside the clinics. these are over 160 yards censorship zones, which means across the street and right around the block, people are prohibited from praying, offering help to women, helping them make decisions. it's absurd, as father sean said, situation. and quite sinister. >> tucker: that's the right word. thank you for joining us tonight. these attitudes are authoritarian. thank you. >> thank you, tucker. >> tucker: so much going on, you can barely keep up with it. the fbi just raided another university in search of classified documents belonging to the current president. an update next.

>> tucker: rest easy ladies and gentlemen, a special counsel supposedly supposedly looking into jill biden, we know the daily mail has a fill in the gap. they just found out his brother was hired by construction companies negotiate with the saudi government while he was vice president because he's an expert on middle east construction. we've also learned the university of delaware like the university of pennsylvania made a ton of money from china after jill biden opened a fake institute there. a source tells fox news the fbi recently search the university of delaware twice for classified documents, the fbi is still assessing whether there were any classified documents there. peter schweizer is probably the most talented digger into information like this in the united states, he is the president of the government accountability institute, thank you for coming on. what do you make of this?

>> it's very important, if you look at the nexus of these financial ties the bidens have with china, you have to go back to the chinese state and you also have to go back to chinese intelligence. let's keep in mind hunter biden got three big deals in china, some of that money he shared with james biden who potentially went to other family members. if you look at all three of the businessman who made those deals happen, those ties are they are. the first one was a guy named chae thank you, he hunter biden on that private equity deal that netted hunter perhaps $20 million based on estimates. when he set hunter biden up with that deal, he was partners with a gentleman who was the vice minister for state security in china, responsible for foreign recruitment. that's from hong kong corporate records. the second deal that was set up for hunter biden was a guy named

henry, he transferred $5 million into one of hunter biden's accounts, the time he did that, he was business partners with the daughter of the former minister of state security who ran the entire spine apparatus of china. if you look at the energy company, his previous job was working for chinese military intelligence. when you're talking about money coming from china to the bidens or talking about concerns about classified records, if you're concerned about what to the bidens actually do in return for that money, these are all very serious and legitimate questions i don't have much confidence at all in the department of justice looking into it. >> tucker: it seems so obv obvious. these dots really do connect. i have confidence and no one more than you in getting to the bottom of complex money related stories but is there any doubt that what looks like is going on
5:59 pm
is actually going on? >> you and i both went through the cold war at least the 1980s, imagine if ronald reagan's family or jimmy carter's family took tens of millions of dollars from russian business meddling with the kgb, where there be any question at all this requires a serious investigation? instead what we are getting from a lot of people is welcome you can't prove that a crime was being committed -- it's an absurd standard and needs to be looked at. >> sean: peter schweizer, great to see you. >> tucker: we beat up on china a lot but our employee of the month is chinese, say chinese bus driver and as you watch t this -- [[speaking non-english language] we thought at first the brakes went out on this bus can we've concluded having watched it five times, he's just enjoying himself. this is a bus driver showing off

[speaking non-english language] [screaming] >> sean: welcome to hannity tonight we begin with a fox news alert, breaking tonight according to our sources the fbi recently conducted not one but two searches at the university of delaware combing through biden's massive trove of documents for classified materials, no word yet on whether any classified material was located but the bureau is still going through documents. will keep you posted as this story continues to unfold. told originally it might be the equivalent of 2 truckloads that he brought over to
